GT5: Prologue vs. Forza 2 vs. PGR4

Following the release of Sony's Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, VideoGamer.com has created a video feature pitting the PlayStation 3 racing giant against Microsoft's track-based brawlers Forza Motorsport 2 and Project Gotham Racing 4.

In addition to the video we've also put together some screen grabs from similar sections of race track and taken a closer look at the car models.

You could either be playing a game with 6 tracks, 71 veichles, limited customisation and bare bones online

or for the same price play a game with 310 cars(exc dc=39 ),37 tracks(exc reverse and dc=5), deep customisation inc paint job and fully featured online mode(inc tournaments)

Or a game with 137 vehicles(inc bikes), 9 whole cities(80+tracks), track editor and full online mode(inc tournaments)

I didn't even mention damage or weather effects. not to mention in ign Gtp got 8.5 for gameplay and forzaa 2 got 9.5. all for the same price.

You can either go for better graphics or a better game and wait for Gt5 or Forza 3.Easy decision really.

"gt eats forza 2 and pgr.." is that really honest?

Look at those pics. One is for a beta GT5P, the other is for a game that is A YEAR OLD (Forza 2).

They dont look _that_ much different.

Forza 2: 90/100 & GT4 89/100 from Metacritic.

Further, unless GT5 does some actual innovation in gameplay and features, then Forza 3 is going to eat its lunch.

GT5 will have been in development for yet another year, it would make the comparison even less fair. It looks better now and that margin will only continue to grow as they work on it.

PGR4 came out on the second year out since the XBOX 360's launch and Gran Turismo 5 is looking at late 2008 or early 2009. It isn't Sony's fault that they didn't launch their console a year ahead. If it does come out in 2008 it would be the same time frame.

Look at Perfect Dark Zero to Resistance: Fall of Man both launch titles and only one is still talked about today.

When was the last time you heard anything about COD2? CoD4 is on everyone's lips now, but CoD2 is old news. Game of the year? maybe, but its completely forgetable compared with God of War, Civ 4, San Adreas, and Resident Evil 4, as well as the original Guitar Hero.

4.4 - The pnly reason why GT5 is taking longer
is because its twice the game length Forza and PGR4 COMBINED are.

GT5 will sport over 800 cars. Each car has over 200k polygon count. Now THATS an unfair comparison.
They did twice the work both Forza and PGR are doing. And you are complaining about development time rofl. And its only taken a year longer. Thats why GT5P is released for the fans.

GT5 didn't do more work. Car models are one of the easiest things on earth to have a third party do. Not to mention a lot of them have more to do with retexturing the car and giving it new stats than actually modeling a new car.

I'm not saying the data doesn't take time, but the number of polygons in each car wouldn't increase time as they probably only modeled a fraction of them in house.

Looking at those pictures, GT5 is exceeding Forza 2 -- lets see some video that give Forza's sense of motion some justice (the purpose for all that "blur" at the edges -- but no one can say it is "stomping" Forza 2.

Frankly, after all the hype, I expected to see the GT5 graphics actually exceed Forza 2 by "more".

But Forza 2's quality lies in physics, destructable models, weather, online features and on and on.

Graphics are just ONE part, and honestly, looking at those pics, GT5 isnt "stomping". Sure, it is looks better, but only marginally.

Dont forget GT5 wont release until next year, and Forza 2 is a year old.

Still shots of the three games doesnt say much about which game I'd like to play.

Now, compare all the NON-graphics elements of Forza 2, and GT5 has _much_ to be worried about.

Besides, Forza 2 & PGR4 are out _TODAY_. GT5 isnt due for 8 or more months (at best).

When GT5 ships, we should probably be seeing some screens of Forza 3 or PGR5... then, will we be here comparing an unfinished game to a game that has been out for 12 months?

No. The same gaggle of blind zealots will be here claiming that GT5 is best because of the name on the box (just like FF).
