Crysis 2: Huge Killzone 2 Comparison Shots

Videogameszone published some impressive comparison screenshots of Crysis 2 and Killzone 2. In the first comparison shot is one brand new in-game screenshot of Cryteks upcoming Shooter.

pc version of C2 wouldn't be blatantly full of jaggies like the kz2 shot.

It's definitely on one of the consoles. They also say the consoles are nearly identical to each other. It's safe to say the jaggies will be present on both systems.

Not enough. I play my consoles on gaming monitors where as you know they show their full potential at their native resolution. When you start having to upscale on monitors you can see every flaw.. jaggie,low-res texture,blurriness to the max. HDTV's tend to be more forgiving.

KZ2 is plagued with these problems. Here's a comparison I did with my camera between 360 and pc versions of MW2 to see what I mean

Your hatred is making you to mix the shoots up. Crysis 2 screens are the one with jaggies. You can call KZ2 blurred but game got a decent quincux applied and it's fairly jaggy-less.

Crysis 2 on console is a huge step back from Crysis 1 on PC.

And yea BC2 on PC looks better then both of those shots.

To those waiting on Killzone 3 or Uncharted 3, i dont expect the differences to be huge. K2 and Uncharted 2 already made very good use of the PS3 hardware. Let the games come out but i dont expect much more then this.

I also don't hate any particular console. I dislike the clueless 360 gamers because they fueled the DLC trend we see today. I dislike the ps3 fanboy because there is no reasoning with them. Those screenshots of MW2 and Crysis were at 1080p which is my native res on this monitor. Ya KZ2 obviously doesn't look as horrible as MW2 does because it's 720p (pc monitors seriously are not forgiving if you don't use native res) but the jaggies are "noticeable". They don't stick out like a sore thumb but they are kinda disappointing.

I think UC2 and K2 pushed the PS3 very well and had the PS3 more powerleft they would have surely bumped the ress upto 1080p which didnt happen.

Its not hard upressing a game if the system has more resources left over and i am sure sony would have wanted that as a marketing point if 1080p could have been acheived.

I'm sure as hell GoW3 is extremely sharp, and behaves like a fractal, ie sharp when the scale is titanic and sharp when up close.

I am tired of you goons who know sh!t about the development of the game. GOW3 has a fixed camera YES, but it wasn't a technical limitation, it was a DESIGN CHOICE. In fact in GOW3 there are places where you can control the camera and you can see around.

Just see the developers diary and in that look into where they discuss the camera... They clearly mention that the level guys actually give them fully loaded levels and then they create many camera modes of different angles and select the best out of it... You see, if the guys gave full control of the camera, the game would work, but they wanted to create a cinematic game and that is better achieved if the camera is locked and you see what the developer wants you to see.

GOW3 technically pushes the PS3 further than UC2 or KZ2 mainly cause it runs at 60FPS and looks better than UC2 at many parts... Stop downplaying something and give credit where it's due.

I'm not sure what they are comparing considering they don't have many in-game shots of Crysis 2 or even a video of Crysis 2 in action on the consoles.

Even if we did don't you think that the question of gameplay should take a front seat to the question of graphics regardless of comparison? If Crysis 2 is played anything like the first one then the game will be doomed to store shelves and only bought by the PC crowd to say the have the "superior version", although I'm not quite sure what PC enthusiasts are on about with that argument.

Instead of constant reports and comparisons about graphics I would love to hear if they fixed the A.I, the balance in gameplay, or have a more interesting story.

Why does people even waste time doing this. The PC version of crysis 2 " on the proper system" would crush anything a console could do, heck the first crysis would. And people and there GOW3 bandwagon of how graphically it is the best. And actually i am not that impressed by the fixed camera angle soft graphics and the constant changing of resolutions and frame drops of GOW3. I think clearly UC2 is on another level than what GOW3 is on. IMO there is nothing on consoles that touch UC2 as far as full package of what the engine is capable of.

Currently, the minimum PC requirements for Crysis 2 MIGHT be an 8800GTS...

While this is no indication as to which will actually look better, Crysis 2 vs Killzone 2. Crysis 2 will be using lower system requirements than Crysis 1, yet somehow will have better graphics overall. IMO, this means CryEngine3 will rely on multi-core CPUs for a more detailed environment.

BTW, PS3's RSX is said to be similar to a 7800GTX on 90nm.

Actually I kind of disagree. My KZ2 wasn't blurry, looked flawless and the art style was fantastic.
Crysis looked incredible on very high end machines at the time, but was short and boring as hell. I mean come on. 4 hours? Weapon customisation was good idea but nonetheless game didn't offer much above microsandbox when you could only screw around the "world" breaking stuff.

@chak_: Filters and other tricks are clever way to make the game look more appealing with less resources. Crysis reigns photorealistic gameplay but that's not entertainment for everyone. Consoles, well, need/must/want to use tricks.

Look at Alan Wake, Gears, GT4, Mass Effect or even KZ2. It wouldn't look that good without post-processing, darker image, grain filters or certain other modelling tricks like throwing off typical human body for the sake of artificial suits.
Crysis2 will reign graphically on PC, just like original was, but as usual, It's pretty much always unfair to compare two different games.

@beavis: I don't really have much knowledge about Crysis 2, or even the original since I never had the rig to play it. But I am getting very tired with the constant Crysis 2 article spamming. Case in point, Now Gamer took an interview with the lead writer of Crysis 2 and made every single "juicy" statement of his into a separate story. I guess they exploited a loop-hole in N4G that allowed them to get attention for both, but it was still a very low thing to do. Not to mention their headlines for said stories, adjusted for maximum flammage.

As far as these comparisons go, I'm not of the opinion that it's possible to compare art styles, resolutions, frame-rates, particle effcts, textures, etc. of any two games. Maybe the animation, but that's not possible when using pictures.

This sequel still isn't very relevant for me. However, we could do without some game journalism sites using the one thing the original was most famed for - visuals - and some things it wasn't - story - to incite fans of other games like Killzone 2 with their Crysis 2 stories.

Everybody on all fronts (including pc) wants their platform of choice to be the one to dethrone Crysis. killzone 2 is such a powerhouse of a game that it gets compared to games every other day. people in the pass would compare other games to crysis 1 but ever since killzone 2 the tide has changed. killzone 2 is not only about graphics but about all the technological advances of everything to make one amazing product. the ragdoll physics in killzone 2 are second to none, the animation in the game are amazing , the ai is top notch amoung other things. killzone 2 isnt talked about because its mediocre or close to it, it's talked about because it's amazing. crysis 2 will look very good on pc but its tech in other things may not be up to killzone 2 standards.

killzone is bigger than any other game when it comes to quality assurance and game technology so i cant imagine what's going to happen when killzone 3 is shown at E3 this year. N4G mods better get ready because a lot of people and fanboyX will be crying this june. If I had started off playing FPS on a console then I think my viewpoint on this would be COMPLETELY different. However, I played KZ2 and thought it was just a loud, full of foul language, graphically impressive game. For me there was NO substance. This is coming from a diehard PS3 owner.

I do not have too many memories of KZ2 like I would have of the first Medal of Honor (beach scene), Far Cry, Call of Duty 1, AvsP, Crysis 1, etc.

With that said, I will be getting Crysis2 on PC. Not because of the graphics, but for me the experience is MUCH better and worth my hard earned money! People can have the graphical debate all the want, but I can honestly say that for the last 5-7 years that I have been gaming on PC, there are only a select few games on consoles that give me the same type feeling.

Crysis is a piece of sh*t (is decent),.. Warhead was a bit better,.. Running it on ultra high, with 4 AA.. the game doesn't look that great,.. something is just of in crysis visually,.. running it trough hdmi full hd to my 42 inch tv,. In my opinion KZ2 holds up remarkably well against UC2 and GOW3. If you take into account what is going on at the screen, all at the same time, I think that the visuals are amazingly consistent and beautiful. And everything is moving; the skies for instance are always in motion with clouds raging, often split by lightning and spaceships. It's really something to see. Other games. such as UC2 and GOW3, the greatest among games, do not give me that feeling of immersion as KZ2 does. But of course this my very personal opinion.

Uncharted 2 runs at 1280x720 with 2xAA, Killzone 2 runs at 1280x720 with 2x QAA, and God of War 3 runs at 1280x720 with MLAA. These resolutions are pulled from Beyond3D, not the input resolution the TV is receiving. The reason Killzone 2 often appears blurrier than these other games is that Quincunx is notorious for blurring the entire frame as a way to achieve a 4x AA equivalent with the performance of 2xAA. Nvidia discontinued support for it when Geforce 8 released.

From what I know about KZ2 and have seen in the pictures of C2. there is somthing of KZ2 that holds me over C2. I cant say exactly what it is, but I have to play C2 to figure it out. I think it has soemthing to do with the environment. Maybe the small movements that just make things more realistic rather than just be still and unmovable. Environment is important in grabing attentions, and no its not soley based on looks, but moevements and interactions as well. The more burning fire and swaying (realistically) trees you got the better your game will be.
