Read GamePro's 'Nonsense' Gears of War 2 Article

Yeah, that overhyped Gears of War 2 GamePro article has been trashed by Epic honcho Mark Rein, who called the article "complete nonsense." Since the developer hasn't given the magazine an exclusive, what the hizzy heck does the article actually say? Kotaku commenter Willows scanned the article. It reads:

"Gears of War 2 hasn't officially been announced yet, but our sources rumor that the sequel to the Xbox 360 hit is indeed coming in 2008. And what better way for Microsoft to counter Metal Gear than with a few gears of its own.

But it's not enough to just retread shooter territory in Gears 2. The first game was great, but it didn't blow anyone away with originality. It simply put all the best aspects of other shooters into one amazing package. And aside from the obvious graphical superiority and online co-op mode, most of Gears of War was standard shooter stuff."

1.2 - The Truth is that
in reality MGS4 would need GeOW2 PLUS another 2 more games to counter it..

GeOW2 won't be the magic thing that some fanboys are hoping it to be, a lot of people have been wishing for sony to fail and over and over we've heard people, well this will cripple sony, i read so many times, the ps3 dies sept 25th, all these comments are just blind fanboyism and i'm quite tired of them

ps3 it's here to stay, and win and then some, accept it and stop trying to cling on to stupid ideas

Yea your right they need GEAR 2 but lets be real it's not going to happen until next year, hell I want it to come out this year so I can get another 360 but it's not so their going to be in trouble because Sony's lineup for this year is full of AAA titles. And right now everything is looking in Sony's favor, they out sold the 360 in 2007 and right now everyone is jumping the band wagon. MGS4, Killzone 2, LBP, R:FOM 2, Haze, Gran Turismo 5, Wipeout HD, White Knight, Motorstorm 2 and a ton of more games to be announced for this year. So yea your right they need GEAR 2 but will it happen.

Nah. The Xbox 360 has more than enough killer-apps for this year.

I havent even gotten through half the games I have now. I've got weeks of Lost Odyssey ahead... and, I've got three friends who just bought Xbox 360 for the sole purpose of playing EA NHL08 over LIVE every night.

I know it is popular for non-Xbox 360 owners to infer that Xbox 360 owners shouldnt be happy, I can assure you, I've got more games than time... and 2008 will prove to be worse in that regard Im sure:

I don't get how they can say the game isn't original. I've played a lot of shooters and Gears is NOTHING like any of them. First off, the third person camera (coupled by excellent animations, and other nice touches like the roadie run); second, the way cover is used combined with the dodge moves makes the cover system so much more useful than in any other game; third, I don't know of any other shooter that lets you smash people's heads in with your boot.

Sometimes I don't know WHAT it takes to be labeled "original."

I didn't disagree...but you should really look up some youtube videos of kill.switch. The cover system and dodge moves you're talking about are all in that game and kill.switch was out 3 years earlier, it just never got the attention it deserved

Maybe i should have said, The 360 has little to no good EXCLUCIVE titles coming out this year.. Yes, There's games coming out for the 360.. But none of them can stand up to Sony 08 lineup, no matter if you like them or not.

I would be surprised if epic right now isn't almost done with Gears 2, If I'm right we'll know for sure at E3.

Ps3 line-up this year looks good, but Iam looking forward to the 360 exclusives this year

Gears being on top of my list (that game alone will have more hype than MGS and FF here in the states, especially with a book and big budget movie in the works.

Then theres Banjo2 by Rare, Splinter Cell (made my Monreal Studios, the guys that Made SC 1 & 3 and Assasins Creed), Alan Wake (made by the guys that made Max Payne, and others like Too Human, Frontlines, Huxley, Fable 2, Halo Wars, and the Episodic Content of Gta4. And obviously there are more.... but along with awesome multi-plat games like RSV2, The force unleased, Dead Space, Condemned 2 and many more..... i mean seriously, xbox 360 owners will be plenty busy this year.

Why even care about exclusive titles? If both the PS3 and 360 play the same titles why does it matter. 360 already got GTA and Devil May Cry, what else can it take? Also why is it that titles have more options on the 360 than the PS3? GTA already announced that they would have downloadable content for the 360 that the PS3 will not have. Actually the PS3 version will have no downloadable content. So I have to wonder why exclusives even matter? And what is this line up that is so cool? I own both and I have not seen a single good game in 08, except MGS.

umm... do a little research.

PS3 has some awesome exclusives this year besides MGS4 (me being a shooter fan can name Resistance2 and KZ2)

as does the 360 have a bunch a great exclusives (hopefully Gears 2 and Banjo are at top of my list)

my point is that there are many great exclusives on both sides, games that can be multi-plat but they are not. Thats whats makes the consoles wars interesting. Sales and exclusive games.

The reason why KillSwitch was (and still is) a horrible game was the average graphics, bad storyline and it was way too easy. Now the pop-and-shot it did have, Gears just did it better. The AI was horrible and very easy and it offered no extra content. It got an A for effort, but an F overall.

How bout Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Konami, Square Enix... Insomniac's such a great developer that it will release their 3rd ps3 game in ps3's third year. Are you jealous of this or what man? Ps3 had Uncharted, Ratchet. Yes you're right. Two great games this year. Can you tell me what games 360 had in it's first year? Gears, what else?

people do forget that 360 had hardly any games till gears came out..mayb e pdz, and dead rising but you never heard "360 has no games", in ps3's first year with "no games" it outsold 360 with 3 goty contenders and the press just slapping ps3 all over the place

the one year advantage did really help 360 (it didnt help for dreamcast, but there were more reasons) so i dont think it will happen to 360

would be a great "i told you so" to every doubters face if the ps3 surpasses 360 (probably not wii though)
