Why Isn't Sony Bringing E3 07 Coverage to PS3 like Microsoft?

In a move that may baffle many, Sony has yet to announce any plans for the PS3 for E3 compared to what Microsoft has for the Xbox 360 to bring E3 home.

So now the question comes up, with Microsoft getting ready to do it all over again for the second year in a row, where is the Sony announcement of E3 content?

With the PlayStation Network and the PlayStation Store yet to really pick up a lot of steam this could be a great opportunity for Sony to show that they have what it takes to have an always-evolving and updating network which can compete and beat the Xbox 360.

With E3 being a trade event early, and with this year being tighter ans smaller than ever, the only way to gain access to a consoles demo's and HD trailers is over Live! or the PS3 network.

MS did extremly well last year with this feature with demo's of Lost Planet and Test Drive, and trailers of Lost Oddysee, Banjo, Assassin's Creed etc.

If it is indeed true, and Sony have not got anything in place like MS have, they need to sort something out now, because at the end of the day it's public that will be buying there games, not the press who attend E3, and a demo or trailer of a game can potential sell more copies when it gets released due just to that that trailer or demo.

i believe this has been commented on before, but Sony has no control over demos from third parties. either the third party turns one over as a means to help sell their product or they don't. In the short run it sounds like many third party games are created first for the 360 and then ported over which means it is much more likely that from the beginning they would be building demos for the native piece of hardware... Of course Sony controls it's own first party titles and demos from RFOM and Motorstorm, ridgracer etc... show that they are willing to put them out there... (MLB07 is a noted exception but considering it's simply a port of a ps2 game I wouldn't have used it as a demo either)---

Schweet! I have that same HDTV. I have the 58" and it is gorgeous. I purchased a different stand though. The store that I bought the TV from didn't have the original stand in stock. I love that it has two HDMI inputs. One for my cable box and the other to switch off between my PS3 and my 360.

But I suspect everyone who really cares about E3 will be watching live streams and trailers on the internet anyway. Most likely PSN will get a lot of Trailers/Demos during E3 (it got a trailer from Ubidays 07), but you never know Sony they always seem to shoot themselves in the foot.

Who's to say the PSN won't have downloadable videos of E3 or demos? It will be the first real E3 for PS3, so obviously were not assuming based off some precedent. I'm not going to make any assumptions either way, because I don't think it's really necessary for Sony or even Microsoft to announce ahead of time that you'll be able to download their conference off their online service.

It's great that Microsoft has announced it, but I don't find that it's so incredibly newsworthy that anyone announce it over a week in advance. In addition, the title to this article is so incredibly presumptuous. We'll know when E3 has hit whether or not they will or not. But Sony has made no denials to the possibility.

Lets just say some devs depend on E3-BIH and develope demo's for E3; BIG name developers with a time slot at E3 with a big pressence and smaller dev companies that may not even get a spot or only mentioned in the show now have a chance to show the titles etc to further market their titles. This is alot bigger than most realize because its "bringing it Home" and devs can only pat MS on the back forcing their fat wallets in their pockets at the same time.

Nintendo can't do it because they haven't got a running network like Live! or PS3 network yet to actually gain access to trailer or demo's. Plus, the Wii doesn't have a Hard Drive, making it very difficult to download a lot of media without paying out for a large SD Card.

Sony however doesn't have an excuse. They have the PS3 Network working fine, and they have a built in hard-drive with the smallest being 20gb for all the content to be downloaded to.

Even with the PS3 Network being free, they should be able to at least upload there own in-house game demos and trailers (like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Killzone etc), without spending any cash.

I'm also sure that third-party developers would jump at the chance for some free advertising for there games by getting them out to a large audience and into homes.

Trailers and news is fine on the net, but you can't actually gain access to the demo's. This is something that MS had success with last year, and Sony should have already jumped on the bandwagon.

I'm looking forward to the Bioshock demo that WILL arrive on Xbox Live!, but I'm also hoping that a demo of Heavenly Sword or Killzone arrives on the PS3, so I can try those out on my friends PS3 to see if it is worth purchasing a PS3 or not later in the year when these games arrive.

I know Sony is not publicly puttin together an "E3" deal on the PSN as of yet...but I am sure PS3 owners will see new videos as E3 unfolds. Sony has so many issues to tackle not only with the PS3 right now but with the online that putting together a special E3 section is probably not exactly high on their "to do" list.

I cetainly love that MS does it...and was excited to see they are putting the actual MS conference on the site along with all special E3 videos and interviews.

I'm not saying it's a big deal...I just think something so simple as uploading HD videos and Demos for your consumers is a necessity. If Sony wants to copy Live, they should do this because it's their content it shouldn't be difficult to add that content as a thank you for buying their console. Plus it's a marketing tactic, not everyone will go on the internet, but if someone sees a new HD video out for a game they know nothing about it might entice them to check it out which is an additional sale. So by no means a "big deal" I just don't see why something so simple as this their not doing...

My first 360 broke and I bought another one from Wal-mart and switched the insides and returned it and I will keep doing so until I get one that wants to continue to start working. Sony has the PSN and the current game drought to contend with, while MS has their lack luster customer relations and hardware trouble.
The fact is each company has their own issues to iron out, this is really a non-story, if you can log onto live or PSN, you can go to gametrailers.com or any other gaming site and download your own E3 coverage. Nice move by MS but by no means a death sentence for Sony.

i'd *LOVE to see Sony do something like this, and i wouldn't be surprised if they did.

they have plenty of games to show off, and most of them are in demo form (like Uncharted, Lair, Heavenly Sword), and how hard is it to upload some videos over the course of the three or four days giving us the highlights.

for example, on the 10th, Sony could upload their Killzone PS3 presentation (barring any exclusive coverage deals with a game site or magazine), as well as a video trailer of sorts.

i'd love to see a MGS4 demo on PSN soon (like i've said before, Hideo Kojima has had a Metal Gear Solid demo for every title thus far, and it's usually released a few months before launch of the title). if there's a new trailer at E3, i'd love to see it.

this is a brilliant idea by Microsoft, and i think that all three companies should implement it in some way. afterall, we are the people that ultimately buy the games, and instead of relying on potentially biased, or incomplete coverage from the press, we can rely on our own judgement.

the time of the media having such incredible control over consumer perception should be squashed. especially when it comes to gaming.

does need to get things done. But saying that MS knows what its doing without doubt is just plain irresponsible on a business standpoint. They too are taking some risk and may be reward for doing so...or maybe not? These companies are not "all knowing", for they take risk and explore new possible ways to inform the consumer market. If the company themselves doesn't take that risk, the company won't change, which is good and bad. For example, the company doesn't have to run the risk of failing, but it also means that their product won't be viewed as widely to the consumer market base. Well I got an Xbox 360 so I will be downloading alot of demos and trailers this weekend and next week. Sony should be getting this content, if they want PSN to beat out XBL, they should be getting this sort of stuff. It helps build the PSN store and community.

I download demos and trailers allthe time on PSN.Every week theres a new demo or trailer to add to the HDD.

The bottom line is you sony kids got exactly what you paid for a poo-ray player that can play inferior games because you don't need a advanced GPU to watch poo-ray movies. Sony isn't worried about buying exclusives or putting out great psn content and services poo-ray3 is struggling to be the trojan horse sony designed it to be because other than the loyal sheep consumers don't want poo-ray movies and gamers don't want a inferior gaming machine. Obvious reason would be that MS has already finished their streaming tv stuff for life, whereas Sony is still in development for PSN, after all MS had a one year head start and was more interested in online stuff in the beginning anyways.

But then ... youtube is your friend, and i will prolly check the online coverage via my PC and not my TV.

But Sony will surely stream such events (as long as they are involved) once their video streaming platform for PS3 is finished.

As xbox live subscribers we demand E3 over xbox marketplace. Period! Microsoft don't want to we cut their testicals! Period! We pay so we demand.... PS3 owners... you have no right to ask for anything from Sony and Sony being let you play 2-3 games online and let you download a few 1st party demos....

okay i know that it isnt really important to many people that psn network will not have E3 coverage online but at the same time it would've been a great way for Sony to prove that they could do what xbox live can without the 50 dollar fee at the end of the year. In my opinion i think that it was a smart move for Microsoft to provide exclusive coverage over live. You can always get information on new games from the internet but the coverage actually gives xbox 360 owners to play the game just like the people at the E3 event. Im not saying that sony will not change their mind on their decision to have coverage over psn but it would benefit them if they choose to.

In fact, I'm surprised this is even news. Did anyone ever know FFXIII or Killzone would be shown at their respective E3 Conferences? Nope. Sony keeps everything secret until the last minute, thus building up anticipation. Microsoft has yet to use this little tactic to their advantage.
