I can't help but think that Natal will be about as successful at securing casual gamers for Microsoft as their paying for jrpg's was for securing the Japanese market.

I can see hard core gamers, most notably the xbox 360 supporters, being excited for Natal but I do not see it's release expanding Microsoft demographics much at all.

From a price point of view, casual gamers are going to think that Natal is an over developed attempt at copying the already successful Wii. Only the hardcore technology guru's are going to see the effort Microsoft put into on improving what Nintendo invented.

To be perfectly honest though, it annoys me when either Sony or Microsoft attempt to dip into someone's market. Nintendo has the causal market, Microsoft has the FPS market (why else would such a great game in KZ2 sell so little?) and Sony has the jrpg market. That's just how it is. So, Natal and even Sony's version of Natal are both bad ideas that are just taking away from the games that we, the fan base, want to play.

The tech is a serious development even outside of games.

Priced "on a curve" and priced high are two different things. Practically everything except commodities are priced on a curve and it moves along the curve as an economy of scale builds. So, like everything that doesn't have its price set by the market it will gradually lower in price over time.

so technically it's the same console, but just market it to seem like an entirely new console and throw in the words that it's 100% "backwards compatible" to 360 games, and it'll sell like a new console to the casual crowd. Of course, take out the controllers and print on the back of the box that they are accessories, because controllers aren't needed for the natal experience.

Where MS has gamers by the b@lls with HDD and wi-fi, certainly with online, Natal is in response to the Wiimote and casual gamers. Who if they haven't picked up a 360 by now sure as heck aren't going to touch one if they have to buy an add-on that costs as much as the console. It has to come in at a reasonable price.

Alot of the proccesing is being done onboard its not just a camera its literally a system that is doing most of the interpretation and calculations onboard.

Things like adavanced heat sensing technology are still really expensive allowing it to see in the dark. It all adds up to a new console.

Bach telling us it'll have a similar pricing method to consoles: A) tells me it will be somewhere $149-$199 at launch. Something they plan to sell affordably doesn't need a price curve. B) it will be overpriced because aren't all of MS's peripherals horribly so at the expense of us gamers? C) most importantly, extending the life of a 5 year old machine when most of us would rather see its successor.

I guess it's just me. I would rather MS delay Natal to 2011 and package it w/ the 720($399). Drop the price of the 360 Elite to $199 and continue supporting it til 2012-13.

Natal is doomed to failure for a few reasons. First and biggest problem is the room needed to use it. In every video and demonstration the areas were very large. I don't see parents making extra room so their kids can play a game. Not to mention most homes don't have free space that large. Second is the whole full body detection thing. Assuming it works as has been demoed how do you expect to be able to play in an open area like that without people constantly walking in front of you. Seriously, Could you imagine that conversation? Mom, Dad, I need you to stay in your room and make sure my brother/sister doesn't come through the family room for the next 3 hours because I am gonna be playing a game. Lastly according to the speculation in this article is price.

1. $60 for Halo Odst 3-4 maps it could've been a DLC for $40 the new one is coming out next year.

2. $100 for Wi-fi that sould have already been in the system

3. $50 to get on-line and its for on Sony but PSN is a bad network, a! its free so i'm not complaining.

4. Now you fin to pay $150-$250 for Natal you only can play about 2-3 games on it, more will come but how will you pause the game if you got to do a #1 or a #2 if you have kids or a baby what can you do, you can't hold them while you playing did Microsoft think of this before making Natal or maybe its about your money and how many people they can fool like the launch in 2005 people not knowing the failure rate.

I could already see already how this is gonna work. The camera will be priced between $125-$150. People will be upset about that (with every right to be) but then M$ will bundle it with a 360 which they'll sell for $400. Since no one wants to pay a ridiculous amount of money for just a camera , it'll be a better idea to by the bundle because it seems cheaper. M$ will do all this just to push more console sales. I hope you people don't expect the camera to be less than $100. You would only be deluding yourselves. The Wi-Fi adaptor and HDD costs $100. Since Natal will be able to do so much, it stands to reason it'll cost more than a Wi-Fi adaptor which only allows wireless internet connection and a HDD that only stores stuff. M$ is known for over pricing their accessories so I know Natal won't be cheap. I could already see a lot of people on this site are already buying into the hype so I'm sure if your buying the hype you'll definitely buy Natal no matter the cost. So sad.

MS is trying to get some of the casual market, but Natal is destined to flop hard. The Xbox brand of "in your face" fanboyism and casual gaming don't even sound good together.

As far as the Sony wand is concerned, at least they are on the right track with a Wiimote type design. Sony forgets though that Wii has 1:1 motion NOW and attachments (ala Nunchuck) which gamers are getting accustomed too now. Sony will need a killer app to go along with their wand or it will flop hard as well.

Honestly both MS/sony should just keep going with the 2nd HD era war, because trying to slice into Nintendo's market reminds me of companies trying to topple Gameboy/DS.

I wonder how many people will buy the Sony Interface when it is released and will there be a great debate about price and a aging system.
I still say Natal will sell and price will not be the deciding factor, questions were debated about Ntendos Wii and motion controllers and now they are number one in console sales even after TV's were broken and people were getting smacked because they were to close to the home run swing.
This market is there for the taking and it don't matter who name is on the product so for everyone that say they will not buy it because of price or what ever there will be one that will buy it and love it or hate it.
Forward usage to match the next series of console will most likely be there it would be stupid not make so, most likely be A USB interface connection simple and easy.

Dunno if I'll get it. I am not a fan of the Wii and it doesn't appeal to me in the slightest but that might be because the games it offers doesn't appeal to me.

Depending on what games Sony put out to work with their controller and how well it works will have a bearing on my decision. Games will be the major influence on whether or not I buy it but up until now, nothing has made me sit up and take notice except for EyePet, but that just impresses me more than it makes me want to buy it since I've not got any kids lol.

Best if everyone waits for an offical price announcement from MS before getting excited or worked up.

Natal is probably a pretty advanced piece of tech and it won't be surprising if it starts off expensive (MS peripherals and add-ons for the xbox are pretty pricey already) but at the same time MS will want some penetration with this and to make it accessible to people, considering the entry price for a 360 is quite low. So there's also good reason to believe it'll be reasonably priced, unlike some of their other accessories.

Like I said before, best to wait on something official, because none of us really know what they're planning.
