Halo: Reach Won't Feature Dual-Wielding

Revealed on the latest episode of GT TV, Bungie revealed that Halo: Reach, thus far, doesn't feature dual-wielding. The first Halo title didn't have this feature either, but it was later introduced in Halo 2. Geoff Keighley joked that since the game was a prequel to the first game that the Spartans haven't learned that technique yet.

They couldn't fit the other hand on the DVD9 :)

Dutch Boogie5182d ago

lol @ baum

Master Sheep and the Spartans are handicapped in this new adventure.

Bloodraid5182d ago

Dude, stop being such a fanboy. I'm not too fond of Microsoft myself, but do you see me bashing a game that's exclusive to their system every chance I get? Grow the hell up, and be a true gamer.

It's a decision by Bungie to not include the feature. You're not going to play the game, so why worry about it.

Anyway, from what I've seen, the game actually looks pretty decent compared to the others.

STICKzophrenic5182d ago

"They couldn't fit the other hand on the DVD9 :)"

Funny you mention that because in Halo 3, you can look down and actually see your feet and legs. In Killzone 2, you look down and see nothing but the ground. Hmmm.

By the way, I love Killzone 2 and I bought a PS3 so I could play the game and I was not disappointed.

I know a lot of people like dual wielding but I was never fond of it. The customization is a really cool touch too.

lol Every time I hear about this game I get more excited about it.

lord_of_balrogs5182d ago

I loved dual wielding in Halo 3. It was perfect for maps with tight corridors. Using the smg and spiker on guardian in the hallways is practically unbeatable. And thus far it doesn't feature dual wielding that can still change. I hope it does.

-Alpha5182d ago

From what I've played of Halo 3, dual wielding was fun.

My problem with dual wielding was with MW2. In a Modern Combat game dual wielding two shotguns and getting kills halfway across maps was mind-numbingly stupid.

Bnet3435182d ago

Meh, Halo 2 was dual-wield heavy but in Halo 3, the addition of the Assault Rifle made dual-wielding not important. It's fine with me.

ryano232775182d ago

But that was the best part about that game.

Beefstew4u5182d ago

I hate dual-wielding.
Ranger Akimbo, anybody?

LEGENDARY PELON5182d ago

Is Halo Reach going to have regenerative health packs like Halo 2/3 or is it going to go back to Halo Combat Evolved on where you need to pick up health packs?

I hope it stays like Halo 2/3

Well if anyone knows, write back.

the top bar, which is empty in this image is your shields, the bottom yellow set of bars is your health. There's a good chance there will be some sort of shield based armor ability.

SoX FireBlade5182d ago

I know alot of people will be happy about that

Rainstorm815182d ago (Edited 5182d ago )

i agree 357
I hate dual wielding.

funny thing is MW2 added dual wielding and Bungie gets rid of it.

I hate akimbo shotguns with a passion!

Halo Reach IS the definitive next-gen Halo.

SixZeroFour5182d ago

in halo 2, dual wielding made is so that smaller hand guns actually made you a match against opponents with heavier weapons...in halo 3, it was almost useless to be honest

either way, i was always fond of mid range weapons...ie halo 1 pistol, halo 2 br, halo 3 br and halo odst pistol...lol

Blaze9295182d ago

ok, I'm a Halo fan. I didn't like this choice in ODST and I won't be liking this decision in Reach again. Seriously, wtf Bungie!?

Fragger2k85182d ago (Edited 5182d ago )

In ODST it made sense not to have dual-wielding. They're just ODST's, not some superhuman Spartan. It would be pretty hard for a normal person to dual-wield any kind of weapon, no matter how much they've trained with it.

In Halo 3 the dual-wielding wasn't pointless or anything, but it was mainly just there to give the players more choice. All of the weapons were pretty balanced. If they don't end up putting it in Reach I'll be perfectly fine with it.

A lot of people are going to be complaining about not being able to have two guns, though, and I'm sure Bungie would know this as well. I can see them putting in a dual-wielding game type in custom games and using the game type during some fun weekend events, just to keep people happy.

Rockox5182d ago

I suck at duel-wielding, so this is good news for me. :P

die_fiend5182d ago

Dual wielding was Hasselhoff in Halo 3, purely cos picking up guns was done poorly. U should be able to pick up guns without holding down a button. Also, why put melee as B by default making it impossible to aim while pressing it? It makes no sense. It's like having X as shoot. This game looks pretty sweet tho so it won't matter it dual wielding is omitted

Fragger2k85182d ago

So you'd really want it to pick up a gun every single time you walked over it? Don't you think that would be extremely annoying, especially in combat?

*gets ready to fire at someone with my AR up close, accidentally steps over a plasma pistol that was dropped and picks it up, dies*

Seems pretty retarded, don't you think?

Also, there are different control setups in Halo 3, so you don't have to use the default setup or anything.. Is it really that hard to go in the options and change it?

Hoolock5182d ago

and nobody I know who plays halo on a regular basis likes it either. It's one of those mechanics that you dont really care if it's present or not, I didn't miss it in ODST and im sure I wont miss it in Reach. I'll just walk up to two SMG's one day and realise I cant do it and walk away without really caring.

Perjoss5182d ago

They are leaving out dual wield as it does not fit on the DVD (ok, I just know some people are gonna take that too serious)

shadow27975181d ago

Didn't like it in GoldenEye. Didn't like it in Halo 2/3. Hate it in MW2.

So this is awesome news! Good job, Bungie. I'm glad someone gets it.

OspreyDawn5182d ago (Edited 5182d ago )

Dual wielding for me had no purpose on the battlefield, but just served as a niche feature that could satisfy people. Now it means each weapon will serve a purpose for certain situations and play styles, even the plasma rifle will be usable now (hopefully). It just balances the game, hearkens back to the days of Halo: CE and overall forces people to switch weapons instead of hogging the same one through out an entire game.

I mean tactically, why would a Spartan use two weapons a the same time anyway, it just disadvantages them, I'm pretty sure special forces of today don't dual wield, hence why I thought dual wielding in MW2 was retarded.

Major Kanimo5182d ago

but then i remembered how awesome halo reach is gunna be :)

Ronster3165182d ago

Could a game be any more gimped than Killzone 2?

It's a recent FPS yet it only features SINGLE player campaign.

Weapons that just about every man and his dog have used in other FPS games.

And online multiplayer with hardly any features.

Halo 3 has more maps, more game types, forge, theatre ect ect, Killzone 2 is a JOKE...!!!!!!!!!

If any game is "gimped" its Killzone 2

smittyjerkins5182d ago (Edited 5182d ago )

Just keep telling yourself that. If you played the game you would know that Killzone 2 has quite a bit to offer in the online department. For one, you can pick what kind of matches you are going into (pistols only; snipers and shotguns only; some maps turned off; certain game modes off; etc.) instead of the game just going, "lol matchmaking" and you are shoved into a generic game mode like team deathmatch.

kevinx10005182d ago

lol @ matt thinking he has a lot of options!

in halo you can litterly customize everything.

Deadman645182d ago

lolz omg killzone 2 invented being able to play pistols only!!!

just clueless about the depth of Halo 3 customization.

smittyjerkins5182d ago

You guys obviously haven't played Killzone 2. Aside from Forge, a coop campaign and the ability to record matches, Killzone 2 probably has more distinct options than Halo 3. Also, if Killzone 2 is so gimped why does it have classes to pick and choose from (medic, heavy, engineer, etc.) while Halo 3 does not? Why does Killzone 2 have Assassination mode (an entirely new game mode) while Halo 3 does not? Why does Killzone 2 have the ability to roll through several game modes (Team D to Capture the Flag to Capture point) in a single game while Halo 3 does not? Please explain because it is hurting your, "Killzone 2 is teh gimpead while haol 3 iz teh winzors" argument.

kevinx10005181d ago

"why does it have classes to pick and choose from (medic, heavy, engineer, etc.) while Halo 3 does not? Why does Killzone 2 have Assassination mode (an entirely new game mode) while Halo 3 does not?"

halo is packed with features and has a lot of unique and enirely new (and customizable) gametypes.

i can give you a huge wall of text explaining everything about halo's customization, but trust me. i really meant everything

(...having class based gameplay in a game doesn't make a game more advanced)

smittyjerkins5181d ago

I don't know if you are gonna come back here, but you have given ZERO examples of how much customization Halo 3 has. I gave specific examples of things Killzone 2 had that Halo 3 didn't while you are just telling me. I played Halo 3 and I didn't see much more than what Killzone 2 had. Hell the fact that you can customize badges, how long each gameplay mode will last before it rolls through to the next one (in a single game mind you) and several other things on top of that, Killzone 2 might have EVEN MORE customization options than Halo 3. Until you give me specific examples it's not like I'm gonna believe you.

Also, I'm not saying Halo 3 is a bad game. It's a lot of fun. All I'm saying is that Killzone 2 is a good game too and not gimped at all.

How'd fallout not make the list. Atleast over cyberpunk, tales , and halo. Fallout been around since what 96 98 and has 5 6 games into it. It's full of lore when you play it. I'd even add star ocean to a point.

robtion483d ago

Agree Fallout should be on there.

MadLad484d ago

And somehow Planescape Torment doesn't even make the list.

Crows90484d ago

Hollow knight surpasses these.

shinoff2183483d ago

In lore? I must be missing something

Crows90483d ago (Edited 483d ago )

Yes in lore. Easily missed... absolutely. Never played a game that had me loving the world and lore behind it as much as that one. Most of course wouldn't be able to experience it since it is a more difficult game.

DarXyde483d ago

I can't speak for all titles on this list, but by the time you get to Dark Souls III, the lore is a bloody tapestry of intricacy

Crows90483d ago

Played them all. Im not saying the games on the list dont have good lore...I just think hollow knight had more lore that is hidden but present and more easily explored and accessed. The souls games have tremendous lore but theyre mostly hidden and stay that way unless you look for it and research it. The lore is not very accessible.

DarXyde483d ago

Crows90,

I think that's a somewhat fair assessment. For me, the Souls games are less upfront about the lore, but it does invite your fascination through NPCs, items, locations, bosses, etc. There's this kind of natural progression where the picture becomes just clear enough by doing the essential tasks, but it really makes you want to explore every inch of the world.

TheColbertinator483d ago

Suikoden and Legend of Heroes also have massive lore setups.

agent13483d ago

narration is more important than lore i'd rather watch the story and characters in a more cinematic way instead of searching for notes and stuff that's why i love sony exclusive games like uncharted and gow and hate from software games

shinoff2183483d ago

The article was top ten lore in video games. I think they did a bad job picking games out. I know what you mean though. I just like a variety of games and genres.

Awesome news - so can we look forward to playing Halo: Infinite with no online issues circa 2033?

just_looken568d ago

"You can download the improved Reach AI mod at Mod DB" This was a mod 343 did nothing so the online will be fixed in our dreams.

SullysCigar568d ago

Par for the course with 343.

Profchaos568d ago

They did say they had a 10 year plan for infinite we just all assumed it would be DLC could of been a 10 year netcode rollout.

But seriously this is a mod the community won't be able to modify infinite in the same way

Cikatriz_ESP568d ago

Combat Evolved was the best campaign, and it's not even close.

just_looken568d ago

You should have tried this version of reach when it first came out remastered for a year there was no sound because 343 could not locate the sound files.

It was a special challenge.

badz149568d ago

more like the bunch at 343i are simply mentally challenged

ACEMANWISE568d ago

Well I guess 12 years is faster than most fixes. I guess this is a cheap way to "remaster" something nowadays.....by just fixing something that used to always be broken.

zidane1341568d ago

Did you even read the article? This is a mod to improve AI from back almost 2 gens ago. Nobody is claiming this is remastering anything. Yeesh.

Crows90568d ago

Halo is dead. Microsoft has other shooter franchises it cares more about now. 343 are no longer Xbox golden studio. They are likely to shift things around or even close it all together and give the IP to someone else.

343i decided to pummel the IP into the ground...and when they see it didn't quite look like Glenn's face they decided to just keep on pummeling. Not sure if Glenn is the IP or the fanbase in this case though.

Profchaos568d ago

343 were never the golden studio they were a hastily thrown together b team when bungie said we want to do something else cya

Crows90568d ago

Well ...I didn't want to say it but I agree. Makes you wonder why Microsoft gave them the IP and didn't keep Bungie or any of the talent they acquired from any studio.

CobraKai568d ago
