Five games released before their time

Ambition and the desire to innovate is ultimately what fuels our industry, but without the hardware available to make some developer's more ambitious projects really come to life, we're often left with uncooked or technologically limited games that pale in comparison to the marvels hinted at by the design documents.

Here are five games that GamerZines think came way before their time, and ultimately, what we'd love to see a return of on current hardware.

Red Faction and The Getaway was fun and great to play

Whoooop5228d ago

ahhh Getaway...

So many people hated it and how much I loved it.

dgroundwater5228d ago

Ubisoft Montreal should make 24: The Game. Just re-skin Bauer on Sam Fisher and make a Conviction spin off. Conviction is already %100 a Jack Bauer simulator.

Rockox5228d ago

They already did make a 24 game. It sucked.

Bathyj5227d ago

We made our own 24 game. It rocked.

Everytime Jack shoots someone, you drink.
Everytime Jack tortures someone, you drink.
Everytime Jack's backup gets killed, you drink.

Theres lots more rules but you get the idea.

Rockox5227d ago

The only one I've ever heard before is every time Jack Bauer says "Dammit", you drink. Good times.

Omikron: Nomad Soul should have been there. Way ahead of it's time and hardware.

I don't think Red Faction should be there. It had Guerilla which was pretty much as modern and advanced as the foruma could get (And it was awesome).

FishCake9T45228d ago

Modern Warfare 2 if u get what i mean.

Gamer luv5227d ago

I would like to see remade is Unholy Wars.
That game with the current hardware would be a blast.

Anyone else remember it??

Bathyj5227d ago

Yeah, wasnt it like an Archon ripoff.

Anyone remember that? Like Chess, but when you took a piece, you had to actually fight.

Gamer luv5227d ago

Do you mean the remake?
I think i remember what you mean. Was it on the original xbox?
But anyway wasnt as good as the unholy war, imagine what that game could be now, with PSN an XBL, massive online batteles, with say 4v4, id love it.

I sort if disagree with The Getaway. Playing it all those years ago, it had a dodgy control system, more so vehicles, was slow and was graphically unfinished. The sequel was even worse and the third game on PS3 was canned. I think Sony should take both games and merge them into one (as with the soon to be released Max Payne 1 and 2). Weird how Sony messed up The Getaway never to be seen again.

The Getaway: They Don't Make 'Em Like This Anymore

Over twenty years have swept by, but barely any other gangster shooter is as dark and exacting as The Getaway.

I loved the first one sooo mu h, would love a new game or even a remake would awesome tbh.

Bring it back Sony!!!

Mark Hammond. What a great game. It was much better than part 2. This game defined what true next gen was to me back in that generation, it's definitely due for a remake.

Excellent game, Black Monday wasn’t too good but the first one was amazing. The way the waypoint system worked with car indicators and the healing mechanic leaning against the wall. Loved it.

This game looked so good back in the day. Still holds up well even now. Could you imagine what a PS5 remake would look like?

How PlayStation’s The Getaway managed to outdo, yet fail against, GTA 3

The ambitious PS2 action game is still revealing secrets to this day.

Orchard723d ago (Edited 723d ago )

I loved the Getaway. Its controls are/were a bit dated and hard to use, but playing what is basically GTA in London was really cool. Such a great setting for a criminal underground gangster game. I like that it flipped between the cops and the criminals.

Sequel was good too, and the tech demo they released for PS3 with Amsterdam as an extra setting looked great. I was pretty disappointed when it got canned.

porkChop723d ago

The Getaway was great. It felt unlike anything else. I'd really love to see Sony revive the franchise. GTA is taking longer and longer between releases. So it would be nice to play through other open world crime games while we wait. Sony can revive The Getaway. MS can revive True Crime. Saints Row is finally coming back this year too.

KeyAppearance723d ago (Edited 723d ago )

man, would love more contemporary action crime games, open-world or not. The matrix awakens demo makes me want those a lot more now, the possibilities of a good action game with those visuals.

TheColbertinator723d ago

The Getaway had some ideas. Sony was stupid for scrapping the series

Germaximus723d ago (Edited 723d ago )

I always forget about this one. Played a bunch and loved it but never beat it. Never understood why this is one they never ported to new gen or even remade/rebooted
