PGR4 earns perfect 10/10 score from OXM UK and scores higher then Halo 3

The newest edition of the British Official Xbox Magazine has just hit stores and already some review scores have made their way to the internet. Two big games from Microsoft for this holiday season have been reviewed, Halo 3, which came out yesterday and Project Gotham Racing 4 which will hit retail in about two weeks.

Though you would think Halo 3 would steal the show easily, PGR4 has earned a perfect 10/10 review from OXM UK. No specific ups and downs have been revealed yet but the game has managed to score a perfect 10/10 score. This compared to Halo 3, which has 'just' received a 9/10 score.

Although it is obvious that the hype and sales for Halo 3 will probably be way bigger then Project Gotham Racing 4, this is still a remarkable achievement.

there is more than graphic that make good gam.plus GT5 environment look like it is done is PS2.the in-car view look only as good as PGR4 and that was not even in-game, that was replay which always look better than in-game.

I already did my personal research. If you remember a while back when I was kind of neutral and said I was going to buy a PS3. I got lots of bubbles and praise by even Sony fanboys.
Trick for having bubbles - Keep comments neutral. Never comment negatively about any console of hardware maker even when they are wrong. Focus only on the good things about each console and ignore the bad things. If possible don't comment on negative articles. If you comment on a negative article (i.e. Lair review) people's opinion will be devided resulting on people using the bubble system as a way to say they don't agree with you.

Actually the problem is people not understanding what a 10 is. It doesn't mean that a game is perfect. There's no such thing as a perfect game. What it means is that the game is absolutely fantastic, and an absolute must buy.

It's a score / rating at it's highest possible percentage.
These 10's and 100's are being thrown around far too often but they are usually from mags and sites that don't have a whole lot of credibility. You don't see 100's or 10's from IGN, Gamespot or Game Informer but once in a blue moon.

I also wish reviewers would start to be a little more critical of how they score. Or atleast publish out somewhere on the sites/mags what exactly their 7's, 10's, etc. mean. I mean they may score it a 10 but from from what I can see 10's these days doesnt mean perfect...just means a great must buy game. Thats good to know. I guess as I reflect on my statement I think I would rather see a standard scoring system be adopted by all reviewers. So no more of this some do a 5 point system and others do a 10 point system. Keep it all 5 or 10 but make it uniform. Because 4 out of 5 for a site might be the equal to a 9 out of 10 on another site but in the "ranking" metacritic sites ...that 4 out of 5 brings the overall score down as it becomes an 8 out of 10.

Oh well.... IGN for me seems to be the most reliable when it comes to scoring anyway...so I will stick with them.

I think the "10" should be put in the proper context, as well as taken with a grain of salt (after all, this is OXM). In its place of being in the 'racing game' genre, it isn't such a stretch to see PGR4 get a "must own/10" rating. They're just saying that it is an exceptional RACING game... Comparing PGR to HALO to ZELDA is like comparing apples to oranges and bananas---- makes no sense. But in its proper perspective, PGR has been among the elite racing games critically (as well as in terms of millions of fans and sales as well) for a long time now. So the rating is no shock, just a pleasant surprise for 360 owners, who have yet another AAA title to look forward to this year. And with Microsoft somehow allowing Activision to acquire PGR creator Bizarre Creations, Wii and PS3 owners may have some PGR to look forward to as well....

The only game that was released in parallel in PC was Bioshock. While Halo 3 and Gears will eventually be on PC, they will have been a full Xbox 360 exclusive for a long time by then.

Shall I say, this is a really forced way to twist things considering that the fact remains on that right now, you can play 5 Triple A games that you will never find in the PS3 (Bioshock are only rumors for now) whereas in the other way, there's no Triple A game on the PS3 that can't be played on the 360.

Yes, the 360 is CRUSHING the ps3 in the gaming department. Disagree all you want sony boys but those are the facts. And using the whole "it will be on the pc" excuse is lame. You need a high end PC to run these games at the same level as the 360. Atleast a Core 2 Duo and that is definitely the minority in the PC world. Most users still use Pentium 4 and for most users that is all you need for you basic PC usage.

while I see your point, the fact still remains that 3 out of 5 WILL be available on pc and will probably be better on pc too. Yes, at this exact moment in time only bioshock is available, but if you have a gaming pc, why bother purchasing gears on 360 when the pc version will be better.

I also think that anyone who has played warhawk or heavenly sword will agree that they are aaa games. The reason these games got marked down on scores were the same reasons that some games with the same faults didnt on 360. eg: dirt ps3 looks better and better framerate but lower score. I will totally concede that lair and madden were poor though and deserve the lower scores.

I fail to see your insistence in pointing out whereas a game will land on PC or not. It doesn't seem to be a problem with Haze and UT3 so it shouldn't be either for the Xbox 360 games either, or else, it would rule out 2 games from the already thin Triple A candidates for the PS3 list in this year.

There are also many factors to weight in about PC ports that involve money spending, the factor that is keeping the PS3 from selling well (apart from software) A videocard alone to make your PC run Bioshock slightly better than the Xbox 360 version would cost you as much as the console. There are also many other subjective things like comfortability. It’s proven that most people prefer playing the Xbox 360 version than the PC version for the simple reason that the first one was made to be a gamming machine, and the other relies on an uncomfortable keyboard + mouse setup to be played (let alone the fact that most 360s are aligned with the Home theater setup and most PCs aren’t) hence the 80% – 20% of the sales going to the Xbox 360 and PC respectively.

Availability is also key. It’s just not as “good” to have a game just in time when it’s released than having it when the sequel is about to be released. That’s the reason behind Halo 2 PC poor sales, apart from it being outperformed by newer games.

Said this, I hardly see any weight in your arguments against the Xbox 360 exclusives mentioned. All in all, I’d chose to have a handful of Triple A games, from which some are sometime be released on PC, than a bunch of Good to mediocre completely exclusive games, with no Triple A offerings on the horizon.

I would feel more cheated if I had purchased a console with a massive design flaw resulting in a 33% fail rate. I would feel more cheated if I had purchased a console that scratches my games. I would feel more cheated if I had purchased a console that charges me to play multiplayer. I would feel more cheated if I had purchased a console that "didnt need hdmi" and then a new version WITH hdmi was released. I would feel cheated if i had a PS3 because:

- The PS3 costs the most but provides the least usability.

- The PS3 was overhyped and didnt live up to it

- The PS3 is a blue ray trojan horse ( i would maybe buy a cheaper PS3 w/o BR)

- The reason for owning a games console is to play games. But where are the AAA PS3 titles?

- Sony trashtalked the 360, calling it xbox 1.5 and saying the next
gen 'doesnt start til we say so' (remember?). well it has started now and 360 has ALL the AAA titles. What gives? Perhaps Sony shoulda been a bit more HUMBLE?

- Sony CHARGES EXTRA FOR HDMI CABLE (OMF WTF?) and MS does not....

- Xboxlive is a far far more stable platform for multiplayer. Wait and see...

- PS3 promised 100% backward compatibility....lol.. emotion engine? where is it?

Dude, i agree the (up to 33%) defect rate for the 360 is woeful.

But still, after considering ALL THE PROS AND CONS:

I appreciate what you're trying to point out but I disagree. I'll explain why I disagree because I think that's only right. It may be a long reply but please take the time to read as I have taken the time to reply in detail...

Really?
Can I watch HD movies on a 360 out of the box? No I can't.
Can I use bluetooth devices on the 360 (Like standard bluetooth headsets)? No I can't, they have to be MS products.
Can I transfer the photos from my digital camera to the 360 via memory stick and then print them? No.
Can I use Mouse and keyboard with games on a 360? No I can't.
Do I have instant wireless functionality out of the box with a 360 for online gaming? No I don't.

I disagree, the PS3 was released undercover so to speak, there wasn't a massive furore around the release over here in the UK, so it wasn't overhyped, heck I don't even think it was hyped lol. Sony haven't been on the ball with ads over here, the only one I've seen is the ad for Heavenly Sword...

PS3 w/o Blu-ray, what's the point in that? Why remove a next gen format from a next gen system? That's a sign of not thinking ahead I think. Sort of like how MS stuck to DVD rather than taking a risk and pushing forward with new technology.

Resistance, Motorstorm, Warhawk (even if it's just a PS3 owner cult hit, it still deserves to be considered AAA, it's an ace MP game! 9.2/10 imho). 3 top games released within the first year for the PS3. Over here in europe we've only had to wait a few months for Warhawk and had the other two at launch!

The 360 has been out for two years and that's the time the best titles start appearing. The 360 didn't have many (if any) AAA titles after 10 months, Gears of War was the only AAA game the 360 had and that came after a year. The 360 AAA titles will appear this year, then the PS3 AAA titles will appear next year with some in 2009 also (Has the 360 got any AAA for 2008?). All it takes is a bit of common sense to work out that very straightforward pattern...

No but MS charges for the HD-DVD player in order to play a HD format in the first place and it's more expensive than a cable. The PS3 comes packaged with a HDMI cable over here in the UK with certain online store purchases.

I have waited to see and all I've seen from the funded online service is a great library of downloadable content (Demos, videos, Betas, etc). The online service is not more stable as there aren't any dedicated servers like there are for the PS3. It's P2P for Live and that's not more stable, it's not bad, it's just not better than having dedicated servers.

They promised that they'd constantly add to the BC list and they are. They never promised 100%, they said they would work towards 100%. They've even provided a BC site that details the games that work and those that don't in order to help the owners with the BC issues.

PS3 offers more and has more potential. If I'm going to spend a lot of money for a console I want something with potential (with proof from a good future lineup), something that'll stand the test of time and something that's value for money. PS3 ticks all 3. I'd hesitate to tick any of those for the 360.

agreed, maybe I came across sounding angry! lol! But yea look I see ur points BUT ps3 is less than 1 year old and it is very poor to be comparing the game libraries so soon. (yes I know the ps3 boys are just as bad as the 360 boys), but the 360 has been out nearly two years. People are so quick to bash ps3 it is unreal. Maybe it IS brought about by arrogance but, if you had destroyed all competitors twice in a row dont you think you would be confident. I brought a ps3 launch day in the uk March 07 and havent ever regretted it. I own pretty much every console released over the last 20 years except for the 360 and that is ONLY due to reliability. Some of the games are great but only 5 aaa titles in 2 years? I still will acknowledge that statisically, it is 5 more than ps3 (lol!!), but how many did 360 have nine/ten months in? 0! ps3 is doing good for the first 9/10 months. Back on topic, i would prefer pgr4 to halo3 too.

You sony boys are full of denial and excuses. Fact is the PGR franchise has always been high in ratings and sales. There is nothing on the ps3 that can compete with the arcade fun of PGR. Don't try to compare GT with this game since they are 2 different games. The 360 has the best of both worlds. Forza (Sim) and PGR (Arcade) The 360 is definitely the system for racer lovers!

The only thing available during the 1st year on the 360 that was worth a console purchase was Gears. The AAA titles for the 360 are coming just before it's second birthday... talk about a wait.

You can't honestly expect AAA PS3 games after the first few months! That's just utterly insane. The newly released 360 games have been in development since before the PS3 was even released, what do you expect from the PS3? lol You want a miracle game cannon that fires AAA titles from the PS3 after only being available for about 10 months.

Somehow I get the feeling you're not thinking about the bigger picture. Games take time, patience is something you should consider getting to grips with...

Nope! Your all wrong. The 360 had one of the best gaming launches in gaming history. Call of Duty 2 averaged 90 and up on Day 1, PGR3, Oblivion, Dead or Alive 4, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Dead Rising, Graw, etc..

The 360 was a MONSTER on day one, the ps3 is still a baby.

Gears of War was just one of those rare games that come out and absolutely blow everybody's mind.

Of course the ps3 will eventually get some AAA titles, my guess is Uncharted, but the fact is that the 360 was releasing GREAT games on Day 1 while the ps3 has only a handful of good games. The 360 will ALWAYS destroy the ps3 in the gaming department....oh yes, the beauty of coming out an year early. :)

The only time a game should score 10/10 is when you can find absolutely nothing to criticize. If something has faults, its not perfect. To have criticisms followed by a perfect score makes absolutely no sense. So if when the full review is published, it contains criticisms, a 10/10 score loses all credibility. 9/10, 9.5/10, 9.8/10 is totally acceptable but 10/10, c'mon. I have yet to see a perfect game.

Sony knows how good PGR4 is and they want to have something exclusive to counter it with. Selling a DEMO of GT will at least hold the Sony fanboys over until GT5 comes out (July of 2008). They can look at screen shots and say "see GT is better than Forza and PGR"! Big deal; I'd rather be playing a great game than jacking off over a demo.

By the time the full GT5 comes out I'll have been playing Forza 2 for over a year and PGR4 for 9+ months. Two birds in hand versus one in the bush!

Forza 3 will probably be right on the heels of GT5 by the time it sees the light of day!

I've read a few comments, and I understand how some of you feel about certain games getting certain scores because of a brother company,but lets be real. If PSM scored MGS4 With perfect scores we would believe it right? Well, I'm here to tell you this bias thinking has to stop. Xbox, Sony, and Nintendo fans a like. Two, just because a game doesn't have superior graphics, sound, and blah doesn't make it less of a game. Lets take Lair, Superior everything, but something is lacking in it for so many mixed reviews. Its so crazy that,when a great game comes out and fans of the other system have no chance of getting it they compare it to another game they think will blow it out of the water. Well, lets play a game called role reverse, what if Halo 3 was for PS3 too, would it still be called Gaylo Sony Fans? If PGR4 was also for PS3 and a mag like psm gave it a perfect score would PSM still be the main factor of the game being so good? Bottom line, just because a "superior" system has the best potential doesn't mean it will do better, look at the Xbox, neogeo where are they now? And, don't try to use that whole if it was on ps3 the graphics would be ten times better crap either

It is, as of now, THE best console to have. Sales reflect this.
Infernus, you make some valid points, but i think you are not seeing the big picture.

1. HD format
360 gives you what you want at a cheaper price.
If you want HD format - you have that choice. THe operative word here is 'choice'.
Can I buy a 360 with or without HD media? YES
Can I buy a PS3 with or without HD media? NO
Choice you see?

2. PS3 Hype.
Dude, the PS3 had an astounding amount of hype!
E3 2005 the PS3 camp BLEW everyone away with promises of physics, 8 cell, RSX and blueray. Duck demo, explosive particle effects, killzone2.. etc.
At the time i thought.. WHOA.. i gots to get me one of those with all that hype, how can it go wrong? Ken 'promises' Kutaragi made outrageous claims of how the PS3 would absolutely trounce the 360 from the get go.
Again, did they deliver?
Again, I think they overhyped and underdelivered.

3.AAA titles.
I am going to quote first knight, because he says it well:

4. Online.
Xboxlive is controlled for stability by MS. Thats why it cost money.
The central management of protocols and procedures that all designers must meet results in better stability and efficiency. That is why it is better than the 'ad hoc' PSN method.

5. 100% backward compatibility
Dude. SONY PROMISED 100% backward compatibility. That is a fact.
Ken Kutaragi even trashed the 360 because MS chose software emulation, which did not yield 100%. And now PS3 is doing the same? Shame shame!
What's even worse is that you, as PS3 owner, have FORGOTTEN this.. lol

6. HDMI.
Once again, 360 gives you a choice. IF you dont need it, get a premium 360. If you do need it, get an elite360, with which you also get the cable.
PS3 says, we dont care what you need. You get everything and you WILL pay for it. *except the HDMI cable*, which does NOT get included by default. Kinda sneaky don't you think?

7. Potential
errrr. Get this. PS3 has hyped its potential since E3 2005.
Blueray, killzone2, cell, RSX, yadda, yadda ..lol
The PS3 was initially scheduled to appear at the same time as 360, but got delayed due to blueray. If the PS3 has potential, i am waiting with bated breath.
oh. wait......
i mean, i have been waiting for this potential for a long, long time. Let's give it two more years, in time for the hardware technology to have superseded itself twice over again.

Finally, I think the PS3 is a fantastically engineered product.
If the 360 wasnt' trouncing it as a consumer product, all things considered, I might get one possibly at half the price in 5 years time.

back on topic: i think i would prefer Halo3 to pgr4.
But that's just me.. what do scores mean anyway if they average in the 9/10? It's all good.
