Sam Lake has such a cool voice. Anyways, the game looks like an amazing game all together with the really eerie presentation and gameplay.

The music is great as well. I just hope the game's out in spring like Remedy is planning on to release it.

I really don't understand what people are seeing in this. This looks like an other normal multiplat game to me. I also thought this was said to be an open world game and from that footage it's clear it's not.

I don't understand the fuss at all. I mean we just saw the in-game graphics and no bullshots and the texturing on clothing and hair looks all matted and low res. They only tried to bump it up on the main Xter figure but even that is nothing we've not seen since the start of the generation.

I'm sorry but this game has turned out to be like any other survival horror game we've seen many times before. If you can, please show me in this vid with it's time frames where it's doing things we've never seen done by many other multiplat games. I would love to be more educated on this so please help me out here cause I just don't see it.

I'm with Chubear on this one. I have no clue what people are seeing in this, graphically, gameplay, or storytelling-wise. I mean, it's good looking, not great. Gameplay seems to be action-oriented, but then anti-climactic in how it delivers the action. And the storytelling is freaking annoying since much of it is delivered by annoying narrator conversation as you game.

I hope more information is delivered that will change my mind, because so far I don't see what the hype is all about. And, yeah, I own a 360 and a couple of 360 games and I can't wait to play Mass Effect 2 on it.

Edit: I also can't see how you can compare this to RE5. RE5 was an okay game that's primarily same old action with a pretty crappy story due to being stretched beyond its limits due to the need to keep the franchise going. Alan Wake's storyline is definitely more immersive, I just don't think it's as good of a storyline as people are making it out to be, but more specifically that it is delivered in a manner that is as meaningful as it could be.

This game may not do anything revolutionary, but why does it need to?
Solid controls, good gameplay, and an engrossing, atmospheric story are all a game like this needs to be great. From what I can see in this video, the atmosphere looks good, though it is hard to judge the complete story from the little we know. The premise is interesting, and as long as they don't screw up the ending, I think the story will be good. I am definitely looking forward to picking up this game.

Anyone else think Alan Wake looks like a grittier Sam Lake?

Game looks awesome, great graphics, great gameplay, but most of all looks like a awesome and very interesting story line, this is definitely one of my most anticipated games next year, hell I remember a few months ago hoping and praying it would come out holiday 09. lol

I am a PS3 only owner...and I do think this game looks amazing...have since E3...

but I love Remedy...always have...MP 1 and 2 are some of the best single player games of all time imo...and if you played either, you can see how well Remedy handles gameplay mechanics...they don't always sound great on paper, and sometimes they don't look that great to watch...but when you actually play it, it all comes together perfectly...they are keeping some form of time mechanic in Alan Wake it appears (as stuff regularly slows way down), but the light aspect is awesome and new...

Visually...whatever...I am not going to debate all that crap anymore...no doubt its one of the best looking 360 games so far...it sure as hell is light years ahead of UE3 on every level, so 360 owners should be happy about that...but to anyone acting like its the second coming of console graphics or something...sorry...but no...its the most impressive lighting the 360 has pulled off yet, no doubt...but be realistic, it isn't setting any standards in any department visually...

This is really good for 360 owners,
BUT i do have to say that, Microsoft should have spend way more time and money on Alan Wake instead of RE5, Because in my Opinion, Alan Wake is everything that RE5 should have been in terms of GamePlay and Atmosphere.

But for some reason, RE5 just turned into some "OTHER" TPS instead of staying true to its roots. all that just to cater to a broader audience.

and the to the ps3 guys, no need to downplay the game, its not going to be perfect, but it looks very promising. I criticize Microsoft a lot, but this is a step in the right direction. Actually, I think that if 360 owners play this game and they really like it, then they should get a ps3 whenever they can, there are a lot of games on the ps3 that offer that unique ATMOSPHERIC and STORY DRIVEN feeling that ALAN WAKE is going for. Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted, MGS4, Uncharted 2, Heavenly Sword, Rachet and Clank, Siren Blood Curse are a few games on the ps3 that i can think of that create unique atmospheres and have compelling stories to keep you coming back. almost forgot GOW3.

I never said anything about Microsoft MAKING RE5, I said they spent TIME AND MONEY on it, like they do with MOST past Playstation Exclusives. I know I am a bit bias against MS, but it does seem to my that MS is perfectly happy with just offering Multiplaform games, and You guys, are perfectly happy treating them as exclusives. Microsoft have had so far, a very bleak year as far as EXCLUSIVE games are concerned, SO WHY aren't 360 gamers playing ALAN WAKE right now?

I think he's saying that M$ ruined Resident evil 5 because by going multi-platform (as if it never were) they change the type of game it was to cater to the larger audience of the 360. He's blaming M$ for Resident evil 5s absence of atmosphere in comparison to the older games.

What other games have Remedy made, this looks awesome but i don't know their history. The ways it's laid out is like a real movie, or a tv series because of its length (it's a game, movies are only 2hrs so it's more comparable to a tv series story) as mentioned in the video. The story sounds great like a really good writer worked on this.

FamilyGuy...Remedy made Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2...as well as a few others before iirc...

they are MASTERS of storytelling in games though...Rivaled only by Kojima himself imo...its not that the max payne games overall had the greatest story in video games, which it surely didn't...but the way they going about telling it, and the atmosphere and everything is completely awesome...

if you haven't played them...rent them if you can...they are still around at most movie rental places, at least MP 2 (much better than the first anyway)...

but Remedy is a small studio...very small...but I guarantee this game won't suck...this is a case where more money wouldn't have really done anything, as its a close group of guys that have worked together since the beginning...and more people probably would have helped the game much...so it goes with smaller studios that pump out awesome shat...they'll keep doing it, it just takes forever for them to finally release it...MP2 came out in like 2003 iirc...

They freaking blew me away, and I think the atmosphere contributed to it.

I think what stands out the most is the outstanding character models. When Alan is in the house talking to his friend, I was absolutely blown away by the detail on their clothing and facial features.

I also think that the camera angles they produce are absolutely genius. When it shows Rusty holding the gun up and it slowly comes into focus and he fires, it just put me on edge. When the villager was walking towards them with the two axes, it made me think of a thriller movie. From the looks of things, they made a perfect thriller.

Yeah the graphics do need some work. Although I love the atmosphere and it seems like it will have good direction and a good story, I don't see why people are hyping up the graphics. the main gameplay mechanic is using light against your enemies...so don't expect this to be a 'bright' game for the most part, other than cut scenes and stuff...most of the action will probably be very doom 3 like...which invovles a lot of squinting probably...

not bad if that is what you are in to...but I agree, I don't really see where everyone is making such a big deal out of the visuals...the character models do look impressive, but not overly so imo...and for being so 'open world', everything shown so far looks pretty linear...

either way...the game will still rock...the lighting engine seems pretty powerful, which is great for 360 owners as they have been fed UE3...and therefor atrocious lighting, for almost 3 years now...but I am not seeing some visual masterpiece that everyone was screeming about for years...it looks great, but looks to have much more stress on atmosphere and storytelling over everything else...

That thing has nothing out of the ordinary at all. If you're impressed by the graphics then that means you only game on a 360 cause the PS3 has been doing these graphics since year one.

The only thing the SDF can mention is KZ2, KZ2, KZ2 with everything. A game that had 80 mln. dollar thrown in to achieve a graphical style close to the E3 2005 trailer but for that money delivered a very generic game. And the POS3 fantards can only mention that.

I own a PS3 and a 360, man....and I play Killzone 2 and Gears 2 all the time so I have plenty of experience with both...and I'll tell you...sometimes I'm not even convinced that Killzone 2 looks better. Gears 2 has better textures, sharpness and clarity...Killzone 2 has better lighting and effects...it really just comes down to which look you prefer...but yeah, the differences in overall graphics are minor.

well the graphics look to be on par with Mass Effect 2 but the story seems good.

KZ2 doesn't seem linear when your ACTUALLY playing it (which haven't done) and Uncharted 2 you know that part of the E3 demonstration where Drake stands on top of a building and looks down at the rest of the city yeah N have created every ally and street I that game for a flippin reason, they even said that a player could move forward taking multiple roots hence why they created the entire city and not just one road like in Alan wake.

The amount of hype and support this game is getting from MS, the developers behind it and basically all signs point to this being a great game, but your making it look like you KNOW this is the second coming. To this is I say STFU and hold your tongue until its out, it may be the best game in 2010, it may not. GoW III Ma be just as good if not better, same goes for Heavy Rain, MAG, GT5 etc.

One game can hardly beat a whole library of games btw, unless its got infinite replayability and the best gameplay ever seen, and I doubt it'll be that good.

But aside from that this game will still be a hit regardless of the graphics, and I know it may seem premature to pass judgement on this game but judging from the devps and support this game is getting, not to mention the hype. But others we have yet to see, like water effects, lighting, weather, polygon count on characters, depth of field(however judging from what we've seen alan wake has the edge).

Uncharted 2 on the other hand looks better than Alan Wake, the amount of detail in Uncharted 2 is unprecedented, the water effect, the lighting, the scale is just atounding.

This does NOT (and I stand by this) mean Uncharted 2 will be a better game, only time will tell which is better (NOT sales!!! for god sakes sales do not mean that a game is good).

I really liked this trailer. It gave a sense at what the mood and atmosphere is for Alan Wake. But people, keep in mind that this is not a horror game. Alan Wake is not suppose to scare you. This is a [psychological] action [thriller]. Thrillers offer more to narration than what you see in horror games. Strong narration from thrillers such as the movies, Memento, Fight Club, and Insomnia, give a sense of stronger elements of mental danger... Not usually physical.

As you can see from the trailer, Alan reads a part of his manuscript. From that perspective, it gives you a thrill to what will happen in the following sequence. Basically, Alan Wake tends to use a lot of Foreshadowing. If you have been following Alan Wake for some time, Alan seems to have the condition, insomnia (Writer's block still defines Alan's condition though). If you mix in movies
like Fight Club and Memento, you can see that Alan has no purpose in life without Alice. He needs to find her to at least "sleep again" (Which basically derives from the play on words "A.Wake" or "Awake").... Tyler durden (Main character in Fight Club) buys stuff that he does not need to make himself happy. And he goes to these group therapy meetings so he can have an emotional release so he can "sleep" again (And thus relieves his insomnia) .

With the Conditions combined with Alan Wake and Leonard Shelby (Main character in Memento) you can see that Leonard takes pictures of certain things so he can remember them. Because he suffers from anterograde amnesia (Which is a memory loss condtion). I hope you guys know where I went with that. I hope my disection of psychological thriller helped you guys. :)

This... Alan Wake in my opinion is going to be the best story driven I will ever play. Sam Lake is a brilliant writer. I can't wait!

The game is not very graphically impressive at all. Watch the video again, and compare it to...I guess Gears 2? Seriously.

Poor shadows, plenty of low res looking stuff, characters are woody and don't move well. Animation looks like stock standard clips, doesn't blend, etc... SERIOUSLY, I mean come on...

I will say though, the light vs dark gameplay element looks awesome. Once the video got to that point where it showed the action oriented gameplay, I think it looks great. I'll definintely be playing it.

Don't get me wrong - the game doesn't HAVE TO BE graphically the best - it can still have atmosphere and great gameplay, and it just may, but seriously it was touted as the next big graphical masterpiece and it just isn't.
