Has the Xbox 360 Already Weathered The Storm of the PS3's Recent Momentum?

If we were to look a month or two into the past, we would remember seeing the PS3 as a raging storm that was ready to beat down the house that Microsoft built (the Xbox 360). The now infamous price cut of the PS3 came alongside the release of several key exclusive titles (most notable among them being Uncharted 2, a game that was hyped up the ass and sucked up to by virtually every critic in the free world, touting it as "the perfect game")

However, after seeing November's NPD numbers, it looks as if the Xbox 360 is already starting to reassert its superiority in the HD console market.

But it only echoes what we've (the XBOX360 supporters on this site) have been saying for a couple of months.

The surge would be temporary, and then the PS3 will return to its rightful place in this generation...

3rd.

NO. ONE. CARES.

"Playstation is sooooooooooooooo 1990's, man."

Beverly Hills 90210!

Says the guy playing a game at 640p on a system that has no wifi, web browser, weather channel or blu ray integrated. Now that's next gen!

Srry but this was 2 e z for me!! I like both consoles :)!!!

Man_of_the_year5255d ago

LOL i can't believe in your counter argument you used a game that plays at 640p LOL (Maybe you should check out GTA4 again on the PS3 and compare it to the 360 which is in a Higher resolution) along with some other games. Also funny how that 640p game also sold more than any other game on the PS3. Hell it sold more than 3 of the highest selling PS3 exclusive's put together. LOL. And also you used "Weather Channel" LOL oh my god that is so damn funny. Weather Channel. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Classic. "Now that's next gen" LOL. OH damn please stop, i am going to piss my pants...LOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Wait....am i sensing a tad of sarcasm in that comment.

xTruthx5254d ago

Dude you really need help... how much LOL's and HAHAHA's can u put on a comment.... I forgot you played sales and not games

Black Friday was Sony's Hail Mary, and getting outsold by the 360 means that they fumbled the ball.

They have very little left at this point, and Natal is going to be a system selling beast in 2010.

Accepting this reality will lead to less disappointment in the future for the diehard Sony fans.

JonnyBigBoss5255d ago

Awesome post Ninji. You're the man.

Max Power5255d ago

that many people whole NPD numbers on a high pedestal, but I recently found out that Amazon and Wal*Mart aren't included in those numbers.

Lou-Cipher5255d ago (Edited 5255d ago )

Microsoft still has Two more Huge Storms to sit through. (and several small to medium storms to sit through)

When FF13 releases in Japan exclusively on PS3, and when Gran Turismo 5 lands in 2010. (and it is the biggest system seller on any HD console)

I think people forget that Gran Turismo is a much more popular franchise than Halo or Gears.

People also seem to forget that Sony has 20 + 1st & 2nd Party Game Developers making games exclusively For the PS3. Microsoft will always have a big title to release, but they will never be able to match the amount of AAA franchises that Sony can have on any given year.

There is still plenty more PlayStation Storms that Microsoft will have to stand in.

The Quality is only increasing on the PS3, whereas the quality on the 360 has been free falling since 2007.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....no.

WildArmed5254d ago

actually with 360s getting cheaper for black friday, ps3 held its 299$ price point.
It's subjective what you want to read out of those NPD numbers.
But it's great to hear both ps3 n 360 did so well in Nov

Weather the storm? LOL, banning 1 million players right before MW2 release, bundle xbox with one of the most anticipated games ever(MW2), releasing a $99 xbox arcade bundle at walmart. Yeah MS did everything they could to counter the storm and yet ps3 sales still doubled from last year.
So my point, its still WAY to early to tell if the "STORM" is over.

NotSoSilentBob5255d ago

It might have sold more for 1 month but they amount that it sold still doesn't make it even with the 600k-1mill that were banned so they have not made it back to the pre-banning numbers.

ballsofsteel5255d ago

okay getting outsold by 100K means getting dominated? if this was last year is the PS3 was getting outsold 3-1 i could say you would have a point but how is MS reasserting their authority when they only outsold the by 100k. and as someone else said above this is only North america. PS3 more than likely out sold 360 world wide for the month.

TimeShift - FPS Game Standing the Test of Time

TimeShift had a fairly muted launch in 2007, and while it doesn't rewrite the FPS rulebook it does offer an enjoyable campaign even now.

gurp6h ago

I played this on PC when it came out, it was actually good

Astrokis5h ago

Same! For its time I liked it a lot

CantThinkOfAUsername4h ago

Never heard of this game until someone mentioned it here last year. Played it and it basically represents most games from the PS3/Xbox360 era—good graphics, amazing physics, and extremely fun gameplay (time powers rock), but barely any story, weird pacing, and at least one annoying AF level. I finished Prototype last week and the same applies, except Strike Teams. Fuck Strike Teams.

I miss when ganes used to experiment with physics and world interaction

Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX

This could be fun as they make great tables. Go big or go extinct. Prime your senses for a neural handshake and step into the cockpit of a Jaeger. It is on you to cancel the apocalypse when Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX on May 16.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies6d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken5d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing696d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker6d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing696d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt6d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken5d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
