Ubisoft: Splinter Cell Franchise Xbox 360 Exclusive "Until Further Notice"

GamingUnion.net writes, "Splinter Cell has long been an on-and-off multiplatform series. Originally debuting on the Xbox, the series later made its way to Sony and Nintendo's platforms as well. Splinter Cell: Conviction however is currently exclusive to the Xbox 360, a departure of where the series previously was heading.

Ubisoft have announced that Conviction will not be the last installment into the franchise, so naturally questions have been raised about whether future titles will also be Xbox 360 exclusive. We managed to catch up with Yannis Mallat, the CEO of Ubisoft's Toronto and Montreal studios, at the recent GameON: Finance conference to ask him his opinion on the matter."

"Until Further Notice" = Until the Timed Exclusivity Contract runs out.

The first Splinter Cell game was exclusive to the Original Xbox for a little while, then later came to other platforms, and I'm expecting the same for Conviction because Splinter Cell has always been a Multiplatform franchise since the beginning.

The question was about future Splinter Cell games, not conviction specifically:

I'm actually all for exclusives on any of the three current-gen consoles. Each console has something that it excels in, be it graphics or sound or motion controls or online connectivity or whatever. When developers harness that certain power about them instead of vanilla-ing the game up a bit to fit on all 3, the game is released in a form that is truest to the original vision rather than bastardized to go multiplatform.

I don't want Uncharted on my Wii, or Left 4 Dead on my PS3, or Trauma Center on my 360. I like them just where they are.

Splinter Cell has always had a Xbox brand attachment much like Metal Gear Solid has been a PS brand... It wouldn't take much on Microsoft's part to get the game exclusive on the platform. Microsoft has had this deal wrapped up since 2006... so by the time this game releases they'll have almost complete mind share for the 360.

MS helped out with development, the game completely retooled, it ends up exclusive to MS platforms

Any ps3 owner could drop a few bucks on a xbox game and a cheap 360 to play your so called multiplat developer, time limited, 1/2 azzed payed off by microsoft exclusive but playstation pride gets in the way leaving a strong feel of guilt and anguish.

That's weird actually. I know SC originated on Xbox first, but I feel more comfortable playing SC on PS2. Coincidentally, I played SC first on PS2 then played it again on Xbox to see the extra levels.

I couldnt stomach what Ubi did with SC:DA. I was really disappointed in the direction that they took the franchise in. Chaos Theory was last SC game I played. I really hope Convictions delivers.

I've always enjoyed the Splinter Cell series, but Conviction looks way worse than DA. Don't get me wrong, the production values are great, but it seems like they're turning it into an action movie, which isn't why I played Splinter Cell. Doesn't mean it will be bad, but I personally hope it's more like the first few SCs.

I say get both so you can enjoy the best of both worlds. I got my PS3 early this year and am enjoying inFamous, Demon's Souls and Uncharted 2 and the better version of Batman: AA.

My X360 will always be my favorite console and getting the most out of my dollar, but having an option to not worry about "It could, what if, Timed?" is a great feeling to have if you are a real gamer and not a fanboy.

For you information, Xbox owners have been enjoying great games all year long with GTA4 2 DLCs, Shadow Complex, Halo Wars, Halo ODST, Forza 3, soon L4D2 and great multiplat in MW2, Assasin's Creed 2.

THIS WILL BE ON THE PS3, SHORTLY AFTER IT RELEASES ON THE 360. Ninja Gaden, Oblivion, Bioshock, and GTA, can clearly see that Sony is once again...making it's way back to their throne. Xbox 360 fans like their system for shooters, so these types of games traditionally are not that well accepted. Don't get me wrong, Splinter Cell will sell around 2-4 million, but I know that developers are hoping for more. It will not out shine Alan Wake....another 360 exclusive coming out around that same time. Uncharted 2 and Ratchet will both outsell Splinter Cell, and the developers are gonna want to port it over...to make more money. I love adventure/action single player games, so I would but it.
