Why 2K Games Pulled The Plug On The Wii's Civilization Revolution

These days, if a publisher's not actively working on something Wii related, stockholders are asking why. With Wii's momentum showing no signs of slowing, would a company actually cancel an in-development Wii title?

2K Games (and by association, their owners at Take-Two Interactive) did that last week, when IGN reveald revealed the console version of Sid Meier's strategy series, Civilization Revolution, was no longer coming to Wii, but still on for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS.

What they didn't announce was why they were canceling it, so MTV Multiplayer got in touch with Firaxis Programmer Scott Lewis to figure out what happened.

" unless they’re actually made from the ground up for the Wii version.
"

=/ you know it wouldnt hurt...Effort wouldnt hurt you know >=(

there is something i really dont get, cant they use an engine that is actually build for the PC put port it to the Wii an derive the engine in a way it works for the Wii...

i mean PC games like these are all about mouse clicking.
its funny they want to create a perfect match for the controllers.
although they acknowledge the IR, at the same time they actually ignore it too.

cant believe they would port a Ps2 version if there was one...like that would make a huge difference....
start from scratch it isnt going to cost you as much as the other developements!

“All of our assets were originally created with the 360/PS3 in mind. In order to bring them to the Wii, a great deal of work would have to go into making those assets look appropriate on Nintendo’s system. If we had started the project with all four platforms in mind, it is far more likely that we would not have put the Wii version of CivRev on hold,” said Lewis.

that was a very nice way of him saying "the Wii can't do fancy graphics."

it's a surprise to see a Wii version of something get canceled/put on hold, but i can understand their reasons. i mean, if it meant that the Wii version wouldn't be as good as the PS3/360 versions (naturally not graphically) because of the year long head start, i'd understand.

i mean, these types of games are more complicated than they look, and having to redesign the graphics engine, *AND program things like AI, and other variables, Wii owners would get shafted.

when the Wii version *DOES come out, however, i'm sure it will be what it's *SUPPOSED to be.

delays or holds aren't always the negative that people make them out to be. i mean, i'm a Playstation 3 fan for the most part (though i also own and enjoy a 360), so you know that i'm used to having things delayed or canceled, but often the result can be favorable (ie, the delay of Home seems to be helping the project more than hindering, if the latest screens and info is any indication).

5 - Bull*it. Sid Meier just afraid to fail
Graphics and control for DS are also absolutely different from 360/PS3 versions. But for DS development does not hold. Why? Because DS is proven platform for third-party developers. And Wii is not.
And Sid Meiere is not sure in Civ Rev success
