Remedy: We Don't Do Multiplayer Games

Remedy Entertainment say they only focus on the single-player side of a title, and don't do multiplayer games.

I'll rather have them focus on making the single-player incredible rather than tack-on a multiplayer mode.

cranium5172d ago (Edited 5172d ago )

Sadly, that seems to be the direction that most games are going in nowadays.
This makes me especially sad since I play single player games almost exclusively.

FanboysWillHateMe5172d ago

I have a bit of a temper when it comes to multiplayer games. I'm decent in most of them but that's exactly why I get so angry when I do bad.

Multiplayer adds replay value, but I'd rather go with the single player of any game. Less frustrating and equally satisfying.

I love replay value, as I think most gamers do. But replay value doesn't only mean multi-player. Games that allow you to start over with what you've achieved in your previous play through have tons of replay value.

Alan Wake however, seems like the kind of game that wont even need that. It seems like it will be one of those game that is just fun to play over and over. RE4 had that effect on me and Alan Wake reminds me of that game in a lot of ways.

Saaking5172d ago

Personally, I prefer SP so this is great news. I know a lot of people love MP, but it doesn't need to be in every single game. Some games are just meant to be single player only.

IdleLeeSiuLung5172d ago

Remedy catering to their strength and leaving multi-player to the studios that do them well, such as Bungie and Infinity Ward.

I'm liking what I hear more and more. Can't wait for Alan Wake!

Tony P5172d ago

No MP is a great start. You can definitely make an SP game worth every penny.

But I hope they give this some sort of replay value. Remedy flat out *never* adds any. I can't figure why.

mastiffchild5172d ago

Well, I think it's fair enough. They don't want to make them and they don't have to. focussing on the SP is fine and they will stand or fall by the choice(though in AW's case I fail to see a good MP option anyway-maybe some co-op could be done but the Vs mode in RE5 shows what can be done(badly) with a badly judged attempt at unnecessary multiplayer and why they're wise to leave it out of a game with similar sensibilities.

What I CAN'T condone, however, is the crappy way they treated PC gamers by leading them on for FIVE years most of which were spent using the PC version to show off the damn game! What makes it worse is the stupid lie about "intimacy" being the reason behind the decision(which it CLEARLY isn't!)-what's more intimate than playing a survival/psycho horror title on your own with your headphones on at your PC in a darkened room late at night? I think it's MORE intimate than sayt on your sofa with all the commotion of a normal living room! Had they just began the title as 360 exclusive then no one would have an issue but as it stands they really took the pi55 out of PC gamers. Five years is way too long to allow people to wait for something that never comes and I fail to see why anyone else thinks treating gamers like this is OK.

I've even seen some 360 heads HASPPY about it going truly exclusive and can't get over just how tight that attitude is. What if it happened the other way round and you waited five years to be cut off at the last minute? Would that be funny too? Seriously, with people hoping the clock issue with PS3 was going to be worse than RROD and the HR spoiler fiasco last week I'm beginning to think fanboys are going WAY too far and I'm losing all hope of us ever having a proper, supportive and inclusive gaming community. Not that 360 fans are any worse than any others-they certanly aren't as they're all the same thinhg-but these instances just show a nasty side to gaming and one that shopws us all in a pretty poor light./ that Remedy and MS have also acted very poorly over this just makes it more depressing and I'm concerned PC gamers may see more of this in the future as MS decide they want more 360 exclusives to be fully exclusive-please do it at annoncement, though, and not after people have been expecting games for years as it's a crappy way of working and lying about why borders on plain insulting in my eyes.

I don't know if I can asupport Remedy with a purchase after all this and as AW was one of the reasons I first bought a 360 it's really sad. However, buying the game now would make me feel like I'm rewarding their poor treatment of my fellow gamer and I don't want to feel bad when playing a video game! Bloody morals!

As long as the single player mode is satisfying then I don't mind.

Valay5172d ago

Not a problem. Not all developers need to create a multiplayer experience.

No problem. remedy are awesome devs and going by their excellent work with the Max Payne series, i'd say Alan Wake will be a very solid SP game.

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran813d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto12d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia13d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie12d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

Profchaos12d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie12d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh12d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

A thermos is upending the Alan Wake community

Remedy has Alan Wake merch on sale, including a pretty blue thermos. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone according to plan, and many players who want a thermos find themselves without one, though it does appear that Remedy is attempting to fix things. Nevertheless, it has resulted in a lot of upset, illustrating just how much the thermos means to Alan Wake fans.
