Final Fantasy 13 - 18.3GB Install for Xbox 360

Ve3tro writes: "Are you ready for Final Fantasy 13? Well if you are and picking up the title on Xbox 360 with the option of installing to your hard drive you will need a good amount of space.

After installing all three discs the total amount of space used up was 18.3GB's, so it's bad news for the (Arcade) 20GB owners."

red2tango5174d ago

lmfao wtf, Square Enix always manages to f*ck something up.

FangBlade5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Bereaver5174d ago

Don't blame square, this is the 360 talking.

"After installing all three discs the total amount of space used up was 18.3GB's, so it's bad news for the (Arcade) 20GB owners."

Are there people who game with a 20gb hdd on 360 anymore?

GreenRingOfLife5174d ago

Awesome

I have a 120gb so this is no prob

Can't wait to play this game!

Ve3tro5174d ago

Many people will I'd imagine.

WhatARump5174d ago

I don't think the install is mandatory so its not that big of a deal for xbox 360 owners...

How do xbox owners without hard drives save their games btw? Always wondered...

Fishy Fingers5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Judging on the HDD prices I'm sure many who's 360 came with 20GB wont of upgraded. I wouldnt have, but fortunately I have the Elite.

@WhatARump , Arcade models have internal storage, 256/512mb depending on age/model

ryuzu5174d ago

That's gonna be one expensive game when the price of a 120gb is added to it.... and having spent all that cash, you'll still end up with a poor quality port while SE and MS laugh their way to the bank....

Meh, I'd just put up with the disk swapping - yes it's like going back to CD ROM or floppy disk days, but at least MS don't get yet more of your cash on top of all the other crap.

In fact, if you don't want to relive the 90s or the 80s and avoid disk swapping, you'd be better off saving the cash and putting it towards a PS3.

r.

cmrbe5174d ago

The x360 sales when it when the 199 arcade was introduced. I assume alot of people that bought the arcade because of price. The x360 HDD are still rip off's and such those that bought the arcade because of price might not have upgraded.

we won5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

They're bashing and hating on the 360 version as much as they can because they're trying to distract everybody from their lost exclusive's truth. http://n4g.com/NewsPendingC...

They're nervous as heck. It's going to be crazy next month I'm telling you.

5174d ago
JasonPC360PS3Wii5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

The install is optional like 100% of all 360 games, mandatory is for that other console.

@Sarcasm below you can't install the Mass Effect 2 disc 1 without installing disc 2. You will get a disc read error because both need to be installed. http://meforums.bioware.com...

Sarcasm5174d ago

I still have a 20gb on my 360. Heck, for ME2 I had to delete Disc 1 to install Disc 2. Then I was pissed off when I had to go back to Disc 1 and delete Disc 2 and re-install Disc 1. It's a clusterf*ck for 20gb hdd owners who want to do the install. And yes, I love to install the games on the 360 for the quieter operation and less risk of disc scratching.

Oh well, FFXIII on the 360 won't be an issue for me since I'm getting the PS3 version anyway.

I really hope MS drops the price of the 60gb or 120gb HDD's, I'm sick of deleting game installs.

Smkt5174d ago

there are many people with 20gb hdd.. and even more with the arcade version. and i dont see the point of the install when you'll have to swap discs anyway..

Immortal Kaim5174d ago

Umm how is it bad news for arcade owners, they are optional installs...?

Anyway, the real issue here is that 2gb of data hasn't been used across the 3 disks. Install size for 360
* Disc 1: 5.9GB
* Disc 2: 5.8GB
* Disc 3: 6.6GB

Why?

Sarcasm5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

@Immortal, they are optional and it isn't a big issue. But after playing on the 360 with the install option, it's hard to go back to the whining. I commend MS for having this feature. I wish we could do that to PS3 games. Heck, I'll install 33gb of Data if it gets me quieter operation and less wear and tear on the optical drive. Do it Sony!

Saaking5174d ago

While not mandatory, I feel that installs on the 360 ARE mandatory.

If you don't install your game, there's a MUCH bigger chance of:

1.RROD
2.Overheating
3.Disk Scratching

Sucks for 360 owners. They get the THREE disk, SUB-HD, inferior version.

FamilyGuy5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

It's not like you have to install the disc in the first place. If you're a 20gb hdd 360 owner you probably don't choose to install games anyways.

This article is a waste of space.

But from the comments I did at least learn one thing. I never knew you couldn't just install one disc at a time until now. If it's a multi-disc game you have to install it all (apparently(ME2)) and that's kinda strange.

Immortal Kaim5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

I agree, my comment was in relation to the people implying that you would have to buy a larger HDD just to play the game. I also install all my games to the HDD (fortunately I have the 120GB model), and If I only had a 20GB HDD I would just install one at a time (like you did with ME2)...

I still can't get my head around why there is 2GB of data not used in the 360 version...Given the clear visual superiority of the PS3 version, why was that space not used to the benefit of the 360 version?

P.S Saaking, you're a moron, why are you still allowed to post in the gamer zone when you clearly aren't a gamer?

FamilyGuy5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Immortal, you're confusing me. Above it is said that you have to install all or nothing for the game (ME2 case, Jason360 comment) to work through install play and now you're saying the opposite.

Someone, anyone please clarify?

Rocket Sauce5174d ago

Install disc 1. Play it. Delete it. Install disc 2.

It takes like 5 minutes to install a game, so it's whatevs.

FamilyGuy5174d ago

"Anyway, the real issue here is that 2gb of data hasn't been used across the 3 disks. Install size for 360

Dude, the majority of the game world is at the end of the game, that's why that disc has more space used...

JasonPC360PS3Wii5174d ago

FamilyGuy installing 1 disc at a time may work for FF. The disc read error is only for Mass Effect 2 that I know of.

gaffyh5174d ago

@Jason360- that's not true, I installed disc 1 of ME2 and it worked fine without installing the second disc.

AKNAA5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

good going Square... This is what happens when you focus all your attention on the more powerful console first! Hahaha!... PS3, no installs rite??:)

but seriously... 18.34g's!!!?? gawd damn, ps3 install's ain't got sh1t on this!

Immortal Kaim5174d ago

I'm unaware of the ME2 install issue...I have installed the 1st disk by itself and am currently playing through that, when I reach disk 2 I will let you know if there are any issues.

In regards to the space issue, my point is that 2GB of data has not been used across the 3 disks, did the 360 version really need so much compression if that is the case?

DavidBanner5174d ago

For the 360 owners oh yea Babenetta all over again payback is a Bee

5174d ago
Rocket Sauce5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Fang and Lightning sound like American Gladiators. Are Nitro and Laser in this game, too?

"Don't blame square, this is the 360 talking."

Okay, if there's something wrong with the PS3 version, it's the developer's fault. But if there's something wrong with the 360 version, it's the console's fault.

Good to know!

silvacrest5174d ago

at the begining of the 360s life the 20GB option was the only option and is still the cheapest HDD if you dont need a massive amount of space so i imagine there are quite a few people with only 20GB HDDs

Chubear5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Those that believed a 360 arcade was just good enough if you only wanted to game, and all the millions with 20gig 360s, will now HAVE get a 60gig or larger HDD from MS at $95-$160... wow.

Oh well,

blue7xx75174d ago

How did Square F*ck this up?? Lost Odyssey was around 25 gb if you installed it.

SilentNegotiator5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Those are big installs. 20GB owners like myself won't have much choice here.

fatstarr5174d ago

LOl how will you play this if you have an arcade rofl.

18.3 gb install multiple disks and i bet you have to download what ever is missing. lol sometimes sticking with 1 console is good.

DMason5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

What dont you get about OPTIONAL install? Every 360 game has the OPTION. Key word here: OPTION. Arcade owners can play this game if they want. Newer Arcade units have internal memory for save games.

Sometime I wonder if people ever read the actual article...

@Saaking: Will you ever quit?

RBLAZE19885174d ago

I still have a 20 gig hd 360 and so does my friend so why don't you shut it and stop doin damage control. Maybe it's cause i don't wanna spend 300+ dollars on msofts 250 gb hdd cause they heavily overprice it to get suckers like you. I got a 500 gig hdd for my ps3 for $100 last year.

DatNJDom815174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Sh!t and I remember certain console fans complaining about MGS installs and all other PS3 installs........... Wow 18.3 Gigs. Im trying so hard not to laugh right now. well.......... :)

Pika-pie5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Have you people actually played on a 360..

The install is optional! Just like with every game on the 360.

20gb owners will just have to play off the disc

FamilyGuy5174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Thank you for clearing that up

Immortal
"In regards to the space issue, my point is that 2GB of data has not been used across the 3 disks, did the 360 version really need so much compression if that is the case?"

It would look strange if some in-game cut scenes or pre-rendered scene looked better than others so all are compressed equally, no matter how much space was left. The size of each disc is also in relation to a point in the story that square enix felt was a good stopping point for a disc swap. Those two first disc not being filled to the T makes sense when you think about it.

That final disc isn't even filled completely as the actual disc space available to games is around 7.3Gbs

MGRogue20175174d ago

... I knew the 120GB hard drive on my 360 Elite would come in handy some day! :D

deafwing5174d ago

.. guess a lot of people are going out to buy new internal HDs soon? that's a serious gb footprint.

solidt125174d ago

Just play the game off the disc. I wouldn't wait for an 18.3 gig install to play this game. It would take too long.

Man In Black5174d ago

I thought it was an 18.3 GB install fpr the PS3 version. I was thinking "Holy Sh!t" :P

dabri55174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

You do not have to install the game at all to play it. If you choose to install it, you can install just the disk you are playing at the time. There is no requirement to install all the disks. It's just stupid the lack of knowledge you people who call yourselves gamers have about game consoles.

Also Please note: 360 game installs are literally just a copy of the disk on the console. The disk is still required to boot the game but once it is loaded (must remain in console) all the data is read off the disk. For PS3 games, only certain data is installed to the hard drive to improve loading times. Data is still read off the disk. This is why all 360 games can be installed even if they came out before Microsoft established the install option. There are PS3 games you can't install because there is no choice. This isn't a point that makes either system better. Just the facts.

-The mass effect thing isn't true. I have it, installed disk 1, got to disk 2 in about 4 hours, put in disk 2, deleted disk 1, installed disk 2, read online that disk 1 just contains the opening of the game and all the different endings of the game (disk 2 has everything else in the game), so when it was time to beat the game, I put disk 1 back in the system, deleted disk 2 and just played the last hour off the DVD instead of installing. I had no disk read errors and no problems.

AAACE55174d ago

It's for installing the game! Alot of the Ps3 owners might get the wrong idea. The 360 doesn't need mandatory installs like you are used to. I install all of my games to my HDD so that the disc doesn't have to spin and the system stays cooler.

For those who still don't get it... You can still play this with an arvade unit without a HDD!

I'm shocked that it takes up about as much space as Lost Odyssey.

Christopher5174d ago

Yeah, that would leave me with -14GB of space on my 360...

I'm thinking of holding off on this game for a while, though. I need to see some better videos displaying combat later in the game that will make me want to believe it's not just more of a attack/magic menu hunt game and that there's something more tactical and enjoyable there.

Hoggy19835173d ago

So let me get this straight about how the 360 version is a disaster-
a) The game is not full hd but still looks good.
b) The game is on a few disks meaning you have to get off your ass and change it every 8+ hours. (Alternatively you can wait for a more able bodied person to come home.)
c) IF YOU WANT TO you can install the game but itll take up alot of space. But this is not mandatory!

So N4G has been churning up this anti-360 FF stuff for weeks and it boils down to this absolutely neglegible guff?

DarkAzureIIIX5170d ago

the 2gb or so is for encryption. which doesn't seem to work anyway.

Parapraxis5174d ago

So...They could have fit twice that much data on 1 blu ray.
Disappointing to say the least.
S-E said on record that they cut enough for another full game.
I think what they really should have said is, "we cut enough to fill the other half of 1 blu-ray disc, but instead of having a 6-disc 360 version we decided to sacrifice our full vision of the game in the hopes we may sell an extra 500 000 copies on the 360".

ryuzu5174d ago

Well not quite - bear in mind the BR version on PS3 has far better quality video and audio. So there's not necessarily much more quantity available, but the PS3 clearly gets more quality...

Seem to be the way this gen is playing out.

r.

Guitardr855174d ago

Out of curiosity, has Squeenix told us how much of the BR space they are taking up? That would be interesting to note, lol!

dabri55174d ago (Edited 5174d ago )

Companies cut content out of games all the time. Not because of disk space. Movies do it too. Do you think its to fit a movie on a DVD when it comes out? A lot of content is cut from games because it isn't finished and would cause another delay in development, which is usually why we see it as DLC later. There are exceptions to this and I'm sure there is truely content that does get cut from some game out there because of disk limitations. Here is my reasoning this isn't the case for FFXIII. If it was cut because it couldn't fit on the disk but was complete content? Why not release it as day one DLC then? That is basically money they would get for something they wouldn't have to put any extra work into. To not sell content that is complete is just stupid and isn't business smart. SE wouldn't stand for that. The content wasn't finished and thus cut, for time reasons. Not disk space. SE isn't going to release any DLC for the game (according to them) because they don't want to invest anymore time on working on the game. Working on finishing content that was cut.

It's typical Sony fanboys.

Sony coins something lame and because they're unable to think of anything by themselves (it being lame or not), they steal it, overuse it, and latch on it for months.

robotnik5174d ago

We will say, Play4Ever.

Bots got owned again in the spot where it hurts the most, the mandatory installs.

So if I was a bot,and wanted to play FFXIII and other games that require installation, I would be screwed if I had a 20Gb model, I couldn't play anything else than XIII.

Play b3yond bots.

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972124d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus124d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda123d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B122d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981123d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot122d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda122d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12124d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay122d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5
