Banned Xbox 360 on Live again: InFeCtuS modchip will help

In light of the recent announcement that Microsoft is now starting to prevent owners of modified Xbox 360 consoles, the team behind InFeCtuS saw it fit to claim that their modchip is one of the best solutions to play Xbox 360 online games while still having a modified Xbox 360. They reason that it is because their InFeCtuS modchip can be turned off while you play an original game on Xbox Live.

While qj.net feel that it is important to inform you of this particular development they don't exactly recommend that you try this out. For one thing, folks who have more respect for "the law" might get offended by this. Second, they have yet to confirm if the claim that the modchip will be able to workaround Microsoft's new security net actually works - that is, mod your Xbox 360 and still get you on Xbox Live.

What make this people think that Microsoft will only be checking when the console connects to xbox live? What if Microsoft check for the mod when the console is started by running the mod sniffer(which can be shipped on any new game or downloaded on any of the updates) and flag the system that any future attempts to connect to xbox live should be blocked. If this becomes a problem microsoft can also go as far as banning the person accounts... There are many ways to detect this chip... a very smart way would be to detect if there any other component in the system by checking how much power is being used. If more Power is being use than what the 360 is designed to consume then Mod in Box = Ban! LOL.

I don't think we are hating... I personally don't have the need to pay someone to steal someone's hard earning work. This does not affect me directly.. I did mod my original PS1 but that's because I was a teenager and didnt have a job. The funny thing is that I always purchased the games I really wanted to play even if I could copy it. i.e. Final Fantasy and Metal Gear because I felt like I wanted to have the real thing and support the developers so they can continue bringing new contect.
Anyways... if you are a person that likes to download/buy pirate stuff... that means that you will get it for free or not get it at all... for the most parts you are not a customer... So, what's the difference? but when your console is banned/bricked, or you get a fine just remember not to b!tch about it and come and post crap such as "the xbox 360 sucks cause it gave me the 3 rings of death".

If only there were surefire ways to protect the innocent, I'd be all for it. But the moment you brick consoles, some bug would wind up happening to screw unmodded people. And that's not a bash agaisnt anyone- that's just what happens in the computer industry.

have as much creative impulse or actual intelegence as an fly...they pretty much run on instinct, Modders aren't all these people that created these reverse engineering marvels to bypass security schemes. they are simply people that found a modchip online and either had some one else or soldered it on them selves so they could play copied games with out buying them, or to cheat online.

why you people think that everyone who mod their 360's are online cheaters? who cheat in games like Halo o gears. I have a mod 360, i played on live but never cheat in game, in fact i never use glitches, i don't like it. Just like Excalibur said, i feel good playing under the rules, with not cheating i don't care if i get my butt kicked, i always had fun. Why a mod my 360, well i live in southamerica, i work, i have a good life, but i don't get pay in dollars, here games and consoles are very expensive. Modders not only steal from the service provider, but they also steal from me when they go online and cheat. They take away my pleasure in playing a game I paid $60 for. That is why I have no sympathy for them. When someone can cheat it is not fun for the other people playing.

It almost seems like Microsoft is fighting a futile war, but and while it's partially their fault I don't blame them for trying to fight against it. They don't have the luxury that Sony has with hardware security (Cell has 3 levels of security built-in, and no one's been able to hack it), so they've done a commendable job so far.

The reason modders are all clumped together in these anti-modding efforts is because there's no real way to distinguish amongst them without doing case-by-case analysis, which is simply too expensive and time-consuming. However, I do think that Microsoft should be a little more intelligent about their decisions with topics such as game-save sharing, roster communities built by hardcore 360 users, etc. The press, as well as the public, are very sensitive to these issues and will not easily turn a blind eye.

I just want you to make sure you separate out modders who cheat, and modders who don't. There are plenty of decent, adult modders out there who mod, play on live, and don't start any sh!t with anyone. I won't go into their reasons, since everyone is different (though I agree that for some, modding is "in the blood." These modders, I guess they don't have to be adults, are also a VALUABLE ASSET to keep around. Look at it this way: Microsoft and Game studios were never going to squeeze a penny out of them; if the modder wasn't able to play the game image, they wouldn't buy it in the first place. So M$ really isn't "losing" any money over this, or at least not the overblown figures that IPNAZI's like RIAA claim. Second, now that they have the game, let's say GoW, the modder will want to play on live. Money for M$! And said modder will want the extra levels... Microtransaction money for M$!!

I think there's a legitimate business plan behind closed doors ar M$ that shutting the modders out of live and denying them the marketplace will lose more money than letting them mod, which they will do anyway, and keep milking them for live fees, hardware, etc.

This is similar to M$ software being easily hacked. I think it was on these boards that I read it benefits microsoft to some degree, because their software leaks like a virus. The 1337 community all grows up hacking windows and word, and that's what they're proficient on, so when they do go to work at an office, that office has to buy big-@ss site licenses for what the 1337 are all trained on. It's a beautiful system really.

Do you think that if M$ didn't know how to benefit from modders, hacker, and pirates, that they would have made the Xbox and Xbox360 so similar in PC architecture? They could have gone the Sony route, with proprietary media, weird architecture, etc. They didn't. They chose DVD9 over blu-ray, and this choice alone creates a buzz among the mod and homebrew scene because the 360 is the more flexible, malleable piece of hardware...
