Peripheral costing less than a new game?

Pachter, GTFO out of my internet.

blitz06235185d ago

8-9 million for Reach? That's possible though unlikely

But $50 for Natal?! With all the hype you'd think the technology Natal uses is incredible, but $50? C'mon...

xTruthx5185d ago (Edited 5185d ago )

Plz don't approve this

edit: lol how did i get a disagree ^_^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he makes a good point about Natal and others have said this before, Microsoft is not trying to make money off Natal but instead trying to get it into as many homes as possible with ease. What's easier than a low price point - even if it is sold as a lost, which Microsoft can afford to do. That explains why they dropped the internal chip, them trying to lower the cost as much as possible.

I mean think about it, who the hell wants to buy an accessory over $70 really for their gaming system? For sure it isn't that casual market Microsoft is doing all this for. I consider myself to be the "hardcore" crowd and I've bought the wireless adapter at $100, bought the 250GB off eBay for likr $160. But when it comes to Natal, not even I would but that thing for $100. So think about that casual crowd's mindset on it.

So I do see Natal retailing at a low price point. $50? I don't think so. I wanna say maybe ~$70 with bundled games, maybe one from Rareware and call it a wrap.

hazardman5185d ago

the best selling Halo game seeing that its Bungie's last one. Lets see what happens..so far I don't see why it can't. I know I'll be right there for the Midnight launch. As for Natal, $50 please!!

IdleLeeSiuLung5185d ago (Edited 5185d ago )

See, that is were people is wrong. They see overpriced accessories and assume Natal will be expensive.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but MS has a very good strategy in mind every single time. It wouldn't suprise me that MS will drop this into the market, not to make money off the accessory, but rather push more consoles and more software. That is how they make money, the software. The more consoles sold, the more software sold.

Just like how they push the console to you cheap and make money of the games and accessory. It is a well thought out strategy that any sane company would do.

Some consumers perceive this as ripping the customer off, but reality is that it ensures sustainability to a company to continue building out new products and services. It is capitalism!

***Shocking to some of you, I know!***

zag5185d ago

I'd hazard to say your all wrong.

MS will sell it for free.

Only cavet is that you have to buy a new 360 pro to get it.

so it'd be around the $400 mark really.

MS has never ever been into giving stuff away for next to nothing.

This patcher guy is dreaming to think anything else, and what with their share price so low it's not funny anymore I couldn't see them wanting to lose any money on it.

zag5185d ago

Err, you do know that Atari came up with that plan back in the 70's when they released the first console.

Yes, consoles aren't new and MS would be behind 100+ other companies to have release one.

Also I've been into gaming since 1985 so been around MS products for a long time and they have never sold anything on the cheap.

Blaze9295185d ago

lol wut? nintendrones, rofl that is the first time I'm hearing that one. I was unaware there were even nintendo fanboys around to give them a name.

Anyway, I was clearly talking about the 360 audience of core and hardcore. Hardcore, the ones who go out and buy almost every accessory to make their gaming experience feel more complete vs the core who might not see the point in a harddrive, wireless adapter, wireless microphone etc.

But I see you CLEARLY did not get that message. Just rambled on about...something.

Rainstorm815185d ago (Edited 5185d ago )

I have a fairly easy job (@ work now - answer calls & surf the web) But pachter your job takes the cake..... predict things that are either obvious or wrong in gaming.

Where can i get an application?

Sarcasm5185d ago

So MS sells $99 Wi-Fi's and $150 hard drives, but Pachter estimates Natal to sell for $50???

darkmurder5185d ago

I predict Pachter is an idiot.

N4g_null5185d ago

Lol@ http://www.n4g.com/up/10419... lol

try playing enemy territory and fighting a chopper with a rocket luancher now that's hardcore I don't even lock on any more or jumping a hill in a hog to ram any thing in the air!

I understand your point but skilled players make the game more hardcore. If it can have a true tournement then it's in that boat. This includes halo and mw2 even though I hate those games mostly because of the game play and lack of level design. I'm sure some one can crush you in brawl or Mario kart hell the 8000vr guys are like playing quake 2 or 3 guys lol.

Pika-pie5185d ago (Edited 5185d ago )

I wonder who will announce the pricing of their new peripherals first. I think they will both hold out for as long as possible, who ever announces first will be undercut by the other.

I can see it now... "Sony announces PS Arc at $80".
One week later "Natal to be launched at $75".

Natal at $50!!! In your effin dreams maybe

GameGambits5185d ago

If he turns out right on this I'll be happy, because I honestly won't pay anymore than 75 bucks for Natal. If and when it picks up steam and gets some super innovative stuff behind it to make it a must get(like a HDTV is a must get now if you own a ps3 or 360).

For 75 and under though? Yeah I'd take the plunge right away I suppose. 50 bucks does sound ridiculous though.

Wh15ky5181d ago

How much is the PS eye in the US? It's £25 here in the UK. I don't see any reason as to why Natal should be much more expensive than that, £30-£35 sounds about right, as far as I'm aware thats around the 50 USD mark, isn't it?

The wireless adapters and hard drives have always been Microsofts money makers when it comes to hardware, stick a cheap price tag on the entry level console to draw in the niave consumers (parents, young kids etc) then make the profit when they come back to buy the add-ons. The idea is to get as many consoles in as many homes as possible.

I'd imagine the marketing strategy for Natal will be more similar to the marketing strategy for the console than the add-ons. They want to get Natal into as many homes as possible then make their profit off of the software sales. Plus Natal will also be a system seller. It has to be competitively priced.

nogolis5185d ago (Edited 5185d ago )

Natal will be anything but 50 bucks. My guess, and I'm not pacther or even affiliated with Microsoft or Sony or Nintendo for that matter... Natal will be 99.99 -- Almost 100% sure of it.

Halo will no doubt be a huge seller... Probably 6 to 7 million its 1st month. 9 to 10 life time.

Maybe I can have his job. Sure would be nice... One can only be in a rockband until a certain age. Then you wear out your welcome. Unless you're the Jonas Brothers or 1 of the many untalented country acts... Then you never had an invite to begin with.

Bereaver5185d ago

Pachter is trying to drive a wedge in the price against Microsoft.

A lot of people are going to believe him, and be excited, but then Microsoft will release information that it will be $100 or more, and a lot of people will be disappointed. Hahaha, good one Pachter.

Lou-Cipher5185d ago (Edited 5185d ago )

If Halo Reach only sells 8-9 Million Units,(like Pachter says) then how on earth is it going to outsell Gran Turismo 5?

No doubt Halo Reach will outsell GT5 in the United States, but Gran Turismo 5 will probably sell between 12-15 Million World wide. Worst case scenario for Gran Turismo 5 would be 10-11 Million lifetime.

@Bereaver

I really don't see Microsoft charging less than $100 for Natal, I mean look at how much they over charge for their harddrives, and other accessories.

BX815185d ago (Edited 5185d ago )

@Lou GT sucks b@ll juice and Reach will be better than Brmmmm same track? Brmmmm..... Let's do it again!!!!! PS.... Forza sux too

TengkuAmir105185d ago

I am actually gonna buy a 360 back. :). I told myself i won't buy it ever again after getting 6 RROD's, but i've changed my mind and i miss HALO. Natal is going to be big doesn't matter if the hardware flops, it'll still sell just like any other M$ related stuff. Gosh. They're so good at milking.

AngryTypingGuy5185d ago (Edited 5185d ago )

I guess it all depends what MS's strategy is. I think the smart thing to do would be to make it as cheap as possible. This way, during the Christmas season when people ask themselves which console they want, the 360 with Natal at a cheap price may help them sell more. Not to mention the more Natals they get into homes, the more software for it they'll sell.

Also, I'm sure that MS will want to bundle Natal with 360s. They probably don't want to drive up the cost too much since that will just entice people to go with a different console.

But of course, knowing MS it'll probably be $149.99. Let's hope not.

On a separate note: It has always been known as PROJECT Natal, implying that it's a code name. I wonder if the final product will be known as something else.

Pachter knows nothing. He gets paid to make guesses that anyone with a brain can make.

KillerPwned5185d ago

Well then if he gets paid to guess give me his job! lol

Shame Pachter is wrong. Every. Time.

How'd fallout not make the list. Atleast over cyberpunk, tales , and halo. Fallout been around since what 96 98 and has 5 6 games into it. It's full of lore when you play it. I'd even add star ocean to a point.

robtion488d ago

Agree Fallout should be on there.

MadLad488d ago

And somehow Planescape Torment doesn't even make the list.

Crows90488d ago

Hollow knight surpasses these.

shinoff2183488d ago

In lore? I must be missing something

Crows90488d ago (Edited 488d ago )

Yes in lore. Easily missed... absolutely. Never played a game that had me loving the world and lore behind it as much as that one. Most of course wouldn't be able to experience it since it is a more difficult game.

DarXyde488d ago

I can't speak for all titles on this list, but by the time you get to Dark Souls III, the lore is a bloody tapestry of intricacy

Crows90487d ago

Played them all. Im not saying the games on the list dont have good lore...I just think hollow knight had more lore that is hidden but present and more easily explored and accessed. The souls games have tremendous lore but theyre mostly hidden and stay that way unless you look for it and research it. The lore is not very accessible.

DarXyde487d ago

Crows90,

I think that's a somewhat fair assessment. For me, the Souls games are less upfront about the lore, but it does invite your fascination through NPCs, items, locations, bosses, etc. There's this kind of natural progression where the picture becomes just clear enough by doing the essential tasks, but it really makes you want to explore every inch of the world.

TheColbertinator488d ago

Suikoden and Legend of Heroes also have massive lore setups.

agent13488d ago

narration is more important than lore i'd rather watch the story and characters in a more cinematic way instead of searching for notes and stuff that's why i love sony exclusive games like uncharted and gow and hate from software games

shinoff2183487d ago

The article was top ten lore in video games. I think they did a bad job picking games out. I know what you mean though. I just like a variety of games and genres.

Awesome news - so can we look forward to playing Halo: Infinite with no online issues circa 2033?

just_looken573d ago

"You can download the improved Reach AI mod at Mod DB" This was a mod 343 did nothing so the online will be fixed in our dreams.

SullysCigar573d ago

Par for the course with 343.

Profchaos572d ago

They did say they had a 10 year plan for infinite we just all assumed it would be DLC could of been a 10 year netcode rollout.

But seriously this is a mod the community won't be able to modify infinite in the same way

Cikatriz_ESP573d ago

Combat Evolved was the best campaign, and it's not even close.

just_looken573d ago

You should have tried this version of reach when it first came out remastered for a year there was no sound because 343 could not locate the sound files.

It was a special challenge.

badz149573d ago

more like the bunch at 343i are simply mentally challenged

ACEMANWISE573d ago

Well I guess 12 years is faster than most fixes. I guess this is a cheap way to "remaster" something nowadays.....by just fixing something that used to always be broken.

zidane1341573d ago

Did you even read the article? This is a mod to improve AI from back almost 2 gens ago. Nobody is claiming this is remastering anything. Yeesh.

Crows90572d ago

Halo is dead. Microsoft has other shooter franchises it cares more about now. 343 are no longer Xbox golden studio. They are likely to shift things around or even close it all together and give the IP to someone else.

343i decided to pummel the IP into the ground...and when they see it didn't quite look like Glenn's face they decided to just keep on pummeling. Not sure if Glenn is the IP or the fanbase in this case though.

Profchaos572d ago

343 were never the golden studio they were a hastily thrown together b team when bungie said we want to do something else cya

Crows90572d ago

Well ...I didn't want to say it but I agree. Makes you wonder why Microsoft gave them the IP and didn't keep Bungie or any of the talent they acquired from any studio.

CobraKai572d ago

“ Halo Infinite, Halo 3, or Halo: Combat Evolved. It’s hard to say which of the sci-fi FPS games offers the best experience all round.”
He lost me with Halo Infinite.
