I don't think these are console screenshots hence should only be listed under PC category.

commodore645169d ago (Edited 5169d ago )

YEah i agree, those screenshots are awesome.
Sadly, they will require a $2000+ PC to run at those settings.
Probably a next gen graphics card, too.

On a separate note, did you guys read the article below the screenshots?
Crytek Boss Cevat Yerli had some interesting things to say about hitting the ps3 and 360's limits.

But, don't take my word for it.
No, instead, read what he said:

"According to Cevat Yerli takes the CryEngine 3, the PlayStation 3 through the limit: "The interesting thing is that we have conducted a performance analysis on the PS3 Devkit. The funniest was that the utilization of all CPUs, the Cell processor and GPUs was quite high - the needle was at the limit. Even on the question of whether there are differences between the two consoles, "said Cevat:" Well, basically, the game is pretty much identical. Probably the one console more on the GPU side, the other is more on the CPU side . Depending on what we are doing at a given place the PlayStation 3 sometimes (translation edit) performs better while other times the 360 handles the game better (translation edit). In general, the game will nevertheless (translation edit) be absolutely identical, when it goes on sale. "

Basically, Cevat Yerli is finding he is maxing out the ps3 and 360, the ps3 relying on its cpu, the 360 on its gpu, while both games will look absolutely identical when on sale.

Great news!
Will this put an end to the fanboy wars, or will it further fan the flames, I wonder?
Depends on the agenda of the fanboys, I guess.

@commodore64

I have a highend pc I can max out crysis maybe just now, you put far too much faith in crytek and the cryengine as much as he might talk about each engine being built from the ground up for each platform of course there are going to be differences they dont have the man power to treat each platform as an exclusive build.

You are still going to see the best of all platforms through exclusive software. Even more so with the ps3 because its so different.

FragGen5169d ago (Edited 5169d ago )

Anyone who's ever written a piece of software before knows that dimeing the CPU or GPU meter does not mean you've got the most out of the hardware. I can write a program that does nothing and dimes the CPU on a system.

These comments sound like PURE marketing hype/BS. For users, maxing out a system means making a product that has the best possible results the hardware can achieve, i.e. **efficiency** taken to its ultimate conclusion.

Unfortunately, there's pretty much NEVER a simple way to measure this, someone will come with something more efficient and make a quantum leap just when everyone thinks the pinnacle has been hit. So there's rarely any way to know when the peak for a system was really hit until after the product life cycle has ended.

I have NO DOUBT the Crysis 2 engine will provide amazing GFX but these statements are nothing but marketing/hype/salesmanship coming from a company who has never even developed a console game before.

I am not PC gamer so other than graphics what does Crysis bring to the table? I have never heard anyone say the at the actual game was good. Is it just a gloried tech demo?

EvilBlackCat5169d ago (Edited 5169d ago )

well there is always a first time

The game its great

There you go i pop your cherry on this.

---------------------------
@ nix

Nix?

dont be stupid come on

Crysis looks better than Killzone 2 and everything else on it is better than killzone 2 and many other over hyped FPS.

If you dont know or have an idea why you have disagrees is because you never play it Crysis but if you have an agree is just a ps3 loyalist supporting you just because you are a straight ps3 loyalist fanboy.

and soon im going to have disagrees on me because the 90% in this place is no matter what pro ps3 loyalist and they hate when somebody downgrade their glorious console and games in their comments

they proclaim to have power full pc but you never see them commenting on n4g pc area because they just use the letters "PC" as a cover

but dont worry soon you will have like a 91% in agrees and 8% in disagree... oh and earn a bubble for that

nix5169d ago

i'm not a FPS fan so i never bought Resistance series or any FPS games... but yeah i did buy Killzone 2 because it was just revolutionary! Crysis 1 was a tech demo. it went down because rest weren't as great as graphics. would i get it? nope. i am going to buy MAG though. it's again revolutionary in MP terms. can't wait to lead the team of 128. q:

i don't know why you got disagrees though.

tdrules5169d ago

@2 Saying you don't know whats so good about Crysis w/o playing is a bit of a wank argument.

@2.2 And KZ2 was revolutionally in nothing but console graphics.
Run of the mill story, stupidest in-game boss, cliche guns (boltgun and flamethrower).

Crysis beats KZ2 on sandbox, suit controls, and more people play MP.
oh and graphics by a long shot obviously

weazel5169d ago (Edited 5169d ago )

Yeah, and my dad's better than your dad! Come on dude, I can easily see the positives that crysis brought to the gaming landscape (benchmark graphics, etc), but the hating for KZ2? It Just comes across as rabid fanboy denial.

Bhai5169d ago

@tdrules, don't know what you're talking about when it comes to KZ2 vs Crysis2 graphics comparison... actually being worked on the same engine and optimizing it since 2001, this is no big feat that Crytek are able to do such kind of visuals.

From what is shown in these pics, nothing stands out here, nothing! low-poly car models, low poly vegetation, totally ugly trees and bland buildings... only good is the nano-suit main character and depth-of-field effects. The explosion effects are also mediocre. And lets not forget that its PC screens(3000 x 2000 resolution) and could be bullshots with extra anti-aliasing and stuff...

Need to see this in motion but nothing here claims that it beats KZ2 in console fps graphics, let alone Uncharted-2 or upcoming gow3!

FragGen5169d ago

I dunno if KZ2 was revolutionary or not, but I can say this: it PWNed. It may be the best designed FPS I've ever played. That includes C1, BTW.

C2 being as good a GAME as KZ2? We should hope to be so lucky!

tdrules5169d ago

ive completed both, Killzone 2 about 3 times.
try again.

Colonel-Killzone5169d ago

@tdrules and what did crysis do ? Did it do anything new ?

tdrules5169d ago

I've never seen a game do suit controls as well as Crysis.
Crysis introduced bumpmapping, essentially allowing surfaces to look like they actually have something to them rather than just a flat texture.
And of course, Cryengine 2 has produced some amazing mods.

What did KZ2 bring to the table that was new and had never been done on any platform before?
spawncamping?
slow aim?
input lag?
stupid online trophies?

Biggest5169d ago

The slow aim/input lag that you speak of. . . That's realism. No shooter on consoles had realism to their mechanics. It was all twitch and aim-assist. Thankfully, Battlefield adopted that theme as well. Now a gun moves like a gun. Armed, armored men don't move like Barry Sanders. Weapons move when they're fired.

Now for that Crysis list of yours. . . Why don't you add things like:
Invented peanut butter
Assisted Al Gore in making the internet
Impregnated Kate Gosslin
But we wouldn't want to make things up would we? Oh, hello Mr. Bumpmapping.

Cernunnos5169d ago

Wonder if its better optimized than the first.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071771d ago (Edited 1771d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141771d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1770d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1771d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1771d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack1770d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1765d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
