Wow. Insane boost for the PSP.

Noctis Aftermath5163d ago

What was the reason for the boost?

chrisnick5162d ago

one week, 1/3 of the 360s american lead gone. I don't know why people say japan doesn't matter and ms has the right idea keeping the 360 in there. If it gets some kind of a foothold and can compete there, then they could breathe easy.

jahcure5162d ago

wasn't it this week that the psp had a temp drop in price

Noctis Aftermath5162d ago

@above: the only price drop iam aware of is the one in america and was only a $20 price drop.

badz1495162d ago

what more surprising is the DS numbers! although all 3 models combined will total at around 43k, that's kinda low for DS in Japan! this can only means 1 of these 2 things;

1) they're tired having breakfast with the DS cereal; or
2) they're getting the memo that consoles is the way to go! (but still PSP number is kinda unnatural!)

BiggCMan5162d ago

so look at this, the ps2 roughly sells 1000 to 1500 per week in japan, thats just over 54000 per year, in japan only. So depending on worldwide sales for the ps2, it could possibly still be selling more than 100K units per year worldwide, which obviously is terrible for the current gen systems, but for ps2, that is damn good!!

randomwiz5162d ago

The ps2 is selling millions annually still, not hundreds of thousands.

NeoBasch5162d ago

Holy $hit! The original PSP just outsold all versions of the DS combined. That's some hot $hit right there. Good job, Sony!

Tony-A5162d ago

True that. The PS2 sold over 5 million last year!

rockleex5162d ago

God Eater is catching on like wildfire and Monster Hunter better prepare for a fight? :P

buh buh do you live in Japan? Why do you care? Have you ever been to Japan? I was stationed there for 6 months. Japanese people love Sony products and there are tons more Japanese games on PS3 than 360.

Tony-A5162d ago

Same reason you would care about sales in the country you live in.

Curiosity.

It's the same reason you care about sales in the first place.

plb5162d ago

^^ I don't care about numbers at all actually..it's just amusing reading all the posts in here.

cayal5162d ago

"buh buh buh 60K difference"

This is why Japan matters. No matter how much the fanboys love the NPD, everything counts.
PS3 outsells 360 by minimum 20k a week in Japan. That's 80k a month (1.2million a year). That already puts the PS3 ahead in February and that doesn't include Europe.

Ilikegames765162d ago

why this zone is called the "Open Zone". Kinda funny to hear you complaining in this zone. Gamer zone gets kinda boring, now this zone is where the actions/stupidities/humors are.

dustgavin5162d ago

"buh buh do you live in Japan? Why do you care? Have you ever been to Japan? I was stationed there for 6 months"

Sounds like plb was one of the few people that bought a 360 in Japan. Talk about sour grapes!

Agreed, PSP has done very well.

Valay5163d ago

I'm actually having trouble figuring out why the PSP sales are up so much this week. I don't think a big, new game came out...

Ilikegames765162d ago

tired of the ndsl and shifting their focus on the psp.

Nitrowolf25162d ago (Edited 5162d ago )

wow psp doubled from nearly previous week

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic15h ago

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.

7 Iconic Games That Put The PS1 On The Map

The first PlayStation is home to an array of iconic video games that went on to define the sheer significance of this console.

SimpleSlave1d 12h ago

I think from a historical perspective I would change Spyro for Grand Turismo. It's the franchise that made the PS1 look like an absolute unit. Other than that, I can't argue with the rest when it comes to games that defined the PS1.

And to be honest, there should be space for Tekken 3, Wipepout and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater in order to round out the PS1 identity as the machine to own at the time.

With Tomb Raider 2, Silent Hill, Symphony of the Night, Tenchu, and Soul Reaver as backup contenders.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Knightofelemia2d ago

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

TheColbertinator2d ago

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.

Used to own all these quirky JRPG on ps3 good times. Wish I would have kept them all
