EA's goal is to beat MW2, says DICE

DICE's Patrick Bach has said that he believes "a lot of people on executive level" at EA see beating Modern Warfare as a goal.

The Bad Company 2 beta was a jaggy mess that looked and played pretty much exactly like the first one.

EA and Dice have a lot of work to do if they think they can go toe-to-toe with Modern Warfare 2.

i would love to see destructable environments in killzone 3, i know 2 had a few set pieces but its not quite the same... i really loved battlefield destructable environments, im sure they have improved that too which will be awesome!

I liked BFBC and the BFBC2 beta, but there's no way it's going to outsell MW2. As to beating MW2 in gameplay, I don't think so either. There's really not much variety to the game types (at least there really wasn't in the first one). Besides that - BC matches are long drawn-out affairs, where MW matches are quick and get over relatively quickly for the most part. With today's attention-deficit-disordered gamer population, BFBC2 just won't have the appeal that MW2 has.

Still, I'm buying it...

I was nearing in on all unlockable weapons and perks, so I decided to give it a rest.. because if there is something i learnt from MAG beta is that it sucks to start all over again.

I put well over 100 hours in the MAG beta, and after beta ended.. i dunno how much fun I'll have. (having CIO position really rocked socks)

So basically, I dont want the same thing to happen with it.

No matter how good a game is, after X amount of hours, the game does get boring.
So I dont wanna ruin this game like that..

(esp. since all the changes they did after the beta has me looking forward to it-- alot of the complaints that I whined about were duly noted and fixed! yay)

Beat them is sales. I doubt it. But in quality...yes they will. I am surprised I am saying that given my past experience with EA games. Some have been lacking in quality. But I am confident BF Bad Company 2 will deliver.

Agreed, MW2 did so much volume that will be nearly impossible to beat. However as far as quality I have no doubt. MW2 (at least the 360 version) is a total mess.

This isn't just an EA game, this is an EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment game. They know how to make good games haha. They're even developing the multiplayer portion of the next Medal of Honor game (which is getting a lot of attention as well).

If it wasn't for the beta maybe i wouldn't of considered BFBC2 being that so many triple A games are releasing for the PS3 this year. However, i assure anyone that hasn't played the beta for Bad Company 2 its the best FPS i've ever played in my life the only problem i had with it was the lack of anti-aliasing but this game is truly a masterpiece and i can't wait to get my hands on the final release :-)

as far as shooters are concerned, yes i'll be going from MW2 to BFBC2. but there's lots of other great titles coming out between the two, so MW2 will hit the bench long before BFBC2 hits the streets.

I play more resistance 2 and killzone 2 than MW2 and I hope that this game gets a large install base so theres always quick matchmaking.
This and MAG will be all the FPS I need this year until (HOPEFULLY) resistance 3 or killzone 3 come out this fall.

It's funny how the hardcore blog commenter community has such a massive hard-on for BFBC2. I was not really blown away by the beta. The engine IS super impressive... but the games I played were sort of all over the place, fun-wise. It's clearly a much deeper game than MW2 so I'm sure it'll be a very solid FPS but everyone is painting it like it's going to be revolutionary rather than evolutionary.

IMHO, MAG was easily more fun as a serious long term tactical team based FPS and MW2, whether you like it or not, is a better arcade/twitch/corridor style game. Don't get me wrong, BFBC2 will probably be a nice middle ground between the two and very much worth buying and playing but hardly a redefinition of the genre.

So, based on the beta? Sure, it's cool. But not even a day one purchase for me (especially with MAG coming tomorrow) and certainly not wiping the floor with the entire genre like all the hypesters here and elsewhere keep jabbering about.

I'm sure it will sell enough to guarantee a sequel. I bet it'll rack up serious sales on the PC (in particular) and maybe the 360 for the MW2 haters, it will probably outsell MAG on PS3, too, since it'll probably have more name recognition and make a better first impression (and hence get better reviews, who's going to play a game for a month before reviewing it).

I think if I had a 360 or PC only I'd be much more stoked for it... because I wouldn't have something deeper than MW1 and MW2 like MAG or KZ2 to supplement the arcadey FPSes. So, it's cool... something to be excited about, but really, you nutjob hype artists? You all need to chill a bit.

CoD is hacked when you don't even know it.

DICE have added more impacting and fluid aiming.

Unlike in BFBC1 where shooting at an enemy seemed like you were shooting at a cloud until the kill pops up, DICE have put blood effects and increased controller vibration when hitting an enemy to use, making you feel like your actually putting in work.

4v4v4v4 on small maps with 1 weapon should interest a majority of CoD players.

Mindless running and killing of an enemy with no objective other than killing the most fits your average CoD players criteria.

Why on earth is this game hyped up so much? I mean its a sequel to a game that probably not only sold poorly, was an absolute insult to the battlefield name. If EA were smart, they'd have ditched the bad company name.. if it's running off the same engine or a modified version of the original bad company, it won't sell half the copies of mw2.

They'll beat MW2 in quality (that game sucked hard), quantity though? Probably not. I've already pre-ordered it so I am very excited to play it. I didn't much of the beta, but the part that I did play, I enjoyed it much more than MW2. I enjoyed that the battles were slower paced and drawn out. MW2 has made me forget about the multiplayer aspect of CoD games. If the next one's single player story sucks, I'll be done with that franchise altogether, especially if Activision gets another studio to develop a CoD game. We'll have a new one every seven months. No thanks.

MW2 sure Good Fun game (has it's lows like all games) but they didn't improve anything it feels like i'm playing a modded MW. I swear at times i get bored of the game quick now since i played MW to hell and back, but with the BC2 Beta i found myself playing it without getting bored at all. To me BC2 already won against MW2.BC2 feels better improvements and it feels fresh not and not modded like MW2

From what I have seen and played of BF: BC 2, I say that they have MW 2 beat in graphics, game play, probably single player(longer single player campaign), and definitely multiplayer.

The only thing they won't be beating MW 2 in is in sales.

I don't think they will beat MW2 sales but BC2 overall is way better than MW2. The beta alone is better than MW2 complete game. I won't ever buy another MW game rent maybe but buying is definitely out of the question. I think once 360 owners get their hands on BC2 they will begin to see what those who have played the beta are talking about.
