GTA IV Exclusive Content Equal To San Andreas/Vice City

So it Looks like Microsoft has finally announced what it's Exclusive DLC deal w/ Rockstar really means, according to Microsoft each episode of DLC content will be equal to the games San Andreas and Vice City for Ps2/Xbox. They have also stated that Digital Downloads will be the new way to deliver the GTA "Expansions."

So it looks like with this new announcement if you were planning on playing the Vice City/San Andreas versions of GTA IV the 360 is the Definitive version to get, with the first expansion arriving as early as Fall this year and the next one to follow-up in 2009.

GTAIV DLC

* When MS says exclusive, they mean that no other system can have DLC content for GTAIV

* It will be bigger than a lot of people think. GTA3 Vice City and San Andreas were basically expansions of GTA3. Think of the DLC that way. We are talking major expansion for GTAIV
* No price has been discussed yet. It's up to Rockstar on whether or not they will charge for it
* If successful, DLC may be the new way to deliver GTA expansions

I dont' think so. 360 = PS3 until you download and pay for the additional stuff. Then it'll be the definitive version, yes.

Notice they didn't say you get it for free. You pay for GTA4, and you get San Andreas/Vice City, not for free, but cheaper than SA/VC.

GTAIV will be great on both consoles but I doubt that the exclusive content will really be enough to encourage people to buy 360s suddenly.

If it is actually fantastic then it's a shame people like myself will just never experience it. Pity like. I wouldn't want an X-box and I don't like paying for downloadable content.

Um...

Vice City is a good example of something that could've been DLC for GTA3. San Andreas? Not so much. That game was epic on scale. More like an Oblivion with Gangsters.

GTA4 isn't as big as San Andreas (though it may have more missions), so I highly doubt the DLC will be. Vice City sounds more reasonable to me. It'll be interesting to see if they add new areas with the 360 DLC or just new missions. The long wait between episodes sounds like more than just mission building, but who knows?

Either way, it's still a solid reason to get the 360 version over the PS3 version, but not necessarily to buy a 360 if you already have a PS3.

well you clearly dont know anything about the drm issue so i would stop talking about it if i were you. the content can still be used you simply have to sign on to xbox live to do so. while it is an issue if say your internet goes down, 90% of the time you wouldnt even notice it, since if you have DLC you most probably are signed on most of the time. i know this becuase i have this same "problem" and it is in no way near as big as the hardware issue. so please piss off.

I wonderi if it's new areas as well or if the size of San Andreas (Which as you say is epic in scale. Love the Oblivion with Gangsters comment) is the size of the story again but set in the same location... If you get what I mean. It does sound extremely good.

I only have a PS3 (may well be getting a 360 for NG2 by the looks of it) but the DLC doesn't bether me that much. Although I rushed for 100% I found San Andreas too big and was glad to get it over with by the end and never played it as much as I did VC but as I say I may have had game overload from trying to reach 100% asap.

To anybody who really LOVES GTA (and I know there's a lot of you) If the bitbag is right and you have the choice of consoles, looks like the 360 may well be the version to get.

That is more than a little expansion pack or a couple of cars and a new gun. MS is giving us major episodic content, thanks guys. At this point, I can see GTA5 going Xbox exclusive.

With Frontlines, Fable 2, NG2, Too Human, Gears 2, Halo Wars, Left 4 Dead, XNA and now this BIG EXCLUSIVE CONTENT. The 360 is realy starting to take 08 away from the competition "again".

Supports the 360 when they decide to release GTA5 then it has a chance of being exclusive. But, in 3 more years i think Microsoft will have moved on to the 720 or whatever and Rockstar will not want to make it exclusive for a new console with no install base and it will be multi or exclusive to the PS3.

...unless GTA IV on the 360 outsells its PS3 counterpart 5:1. Even then I could still see a scenario where Rockstar would make GTA5 for the PS3 as well. Rockstar is extremely loyal to Sony, as it should be seeing what a devastating combo PlayStation and Rockstar have been in the past. And by the way, I don't think the 360 version is a lock to double or triple the sales of the PS3 version, even with the DLC. I think MS needs the DLC to push sales of their version, and if they are smart they would push the DLC in a major ad campaign for the 360 version of GTA IV, beginning this March... Sony is counting on awakening a sleeping giant of casual gamers/GTA fans into buying a PS3 because of this game....

You should notice the word "chapters". That means an add on to the story or in this case missions. The two exclusive parts that you will most likley have to pay 15-20 dollars for are missions but the extra downloadable content that isnt exclusive is guns cars etc etc.

There are going to be enough missions to satisfy any player so this extra content is just a microft tatic to make moneyjust like they do with everything else they got.

i already got a DS3 for $60 from playasia.com, so rumble isn't a problem. i'm not worried about acheivements so thats not a big deal to me and probably not a big deal to other PS3 owners.

Yeah, I'd much rather have a reliable system. That's what makes me buy a console. THEN the quality of games. Nothing is worse than ending up with a peice of broken crap.

But I can't see how you could get downloadable content that's "equal to Vice City/San Andreas". Xbox Live doesn't do large downloads. Has there been one over a gig yet? It'll almost certainly be a few extra missions.

Edit. just to further my comment (looked a little fanboyish), there is no way the same content on the PS3 would generate that figure if sold on the PSN. Unlike San Andreas/Vice City they can use the stuff already on the disc from GTA IV the game, if GTA IV fits on 8 gigs then the expansions using the GTA IV game for textures/sound/your character/huge part of the coding means the 2 expansions can be as big as Vice City/San Andras and only be 3-4 gigs easy.

If we can use mods just like UT3 plus we have a hard drive and Im sure R* will use hard drive to store vehicles and building If someone is able to replace or modify these files in the HD , PS3 version will kill the extra content without a doubt.

I don't see what the appeal of even more stuff to do in open world games is. I want a game that I don't have to bleed to try and beat. I played GTA on the original Playstation and a bit of the second, by the third I was over it. Its all too big and too much.

and im being 100% serious here when you buy a gta u play it all day and all night u dont put down the pad till u complete it and if u play a 360 until u complete this game it will die thats at least 80% garanted since sanandreas took almost a week to complete and they said this was longer u know it wil die and the amount of power that 360 uses up it will be a pain but u deside what to bye it 4 not me

The game will be great on both systems. Overall, I admit the 360 version will have the downloadable content but as you have to pay for it, and there's no news on what it actually contains.

Personally, I'd rather play it on superior hardware.

If you own both consoles get the 360 version. But if you're gonna buy a Console there is more reason to buy a PS3, than a downloadable expansion of GTA IV that's gonna fill up all your hard drive.

You know how expansions sell so much, especially ones you have can only download if you have broadband.

If you think downloadable content the size of San Andreas/Vice city is a bad thing you should get the PS3 version.

Feel like spending extra money just to get rumble/HD cables? PS3 version.

sanandreas took up 8 gig you guys that have a 13 gig hard drive beter delete every thing out of it to fit it and then vice city took up about 5/6 gig so i have to lol at the 20 gig owners anny way wonder how much these cost if there the size of a game maybe £30 each? $60

Both will get DLC..but the episodes are a xbox 360 exclusive...the ps3 might get missions...but the whole idea is the episodes...which are different and exclusive...see how reading helps?

Stop being an idiot. Once again, an expansion doesn't need to be the same size as a game, because it already uses the coding from the physical game disc. They might be a couple of gigs each. So no, it's not as simple as 8+8=16.
