SOME 360 owners let them get away with it. They should not have to pay for warranty on a console (unheard of in the UK), they should not be receiving refurbs and they should definitely not have to pay anything other than shipping. If the 360 community stood firm then ms wouldn't have to act this way like nothings wrong. I respect the 360 owners who challenged ms over its practices. I understand why ms wont tell the truth on this 1 though. it just wouldn't look good plus ms is actually getting money of the back of the faliures. I have 2 close friends with 360's and only 1 has failed. I'll admit that if you are still under warranty, its doesnt seem that bad, cuz MS will take care of it for free, and the worst that'll happen is that you'll get stuck waiting for it (which for me was about a week). And that aint that bad (unless you are a big fiend that has to play games and cant wait). I know cuz I've gone through this, my 1st 360, a Nov 22nd launch unit put me through this. It lasted about 80-something days and then died! The whole ordeal was not that bad, but i couldnt believe it broke, but oh well life goes on and MS fixed it, and the worst was that i was without my 360 for about a week. Not that bad. But now my 2nd 360, (the replacement 360) is dead! and its out of warranty cuz its a yr and 3 months old/later. And now is when the sh!t has hit the fan. I do know want to pay MS out of principle. Cuz i feel like they are trying to rip me off and i do not want to succumb to their bullsh!t. They want $70, which is better than the $139 they wanted originally. But truthfully, it is still to much! I shouldnt have to pay a damn thing! for it's their fault that this system is dead, not mine, because it is a faulty system. And i shouldnt have to pay no $590 to play this sh!t ($400 for the system, then $20 tax, then 2 yrs of live, which i only got 1 yr and a half out of, so i am losing out there too and now $70 more for repairs!?) and all for just 1 yr and 6 months worth of gaming? Im sorry but that is just not worth it and also the most expensive gaming experience i have ever had. And i am afraid that the paid replacement will just break down too after the 1 yr warranty is up.

"Oh but wait, dantesparda, there's more, you can buy the $50 two yr extended warranty, yay!" so now that makes the system cost me $640. And that is just to much. I have never bought a warranty in my life and i have never had anything break down on me within a yr and half. And if it did, then i would consider it junk! and that my friends, is what i am considering the Xbox 360 right now. I have one friend who is also on his 2nd 360, and it is starting to freeze up more and more all the time now. And he knows 2 other guys who's 360s have also just died. And my roommate knows 6 other people who's 360's all died around the same time as mine. And thats not even counting all the guys on my friends list who's 360s have died. And how about all the stories on the internet, the News, and the papers. So get your heads out of your @sses fanboys, because it's only a matter of time before it happens to you too. Not quite true - Nintendo got enough flame towards their was for the Wiimotes of Death.

As for Sony - the connection problems aren't that big as you might think - in most of cases the problems are coused by router configurations. I couldn't connect to Motorstorm too, but after I opened the correct ports on my router, the problem was gone.

And it is completely fair to bash MS for their quality. They are notorius for what they can do to their products. Look at Vista. (or Power Point).

that i have two close friends with 360's but even im not stupid enough to believe the failure rates 50% nor was that my angle I was just stating a fact and sorry if it offended ya. I also know more people with 360s but i cant comment on their experiences. IM NOT TROLLING SO BTFU. Take a stand thats all i say. My missus had a problem with her original ipod battery that they totally refused to sort so i told her to ef em, get another mp3 player and she did. Also when people said they were having probs with the strap on the wii remotes it forced Nin to sort the problem so by the time we finally got our 1 it had the new strap they didnt just let more people smash their plasmas n lcds. One should always buy an extended warranty in my opinion when dealing with any expensive next gen hardware. It will save you a lot of headaches in the long run.

first xbox was enough reliable, what`s wrong now?
does this problem will follow x360 forever? ofcourse, they will sell more x360`s(unless it`s their plan - to sell more x360 no matter what), but definately not going to make a bigger user base.
until they solve that problem, they won`t be successful on the market.
even 200$ for a hardware is too much, but probably good for those, who will want to replace broken premium. But still, people shouldn`t get used to pay for failing things or for playing multiplayer, imho.

p.s. if you will ask, why do i care, because i am jrpg fan, and probably will want to play Lost odyssey, Cry on, Blue dragon(maybe), Trusty bell(if not get ported), Infinite Undiscovery and so on, and i want a reliable console. And i am not fine with failing hardware.

Why bother or even risk getting a Xbox 360 at this point. Get a PS3 for this typ of gamer or a Wii for the kiddy type of gamer. If I was just now looking for a console I would dare buy a 360 even if they lowered the price because of hardware issues. I own one now but I got it last year. I have a PS3 and I have no complaints, the hardware is of high quality. The Wii is of good quality and innovative. If you have to buy more than one 360 within 2 years than dam righ the PS3 is cheaper in the long run so get the system that is the best and don't worry about it.

Last month.. my 360 died for the second time! I have send it to the repaircenter. Now we are more than a month later.. and I still haven't got it back! I phoned the helpdesk several times and they keep telling me I have to wait! I'm sooooo angry and I don't know what to do! I don't care which camp you are in, you need to call a spade a spade. I have been a long time supporter of the Xbox (since the orginal) so I am NOT a Sony fanboy (I don't own a Sony console). I still have my launch console original Xbox and it runs without issue. My 360 is another story. I have the premium 360 (I use that term loosely) that has been plagued by issues lockups, reboots, scratching discs, and now the beloved red rings of death. A group of us purchased the 360 (some launch, some later) and of that group of 15 people 10 of them have had the red ring meltdown.

The 360 is a complete and utter piece of crap. The original Xbox was light years better in terms of build. I think in all the time I had the orginal xbox it maybe locked up a grand total of 10 times. The 360 has effectively ruined console gaming for me. Console gaming which is supposed to be worry free, stick the disk in and play. Not with the 360. The thing sounds like a leaf blower, runs hotter than a hair dryer, locks up, scratches discs, and of course provides the red rings of death.

Thanks for ruining console gaming Microsoft. I await the class action lawsuit for the 360 as I refuse to pay to have what is clearly a known issue on your part repaired.

Fanboys wakeup, the 360 is not what it should be. It was rushed to market to capitalize on the late delivery of the PS3. MS succeeded in the short term with displacing PS3, but they are going to hemmorage users with shoddy hardware.

I think a good chunk of the 3RR (Three Red Ring) problems could have been caused by the NYKO Intercooler. I've experienced the 3RR problem but my 360 didn't die. It just locked up with 3RR. I removed the Intercooler and I didn't have a problem ever since. Regarding scratching disks, yes I think in certain situations the disk ended up being scratched. On most ocassions I think users moved the 360 from vertical to horizontal (or vice versa) while the disk was in the drive. Its safer to turn the system off, remove the disk, place system vertical/horizontal, boot up the system, reload the disk. While I think this is kind of ridiculous to do considering the advancements in engineering ..it is what it is.

If people say they are having problems and it is severe as the claim, MS would already have a class action suite on their hands. Now, my thoughts are that yes the engineering sucks. The QA sucks. 3RR sucks. I do believe the MS has the resourcesd to resolve these engineering deficiences. 50 million for GTIV downloaded content tells me that they do have a huge budget in the gaming dept.

I never moved my console - it has remained horizontal since the day I purchased it (and yet it etches 60 dollar game discs).

If the 360 is not as bad as they say, why do almost all publication outlets who use the unit on a regular basis to test games go through them like water (most outlets are on their 4th or 5th units). Why in a small control group of my friends have a vast majority of the devices failed? Why did EA come out and announce that even their own test units had a 30-50% failure rate?

Each time I called to have the unit replaced/repaired while in warranty (for lockups, scratched discs etc) I was advised that I should not move the console (no shiot, I didnt) and that I should llow my 360 to cool down before continuing to play it. They would NOT accept these as reasons for replacement. Now that I am beyond the warranty period I get the red rings of death and now they want money.

I can definitely see how MS will be profitable this year. Repairs and replacement unit purchases by end users are going to net them a small fortune.

The 360 is CRAP!! The games are great (which is the real shame), but what good are great games on the shiot console that scratches the discs, locks up, and then goes belly up!?

Microsoft cannot publicly admit how hight the failure rate is, or they would most definitely have a class action on their hands. Instead we get question dodging and answers like 'we dont comment on that', and 'users are really enjoying the 360 experience'....um I sure as hell am not enjoying your chinese doorstop.

I doubt it was planned (put the foil hats away). I hear that they overclock the cpu and thus have to keep the system extra cool (i.e. HUGE power brick and Jet engine fans). So anytime the fans don't perform properly it leads to the board getting hot and warping/flexing causing a separation.

Now while I and everyone else would like to hear strait answers they probably won't come from someone inside MS. Bill has had enough lawsuits to know how to avoid getting into new ones. Unless there is some kind of leak/informant the world may never know.

Not quite. I've been burned by a 360 once. My 2nd 360 (now only four weeks old) is acting up right now. If this one dies, it's all over for me and the 360. The reason you see so many of these article is b/c there are a lot of faulty 360's. When MS runs out of 'coffins' for their defective units, you know the return rate is high. i had to replace my ps1 three times and constantly play it on its side or in its dyeing days fully upside down, my ps2 two times and i got a third ps2 but a slimline and the laser blew in a month and had to get repairs doen
also my ps2's scratched my discs up and left cloudy marks on them, so no console is without its issues
as for the 360 thirteen mths and not a single problem, no scratches or failures, doesnt get any hotter then the ps3 if its given ventilation
maybe the problem isnt as big as sony fanboys make out, but yes the red ring drama is all sony fans have to hold on to, maybe when they finally get some games they will have somthing better to do with their time
i have six friends that are happy with their 360's, only one has had a problem due to the dodgy guitar hero patch

I'm glad that Sony fanboys are going crazy over this articles and posting made up story about the fictional xbox 360... "Yes, I am in my [enter number here (minimum 4)]". I honesly believe that the failure rate is highter than anticipated. I do have a friend which xbox 360 failed. I want people to make noise. This will in term make microsoft do something about it and it seems as they are already doing something by adding the heat sink solution. My 360 is kicking still.. so, I am ok. My friend already got his xbox 360 back... and said that his got fix fast, and free (since he was within warranty)... he also said he didnt have to pay a single dime.. not even for UPS to pick it up. So, asside from having to wait a week or 2 to play the so many games available for the 360 what's the big deal? It's on microsoft best interest to fix this issue since they are the ones losing money.
Sony fanboys act as if people have to pay for repairs. If you do things right... Some of these madeup stories make it seem as if they had to buy 4 xbox 360 which does not make sense since the 360 only being out for less than 2 years.. and the warranty is 1 year... + an extention of another year if sent for repairs... + an extended 2 year on top of the default one is like $60 bucks.. which you can add at anytime.
If you look around the this is the only issue that Sony fanboys can point out.. and this is why the fload articles about this topic the moment they see it.

Here is something to think about. I rather take 1-2 weeks breakes every 6 months or year repairing my 360 and have all the games I got... then to pay $600 to play one game (Resistance) and then not have any games to play. I would still be getting more played hours anyways.

Without even considering whether there's a serious problem or not, it's obvious that Microsoft can't comment. If there really is no problem at all - which is unlikely given all this bad publicity - then commenting will simply draw even more attention to the issue. Do you actually think if Sony would have the advantage when it comes to existing games at the same price as the 360... do you think anyone would bother buying an XBox 360?

Sony fanboys only focus on the console are always quick to take advantages of articles like this to try flame the 360.

But tell me... convince me... to drop all the available games available today on the 360 + all the other games like (mass effect, Ace combat, blue dragon, ....) and xbox live features not available on the PS3... and go and spend $600 and play Resistance and motorstorm.... instead of just sending it to microsoft for repairs which happends to be free?
If the PS3 would have the games and the best online services I would be saying the same thing... that's why I didnt own an original xbox.. because the PS2 had the games.

Stop saying stupid things, ok? You have to admit that 360 has the hardware problems, its hardware=crap, like you want the psfanboys to admit the lack of games, but even here you are wrong, ps3 was out 1 year later but in the same period it had better games than 360, and after all is a matter of tastes. On ps3 you can play non only Motorstorm and Resistance, but also Virtua Fighter 5, Oblivion, Gundam, and recently Ninja Gaiden Sigma etc and some good psn titles as Tekken DR, the world of gaming is not only about fps like you and all xbox fans think, i personally hate fps, they are all the same, but this is another thing. And your lack of games will end in september-octomber, that period will give us great games, and is still before the ps3 1 year. If you like your 360 that is dying on you so many times, fine, use it and play it, but stop saying crap on ps3, the 360 has it's problems like ps3 has it's own.

Thanks, you just proved how stupid you are! I will not say the same things for years because i personally don't need it, i'm fine with the games that are out and the games that i want will be here after 2 months, NOT YEARS, i say those things for blind peolpe like you who lack good sense. Yes Microsoft will not stop make games, is normal but what will you say in september october that 360 has a greater number of games instead of ps3? I prefer quality over quantity and the quality is on ps3 side, hardware and software. And the ps3 has the greatest first party line up in comparation with 360 plus all the games that it had it's still on the ps3 with some of them beeing still exclusive like MGS and FF, it's the 360 that have not the most third party games and not viceversa, it's trying desperately to own them all but, it can't. So i prefer to spend 599 for a cosole, and after to spend only on games and not like you spend in reparations, add-ons, and live. I will enjoying the games i want while you will be waiting for your xbox to be reparated.

In mid January I got the Red Ring of Death after doing a console update and an update for Gears of War. Called MSCS and had to send in the console. I got it back about three weeks later, same console with the same serial number, but it had new issues. I had random shapes, spots, lines, etc flashing all over the screen. I called MSCS, they said I had to send it in again, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor told me I had to send it in again. So reluctantly, I sent it in again with the offer of getting a gift game (PGR3). I got it back about three weeks later, with the exact same issue. I called MSCS again, talked to a supervisor, told them I've sent my console in twice, they couldn't fix it properly twice, and I wanted it replaced. They forwarded my claim/request to the Repair and Replacement Dept. and they said I would be getting a replacement console. I sent my 360 in for a third time, then three weeks later I got what appeared to be a brand new console in a retail box. This was around middle of March I guess cuz GRAW2 was out. So the console was goin' great until last night. I went to play the Crackdown demo and it froze three times. A friend wanted to play Gears co-op, so we started playin' and after about five minutes, it froze accompanied with a loud buzzing sound (from the speakers). It did this a few times, so I called it a night. I turned it on today, played Gears for a few minutes and it froze. I went through all the troubleshooting things of disconnecting and reconnecting, playing a different game and playing without the HDD, but it keeps freezing after a few minutes.

I called MSCS and the lady said I'd have to send it in again, but to call back later and go through it all again because they're having problems or some sh*t and can't process any requests blah blah blah.

I'm so frustrated right now. I was without my console for a little more than two months, and now it appears I'll be without it AGAIN. I've spent too much money for all my games to just sit around and collect dust.

Sorry to hear that... I would be pissed if that would to happen to me too. I remember being that pissed when my P2 broke 3 times of which I had to buy 2 of them all over since the warranty was only 90 days.

This situation sucks.. cause I lived it with the PS2... but as a gamers and not a console lover... I felt I had to stick around with the console that had the games I wanted to play.

I hope microsoft fixes this problem and do it quick since this can bring the console down hard. I'm sure they don't sit down and say... we want the 360 to brake... since they are the ones having to play for shipping and repairs.

As a consumer you don't have to deal with it. You have the option of getting rid of the 360 and buy yourself a PS3 or another console that offers you a more reliable hardware or hope.

There are other options. Sony or Nintendo. I'm sure Sony will improve their game library in the future and that their online service will match xbox live. So, you can buy a PS3 and wait for those to come.

To me personally, though it's an anoynace... I rather wait 2 weeks for a console I already own... then to buy another console and wait months or years (if ever)... then I would be saying....

"and now it appears I'll be without [games]. I've spent too much money [on the console] to just sit around and collect dust and not games to play"

I agree with what you're saying. I love all my games and have had great enjoyment playing them. I'm not a fanboy in the slightest, I just love the games I've been able to play on my 360. Gears of War, GRAW2, WWE SVR 08, PGR3, Forza 2, Saints Row, Viva Pinata etc. are all great games that I can't play on any other console.

I feel like I should trade in everything and get a PS3, but then I won't be able to play those games. It's frustrating because MS doesn't deserve to get my money, but I want to play these great games.

Also, I just got off the phone customer support. I spoke to a supervisor and my claim is getting forwarded to the Repair and Replacement Dept. again lol. I also got to choose a compensatory item. He said I could choose from Kameo, PGR3, Viva Pinata, Arcade Games Unplugged, Play & Charge Kit, Quick Charge Kit, Universal Remote, Wireless Controller or Vision Camera. I chose the Quick Charge Kit cuz I already have three controller, and only use one of them.

At least my experiences with Customer Support have been pleasant and not the nightmares I've heard about.
