3 - Actually...........
There are 4 maps, Chinatown (seen in the vid), Creek (Kinda like overgrown but much more woodland) , Broadcast (Based on the Campaign mission 'Charlie don't surf') and a Free bonus map Killhouse, based on the training level in the single player campaign. And since they said that the 4th one is a free bonus map that leads me to believe that the other maps will have to be paid for.

... more DLC we will have to pay extra for! Thanks Activision(!)

I'm getting sick and tired of this BS...

(yeah yeah, you dont 'have' to buy it... )
Kinda sucks when you already paid 60 EURO (not that toymoney dollars, but euros, which are actually still worth something in the real world), it's kinda sad and annoying to see more content only 3 months later where they want you to spend even more money on...

Actually these are hard worked maps by the infinity ward team so i see no problem in paying for them. you pay what you get thats ok, and as long as they dont charge a fortune for it im ok with it, 4.99 would be an apropiate pricetag

5.2 - Well...
... in the days of PC, extra maps were just free, as a treat to the gamers who bought the game. It showed that the developers cared for their fanbase, and for their product, to give us something extra to extend the joy we had with the game.

Sadly, it seems those days are over, and developers only care about our money.

Anyway, I say, talk with your money, not your mouth, so I wont be picking up any game which uses DLC scamming, and just wait till they hit budget price instead, and maybe then pick them up.

I would have bought Crackdown fullprice, but because of the DLC, I still havent bought it, and TBH, I doubt that I ever will, now that other and better sandbox games are coming out.
Forza 2 I also wasnt planning on buying, same reasons (but I won a copy in a contest instead)

Naruto, I LOVE the anime, but will never pick up the game, which altough it's good, it asks for extra money for the DLC characters and stuff... which I'm not willing to do.

Sadly though, a lot of people seem to have no problems at all with first paying full price for a game, and then having to spend even more to get the full, complete experience.
So I guess, sadly, DLC (which you have to pay for) is here to stay. :(

yes i have played nearly every pc game available, dont try to educate me please, im gaming for over 20 years now, no matter what platform.

but in the times of these graphic intense games it takes serious manpower to develop such high quality maps, and that cost quite some money on the dev side.

And yes those times are over you gotta pay for such content, or rely on custom maps wich "almost" never offer new assets (mainly reused ones from the maingame/maps).

I'm totally against keeping finished stuff out of the game just to sell them as dlc later on, but i support if they develop new content after the release to keep the game fresh and then im willing to pay for it.

And yes they should make the modtools available so people can use custom maps on consoles too.

That is a fair effort.

What did you think of agather christies , murder on the orient express.

I enjoyed it but i thought some of the side missions were absurd. But its nice to play something different.

What did you think?

ps/ paying for 3 maps is not very fair. I will never pay for extra content. especially when its lag fun fest everytime i go on. Thats like paying for images on a profile.

Thanks to Live console gamers are used to getting riped off. Frankly I hate paid for DLC, because they tend to split the community. As if there isn't enough lag and disconnects now the paid maps will make everything worst.

agree @ above
well im bailing out of this discussion :)

i strongly support free DLC but i can "understand" when devs start charging for them (posted the reasons below). Thats all im saying nothing else.

you know my statement if the content is new developed i think its ok to pay for them, if its left out content from the maingame its not.

Live is a huge ripoff, and no i havent played agatha cristies :), (common sence would imply i havent played all games but many) :)

i meant with my sentence that i played far to many games, mods whatsoever so im not a 15 old kid with the 360 beeing his first console and getting used to be ripped off.

You paid 60 euros?! Ok, I paid 60 dollars and I think that the euro is almost double the dollar's worth so you pretty much paid double what americans paid for it, lol. I'll be the first to say that the dollar is almost worthless nowadays (thanks to bush, the "federal" reserve, and the BS NAFTA) but at least it's not NWO money. Honestly, i would still be supporting my country's currency and not that One World Government money. They are making the dollar worthless because they are trying to push the Amero on us and make N. America into the NAU.

put onto the point, I understand the cost of making new maps now but really, it's the PS3 gamers that are getting screwed on the charge for the maps. Xbox live gamers are used to getting screwed and paying for DLC when Sony's has usually been free (- full games) because the DLC on ps2 was free (ex. Camos for snake in MGS3). I know that sounds fanboyish but it's true.

Also, wasn't Overgrown and Downpour DLC maps? We couldn't play them on 4 person split screen on my friend's 360 so I thought they were extra maps.

Yes to everything you wrote. Consoles game publishers should either start offering mod tools, or give out maps for free.

Like I said in the other thread yesterday, for REAL content, I don't mind paying. Coop, new campaign missions, etc, are all great things that I would spend money on.

But I won't pay for maps.

why are 4 mp maps (made by the dev and not some modder) not worth paying for ?

Sure i've seen many great mod-maps, but it's still a difference if they are made by the dev who can actually hold the quality level. There are professional mappers at work here.

I understand what you mean, but I have to repeat myself to explain.

(I said this in another thread, sorry.)

I can make you a brand new map for COD4 in 8 hours for the PC. I have the tools. I have most of the statics I need, and I can borrow statics from other modders. Most PC gamers are used to getting free mod content from like-minded people who are interested in expanding the games they love.

COD4 is a game I love. The campaign is emotionally devastating, the multiplayer is invigorating (even though there are parts I don't like), and the overall graphics are great on every platform.

But I still have this PC mentality. Maps are easy to make. Anyone can make a map. You could make them, dude. With a couple of your friends you can test them and make them great.

I won't pay for maps. Full mods, yes. Extra story content, yes. Expansion packs, yes.

Not maps.

@ perseus

i'm taking about professional mapping not some thrown together custom maps.

sorry but as im also working as a mapper/3d modeler i have to disagree greatly with you if you state you can make a fully balanced map in 8 hours, that is just bs sorry.

Making a new map from scratch building all the static-meshes, textures (diffuse, normal maps, speculars, aoc), lighting the map properly for mood, balancing and playtesting it, and in the end deliver a map in the same quality as in cod4 takes several mens work for quite some time.

"Maps are easy to make. Anyone can make a map. "

whatever sure everyone can "make" them few of them are playable even less are good. you get professional quality from infitiy ward for those maps stop acting like its a nobrainer....

the thing is also those people want to be paid right ? modders are mostly young (live at theyre parents, or earn theyre money on other jobs and offer theyre sparetime for the modding)

I#m not saying that paying for maps is good but its going to become a standard since the amount of work put in the graphics nowadays take alot of time and professionals.

"Like I said in the other thread yesterday, for REAL content, I don't mind paying. Coop, new campaign missions, etc, are all great things that I would spend money on."

whats the difference a campaign mission is also JUST a map with scripting, sure it has more funktionality coding and sound, but why is a mp map (wich needs extensive balancing and tweaking) less worth paying for then singleplayer maps ?

Coop is mainly only some coding to add some network funktionality intot he singleplayer camaping ?

And i guess with infinty ward offering us a kickass singeplayer WITH a huge working multiplayer component is allready more then we get from most games, most publisher would have split them up into 2 fullprice games

You work as a 3d mapper/modeller and you disagree? I find that hard to believe.

For a complete modification like Project Reality or Forgotten Hope (for BF2), you're right. It takes a long time to get everything together.

But if you can use the same statics, same weapons, and same animations, you can make a new map in 8 hours. I don't care how different the location is, you can reuse most of the statics.

Now, I must say that I agree that most fan-made content is crap. But have you ever seen Project Reality and Forgotten Hope? Admittedly, these aren't 8 hour maps, these are complete modifications. But these are mods that are free to download.

FREE. YES I'M USING CAPS LOCK. BECAUSE THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. You can buy BF2, which is years old, and download a couple of mods that update everything from the graphics to the weapons to the freaking game engine, and it's free. M'ther'F'ing Free man!

Free!

Why should I pay for IW to make me a couple of maps that reuse a bunch of old crap that they had laying around when I can download it for free if I'm a PC gamer?

I love consoles, I really do. I converted from PCs to consoles because I was sick of buying new PC cards and other stuff.

But if they keep up with this DLC sh%t, I'm out. I'll buy a new PC instead. And I'm a gamer that pays for every game he buys.

I don't care how much time IWD spent on these new maps, facts are facts. The line between a professionally crafted map and good user made free map are very, VERY thin. This a fact that has been proven time and time again since most of the best map makers are frequently hired on as developers.

Thats why PC will not be getting any of maps from the console's DLC. In the PC world if you try to charge people for maps they will laugh or flame you off the net. Instead PC users will get their "offical" maps for FREE via the map making contest.

This is just another reason why the PC's CoD community is far better off than the console's CoD community. Its an embarrassment of riches really.

1. PC CoD 4 support dedicated servers and 30 players. All maps are available in any game mode. Wanna play Shipment in domination? PC players can but console players can't, and thanks to dedicated servers PC players never had to put up with IWD half assed match services. That epic huge.

2. Aside from just an unlimited supplies of free maps PC players get new skins, new weapon models, new weapon sounds etc etc etc...

3. Thanks to the free official maps from the contest, the PC community will not be split between the haves and have not like the console's DLC. Here's the insulting thing though, sooner or later the console's DLC maps will make their way to the PC for free too!

4. CoD 4 for the PC cost $20 less than any console version LOL!

So IWD, console players pay more for their game, get an inferior version of the same game, must deal with lousy connectivity issue via the match making "service", have no access to new skins/models and various user created content...the least, and I mean LEAST you could've done is release this map pack for free.

But I guess 2.4 million copies sold isn't enough to appease their greed.

What happened to the competition for making maps for COD4? I hope IW themselves made these maps and not took someone else's for free and charging us. ALso point to note is that 2 of the maps are modified versions of previous incarnations and not totaly new so why the hell charge for that?

Seriously though, using a map from prior COD's and tweaking it thats so boring! First off this is not from COD2 if anyone caught that I seem to remember playing that level for hours on end on COD and CODUO so they cant even remember where they got it from. I love COD4 the multiplayer levels are awesome (a little small for my liking) and original, but, this whole use old maps stuff is just bugging me. I wonder if they will even change the 2 machine gun emplacements the one in the second story window and the other on the street behind the small sand bag wall. They had that whole contest for map making and this is all they could come up with! Shame on yall, but, ill still be buying them unless they are for free which would make me less mad knowing I didnt pay for this level twice if you know what i mean.

If you pay, they'll keep selling them. If you refuse to pay, then either we'll get them for free one day, or someone will hack the systems properly ('360 or PS3) and we'll be able to use mods.

Either way, we win.

lol if everyone quits buying the maps they will just quit making them.

COD:4 was well worth the money. If they want to make more maps for money then thats fine. If you dont want to pay for them then GOOD for you, some of us dont mind paying for DLC as long as its good.

They are providing a service, take it or leave it and quit your b*tching.

Gamers are some of the worst whiners on the face of the planet. Things take a lot more money to make today then they did last decade. Get over it. If you have a problem paying for extra maps then dont buy them but dont ask developers who have worked really hard to produce a map to give them away for free.
Shut this user up Let user speak
perseus - 644 days 14 hours ago
9.1 - Dude. Seriously.
How is what I'm saying whining? I want free stuff, or I want the ability to make it myself. If I can do it on the PC, I should be able to do it on a console.

If we stop buying this worthless DLC crap, one of two things will happen. Either they will stop making or they will start making it worth the money.

Again, I repeat myself by saying this but obviously you haven't read the whole thread, I'm not saying that DLC is bad, I'm saying that 4 maps or a few extra weapons is. A semi-literate 12 year old boy is capable of making a new map for COD4 for the PC, why the f*k should I spend money on it for the PS3?

If they give me coop, or give me new missions, or give me a new campaign entirely, I'm not only willing to pay, I'd line up for it.

So I ain't whining, I'm b*tching. And for good reason, too. I want what PC gamers get, otherwise I'll never buy another multiplayer PS3 game again.

But you can do what you want. Go ahead. Pay for maps that come for free on the PC. No problem dude. It's your money.

B) IF you dont have the money and they charge for the maps; Dont buy them!!!"

It has nothing to do with having money, it has to do with the principle. Others get great content for free, and I want the same thing. If they don't offer the maps for free, I'll stop playing COD4, and will buy UT3. I'm okay with this, why do you care so much about why I care?

Maybe you've never played a real mod.
