Are All Xbox 360s Doomed To Fail? Student Survey Aims To Find Out

Reader Ben Strauss is doing a cool project for his marketing class - he's surveying Xbox owners to find out how many have had failed Xboxes and/or know someone who does. So far he's interviewed 200 people and is seeing a 71% failure rate, with 85% of respondents saying they know someone with a failed Xbox.

what ?
so its not 52%
its more ??

LOL

KingKionic 5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

It was feedback from some respondents .

Basically saying the failure rate of there users were 71 percent....

lsujester5327d ago

Well, like any homegrown survey, it's bound to have a decent margin or error, especially when it relies on people taking the initiative to report one way or another. People who have experienced it are a lot more likely to respond than those who've never had to deal with it.

Either way, the failure rate is far too high. Luckily though... mine is still going strong two years later.

KRUSSIDULL5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

Microsoft saying 16% Failure rate of first-gen Xbox 360's And then uncontrolled survey says 54% and now 71% failure rate why not just say 100% to make the PS3 fans happy?

Edit: Will this be the new percent PS3 fans will use to spin 360 articles?

heroicjanitor5327d ago

But they probably were early adopters of the system. The rate for the current ones probably isn't as high. The ps3 60Gb failure rate is very high as well though not near the 360, and accounts for most of that 10% people were seeing(since people who were online to vote probably would have been into gaming enough to get a ps3 early). I would like to see ms official numbers but the rate isn't good enough to release.

HolyOrangeCows5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

Just like with the gameinformer survey, people will cry:

''ZOMG! You says tis is teh facts but is jus teh servay!''

When it's just a survey that was never meant to be taken as fact.
These are his findings and those were Game Informer's findings.
Get over it.

randomwiz5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

except its different from the gameinformer survey. Anyone could've claimed they had a 360 that failed in the gameinformer survey.

In this survey, its much harder for trolls to say that they're 360 failed since they actually have to talk to the person

Beast_Master5327d ago

Margine of error or not, 71% sounds about right to me. Only one of my friends with a 360 has not had it break. And that was his little brothers who plays only rock band on it. I challenge anyone to do this same survey and not find around the same totals.

chaosatom5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

"It's only at 71%! Let's pump more money in buying exclusives and less on fixing the RROD problem.

As long as people blindly buy xbox, we have nothing to worry about"

ReservoirDog3165327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

I'm sure it's bad but not this bad. I don't understand why they don't redesign the 360 like the PS3. It's bound to fix the failure rate.

But that would still leave however many millions the 360 has sold with a high failure rate. I doubt this could ever really truly be solved.

edit: For the record, my 360 has never RRODed. The disk drive broke though. And that wasn't covered in their warranty so yay for me.

darthv725327d ago

If I say mine has failed it is considered a 100% failure rate for me? Being that I have 2 then it drops to only a 50% because only 1 of two failed. But then again I technically have had a total of 3. 1 failed and 1 replaced and 1 not failed. So that make me a 33.3333...% failure.

I dont know about these surveys. As with almost anything they can be manipulated for or against the subject at hand.

cmrbe5327d ago

Of 7 people i know personally that have have x360. All have x360 died on them once. Even an elite. I am sure you guys won't believe me but this is the honest truth where i am and why i will never buy a x360 unless the PROD is fixed.

evrfighter5327d ago

technically all hardware is doomed to fail.

40cal5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

How many surveys will it take before these huge numbers are taken as fact?

Edit:
@cmrbe 1.12
I know your telling the truth because the same goes for where I'm at. Out of the dozen or so people I know that have or have had a 360 ALL of them have broken. RROD, disc read errors, E what ever the hell the latest one is called?

From a consumers stand point it is unacceptable.

gaffyh5327d ago

Well for me the failure rate is 200% because it failed on me twice.

Rofflecopter5327d ago

Out of my roommates and I, all three of us have had at least one 360 fail. One of us has had three failures (one within the warranty, launch console). Personally, I've had my PS3 fail on my once as well (stopped reading discs within the warranty period).

This is unacceptable, but the games are too good for me to stop playing..

Persistantthug5327d ago

There is a difference between doomed....

and TEH DOOOOOOOOMMMMMMED!!!!!

:P

Defectiv3_Detectiv35327d ago

MS just sucks w/ electronics. Its the same way w/ my zune. It cracks me up when people act as if there are only a certain number of 360's that share this flaw - the WHOLE design is flawed; all 360s will burn out eventually due to extended use.

Sure, there are those of us that have been lucky, and there are those of us who don't know how to take care of a console(to which it would have burnt out anyways) but fact of the matter is the 360 is prone to hardware failure through overheating.

The sad part is how easy it is to fix, just put a toothpick in the fans, overheat it for 15 min, and let it cool down for 15min. 70% of the time this will fix the box. Its the same thing you would do for a PC or even a PS3 if it were to burn out, basically resolder the connection.

ShadowCK5326d ago

Another trustworthy survey! I'm sure all those people who were interviewed were Xbox 360 owners and there were absolutely no viral Sony gangs who didn't corrupt that survey with their fan-boy stink.

*Sarcasm*

Can we not test the hard-ware and issue a report which confirms the actual failure rate of the Xbox 360 system instead of asking untrustworthy people ‘claiming’ to be Xbox 360 owners? Last year’s fail rate for the Xbox 360 was about 16% and I'm confident that it's failure rate is below 10% in 2009.

I have had one Xbox 360 for two years in my life-time and it has broken only once. You have to remember to take care of your system. Such as keeping it off the carpet, allowing plenty of air flow, cleaning it regularly, giving the system breaks and remembering to turn it upside down. If you are one of these lucky people who have the newer Xbox 360 models, particularly the new 60GB model introduced in July of 2008, then you will have a less likely chance to get red ring of death due to the system having better cooling systems than the previous models.

f7897905326d ago

You won't get that failure rate in Alaska.

Arnon5326d ago

Out of 3 people that I have interviewed including myself, we've had a total of no failure rates, thus meaning, that the failure rate is 0%.

Hurr. I love surveys.

cant you read ??
its 85%

LOOOOL
change your name to 85%

-GoldenTimeLover-5327d ago (Edited 5327d ago )

lol FiftyFourPointTwo. I can see it already. You're name is going to be "SeventyOne" and you're soon going to have a huge number 71 on your avatar just like your old avatar with a huge 54.2 in it. =))

MetalGearRising5327d ago

Anyone gonna do the YLOD Survey because everyone i had a word with say they've had YLOD and Sony's numbers don't actually add up i think more people are having YLOD than Sony is making out.

lokiroo4205327d ago

LMAO, FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

sunil5327d ago

Neither Sony nor Microsoft are going to release the actual numbers. Also YLOD and RROD are not the same thing

YLOD (per Sony) can be software glitch, over heating, bad ventilation or hardware problem

RROD - hardware problem

Dont think its right to compare YLOD and RROD

Personally I have experienced it, but my PS3 started back up again when I let it cool down for an hour or so...

I had accidentally covered its air vents :D

kissmeimgreek5327d ago

i gues im lucky. ive had my 360 since launch. zero problems and it still works perfectly. The best of luck to the rest of you.

IdleLeeSiuLung5327d ago

Now scurry away!!!

Seriously, I had mine for 2, wait almost 3 years now in November with no issues. Damn, that means my extended warranty was never needed.

Sunny_D5327d ago

I never try to brag about my ps3 lasting for so long, otherwise you can get jinxed! (doubt it)

kissmeimgreek5327d ago

im not trying to brag, im just trying to prove that not all 360s fail. mine might eventually but it seems fine right now.

JackBNimble5327d ago

It's kind of funny.... No one would buy a car and expect it to never break down, so why do people expect eletronics to last forever?

RockmanII75327d ago

I got RROD once and got it fixed in 2 weeks for free.

Inconvenience, yes
Life-changing, no

iHEARTboobs5327d ago

Oh yeah, spreading FUD.

Luckily mine hasn't died. But I do kinda expect it. Most of the people I know have had theirs die so I feel like i'm just waiting in line. On a side note, Trials HD is pretty sick.

iPirates5327d ago

This isn't a conclusive story, but does feature an interesting take on the RROD fiasco.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC9h ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Friendlygamer10h ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6029h ago(Edited 9h ago)

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya7h ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde7h ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

Used to love this one, but X-Men Legends 1 and 2 will always be my favorites, especially Rise of Apocalypse. Would pay some good money to play it today with online multiplayer, back then I had no way to get a modem

RavenWolfx7h ago

Yeah, I loved the Legends games so much.

ZeekQuattro14h ago

I remember buying them dirt cheap on the PS4 and then a few days later I read they were delisted. I was wondering why the bundle was price so low and got my answer when that happened.

Knightofelemia13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Sad to say this is one game franchise next to the Xmen that needs a sequel. I use to play the hell out of Xmen Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Was great when my cousin had the OG Xbox play with four other people and then playing online. Great games glad to see it reappear even though I own the discs love the mechanics of this game.

Terry_B12h ago

It got a sequel..but for dumbass #reasons as a switch exclusive.

shinoff218312h ago

It looked so horrible to. They should've kept it similar to the first two.

Asplundh12h ago

Because Nintendo funded it, they did the same for Bayonetta.

Knightofelemia12h ago

I totally forgot about the Switch sequel.

jukins12h ago

Misleading. This page is whats available for people who owned the game prior to delisting.

Abnor_Mal11h ago

The first game was the best imo.
