WarDevil for Xbox 360 Not Cancelled

- Remember WarDevil? The post-apocalyptic game was originally slated as a multiplatform release way back when, but then the Xbox 360 version was scrapped so the development team, Digi-Guys, could focus on one platform. But then the game went into hiding for several years until, well, now.

Great news that the game is still in development. It had become vaporware at this point but it was one of the games I was looking forward to on PS3. I am on of those people who believe that a single platform focus makes for great games. Look at what we've seen recently of Infamous and Uncharted 2 on the PS3 and what we've seen of Splinter Cell Conviction and Alan Wake.

What have you seen that makes you excited? Nothing about this game has a history. The developer that is supposedly work on this game has never made a game before, and the publisher has only localized a few PSP and DS games from Japan. There is the CGI trailer, but what does that mean?

It's supposed to release with a movie but we have heard nothing of that either. We haven't seen them at E3 or any other trade show either. Until I get some gameplay, this game is vaporware.

Even today multiplats aren't "pretty much identical". I've compared quite a few recent games and the 360 is still coming out ahead. Recent comparisons and face offs from Digital Foundry, Lens of Truth and others show the same thing. But never mind, you guys will just deny it to the ends of the earth.

I never understood what the hype over this game was either. Especially with people talking like "omg this is a must-have, one of the most awesome games ever" (well, I kinda understood it from some. being as there are some of those extreme fanboys that will hype anything when it's allegedly exclusive). But for the others, I never saw the appeal of this. I'll wait til I actually see the game before making up my mind on whether it's even worth considering.

There is a vast difference between being hyped for this game over a CGI trailer and being hyped over FF14 or Versus because of a CGI trailer. Square and Final Fantasy are established names with big followings. WarDevil and Digi-guys have done nothing and nobody knows anything about them. So really, it's the name that has people hyped for FFVersus and 14, not the CGI trailer. This game has only the trailer though, with no name to back it.

But yea, I'll consider this to be vaporware still until they actually show something as proof.

It is different. We know who is making Final Fantasy, the developer has a long distinguished history of titles. The director of FFv13 is the same guy who did Kingdom Hearts. Final Fantasy has been one of the most consistent franchises in gaming.

WarDevil has nothing that points to it being a good game. If I saw some gameplay that looked fun then I'd agree with you and I'd look forward to this, as well. But we know nothing of the developer and the publisher has a very weak history.

What other then a CGI trailer gets you so exited for this game?

Frankly, I'll believe the game exists when I see something real-like gameplay five years after the project was first announced(as a multiplatform at the time as well). My friend applied for a job on the game when advertised in Jan this year and never even got a reply(he'd been working on a couple of PS3 games and has since gone to work for R* in Leeds and was very qualified for the Digiguys posting)which he said is very odd at that level-he felt they were either looking for more funding by postig the ads or he was completely overlooked as his application was lost at their end.

I must say that the announcement today seems like they must have got some cash from somewhere but still when we haven't had any actual news in ages or ever seen gameplay I wouldn't get too excited. I've wasted too much time researching the game only to come up with nothing but broken promises and odd practises that I doubt we'll ever see the game. Announcing it for 360 again only, imo, means another set of games will get the run around. There's little to suggest we'll seee anything ever-let alone soon!

Not only that, but the CGI wasn't very good. Notice how the protagonist (I assume) trust the weapon into the guy laying on the floor in the teaser video. The speed that it does it at looked weird, not to mention the movement look awkward.

Now it might be too early, and you should judge the game until some game play is released, but that teaser didn't tease me much, rather turn me off.

Take it from me (and I doubt IGN have looked into this much more than me-after all what they've done here is just respond to a press release which is ALL you ever get to hear about the game)there's VERY little reason to feel we'll see this on any platform soon. Do you think IGN were lying when it was just a PS3 game? Why hasn't that ever appeared in any playable form? The game was announced before either 360 or PS3 were launched and has been slated for release every year since 2007!

I suspect the dev to have posted non existent positions to allay fears the project was dead and feel our only hope of getting the game rests on whether they managed to get some cash from somewhere as it all reeks of a small dev being over ambitious and getting into difficulties. PS3 is the reason it's not out running the way it was suppose to when they showed it running on PC and wanted it for 360 back in the day.

The PS3 version will be running at 30 FPS with lower resolution. Developers always talk sh*t when they get in fights with Microsoft and go to Sony(fights about wanting to use more discs)

Bioshock 2 will look better than Bioshock. The first game came out on the 360 and PC and looked great. Then they did a port to the PS3 and it didn't look quite as good. But Bioshock 2 is being developed on all 3 platforms simultaneously. We already saw a screenshot comparison and Bioshock 2 looked better than Bioshock.

in this games because of the RTE1080 engine they were building for it. Everytime i saw an article about it i was interested to see any progress only to be dissapointed with the same trailer and screenshots from two,three years ago.

I've been hoping to see something since they told IGN to look for the new site and something exciting Q1 this year! If the "exciting" bit was it going back to not existing on two consoles instead opf one I can't see any winners here!

They said it themselves that the game was cancelled because they built a 'True 1080p' 60fps engine which could only run on the PS3 and NOT on the 360. The 360 can only do upscaled 1080p and NOT 'TRUE! 1080p and how on earth could they have made the engine work with the 360 when the game is slated to release in the next 4 months?

IGN didn't "confirm" a damn thing!!! They did what all journalists do half the time and take what they are given and right now that's the word of a bunch of devs who haven't shown barely a hair on the head of whatever the hell they are/are not working on nor have they updated that crap teaser site with more than a couple of shots of non-gameplay footage for at least the last two years... on top of it all, it was said that this was supposedly from the ground up with a "unique" engine designed specifically to take advantage of the PS3's capabilities, i.e. designed to run at 60 fps and 1080p...

It sounds like they know their ruse is dying so they decided to go ahead and reignite things a bit by saying, "oh, uh, yeah it's coming on 360 and it will be simultaneously released too!"

PS, "coming soon" is NEVER more than a year in anyone's opinion... they've been tooting that horn since we heard about the game in, what, 2005? Coming Soon, in the next decade or so!!!

Either that or it is being released on the 360 now to maximize the early profit. The game is probably crap, but since it won't cost much to get it ported to the 360, they will try to make as much as possible the first week before the word gets out.

For the people that think the 360 will downgrade this than you should be lucky the crap is still listed as coming out. Considering it was announced 3 years ago, if it isn't finished, they made a mistake doing it for the PS3 in the first place. If they had done it for the 360 exclusively, it would have released this year. Screw a console that only allows you to get two games done each generation. And the games still barely sell.

Large portion of 360 titles = PC games ported to 360, i.e. development times reduced immensely, no advantage provided directly by 360. Uncharted dev time 2-3 years (majority of work done in latter 2 years), Uncharted 2: 2 years, et cetera. Further analysis indicates Xbot incapable of logic, permission to wipe, approved.

Uncharted done by a in-house studio that has had more time and more support than a third party developer. It should take them less time to develop their games. Building hype for a forgotten game is the reason to announce it might still be made for the 360. If the company gets the sense that people are interested again, they port it cheap and steal as much money for a crap game as they can before people realize it's crap.

i mean back then ya people were saying its going to be awesome based on the little info that was available then.

Now its not so much the case of fans saying the game is going to be crap now, but more a case of people questioning if its going to be a game at all !

And while this seems good news for 360 fans, even they at this point are of the same general opinion. Before anyone on any side gets excited or claims this and that, i think we all want to see some actual evidence that this is indeed a real working game.

We we have had so far talk, talk and more talk from the devs.

This game has the same weight as Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, and more...

with the long wait for the titles, they have a lot of hype riding on them to not be failures of titles...

Its crap like this, a game that's been in development hell since before the 360 or PS3 were out, that no one really knows nothing about yet expect to be "The One" and carry on like idiots, that convinces me that this console gen is a bust. This and FFXIII.

Meh, Section 8 looks like any other FPS, seems to only have one enemy type that consist of units similar to your side, and yet 360 fans became overly thrilled when it went exclusive.

first what has section 8 got to do with this ? second which 360 fans were hyping it because it's exclusive ? I mean one or two people may have thrown it up just to say ha ha, but on a real note i have not come across any 360 fans boasting about it or hyping it or anything.

I mean your correct section 8 looks about as average and generic as 80% of all the other crap. As far as 360 fans and shooters go, i think you will find many are still looking forward to halo odst and modern warfare 2.

As for Wardevil, when it was first shown, even though we didn't see much there was something about it that just struck a cord. now though they need to show us something or get lost !

I was really impressed when i first heard about this game and when i heard it was no longer multiplat and exclusive to ps3 it was one of the reasons i strongly considered getting the ps3.

wright now i am really starting to believe that it is just smoke and mirrors.

I think its crunch time, the dev's should put up or shut up !

it reminds me of that Wii game sadness, that was supposed to revolutionise emotional game play on the Wii.

that was annouced as a launch game and still hasnt seen the light of day.

i dont hold out much hope for either game at the moment.

Personally, I thought the CG trailer did look interesting. It really set of the setting and mood of the game. It looks like a really wicked good sci fi god of war game which I am all about getting. I could care less that this is going multiplat...as long as they don't end up raping the game like they did Rage (just so the 360 could get it to)!

its a real engine on ps3, the "cgi" you saw was the ingame engine, and there is no 360 version, unless you can find it on the wardevil site, digi guys isnt an unknown developer, they just havent made a game before til now, they are movie developers, so there would be no reason for them to work with 360

Will wait for actual info on the game before getting excited though.
