Lost Odyssey Sequel on the way?

If you've been enjoying Mistwalker's Lost Odyssey then you're in for some good news. It would appear that Lost Odyssey just may be Microsoft's own Final Fantasy, with sequels already planned.

Who cares lol.

Your 360 will have this great title and you'll only have to change discs on *your 360* only after many hours.

2.1 - just wondering?
it`s a logical question, considering the 1st was on 4.

why?

because i`ll get a 360 if i can get it for $100 or less, which i might be able to soon, i`m a GAMER.

i refuse to buy one from RETAIL, ever again.

so yeah i care.

i dont see how Generally favorable reviews is a failure...any FF fans that have played it seem to love it...it may be on 4 disks, but how 40hr+ rpgs does the PS3 have that the 360 doesnt?

While I hated Blue Dragon, LO is a great JRPG, definitely much better than any JRPG across all consoles so far.

I'm enjoying the game and have hit disc 3, but it really is not good enough to be spawning sequals. Sorry to any huge fans, but it just isn't.. Far too linear, and the plot is really contrived.
Love the srt design and style though...:)

Lets hope they really bring some really high quality visuals in titles and even some CGI for Japanses gamers sence they used many discs in the first one.

I always find it funny that PS3 fans find this game so intresting.

#5, no offence but its really hard to believe you'd ever own a 360, could be wrong but your comments suggest otherwise.

Owned a 360 machine since release date - had RROD twice but still repair it as I need the thing.
I've owned every single games machine, and I do mean every machine since the original PONG machines.
I develop games for a living. I'm credited on 4 360 titles, and maybe 30 to 40 titles over my 15 year games development career. Many of these titles have been huge franchises that every single gamer will know.
If you wish to believe I do not own a 360, simply because I fail to kneel down and pray before it like you loser trolling kids do, that's your business, but you are sadly mistaken.
Unlike you, I make my living from games, and myself and my wife still love playing them even after all these years. I'm a real games player, not a corporate whore, and having worked for all the current major protagonists I'm quite happy for them all to do well. More games development = more work opportunities and a greater chance that I will like some of the games.

None of this changes the fact that this title is a very mediocre title at best - I'm playing the korean version as that was available well before the western ones and plays in full english. I fail to see why my views would make you doubt I've played it - the majority of reviewers seem to concur, did they not play it either?

Thats your opinion about that member.

Don't force your views on me.

Hope some of you give this game a chance sometime.

MSFT needs a great Japanses franchise one way or the other your opinion is besides the point.

6.4 - To Titntin...
I respect your opinion and position being in the industry and all I like that you gave a valid explaination of your thoughts on this game. But even with that said I would have to disagree with you on this game being mediocre (I just hit disc 4 myself). When you say the game is to linear and plot to contrived is were we clash and thats not too say the game isnt linear or the plot isnt contrived but that in this style of game isnt it suppose to be. I could see if this was a Oblivion type of game or online multiplayer rpg game like Phatasy star, but these type of games are normally made this way to tell a story one way not create your own as you go along. Now if you dont like the genre thats a different issue altogether but I think that all the goals this game set out to accomplish it did and that after a few sequals it could become a rpg staple.

@adonis
Thanks for your reasoned and well written comments.
It makes a change for someone on this site to be able to disagree with me without acting like I kicked their favorite puppy, so bubbles for you mate.

I do actually love Jrpg's and have played them since the very earliest days. I've no problem with random battles and 'leveling up' at all, its a perverse part of the appeal of these titles! Indeed, the very fact that I've played this for 20 hours and intend to finish it sometime, is an indication that this game is no disaster!
However, one of the elements I really enjoy about this style of game, is the feeling that I have a large area to explore - wandering around the wilderness, getting caught up in fights I'm not ready for, discovering side quests and eventually finding the path that lets the tale start to unfold again. An excellent example would be my fave jrpg FF7, with huge wilderness areas you could go and explore, and totally hidden sections and bosses. So far - that simply has not happened, because at each stage of the story there has simply been one linear path to take that leads me to the next scene, completely destroying any sense of freedom of choice. On the first disc, there was about 4 hours of play with out a single fight at all, then a small linear path and a boss battle. To beat the boss, you need to run up and down the same small section of path leveling up a bit as there's been no opportunity to do so up until then!
It also seems to rely on some pretty under developed old game mechanics for some of its levels, pushing a few boxes around, going on missions that are simply walk around and pick up icon missions, etc etc. I guess I just feel their could have been a bit more imagination there..
As for the story, I guess everyone will react differently. Initially i liked it and thought it was well crafted, but it seems intent on provoking a tear jerker moment whenever it can, and this seems so contrived as to lose its grip on me - the whole 'funeral section' for instance was seriously over played and seemed to last for ever. You couldn't call the lighting of the torches bit anything other than dull, and doing it correctly was a relief just so that you could continue!
In terms of an inventive open JRPG, I feel this style of game has been done a lot better in the past - there are at least a dozen PS2 titles that are actually better games. Where it does succeed, is in the development of the characters as the story unfolds, and its technically very pretty to look at (even if it does drop frames constantly, no issue for this style of game). I also like the art style and the artists have done a great job.

I know you may disagree with my sentiments, but your reply deserved a fuller explanation of where I was coming from on this title! When they make a sequel, I hope they fix some of the concerns I've talked about, as theres no doubt theres a brilliant game here trying to burst out of the shackles!
Again, thanks for taking the time to comment properly!

if you havent completed the game you really arent one to judge that it isnt "good enough" to spawn sequels.

as far as jrpgs go... the story is top-notch, combat is quite easy and standard turn-based with a couple new elements.

it deserves a sequel, there is so much potential here.

and who cares how many discs a game has. What does that matter in any way shape or form? Back in the day, people used to be thrilled to get a game with more than one disc because it showed off lots of value. Now ever since this whole bluray thing came along people start to hiss and boo at the mere sound of more than one disc.

If you're responding to me about the game being on many discs I was saying they can really make a mind blowing franchise if they decide to poor FF-like resouces in the titles. I don't own a PS3. Nevermind this comment if you're responding to the Sony fans in here; they're all on ignor so I can't see what they're saying.

I was just saying they can apply GOW like visuals or DMC4 like visuals in every niche of the game and even add some CGI movies for the Japanese.

This being the first game, allowing it to become a series opens the door to more. Count me in asap. Anyone complaining about the amount of disc can take a squat on the PS2 HDD. For all that was good for $100 bucks wasted...pfft...

Guys stf if you like the ps3 then fine but no need to bash on a great game.

I have only a ps3 but i played all the 360 rpg at my friends house and im starting to get really pissed that the ps3 has less RPG than the 360 seing as it's my favorite title.

And since when do you care about scores FFXII didn't score as good yet it was a great gem i can't wait for FFXIII and Versus(even if it's action/adventure) but i dont feel the need to bash other games Lost Odysee and Blue Dragon where great RPG's. If you think im a fanboy and all go on take away my bubles i know ill be buying WKC first day and i can't wait for FFXIII.

If you haven't played Lost Odysee or Blue Dragon and your lucky and your 360 didn't brake go take them their superb.

i'll definitely get Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey when i get a 360. they're probably the only games i'll get. Maybe Mass Effect if it doesn't go to PC. It's good they're planning a sequel. hopefully they've learned from this one and make the next one even better.

I wonder how much it sold in North America. I still want to play this but for a sequel I don't think the classic battle system they have will be enough. They are going to have to be a lot more ambitious.

i am not pissed off that it came with 4 discs, but i am pissed off because anything that comes with 4 discs should be EPIC and lost odyssey just isn't and didn't make a big splash on reviewers. Also, due to the fact that it's a new series.

18 - This game is not perfect, but it is fun and great!
but of course, mistwalker doesn't have the 100+ manpower than square-enix does.

however, they did make a rather well done old-school rpg.

it's like coming back to see a old friend after a long time away from college.

This game is a diamond in the rough, and i am sure LO2 will blow it out the water.

i consider Lost Odyssey more of a final fantasy than FF 11 or FF12 midgame.

20 - Some people...
Why do some people take things out of context? The 1st time i ever heard Mistwalker was working on a game called Lost Oddyssey ,I knew it would have many sequels. I assumed it was a turned based jrgp, just cuz of the name. It sounded way to similer to Final Fantasy, and, I was right.it was oldschool turn based, so it rockd. Nw, I dnt thnk Lost Oddyssey 2 would have anythng to do with LO1 ,any more than final fantasy 7,8,9,10 had to do with each other.they'l change the characters and storys everytime.

21 - I just bought the game yesterday
I played it for 2 hours while my son napped, and its all I've been thinking about today. I went online to a few sites and seen one of the characters, Sed, the one who takes care of the aircraft I'm guessing. I'm guessing Sed replaced Sid, lol.

You can really feel the Final Fantasy relation in the game. I was really impressed with the ring system, that keeps the combat system fresh. You just can't hit a button over and over to accomplish the same tasks.

I didn't get far in 2 hours as I was exploring the landscape carefully looking for items (seems to be a lot hidden around).

There were a lot of games I've been debating buying, and I'm glad I settled on this one.

I am kinda mad because I found a lost ring, and turned in it... only to find out today its a part of a treasure hunt later. So I'm gonna start off from an older save next time.

23 - Eh...
I am one of the biggest RPG fans you'll ever know and honestly Lost Odyssey isn't all that great. It is a decent traditional RPG, but the story just isn't good enough to spawn sequels; unless they just keep the name and change everything else just like Final Fantasy. I am up to disc 2 and I am literally forcing myself to play it just because of my devotion to complete an RPG.

25 - Bring Seth Back!!! Sarah is pointless!!!!!
They better make a sequel!!!! I want them to bring Seth back!! She was my favourite character.

By the way, did anyone actually see the point of Sarah on Lost Odyssey. I thought she was a pointless character.

Seth and Kaim would have been such a better couple!!! I've said this before and a lot of people have agreed with me.

I think they should keep most of the old characters e.g Kaim, Seth (if they bring her back!!) Cooke, Mack and possible Sed as long as he is not too old by then, Ming should be in it and Jansen because he is just needed for a bit of humor. I guess you could just skip Sarah out.....
And new characters too!!!!!!!
