PS3/360 NBA Live 08 - Better Crowd and Anti-aliasing on X360 version, PS3 Version is Washed Out

A polish site has put together a comparison of NBA Live 08 Demo which was recently released on Xbox live and PSN network to gamers. According the comparisons, there is better crowed movements and anti-aliasing in the Xbox 360 version than PS3. The current PS3 version looks washed out. The game was just a demo and that, they are hoping EA will work on this before it's final release.

But Those Games Dont Run 60fps,The same thing was Done with DIRT for the PS3, they had to remove objects such as Trees and Lakes from the game that are still in the 360 version to get it to run 30fps on the PS3.

Developers didn't have such a hard time making Xbox 1 games run smoother than PS2 games. The reason is that Xbox 1 was more powerful than PS2, and it showed in the games.

Now, games run smoother on 360. This means that the 360 is more powerful. If you know a way to make PS3 games better, talk to the developers, because they don't know.

lol. But for the rest of us that are fans of EA's sports games this is pretty frustrating. I've had a boycott in effect on EA sports since Madden 08 was so bad and I'm going to keep it going until EA gets their act together and makes a PS3 versions that's at least as good as the 360 version.

The issues is not that the PS3 is not a capable piece of hardware, it's just that when it comes to multi-platform stuff, it's lagging behind. It seems like no one wants to invest the extra money to make the PS3 versions up to standards which, maybe due to it's lower install base. I'm not sure -- anyone have any ideas?
I just know that if I buy an EA sports game, I'll purchase the 360 version.

Basketball on NBA live 2008 sucks. you cant even fake the shot. I gave up on nba live with the 2001 version. It felt like they were on roller skates. 2K8 is where i spend my money.

sadly no, i just played NBA '08 demo for the ps3 and it looks just like the picture... the AA isnt the problem for me, it is the laziness in the crowd... now that i see it, it bugs the hell out of me and i can spot all the imperfections from afar.....

I remember back in the day how they talked about Sega Saturn having more power than the Playstation due to it's two 32-Bit Processors. However developers complained about the complexity of programming for it. If you look at whats going on now between Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, it's no different. History always repeats itself.

I played the PS3 demo no way the crowd look THAT bad, I don't doubt the Xbox 360 version is better, but then again we are talking about EA here guys. If you only have PS3 go get NBA 08 made by Sony instead. Oh @ Darth I wish they would only release these games every 2 years at least for each developer(Like EA do one one year then Sony then 2K) and then they offer 2 years of content, and have a more refined game. As you can see most real quality games take more than a year to produce. (IE Bioshock, GT5(so far as I can tell), Killzone 2, Halo 3[which personally I don't like but it looks to be a good-great game nonetheless] or MP3 )

But now, Sony's NBA 08 runs 1080p@60fps (smooth and incl. motion controller) and then the EA crap again. What the heck. What are these guys doing ?
It starts with the opening scene (the loading screen). There is nothing. Just the empty hoop. And even that studders on the zoom out. What the heck. There's nothing going on at that time in the game. Can hardly be the HW. (720p BTW).

ms is obviously paying some extra money for the better games. with what the ps3 has, there's no way 360 can really be any better. 360 has been out for a good 2 yrs now while ps3 hasnt even been out for a year. kits are getting better for ps3 too. at least 2k is still legit. I played the demo on the PS3,, the pictures posted here are ugly photoshoped edited. The game looks and feels great. I liked the animation too, very smooth and natural.

I have both versions of the NBA Live 08 demo and yes, the PS3 crowds look like total crap but the jaggies are not nearly as bad as they look in those screenshots.

beating the dead horse... everyone knows EA is deliberately putting little effort into the PS3 games, that is if they aren't already shytty ports, because of a less than stellar install base. Its a fact. When the ps3 has more people to buy their games they'll spend a few more dollars to make the games look good and run at 60 frames andall that... GT 5 will run at 60 frames at 1080p, Sigma did that and had self shading.. it's all dependant upon the dev, nothing is testing ps3 hardware right now.. Lair is probably the most technically impressive game out, with all the 1000s of baddies on screen, procedurally generated waves and 1080p. the only game where i've seen textures (in a bad way) on the ps3, if it means anything.. gears and vegas and forza pop and tear 24/7.. i know because i own 'em. Lair and Warhawk are technical gems.. save for the controls in lair.. ohh and Resistance managed to run at a consistent 30 with 40 player multiplyer online, nufff seeeeed

Some code better ways than others for that console. Developers with great GFX in the PS2/xbox days will have them in the 360/PS3 days. If M$ made their console to suit 90% of cross-platform developers then fine. When you compare a racing game to a basketball game then you are comparing apples to oranges. How much AI could a racing game have? Racing games and shooters have always looked better than other games. Look at the best looking games of any platform for the last 10 years and you will not find a sports title.

for it's money. I liked the live demo. I hope 2k steps it up. NBA 2k7 was good but not that great. NBA live 07 was trash. Glad to see 2K pushing EA. The live 08 demo controller very good. Can't wait to hear more about it. BTW, I have been playing NBA 2k since the DC. I have never missed a copy in 5 years. I have not purchased live since I had it on Sega Genesis. It has been bad. I think live 08 may be a winner.

I own a PS3 and admit freely that what happened to Bioshock was just crap. Now EA yet again proving that they don't give a damn.

If they did they would make the game bi-annual and charge $15 for an update to teams / new players / rule changes. With most consoles sold (that they have developed for this year) coming with a Hard Drive, it could be possible.

But instead we are stuck with yet another update, at full price.

Sorry, nothing against Peter, I happen to like the guy, but this years quality of sports titles in no way reflects to capabilities of the machine. All it tells me is EA started late, didn't do there homework up front and need to pull their fingers out. I don't care why a PS3 game is better or a Xbox game is better. If the game for my system sucks then I will not buy it. Play the demo, and if you like it then get it. Why should you care if the other version is better. The only way you can make sure you get the best of all games is the get all systems and a high end PC. That is the only way. If your game gets a .5 lower rating who gives a sh8t. 90% of the games I play are not exclusive. If I get a game for the 360 and I like it I don't care about the other version that I can't play.

Exactly, you got it perfectly SJL. Live has never been a good game for the past how many years. Compare the 360 games now to the 360 games that were out when the 360 was only as old as the ps3 is now. They probably look like crap compared to 360 games now. EA is the only one that can't seem to figure out how to program for the ps3. Either they are going out of their way to push out low quality games for the ps3, or their programmers really do need new careers.

This game has all the trimmings to be one of the great ones. Just like Funkytown i play 2k from the DC days and i skipped live until 03,04,05,06 but they stepped up their game big time ofor this. i only play those version on xbox OG with 06 being the best hence the IGN rating of 9.4.

I could write down a whole list of stuff for this years game that shows it has potential but i'll degress. Plain and simple this live is going to be good and so will 2k.

Well, the nice thing about NBA games is that PS3 owners have two alternatives. NBA 2k8 or NBA 08. Personally i think the 3rd party games programmers use engine and don't optimize code for PS3. This kind of engine is optimized for PC. And 360 use same kind of code. But with Cell it's different. In future the new engine probably have a special code for Cell optimization like Unreal engine 3. And when 3rd party games programmers begin to uses this new engines, the games look similar on both platform.

Face it, EA is developing their games for the 360 first, and then porting them over towards the PS3. This is why the PS3 version of all of EA's sports games are inferior. Maybe when PS3 overtakes the 360 in sales, the games will start to get developed on Sony's system first, and then ported over to the 360. Either way it is a "cheap" way to develop for systems that are completely different, but it is lazy. EA why not pony up some money, and develop for the PS3 versions earlier. Until then I am going to stop purchasing any EA game. No Madden this year for me.

Not only the PS3 version diseases, but the EA's game have many "glitches"... The players are nothing but disproportional, they have no knowledge of what "infiltration" means, the overall AI of your friends is dumb and you can shoot and make the 3 points from anywhere (this one remember me why I hate EA Sports: FIFA has the same problem).
