Gamersyde Preview - Alan Wake

Gamersyde talks about Alan Wake and interviews Oskari Häkkinen:

"It's 7pm, Wednesday February 24th at the gates of Paris, the scenery is in diametric contradiction to the idyllic town of Bright Falls. However, it's there that we had the chance to try the long-waited Alan Wake and to discuss it with the developers. An exceptional evening for an exceptional game.

For the few people who haven't heard about Alan Wake, it's important to remind that it was one of the first next-gen game announced, five years ago. The first screenshots made quite a splash, then we had no news until last year E3 Microsoft conference where we were shown a pretty average looking gameplay demo. Consequently it's with high hopes (it's a Remedy game after all !), but with a little bit of fear too, that we started to play the game."

" To be clear, none of the existing Xbox 360 games even compares to it, and even on PS3, which have more real exclusive titles, it's hard to find an equivalent. Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Crysis, these are the few games which can compete with it. Whether it's the real-time projected shadows produced by the essential flashlight (those were obviously missing in Condemned 1 & 2), the total absence of aliasing (720p 4x FSAA), the breathtaking realistic lighting effects, the huge size of certain levels, SSAO, the atmospheric effects, the humongous size of some moving objects, the vegetation which interacts with characters and wind, or the largely satisfying framerate (with a light tearing that should disappear in the retail version) and many other physical and graphical effects, Alan Wake never ceases to amaze you with relative ease."

" Controls are responsive enough to let you manage stressful situations (we've seen a sequence where the hero, helped by two other characters, have to resist a massive wave of enemies while waiting for an elevator, a typical survival-horror scene that you have come to expect in games such as Resident Evil or Left 4 Dead) and a dodge button (the same as the Run one) is set to limit virile contacts against enemies or elements from the scenery. The slight inertia of the character and some stiff animations could annoy the nitpicky gamers, but exploration and action sequences quickly become comfortable and captivating"

Going to pre-order this the next chance I get. I think the only game that matches Alan Wake is Metro 2033 because it have superb textures and lighting too.

tronz5179d ago (Edited 5179d ago )

For the previewers pointing out the unfinished animations in the preview build of Alan Wake. This is the pre-baked routine people are talking about. http://www.gameblog.fr/imag...

This is what they are working on now before release.

I received a disagree :(

great facial animation, but a lot of games surpass this.

Bungie5178d ago

wow that was a great video interview

i'm soo excited about this game , i try to stop myself from spoilers .

green5178d ago

I taught some fanboys on N4G said the 360 was maxed out and cold never produce games of uncharted 2 or Killzone 2 level.

-MD-5178d ago

360 is maxed out right guys?

iFLOWLIKEWATER5178d ago

I'll have to play this game myself. It would have to be very consistent in its graphics and textures to unseat UC2.

This sounds like the 360 is matching and even exceeding the ps3.
Time to smell the coffee.

@Pope

You just can't help but to troll. Fail.
FYI, from the past games I can think of that did really good face animations none are at this level. HL2 being one and my personal favorite.

Game is looking better and better.

dustgavin5178d ago

Of course this has the best graphics if you only own a 360. Just ignore the fact that 360 was released a year before the PS3 and is still trying to match the quality of Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, and God of War 3.

As for all the 360 fans above me...
I like how each of you have no problems trashing PS3 articles and then whine when the same happens to your beloved console.

Keep wearing those goggles and just pretend Sony does not exist. ;)

iFLOWLIKEWATER5178d ago

Don't let your Sony goggles blur your vision, bro.

saint_john_paul_ii5178d ago (Edited 5178d ago )

Im not trolling. why would i troll. an example of of the games im talking about is the new mafia game.

other games include of course, U2, KZ2...

dustgavin5178d ago

I enjoy that 360 and Ps3 are competing to deliver the best possible experience on either console. Plus, I never stated that this was a bad game at all.

It is just sad to see 360 fans act like no other console is producing games that are equal or better to what is being offered on 360.

No blind goggles here.

O sh!t 360 has the power of teh cell.

BYE5178d ago

It looks aight, but it is no match for the breathtaking realism of KZ2, MGS4, Uncharted 1 & 2 and Heavy Rain.

And btw, technically, this is a 2011 game which is sad. The 360 had a year head start. Think about how good PS3 games will look by then.

hellraiserpop5178d ago (Edited 5178d ago )

Apparently Gamersyde, who happen to have played the game (unlike you) seem to disagree.

And 2011? Your faulty PS3 calendar must've screwed you too. This releases in less than 3 months.

dustgavin5178d ago (Edited 5178d ago )

He is saying that the 360 was released a full year before the PS3. I would hope that year lead has given them enough time to produce a game that matches the quality of Ps3 exclusives.

PS3-2006

BYE5178d ago (Edited 5178d ago )

@hellraiserpop

Yeah, but if people measure it by PS3 standards, it would equal a 2011 game because of the one year advantage in the console cycle.

For the droids http://www.kleenex.com and some pics and a video for you below.

Akagi5178d ago

I'm sure the low-res textures won't be noticeable due to the general darkness of the game. :)

Viva la blu ray!

AllroundGamer5178d ago

also darkness in xbox360 games is great for hiding those pesky texture popups in the distance ;)

ArcFatalix5178d ago

jason360 is so insecure. chill out the game isnt released yet, it will be great though.

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran821d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto21d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia21d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger21d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie21d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

21d ago
Profchaos21d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie21d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh21d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

A thermos is upending the Alan Wake community

Remedy has Alan Wake merch on sale, including a pretty blue thermos. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone according to plan, and many players who want a thermos find themselves without one, though it does appear that Remedy is attempting to fix things. Nevertheless, it has resulted in a lot of upset, illustrating just how much the thermos means to Alan Wake fans.
