Burnout Paradise officially flopped on Live

Msxbox-World writes: "Regardless of the sales and regardless of positive reviews, looking at the Live activity it appears that EA's racer has failed to make any sort of impact at all (failing to enter the top 10 most played games since it was launched)."

So a game does not make the top 10 most played on live and that means the game has flopped ? OK

This just proves that Live has a lot of great games. I don't think it's a flop, It's an online racer surrounded by online shooters.
COD4, Gow, Halo3 and a host of other games. Most of Sony's big game sthis year have been single player.

cod4, RFOM, Motorstorm, UT3, R6V, Warhawk were all PSN enabled games.

Still ... I wouldn't say this game is a flop. It's sold well enough to make it a success. I, like you, just feel as though online racers will be overshadowed by online shooters.

I love this game's online features, It's just hard to get 8 people to complete a challenge or a race. The fact that they left it as open as they did; while excellent to me, leaves it too open to play with random gamers. You are always going to have a prick that won't do the challenge or takes you out constantly.

That said, I don't want my games dumbed down for the general masses. I just wish they would stick to Halo.

1.5 - I don't know about anyone else but...
...I didn't buy Burnout to play on Live!

It's always been a fantastic single player title - mulitplayer over Live! always felt tacked on for me. Multiplayer with folks in the same room is another story though..

2 - That really is a damn shame
because Burnout Paradise is one of the Best Multiplayer experiences Ive had so far, from the Ultra Smooth Online Transition System, to the "Taken Out" Snapshot with the EyeToy (or any USB camera), to the Graphics, this game is Truly an Overlooked Gem.....

2.1 - You are right!!
just give me a restart option, closed circuit option, and team racing. that would make this game killer. speaking of racers, look how bad PGR4 has been. did it ever show up? Since 2, things have really went south. sad for such a great game.

So sad and stupid. Heck the sales of the game weren't that hot either. So when devs try to take a great series into a great new direction and try to innovate and creat a really awesome game, it flops while the yearly upgrades of EA like Madden and NFS sell millions and dominate on and offline charts.

Can't say this is great news but good find. This is just sad.

i guess most people would rather play offline then online, and also, just because it didnt make the top ten, doesnt mean its a failure, it just had a slow start

i've been playing it on psn and from what i saw not a lot of people are playing it online. the game is amazing and it deserves better. usually when i search for a free burn game the most i get is 8 rooms.

i'm at +70 hours and only %80 done. still didn't get to the show time and time challanges. this game is insane.

;) I've got 100% and played for just over 40 hours :p

It's annoying, I want to try some of the online challenges but hardly anyone else does when I go on it

are single player games and shouldn't be counted.

This list is dumb.

7.2 - Since when are the facts dumb?
Are you trying to say that because they are single player games that they weren't played by people who were connected to "Live". Perhaps you are not aware that every game that a person plays while connected to "Live" is also connected to "Live" and can be counted very accurately or perhaps you are dumb.

I doubt hes dumb seeing as hes making a valid point. One of the main features of Burnout Paradise is the online, as the SP can soon get boring. So it should be compared to other MP games, and SP games like AC should be compared to other SP games.

Mixing the two is 'dumb'.

7.4 - The comparison in the article is not...
of most played multiplayer games on Live, but of most played period. Therefore the comparison is valid.

Pain70 - 684 days 12 hours ago
7.5 - Paradise should have an advantage
this meaures TOTAL game play. SP and MP combined. some of these games don't even have a MP aspect. games that do should be a shoe in for a top 10 spot. if they are worth the time to play of course. we can debate if this game is great or not, but if nobody plays it, it really doesn't matter what we think. the masses have the final word and in return, publishers will give us what "we" want in the future. that is why all the cookie cutter crap floating around the shelves right now!!!

8 - Bad game?
I keep telling myself that Burnout isn't a good game, but each time I play it I find that I zone out for about 2 hours.
I don't even go online with it much...just drive around as fast as i can finding jumps and stuff.
I guess time really does fly when you're having fun.

9 - I thought for full
online functionality with the 360 version you had to do an install to the HDD, which would mean that allot of people may not want to play a half a$$ed online because they don't have a HDD.

9.2 - This is not a hard drive issue.
Being that you need to have some kind of storage device to store your Live account on, everyone on Live has the capability to play this game on Live. Most people on Live have a hard drive simply because the memory cards are to small for all the game updates let alone demos,videos,etc.. Memory card users are very limited in their Live functionality.

10 - burnout paradise just wasn't as popular as the devs wanted
i personally think the change they made to the game's interface alienated a lot of fans.

so the game sold decently well, but the fanbase wasn't ready for that sort of online transition.

i guess most players were used to the burnout:takedown interface :/

11 - I'm a sony man. But to me this is a shock.
Off all games to "flop" online, why Burnout Paradise?

It's one of the most enjoyable games to date on ANY console right now. Nothing can be worse than when great games get shafted.

It just showes that the market is so damn stiff when it comes to online gaming, its dominated by fps games and it will take some time until people realise that more games are online capable then fps games.

Also you do have to consider that (only) the half of the 360 owners have xboxlive Gold wich is required for online play.

its not an xbox live only problem.

i can find full rooms too. its just that it's not as popular as expected.

14 - Harddrive
I think it is because you have to have a harddrive to play the game online. That is alienating a lot of people who would have played online.

16 - Well
Let's look at its competition. Once you see that, and understand that online racers have never really been tops, then you'll see why this happens. Doesn't mean that the game isn't doing well overall, it just means its not played online as much.

17 - PEOPLE DON'T GET CONFUSED!
ALL GAMES ARE COUNTED. EVEN SINGLE PLAYER ONES.

that means that these are the top games being played by people who are logged online. that means the xbox is connected to the internet, not necesarily playing an online game.

this is how microsoft sees which games are being played the most at the moment.

18 - This was actually the first Burnout title that I didn't like.
The navigation system was pretty confusing, and being forced to drive all the way back to the starting line of an event if I screwed up (which is really easy to do in an open world) was a horrible decision by Criterion. Not even an oversight; they did that on Purpose! Not being able to check traffic felt like a big step backwards as well.

Alex Ward needs to learn that Innovation by itself does not always equal a fun experience.

19 - Here's a question.
Why the hell are Assassin's Creed and Devil May Cry 4 on that list? Do they have some sort of magic XBL online multiplayer mode that I'm unaware of?

The online is a bit to open for its own good but I thought the game sold well. Paradise is one of the best yet but personally I like the menu games better since some times I didn't just want to drive around in the open world and I miss the Crash mode, Showtime wasn't my cup of tea.

24 - Burnout: P not great but not all bad
I rented Burnout Paradise for PS3 and did not entierly hate the game but I miss the old Burnout. The openess of the game and the repetitive races and the lack of crash mode seriously dampered the game for me. And I can't imagine why the dev thought it be a great idea to make you redo races that you've already won when you upgraded you license. WTF?
