GTA IV likely region locked on Xbox 360

Recent releases from Rockstar Games have indicated that the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV will be region locked. The news is a bad sign for those living in areas where titles are normally delivered later or where video games carry a high premium.

Microsoft's console employs a system which allows game publishers to choose whether they wish their titles to be locked to a single region. Rockstar Games' only released title on the platform so far, Table Tennis, is locked to the region in which it is purchased. The company's next game for the console, Bully: Scholarship Edition, was today confirmed by VideoGamesPlus to have suffered the same fate.

All titles for Sony's PlayStation 3 are region-free, although many retailers refuse to send PlayStation titles to the European Union for legal reasons.

Just to clarify, a region locked game is one which only works on a console bought in the same market in which the game was. For example, if you buy Table Tennis in the USA it will only work on consoles in North America.
Updates:
This is a RUMOR. I apologize for selecting the wrong category this time.

Although region-locking is pretty stupid. It's normal. Most of X360 titles are region locked. This shouldn't be news at all.

On the other hand, if GTA IV would've been region-free on X360. Now that would've been news.

Doesn't bother me. This would only bother me if I lived in an area where the game was censored. If a game is censored or banned then I would want to import it. Like GTA3 was censored in australia. It is possible this game could be censored somewhere as well.

5 - 'legal reasons'
"All titles for Sony's PlayStation 3 are region-free, although many retailers refuse to send PlayStation titles to the European Union for legal reasons. "

...which is absolutely ridiculous, cause it isnt illegal to sell an American game to an individuel European costumer.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (ps3) is only available UNCUT in the USA. The UNCUT version is the ONLY version I would consider buying. I should be allowed to import the region-free uncut American version!

I really wish all this region-coding would stop, OR that they would stop making different (priced, or in terms of content) versions for different markets!

Its only retailers that refuse to export.... You can buy these games for days on ebay and amazon... The reason they state legal reasons is because most countries have different content standards... Games that are m here in america would be AO in europe or uk. These countries dont allow ao games to be sold.

I'm sure the legal reasons have more to do with import tariffs than anything else. Censorship probably isn't as much of the issue.

REALLY HOW THE HELL IS THIS NEWS?

The vast majority of 360 games are region locked, so why go to the trouble of speculating that ANOTHER 360 game will be the same?

Utter Nonsense

9 - Um, so what?
Im sure Rockstar wants their game to get into peoples 360s pretty quick, so they can rake in the profits. i live in South Africa, and its always the austrailians and us that get stuff a day or two late, but I checked at my local stores, and they're getting it on the US listed release date.then again, with reguards to austrailia, they've been many times where we got games before them.

10 - Big news...
for those who may live in countries where games with this sort of content is not allowed to be sold at retail stores. GTA is the sort of game in which you want to receive the full content and not a censored version.

True but if someone lives in a country where it's sensored they could just import the ps3 version which will be region free.

Alot of you people say you dont care, because you never go through the same crap that Europeans go through. Fortunately if they want, they could get it for their PS3. Good thing Sony changed the region code rule for games.

The PS3 version may very well sell more it's first week because of this.
