Iron Man, Hulk, Alien games power Sega's reinvention

It's no mean feat powering up from being video game publisher No. 14 in 2004 to becoming the industry's sixth largest third-party publisher today. But Sega of America is tasting that success. Industry analysts credit its president and COO since 2005, Simon Jeffery, as the force behind the company's struggle to reinvent itself.

In fact, come May 2, when the Marvel Enterprises-produced "Iron Man" blasts into movie theaters, Sega is counting on the day-and-date release of its video game version to inject even more life into what was once a very anemic portfolio.

"Historically, Sega hasn't been part of the license business," explains Jeffery. "But we felt that in order to gain market momentum, we absolutely needed to have big game-appropriate movie licenses under our belt."

1 - of the 3 listed games above (Iron Man, Hulk, Alien).....
I believe Alien is the only one looking to have real promise as a big seller... the other two appear to be your standard, "lets make more money off of this movie with a video game" types

Don't know, Ironman looks really good by Sega. What they have lost since the Genesis days is a real ability to market, advertise, and promote their games. Did you see how fast Sega Rally 3 came and went? That was a fantastic driving game, and in alot of ways better than PGR4. Sega could have added Sega Rally into their sports porfolio, they just didn't grow the sports area the way they should have. In sports you can make money in so many ways. Sega just put an athelete on the cover, did an annual budget for marketing and let the games fly out. There was no way they were going to beat EA doing that. Sports is a beast all it's own, and if don't treat at as such you will pay the price. I thought things would change with Take Two having Visual Concepts...No, unless its GTA they don't have a real clue how to market their games. Bioshock was a word of mouth industry behemoth that got out the gate at the right time. EA wins because they know you have to treat sports games like an event everytime, every year without fail...Mr. Jeffery I hope someone from your office reads this, because Sega can do better. To much lying in that porfolio out of any of these developers. I will say though your focus is spot on...When the times right, Sega will be a monster again...

In other words:

"We're making some crappy games that little kids will buy because they'll play anything and they love super heroes! Aliens is directed to our older category, but it will suck too."

Joey needs bubbles; I gotcha covered.

The Genius has spoken.

Bubbles please :|

6 - glad for them...
I like the fact they are trying new stuff but I would like to see a revival of more of their classic arcade titles. Maybe release them on PSN or live arcade. Afterall they are "arcade" games:

Afterburner
Thunderblade (want this remade badly)
Super Hang-on
Power Drift
Wrestle War
Galaxy Force I / II (maybe even make III)
Space Harrier or the sudo sequel planet harriers
Daytona USA (yeah baby)
Super Monaco GP
Indy 500
Rad Mobile
Golden Axe 2 (Revenge of Death Adder)
many many more.

Come on sega. Release these great arcade games on live arcade or psn.

PS: Virtua cop series would do nicely on the wii. Anyone heard rumor if that is coming out? Ghost squad and soon house of the dead but why not add in virtua cop?

Both Alien games are promising. We've already seen GearBox's FPS Aliens and the other RPG one, is being developed by Obsidian, makers of KOTOR2.

As for Hulk and Iron Man, I'm not too optimistic though Iron Man game was announced and shown last year so if all this time they've been working on it, maybe it could be something decent.
