I played some of it today. I have to admit its pretty good. Visually it doesn't stack up to GT5 but on the gameplay i would say both are even. I have to play it more:( I wish i could play on the same controller and lack of in car view sucks:( Hopefully they include it in forza 3

I think the out-of-car view in GT5P is practically unusable cause it's so static. That's why you have to unse the in-car view(even though it rocks too!). The out-of-car view works much better in Forza 2.
Also, the sound in GT5P isn't anywhere near the sound in Forza 2. GT5P sounds as if they reused samples from GT4. I'll give it the graphics part though. No doubt it's the best looking racing game ever. But controls and gameplay? Nah. It's not even close to the handling, AI or physics in Forza 2. And then there's the lack of customization, tuning and damage modeling. Custom soundtracks?
All in all I think Forza 2 offers much more value in terms of gameplay than GT5P. I'm not sure adding damage modeling will be enough for GT5P either. They will need to fix the stiff controls, the stupid AI, and also get some better car audio in there if they want to compete.

When racing, i use behind the car view cuz its much easier to navigate. Games like PGR3/4 have great in-car view (albeit not as detailed as GT5) but i use it only for checking out and show to other people but then best option is close behind and slightly up camera veiw.

1.5 - Wow.
Glad to see you are giving it a try Sonarus. Forza 2 is an excellent game. The physics and customization are very good. Graphically GT:P on the PS3 is nicer, but it feels very incomplete which is no surprise since it is a demo. I'm actually playing GT:P while you are giving Forza a go. The car models are spectacular and the lighting really is beautiful. I'm disappointed in the lack of customization and damage though. Forza 3 should give GT:5 a run for it's money.

2 - Will the Classic release have the DLC thrown in for free...
...or is that DLC scam still going strong!?
I was planning on boycotting this game, and I did, but then I won it in a competition.
I just felt they had slacked off, just making a Forza HD, or Forza 1.5, and I didnt like that they were already talking about paying for DLC when the game wasnt even out yet.
Looking at the lack of tracks, and less cars than planned, it seems they cut stuff out from the retailversion, in order to make more cash later on through DLC.
I'm also worried about Forza 3. I fear they will once again come out with a game that's lacking enough tracks and cars, and again blaming it on lack of time. Ofcourse you will have a lack of time, when your wasting all your time on DLC-scamming the Forza 2 players, by still creating content for that game...
I'd rather see them just focus 100% on Forza 3, so we dont feel shortchanged again.

2.1 - How uninformed and assuming of you
Forza 2 focused much more on the physics engine then any other part of the game. The engine is uses the most advanced tire model in existence co-created with TOYO Tires. Including a 360 pfps(physics frames per second)and also over 70,000 physics calculations a second per car on track. The cars and tracks were fine tuned by race drivers and automotive engineers not to mention the creator of Road Atlanta. After the physics engine Forza 2 also sports the best engine sounds and sound effects i've ever heard in a racing game.
Forza Motorsport 2 was in development before the Xbox 360 launched causing problems because of the Xbox 360 not being finalized so Forza Motorsport 2 had to almost restart development after the Xbox 360 was finalized. That is 6 months of development out the window by itself.
There is no way that Forza 2 just looks like a Forza 1 in HD. Especially on my 42" Plasma

2.2 - Fordgtguy is spot on
Do more research before you comment. Most of the Cars like the Audi S5,Lamborghini Superleggera,Audi R8,ferrari 599 where not able to be implemented into the final build before the game was released because of the time that was required to build the cars for the retail version.
That is why DLC is one of the best things that can happen to racing games because they can keep updating the car roaster without you waiting 3 years for the next version in order for you to use those cars. They simply gave those cars to us and addded a few fantastic classics like the Audi quattro and the 1st BMW M3(which was a fantastic addition) and so on to give the DLC more value.
Forza 2 is without doubt one of the best racing games ever made.

... I played Forza 1 extensively on Xbox 1, 200+ hours, great great game...
...but Forza 2 pretty much had many of the exact same tracks, and lost some of my favourite ones (Japanese hill)
I'm sorry, but that's not good enough. It's nice that they focussed on phyics, but that doesnt mean they should skimp on content. It's boring to always race on the same tracks. I know them by heart already. I just want a large selection of different good tracks, and they dont even have to be based on real-life tracks, as I think you can come up with nicer, more exciting tracks when you just make them up, so you can use gorgeous settings etc.

So your going to dismiss an entire game because it has some of the same tracks? Even if there aren't that many new tracks let alone tracks at all there are a crap load of cars and the great thing about Forza is that every car is its own unique experience even on a track you've driven hundreds of times. BTW I have over 1000 online races on Forza 2.

2.5 - Yeah... I would...
... because although I KNOW the game is great, gameplay-wise, I'm not really interested in paying 60-70 euro (over a 100 dollars) for a game that pretty much has all the same tracks as the game I've been playing to death in the years before Forza 2, and which was already announcing that I would have to shell out even more cash if I wanted to have the complete experience, because the DLC would come later.
For people who never played Forza 1, it's obviously a GREAT GREAT game. I'm not saying it's crap or anything. I just felt very let down by the extreme lack of new tracks, and the DLC scam they were announcing.
The only reason I own it, is because I won it.

the physics in gt5 feel fake because they use pre-created algorithms on the cars so they feel like they're always on the same surface (as opposed to forza where you feel all the bumps and what not), it's not like in forza where it has to be calculated realtime to adjust for tuning, and customization. Forza has the edge in everything except graphics for me.

Forza Motorsport 2 uses a 360 physics frames per second physics engine. This allows the engine to feel every bump in the car at pretty much any speed your driving. For example lets say the engine is only 60 physics frames per second and your car in the game is moving at 120 mph going down a straight away with 10000 bumps per mile.
If you go ahead you will come up with .033 miles per second, 10000 bumps per mile and 60 physics frames per second. You will end up with.
330 bumps per second and 60 physics frames per second. This means you will miss 270 bumps per second because the physics engine is to slow while Forza 2 in the same calculation would have room to calculate 30 more bumps per second then needed. This comes in handy when going 200 mph on Sebring and you can still feel every bump at that speed.

Forza is a truly great sim. I, and a number of my friends, race real life cars and it is easily the best racing game out there. All the nuances of late braking affecting turn-in, the subtleties of fwd and rwd handling, and the tuning works as you'd expect. Yes, it doesn't have an amazing number of tracks (although with the different 'ribbons' and reverse tracks there is still a lot to use) and the graphics are not great but for handling, sounds and damage it can't be beat. It is also the most glitch-free and cheat-free racer.

Don't forget the online integration with forza2motorsport.net, online racing and tournaments and of course the auction house. Hopefully GT5 can trump all this next year, but then they'll have Forza 3 to worry about. I'm hoping with Forza 3 they bring a GT5 lighting system into the game. What a lot of people don't realize is that the lighting and reflections in GT5P does have the job of making the graphics look better.

14 - Forza is fun, but its not GT5
Really though, I don't need stupid decals and ugly spoilers in a racing game.
GT5 is much more realistic in my opinion. Crash damage will come with an update, but if you ask me, the tuning in both games is unrealistic and generic. That being said, every car in GT5 feels unique, forza, not so much. Especially after you start supin em up.
The devs. at polyphony developed the in dash display for the GTR, and in return the designers of the GTR helped make the car in the game as realistic as possible.
Kaz Yamauchi was named the 20th overall powerful personality of the Auto Industry by motortrend. Automakers are always sending him their cars b4 anyone else; he's got a 350z stamped #50.
What really makes GT5 superior though is you can rally race, street race, formula race, drift, etc. etc. Forza doesn't have dirt racing, and their drifting isn't as comprehensive as GT5.
Another game that I think is much better than Forza but highly underrated is T.O.C.A. There is a reason why this is the #1 racing game in EUROPE - the region that takes it racing most seriously.

And guys dont dismiss GT5P just because its basically a demo, like I said before I love both F2 and GT5P but you will be surprised how much better the cars handle in GT. GT has great graphics, sound, handling, and its just all around fun. Im really looking forward to the final game. Wonder when Forza 3 is coming. I like how both are competing to make the better racing game.

"What really makes GT5 superior though is you can rally race, street race, formula race, drift, etc. etc. Forza doesn't have dirt racing, and their drifting isn't as comprehensive as GT5."
There is NO rally racing in GT5P. There's only 6 tracks and none of them are dirt. If you think the drifting isn't comprehensive, go to forza2motorsport.net and check out ALLLLL of the drifting videos made by the hardcore players. You can pretty much turn any car into a drifting car in Forza 2.

16 - it's nice that forza 2 has become a classic for 360 gamers.
but it will never compare to the GT series.
you guys can talk all day about what you think is better.but the WORLD says otherwise.
the GT series has sold near 50 million copies.and not one forza game has sold more than any GT game release.even the ps1 GT.
it has respect from Motor Trend and Top Gear.while forza is looking to capture some of GT's limelight.but fails to impress globally.if it was that impressive,it would have sold more on 360.
hopefully as a classic gamers will buy it at a lower price.being that it's a "CHEAP IMITATION" of the real deal driving game.

I'm talking about the final build of the game smart guy. Every final build of GT has featured dirt racing. They also will feature a Drift MODE as well, like the demo.
And from what I hear, Forza2 got rid of a lot of the best tracks from the first one that were the best for drifting on. From what I've played so far, the drifting tracks on GT5P are funner.
"Kaz Yamauchi, GT Creator, was named the 20th overall powerful personality of the Auto Industry by motortrend. Automakers are always sending him their cars b4 anyone else; he's got a 350z stamped #50."
This has everything to do with the points I am making. The man has a lot of influence in the auto industry. Just look at his companies involvement w/ the dev. of the new Skyline GT-R. This only helps his games be that much more realistic, because in many cases, they return the favor, as the GT-R designers did, and help him program the most realistic version of the car.
Not to mention GT TV will allow you to watch rally/drift racing. Personally, as an American, Im pissed of that the WRC isn't televised in our country. Formula Racing is the most popular form of racing, Nascar 2nd, World Rally Cup 3rd.

Only main reason it's going XBox Classic is the game's been there for quite a long time now ( like a few other titles in their library which has gone the same path... ).
No dramas, no romanticizing, nothing.
Short enjoyment gameplay-factor, so-so graphics/ok physics, boring view set-up, nice modding feature... A few features needs to be addressed for the next installment.

I wouldn't say its short on enjoyment. I have been playing it nearly every day from day one. Today im making muscle cars and touring cars for a touring car championship on the speedring.
The customisation is way ahead of gts and the racing much better.
As for realism the only reason the forza team didn't include the dashboard view is because if weight reduction is applied it altars the interior which meant that to do it realistically would mean 4 or 5 renders for each dash interior. Gt wimped out as i notice there interiors stay the same with weight reduction.
Gt has better graphics and i enjoy playing it but if i had a choice it would be Forza everytime.
And yes it hasn't sold as well as gt, of course not. gt is an established brand but 3-4million sales in one year isnt to be sniffed at. For my money Forza is leaving Gt in the dust. Gt prolouge seems to be exactly the same as all the other gts. They really need to look at the competition rather than just improving there graphics every time or they will be left behind over the coming years.
Gt1 and 2 were classics but since then it seems as though they have been churning out the same game.

As GT5 the demo is out, but the real GT5 won't be here untill well in 2009
With Forza 2 being a classic now
We can expect Forza 3 released head to head with GT5. Everyone expected GT5 to be released at the same time as Forza 2.
What does this tell us? GT5 might have an edge on visuals in Forza 2, a game already a year old already again. But in gameplay, features, tuning, car painting whatever, Forza 2 is a zillion lightyears ahead.
Forza 3 will have those advantages even tweaked further + visuals pumped up. If GT5 had released not in demo, but full version today it would hold up, but now it'll be in 2009 with Forza 2 a classic at this time, Forza 3 will go for the kill
PS3 simply has no full race sim at this point in time and not untill well in 2009. That's pretty sad, already 1.5 year after its release. And next year it'll be 2.5 years after release. That's just pathetic. Playing a demo with air between the cars etc etc is not the real thing
