Which console will win 2010?

The "new" year is already practically ancient, and pretty soon we'll have run out of time to make wild, erratic, entirely factual predictions about things that will happen over the next 11 months. So with January nearly over, we're going for the jugular and answering the question that's on everyone's mind: between the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC, which gaming platform will claim victory by the end of this year.

All consoles have one hell of a line-up this year. Probably, only getting Soul Silver, Borderlands, and Heavy Rain this year, but that could change depending on if I get a job, or not, and try to get an arcade 360 for reach, and halo 3.

Its gunna be very VERY close between the PS3 and the 360. We all know Sony and M$ has things up their sleeves. Until after E3, it will become much more clear who will win 2010. If I were to make a prediction, I would say the Xbox 360 will win 2010, because I truly believe M$ is crazy enough to sell an Arcade for $100.

Add Natal and Halo: Reach into the mix and thats an EPIC win. M$'s advertisement of Natal will just be too damn big. I also see the 360 outselling the PS3 for the year...again in America. As usual PS3 fanboys will go back to their "sales don't matter" motto and talk about "WORLDWIDE sales".

They are the two biggest worldwide markets.
Thats where people buy most games. Thats where the money is.

There are basically two ways to approach this question.

One is from the perspective of which console will have the best selling games. In that regard I think the 360 has more games in its lineup that will sell very well. PS3 has some great games too, but overall I simply think the 360's lineup has the heavier hitters.

The other way to look at it is from a personal perspective. Personally there are more games in the 360's lineup that interest me and that I plan on buying than there are in the PS3's lineup.

So, from my perspective the 360 has the edge in 2010, but the PS3 will have some great stuff to offer as well. The Wii should also have plenty to offer to those that the console appeals to.

So you think we should just look at one month's sales?....in NPD the PS3 sold a little more in December and the 360 sold a bit more in November...overall though the 360 sold more throughout the year in North America....in Japan the PS3 has almost always sold more....but the thing is, that's it...we don't really know what the numbers are from the rest of the world....all we know is that the 360 still has around the same lead as it did when the PS3 came out.. so the ps3 couldn't have outsold the 360 consistently or it would have closed that gap.

The point is, they used the word "still". That's inaccurate. Considering that last month, the 360 did not outsell the PS3. Also, considering that since September, since the PS3 slim and price-drop, the PS3 has outsold the 360, not only worldwide, but yes in North America / NPD numbers specifically as well. So the trend has been for the last quarter of 2009 that the PS3 is outselling the 360. Therefore it's false to say that the 360 is still outselling the PS3. You mentioned November 2009, well that was 1 out of the last 4 months that the 360 outsold the PS3, and during that same month the PS3 outsold the 360 in Japan by a far greater margin than the 360 outsold the PS3 in North America, thus canceling out any argument you could have presented to claim the 360 was outselling the PS3 in November. The fact is that since September 2009, the 360 is NOT still outselling the PS3.

ed: As to the main question - no idea. At a guess, i'd say Wii will lose some more momentum, the PS3 and Xbox360 will probably jostle positions back and forth (with price cuts etc playing a part). GT5 is the only 'big' game not released in any full version already this gen which has the potential to sell systems imo (Halo Reach will do exceptionally, but is unlikely to sell systems to folks who didn't already buy one for Halo 3/ODST). And i'd say Natal is probably more likely to be game changer than the Sony wands, but it will depend on hardware install bases and prior momentum (being almost a year away) and a thousand other factors leading in as to how much that changes things overall.

So def ps3 in 2010. The last guardian, agent, Gow 3 will all impress me, I am even looking forward to mag. Heavy rain and Gt5 will be pretty much guarranteed to be amazing as well. But the 360 got reach, wake and splinter cell. I dont really care about rpgs so not really anxious for mass effect 2. But you see the quantity is almost the same it just depends on what kind of games you are looking forward to more. I think this will be ps3's and 360 best year ever.

And XBOX Live was such a perfect service, that Gamers just had to pay attention.

So now four years later, Playstation 3 is finally starting to hit its stride,
A desperate Slim Model, and mediocre games, the Gamers have chosen a side.
If you look at the charts, PS3 Games are missing, their exclusives are never on display,
Because everyone knows that people purchase the Playstation 3 for one reason... It's called BluRay.
XBOX360 has stolen the Market, it hurts I know, but the PS3 is an epic fail,
You're celebrating a MONSTER exclusive like Uncharted 2 hitting its TARGET SALES.

I don't see the problem with games coming out on the 360 and PC, as opposed to just the 360. MS, as a PC software company, has a responsibility to provide for the PC market, this isn't a bad thing and it's only fair on the PC owners, who pay to upgrade their OS every few years. Sony doesn't have this same responsibility to provide for another platform, except PSP, which usually just gets licensed games developed by weaker development studios.

PS3 only has Heavy Rain to offer. A game which is basically a modern version of a game you would have found on Segas Mega CD 15 years ago. Ps3 will continue to scrape by on its knees, with only a handful of console sales (mostly due to the bluray capability it has.)

360... Absolutely nothing worth talking about this year for that dire system. Another year of geaky, non-innovative games.

Wii will continue to urinate on the competition throughout the year. Reviewers/industry speakers and bitter fans will continue to blindly ignore the wii's greatness, even when it has saved the games industry from a monumental crash.

2010 will just be another year that wii dominated in every way.

I think Sony will do great....even sale a little more this year, UNTIL "you know who" comes out. Halo has it's fan's and will sell like hotcakes. Most likely, this game will save the 360 in 210...just like Modern Warfare 2 saved it in 2009. I dont think people realize this, all of the PS3 games in Style do not apply to the other console owners

MAG = COD to a lot of people on Xbox so its not enticing, it has more people obviously however its got very mixed reviews on the beta

UC1 and 2= I LOOOOOOOVE this game, however its not HALO styled, COD styled which is what most 360 people like

FF13= this one is easy Xbox one lovers didnt care, they dont care now, MASS EFFECT is more an XBox style RPG

GOWIII= this is the one game I think xbox owners appreciate

GT5= Car games just arent as popular in america, I have no interest in it and I had no interest in FOrza eithier

In the end, American Sci Based RPG, Shooters are what apply to NA, and rightfully so.

Come on guys this is getting old. Every year we hear the same thing, and every year the same thing happens. All the gaming media talk about how close every system will be and all the fantastic hyped exclusives will be and at the end of the year, Wii breaks a record and the two HD consoles are left with scraps. Look what happened in the December NPD..my goodness.

Remember the whole GT bit on how the PS3 price cut would kill the already dying Wii? Yeah, just like GTA4, that didn't happen. But just for the sake of $hits and giggles here's my prediction lol

Interesting article. Nothing much makes me go "Now hang on..." except the motion controller for PS3 and project natal for 360. Anyone else just sigh at this? I find it depressing that this is where people want gaming to go. Do you really want to come home from work and then have to actively get involved with the game? I just want to get in my big comfy chair with a controller in my hand.

If I want to flail my arms around I play the Wii with my family but gaming to me will be always be in a darkened room with a controller in my sweaty palms.

Come on lets be real if you think the 360 has a better lineup then you're brain washed. I'm just going to say this God of War III by it self is better than any game being released on the 360 this year. I'll give 360 the sales with Halo: Reach over GOW but the overall better game hands down is God of War PERIOD. And don't give that lame (their not even the same genre) excuse, they don't have to be when it comes to which game gives you the best enjoyment.

MS will easily win 2010. Sony had a hard time outselling MS in 2009 with a price cut and a bunch of exclusives and don't forget that MS had no games. Last year if you were going to get a ps3 you had all the right reasons too but this year MS has a great lineup and that's all they really need plus a price cut would just be an overkill. Good luck to Sony though. 10 hours of GoD of Kratoz isn't going to cut it when you got games like ME2, SCConviction, Alan Wake and REACH.

You just dont understand. Sony can have 500 studios but what good does it do if people aren't interested in their games?? You had game of the year in UC2 last year and that was the only game that sold descent out of the bunch of exclusives from last year. Game should have sold a couple millions in the first weeks but it did descent at best. Blurays sales are up though.

Realistically GoW and GT if it ever releases are the only ones that might interest some consumers the rest are just fillers. Nothing solid and proven like what MS has. Sony has nothing next year. More headaches with every console sold but that's about it. I won't even mention Natal since it's just an overkill to an already awsome year.

you know that the 360 is dead in japan and the ps3 is outselling the 360 by 100 000 units each week in UE and since september 2009 the ps3 is outselling the 360 in the US if your talking about the us your right otherwise the ps3 is outselling your 200$ system (sorry 99$ in wallmart and best buy cheaper than the ps2 witch is a 10 year old console ) every where else at least 400 000 unite a month at this rate the ps3 will ave more base than the 360 (it has already most of the 360 owners have at least 2 to 3 systems ) you know if the 360 was a system without RROD the base now would be only 20 m
