Did Prototype on the 360 Really Trump the PS3 Sales Numbers?

With the NPD sales numbers for June recently coming to light, a jumping point was discovered: Prototype for the 360 outsold the PS3 version two-to-one.

The sales figures seemed to point to the fact that the 360 was more popular than the PS3 - but are the June game sales numbers an accurate indicator of console popularity? Terminal Gamer looks at the NPD sales numbers and also investigates just why the 360 version of Prototype, June's best-selling game, outsold that of its PS3 counterpart two-to-one.

The sales of this game on the xbox360 are not surprising.

DragonWarrior_45387d ago

I was just thinking that my man. Bubbles.

Mike134nl5387d ago

No matter which game is the better one, developers will be taking notice on the sale numbers if infamous would have also launched on the xbox 360 they would have made a lot of extra cash.

At the end of the day they will need the money for the liquidity of their company, new games and ofcourse to pay their employees.

Darkeyes5387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

Those who had a choice, went for Infamous since it was the better game off the 2. If Prototype would have launched at any other time (without Infamous), then it would have sold something above 350000 on the PS3 since the people who bought Infamous would definitely have gone for Prototype. Those numbers are much better if you look at the ratio of PS3 and 360 in NA....

But I would any day pick up Infamous over Prototype if I had a choice. The game is truly awesome.

kewlkat0075387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

"If this guy didn't buy game A then he/she, would of chosen game B" Well that's all speculative. The Ps3 had both games and yes, some had a choice to make.

IMO, if it was just Prototype out on both platforms, the xbox 360 would of sold more than the Ps3 version(With Piracy).

Now put Infamous on the xbox 360, then we can really see the facts or spin them.

Most well know multiplatform franchises have been popular on the Ps brand and sometimes manages to outsell it's xbox 360 counterpart. With piracy, I think the Xbox 360 would still sell more with some of these new multiplatform games.

Another spin, the Xbox 360 has a bigger library with more games to choose from, so looking at other hot sellers on the chart, for the month, you could come up with which console sold the most individual software, on the chart, which also splits and takes sales away from Xbox 360 Prototype.

So in essence, the Xbox 360 has Game A, B, C, D on the chart that takes sales from whatever multiplatform game you wanna throwout.

Rainstorm815387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

I think Prototype was overhyped because of Infamous.

If Infamous was never made X360 sites and fanboys wouldnt have needed a game to compete with it. The lack of exclusive games on X360 made Prototype the obvious game to compare to Infamous.

Justification???? Look at the sales for Incredible Hulk on X360 & PS3 a very SIMILAR game made by the same company. No One Cared for it. Add a lil bit of gore a extra powers now its a triple A title. Just like when so many fanboys were compairing Saints Row 1 to GTA San Andreas LOL

I'll take Infamous Thank you. Pass on BUYING Prototype.

Edit @ above people

Everyone who said put Infamous on Xbox360 to see the sales proves my point. If Prototype is the better game why speak in hypethcals about it being on Xbox360 when you have "the better game".

StanLee5387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

This article makes no sense and really is stupid. It makes no consideration for the fact that their are PS3 owners who bought both! Yes, there are PS3 owners who actually buy games. Even if you combined the sales of both Infamous and Prototype on the PS3 saying gamers chose one or the other, Prototype on the Xbox 360 still outsold both games on the PS3 by 30K plus. The article, its premise and title, makes no sense.

Raf1k15387d ago

If I remember right, there was also advertising going on for Prototype while I don't remember seing anything for Infamous.

A TV ad for Infamous showing in game footage would have definitely helped.

Information Minister5387d ago

You're missing the point. If Infamous was available on the 360, then Prototype would have sold a lot less. Would Infamous have been more successful if it was multi-platform? Of course it would, but then again so would Gears of War/Killzone 2/Left 4 dead/insert-exclusive-game-her e.

FamilyGuy5387d ago

As a matter of FACT I bought InFamous instead of Prototype. If prototype had come out in like January or February I would have bought that game.

It's as simple as that.

Many people, who own PS3s, interested in the genre or type of game these two are made a choice to pick one over the other. It's not an assumption or an opinion it's a fact. Just look at the old comments regaring the two games. "i'll get this but probably rent that" "i'll see which one has better reviews" "i'll just get this because the other doesn't look as good"
"I'll get InFamous because PS3 exclusives blow multi-plats out the water"

raztad5387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

@stan

You are not making sense bro. Look again at you own comment w/o any fanboy google. You are bragging about 30K copies of difference come on, when the ratio between installed bases is 2.x:1

Besides, Infamous was out the final week of may (may 26) and it got a lot of sales that are not even considered in this analysis.

StanLee5387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

I'm not bragging about anything. The article supposes PS3 gamers in the month of June chose Infamous or Prototype and gave no consideration to the fact the some gamers bought both. If we're going to make assumptions lets suppose that the 190,000 persons who bought Infamous in May bought Prototype in June. Or speculate that Infamous even being exclusive didn't resonate with fans on the console as it almost evenly split sales with Prototype at 192K and 191K respectively. We can make suppositions to make the numbers mean anything we want it to. Did Prototype on XBox 360 trump the PS3 sales of the game? The answer is a resounding, yes! Did Prototype on the XBox 360 outsell both Infamous and Prototype on the PS3 in the month of June? Again, yes. Making suppositions to argue both is stupid. The fact remains. You talk about install bases, well, the total software sales of the 4 XBox 360 games totalled over 1.2 million. PS3 games in the top 10 total less than a third of that amount. Are we to assume the XBox 360s install base is 3 times that of the PS3? The article is stupid, plain and simple.

darthv725387d ago

Prototype may as well been an exclusive to the 360. It seemed obvious that the majority of PS3 gamers would be picking up Infamous instead. To see the sales of the 360 version is no surprise given there was no other choice in the matter.

LoVeRSaMa5387d ago

People seem to forget that NPD is America, and that they own the Xbox 2 to 1 over the PS3 there.

So what can we expect from multiplat games....

I want to see world results before the fanboys come to try and justify there buys.

Smokzdaizm5387d ago

I bought Infamous for my PS3 and I LOVED IT... I bought Prototype for my 360 and it ROCKS... I think preference is cubjective, but right now I'm Loving Prorotype more

N4Flamers5387d ago

currently infamous in the ps3 has sold 630k and prototype on the 360 680k. that is not to mention that prototype on the ps3 has sold 425k. I used vg charts, and those numbers make sense.

infamous is slightly lower than the 360 version = it came out later in the month and some people bought prototype.

prototype on ps3 is lowest = most people bought infamous.

if you combine the numbers of infamous and prototype on ps3 the outsell prototype on 360 duh = 2 games to one, and some people bought both.

I played both and im glad i bought infamous. its clear when the game came out most ps3 owners were wwaiting to get infamous.

MegaMohsi5387d ago

"inFamous being exclusive doesn't resonate with fans because sales were even for the month"...Ok I guess you conveniently left out the 175k the game sold in June (377k total) putting its totals well over Prototype PS3 and near the totals of 360 Prototype, with half the install base but of course a fanboy like yourself would tend to forget something like that. If you wanna add the extra 2 weeks that inFamous was out prior to Prototype, go ahead. No way the PS3 version sells another 180k in 2 weeks nor the 360 version sell that much more.

BLuKhaos5387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

I actually have a friend who chose Prototype over Infamous but then again the monkey thinks CODW@W is better that COD4 so I guess it makes sense. There should be law against letting kids with down syndrome play games.

ultimolu5387d ago

Is Infamous a better game?

Yes it is.

Sales don't dictate the greatness of a game.

dragunrising5387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

It is a little bit assumptive that Infamous buyers would "definitely" buy Prototype. Why? Infamous is the game that is supposed to be the AAA exclusive that outsells everything else for the month. If anything, sales of Infamous were hurt by the release of Prototype on the PS3. If Prototype is such an inferior game to Infamous, why would PS3 owners even bother with it?

Bottom line: Infamous is the "arguably" better game, and as such, sales of Prototype are lost sales to Infamous...not the other way around.

sparta765387d ago

If crackdown2 came out same time as prototype, and ps3 sold more of prototype would we still see this type of bullsh&t articles?
I wonder.....

Megan Fox5387d ago

@ people saying infamous is better.

Infamous wasn't that good in my opinion, the game didn't have any replay value, there wasn't any reason for me to go back to the game once i finished.

SaberEdge5387d ago

Well it's true that PS3 owners had to choose between two games of the same type and the install base in North America is much smaller for the PS3 than the 360, so I don't think the numbers are surprising.

Just enjoy your games people. Does all this sales analysis make you happier gamers? I used to get into this fanboy crap, but it is just stupid. Both consoles are good and they are made to be enjoyed, not analyzed and fought over. I'm not trying to say I am better than anybody, because I am as guilty of it as anybody. But I like both of my consoles and I have realized that putting out so much negativity into the world is not a good thing.

Syronicus5387d ago

I bought inFAMOUS and rented Prototype. Had Proto for about a week and sent that trash back. Sorry, but after playing inFAMOUS, Prototype was just "blah".

- IMHO

Blogz4Fanboys5387d ago (Edited 5387d ago )

to those that are claiming that infamous is the better game: did you actually buy both to come up with that statement? or is it the usual fanboy rubbish? or was because some reviewers said so, even though reviews and meta critic dont count rite????

anyway, i only got infamous! why? because the demo was top-notch, the graohics were pretty decent, and for me it was an unmissable title. i didnt get prototype because for now infamous is enough, and i've still got a shed load to finish on ps3 360. but i will eventually pick up prototype for the 360 though.

mike134nl: looking at your comment then seeing the 16 disagrees just shows how pathetic alot of the community are on here....bubbles up for being sensible, whilst the 16 idiotic disagreers should just throw yourselves from a tall building you pathetic wastes of oxygen.

BLuKhaos5387d ago

I didn't buy both but I did play both and Infamous is the better game imo.As soon as I get some cash together I'm going to buy Infamous.

silvacrest5387d ago

thats your opinion, i couldnt even bring my self to finish prototype let alone play it twice where as i played infamous twice, good and evil

in fact i wouldnt even no why i would play prototype again, i cant think of an incentive

Traveler5387d ago

Why are they singling out one game? The 360 has around double the installed base in North America and many games sell well over 50% as much on the PS3, which is the percentage you would expect them to sell based on the installed base of the two consoles. With an installed base half that of the 360 you would expect multiplatform games on the PS3 to sell half of what they sell on the 360. Nevertheless, we often see multiplatform games sell well more than half as much on the PS3.

Look at June's NPD numbers (which covers North America only). You have games like Fight Night Round 4 selling relatively similar amounts on the two consoles despite the fact that the 360 has double the installed base to sell to.

FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 (360) 260.8K
FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 (PS3) 210.3K

If you were going by the amount of consoles in people's homes you would expect the PS3 version to sell 130.4 thousand copies, not 210.3 thousand. This isn't just an isolated event either. We see sales ratios like this quite often.

Look at a game like UFC 2009

360 UFC 2009 UNDISPUTED 338,278
PS3 UFC 2009 UNDISPUTED 187,895

Again, if you were going by the relative installed bases of the two consoles you would expect the PS3 version to sell only 169,139. Instead, it sold 187,895. Which means that it sold to a higher percentage of PS3 owners in North America than it did on the 360.

Here are some others:

360 GHOSTBUSTERS: THE VIDEO GAME 192,298
PS3 GHOSTBUSTERS: THE VIDEO GAME 103,413

360 RESIDENT EVIL 5 25,796
PS3 RESIDENT EVIL 5 23,267

360 FIFA SOCCER 09 25,431
PS3 FIFA SOCCER 09 21,209

360 BLAZBLUE: CALAMITY TRIGGER 28,905
PS3 BLAZBLUE: CALAMITY TRIGGER 36,570 (PS3 actually outsold 360)

360 TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 10 133,32
PS3 TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 10 96,539

360 CALL OF DUTY 4: MODERN WARFARE GOTY ED 71,175
PS3 CALL OF DUTY 4: MODERN WARFARE GOTY ED 37,149

360 TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN 58,829
PS3 TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN 35,351

360 X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE UNCAGED ED 30,878
PS3 X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE UNCAGED ED 22,359

All of these numbers are from the June 2009 NPD. The 360 versions of multiplatform games should be consistently selling twice as much as the PS3 versions since there are supposedly twice as many 360s in people's homes in North America, but they're not. There are some games that sell more than twice as much on the 360, but more often than not we see the PS3 versions selling more than half as much, which proves that the PS3 is a very healthy platform.

Looking at one single game is pointless. Especially when there is a very sensible explanation for why sales were abnormally low for the PS3 version of Prototype.

starchild5387d ago

The bigger question is, why is a mediocre game like Prototype the top selling game of the month on the 360? Hmm...could it have anything to do with the fact that there has been hardly any good games on the 360 this year and people are desperate to play any half decent game? I think so.

Grandizer5387d ago

duh! I saw the title and thought InFamous before clicking the link, what morons write these articles?

jessupj5387d ago

I think there's another reason the 360 had such high sales of porototype and this reason is also the biggest. It's been quite a while since there has been anything decent released for the 360. So when a game like prototype comes out of course gamers are going to jump at it.

Ps3 on the other hand has had a steady release of quality titles. So no doubt ps3 owners have to pick and choose and for some infamous got left out. The 360 alwas has more games in the top 10 software listing, and this is partly the reason why.

A lot of us like to pretend sales don't matter, and I really wish they didn't. Of course the sales didn't have any affect of the awesome time I had with infamous, but it does probably mean we're going to see less quality exclusives. Bas sales mean gamers lose.

I hope the 360 version doesn't trump the PS3 version because if it did the PS3 version would suddenly be no fun what so ever and I'd never play it. /sarcasm.

Nineball21125387d ago

LOL! Thank you for adding the /sarc tag.

Ya never know with the bunch on here. That might actually be how some feel... :D

YourCall5387d ago

First off, this is the first time I have ever read someone reaching so far cross the table for straws to make themselves feel better.

Basically, people are now taking two different games on multi-plat and one exclusive and trying to combind them due to their likeness, which is desperate and pathetic. Folk the excuses are really begining to become just plain stupid.

Here another twist, being that imfamous was an "exclusive" and is also tauted by PS3 fans as being "the better game", Why would all PS3 fans looking at these games choose Infamous? Additionally, the 360 version of prototype beat the PS3 version of prototype combined with infamous (a PS3 exclusive). That says two things, one is the PS3 fanbase likes to hype games and talk sh!t, but they won't spin any money. Second, the 360 version did extremely well to beat both of them combined on the PS3.

It really baffles my how the writer of this artice would even have to balls to try and claim this the sells are about even because the PS3 had a like title therefore we should combine the sells figures. How stupid is that.

Wait, perhaps both developers with combind their money and split it down the middle since their games were similar (They're really are that similar either, maybe in game type but so are many shooters, should we start to combind shooter sells also?)

MegaMohsi5387d ago

I love how you're forgetting the 175k that inFamous sold in May, making its NA totals almost identical to the 360 version ALONE, add that to the Prototype totals and the PS3 games sold more combined, face it PS3 exclusives sell stop with your fanboy logic it doesnt work.

YourCall5387d ago

Oh, so now you want to add in the month of may numbers to compete with the June 360 prototype numbers? Wow, the blind leading the blind.

PS3 gamers had a choice, 360 gamers didnt. I choose infamouse over prototype. It's no surprise prototype sold more on the 360. No surprise.

MajestieBeast5387d ago

I bought Infamous because they gave you a demo before with prototype they didnt and ididnt wanna spend 60 bucks on a game thats repetetive or something.

Admiral_Benson5387d ago

Agreed. It was all about having a choice in the first place and the demo that sealed it for me.

I played the Infamous demo and loved it, instant purchase.

No Prototype demo had me a little suspect so rented it first and was glad i did, not a terrible game by any means but wasn't worth laying out another £40 when you've got Infamous sitting there begging to be played.

PLAYINB3YOND5387d ago

The better games ,on the most part, don't get the highest sales which is a shame. inFamous deserves to sell millions just becuase of the effort you can see the devs put into the game, the game still amazes me on my third playthrough, i'm lovin' it!

bobdog6265387d ago

If inFamous was on both system it would have sold twice as much. Most people buy the PS3 for it's Bluray aspect first and it's gaming aspect second.I Sell Electronic's and the first thing people want is a Bluray player with there new LCD Tv .

Nineball21125387d ago

^^^ Right and of course people would rather spend $400 on a ps3 JUST for it's blu-ray capability rather than spend half that on a stand alone player.

Makes a TON of sense... /sarc

mastiffchild5387d ago

Yeah, maybe that was, like, half an issue for people buying a BR pklayer that also like games a couple of years ago but not now. Even back then I can't see many choosing a PS3 as just a BR player-anyone with half a brain would've known to wait a few months til BR player went down in price like DVD and VCR before them.

Also proving anything with US only data is impossible. We don't know for sure what the install bases are as with the 360 fail rate they might be closer than reported yet you cannot ignore the fact that the 360 install is still higher-but these people do! Then what of piracy on the 360? Also IF PS3 fans do tend to get a few BR films wouldn't it be wise to look at that months releases to see if they may have impacted(E.g someone may have got their urban superhero fix the previous mint with inFAMOUS and felt they'd ratheer get a film this month instead of another similar game)on PS3 sales of P'type.

Another thing-how many PS360 gamers got the PC/pirated the PC version of P'type(perhaps more PS3 gamers as they had inFAMOUS to buy, an d not pirate, the same or last month)rather than buy it for their console of chice? How did that affect sales?

More importantly what about the big portion of world outside the US? Or are NPD the only numbers that count these days? How could anyone pick anything of any substance out of that mess?

The inFamous games deserve more love from Sony

The inFamous games are an important part of PlayStation history, but the series is in limbo and playing older entries isn't exactly easy.

Would like remasters of 1 and 2. I enjoyed them much more than Second Son.

1 & 2 had more of an emphasis on climbing and the traversal requires a bit more effort in a good way. It was rewarding. Second Son made climbing mostly obsolete so they put little effort into it. The traversal was just great in inFamous 1 & 2. There's a reason Sunset Overdrive copied and improved upon the induction grind mechanic.

Reminds me of how I felt about the decline of parkour and the well designed tombs (basically Prince Of Persia levels) that we saw in the Assassin's Creed games.

The story and atmosphere were also much better in 1 & 2.

Electricity is just a brilliant superpower for an open world city. It perfectly fits just like webslinging does in New York and it has many applications.

Cacabunga61d ago

For sure.. one of my favorite Sony licenses

Shane Kim61d ago

Loved one and two. I actually liked the story as well.

Minute Man 72161d ago

The standalone DLC was a sweet

jznrpg61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

I enjoyed Second Son but it was too short. The first 2 were great though

-Foxtrot61d ago

Second Son was alright but didn't touch the first two games

It felt short and lacking in comparison

Also I really thought Reggie would have made a better protagonist, someone who is anti-conduit as much as him and ends up becoming one would have been interesting to see. I kind of enjoyed his character throughout the game as his development.

badz14960d ago

why is it right now, the thing I want the most from Sony is to release remasters of inFamous (1,2 & SS), KZ (1,2 & 3), Resistance (RFoM, 2 and 3) and Motorstorm (1,2 & 3)??

The_Hooligan60d ago

All great choices. I would like to add Warhawk/Starhawk to that. The multiplayer in Warhawk was amazing. I am surprised Sony hasn't looked into MAG either. That game was ahead of its time.

Maybe Sony should make an internal studio like Bluepoint games and all they do is remake/remaster these amazing games, even going back to PS1,PS2,PSP, Vita portfolio. And because of the recent articles suggesting cost cutting, budget issues and releasing more games on PC, they could do that with these remakes/remasters. Do a day one on PC and PS5. At the end of the day Sony or any other company is going to do what makes them the most money.

Wouldn't the onus be on the consumers? If they bought the Infamous games, then we'd have more games from that series.

KwietStorm_BLM61d ago

Infamous has sold millions of units. People have been asking for more. They aren't interested. Just like people have been asking for more Resistance or even a remaster collection, but insomniac isn't revisiting that either. Likely never getting a new sequel since they're a Marvel studio now.

LucasRuinedChildhood61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

No. Infamous was successful. But after a few entries (which are taking longer to make these days) a lot of Sony studios move on to new IPs. That's not a bad thing at all. They don't need to make inFamous games forever, just like we didn't need new Sly Cooper games forever.

But people would like to be able to easily play them on current hardware which is reasonable. Same for Killzone, Resistance, MGS4, etc. Good games shouldn't be trapped on old hardware. It's good that Bluepoint ported Uncharted 1-3.

kpgs61d ago

I'm not saying it wasn't successful. I enjoyed playing all 3 entries and DLC. But like you said, people move on, studios move on. But I don't think I've heard people asking for more Infamous in a long time.

Profchaos61d ago

The franchise was popular we got quite a few games but Suchet punch wanted to beach out I think that's why we got ghost of Tsushima over infamous 4

Tbh ghost is a fantastic game I'm not complaining about that but I'd love to see infamous handled by another team

jznrpg61d ago

Id take GoT2 over Infamous right now but after GoT2 or maybe 3 if they go trilogy I’d like a new Infamous.

badz14960d ago

that's the problem with Sony that puzzles me A LOT! they have studios specifically specialized in remastering and remaking old games for new gen hardware, but we are getting very few of them. SoTC, Uncharted collections, Demon's Souls Remake, TLoU Part 1...and?? that's it? why aren't they giving their old games new lease of life on the PS5 for the new generations of gamers to enjoy? they clearly have the expertise. for god sake, I can even accept lazy porting like Nintendo are doing for theirs if I have to.

FinalFantasyFanatic60d ago

There are a lot of games that consumers have been asking Playstation for, Playstation won't do it, so a lot of these developers have gone and made it themselves by any means possible such as Kickstarter (e.g. Armed Fantasia, Penny Blood, Ratatan, 100 Heroes, ect...). Developers have even asked if Sony could help them out with porting/remasters some of these older games for Playstation, they said no.

Crows9060d ago (Edited 60d ago )

Um...dude like you say that as if nobody bought them....the devs went on to do ghosts after 3 infamous games....3

People ask for new resistance and new infamous at every moment where it makes sense to mention it.

Having a remake of 1 and 2 would be very welcomed I'm sure.

I would love to see a new game but a feel that would get a response similar to Saints Row.

TravsVoid61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

If they keep any of the characters from the previous games I think it would do fine unlike Saints Row which decided to replace fan favorites with less likable replacements. I wouldn't be surprised if that decision caused a majority of their buyers to be new to the series rather than returning players. I will say though, if Infamous Second Son or the first two Infamous games were remade I would be a day one buyer on PC.

Nixxes Software Can't Go Wrong With An Infamous Remaster

Nixxes' Remaster focus could set the stage to resurrect many obscure titles like the karma-centered, superpower-fueled sandbox of Infamous.

maniacmayhem278d ago

Infamous remaster? How about an Infamous re-Boot! This is one game that doesn't need a remaster, it needs either a proper equal of a reboot of the original. And since Sony is currently in development with Marvel, i can totally see them having guest marvel characters to appear in Cole's world.

I would prefer Warhawk or Starhawk ether or both will keep us fans happy for a looooooooong time

The_Hooligan276d ago

Warhawk would be awesome! So many good memories playing that game on PS3. They could do a massive 50v50 mode, battle royal with last Warhawk standing, classic 20v20 mode, so many options.

shinoff2183276d ago

I'd rather infamous. Sonys got enough online bs in the pipeline. No need to add more.

1Victor276d ago

@shinoff I disagree with you both of those games was extraordinarily fun to play just the satisfaction of transforming your plane into a bot and stomp a enemy then transform and fly off on Starhawk was a experience that hasn’t been replicated since.
The game was extremely valanced to the point you could go against a tank on foot and win with the ratchet or 1 shot a plane doing a massive attack with your tank. In Warhawk you could pick up half your team and fly them to a base and take it over but those are experiences you had to play to know how awesome those game was even YouTube videos don’t do justice to those game.
Anyways I’ll stop here or I’ll run out of words to post a wall text taking about those games

Here's the thing, infamous and *hawk are such different games and with different audiences that Sony could... do both at the same time? Nixxes doesn't need to be involved in the shooter (that would be new for them I think since they usually do SP games) but someone else could and Nixxes could share support with development/engine needs.

Ya know Christopher is right they are completly different games. Me personally I don't value online games I just don't care for them. Hell in another bubble I probably enjoy them. In this bubble nah I just prefer single player unless I'm playing Mario or Mario party with my girl and kids or something.

1Victor275d ago

@shin of course I know Chris is right but the games have to be approved first before assignment to a studio I didn’t mean this studio in particular making those game I meant the approval process and Sony harder push on MMO games.
I’m just one of the millions of players that loved those game and a top 800 word wide ranked on Starhawk and proud owner of its platinum trophy

A remaster would allow people who don't have access to a ps3 to experience the game since there's so many stuck on the ps3 that are exclusive to the console and Sony refuses to invest in backwards compatibility

darthv72276d ago

Who doesnt have access to a ps3? There were over 87m of them sold. They are cheap and easy to find. Just like wii and ps2.

shinoff2183276d ago

Or maybe it's just not ready yet, ps3 was a different kinda animal.

DankSinatra276d ago

@darthv72

Not everyone is willing to go out and buy a ps3 for a single game or a handful of games when they have a ps4 or a ps5. A port or remaster would actually help. Younger audiences who did not grow up with a ps3 would have exposure to these games that Sony has essentially left behind on the ps3 due to them not investing in backwards compatibility. If they would do backwards compatibility then we wouldn't need to shill out more money for the same games. Something I actually applaud microsoft for (the only thing they have done that's good).

zaanan276d ago

Agree, and PS3 is getting long in the tooth, so failure rates will be going up. I had to send my slim in for repair years ago.

shinoff2183276d ago

I had a couple extra dollars and came across I guy selling ps3s for 50. I bought all 4. Just felt it was a good deal. Now if I could find controllers. I swear I can't find any cheap controllers around me

jeromeface276d ago

go back to marvel avengers, sounds like more your cup of tea

KwietStorm_BLM276d ago

You know what, now that I think about it.. yeah none of that makes any sense.

TheKingKratos276d ago (Edited 276d ago )

Lol 😂😂😂

Christopher276d ago

Yes to a reboot, absolutely no to Marvel characters in it.

maniacmayhem276d ago

*either a proper equal of a reboot of the original. *

Damn, there needs to be an extension on the Edit feature.

"Either a proper sequel or a reboot of the original"

And people aren't with Cole interacting with cameos from Marvel? Especially with Sony making Spider Man and Wolverine?

Why exactly would that be a bad idea? Especially with the multiverse being a huge deal and all.

Christopher276d ago

***Why exactly would that be a bad idea? Especially with the multiverse being a huge deal and all.***

There's enough Marvel. Let's not spread it everywhere and let other IPs be their own thing. Please.

neutralgamer1992276d ago

Infamous 1-2 collection would be amazing on current generation. God of War 1-2 and PSP games also playable on PS5 Yes please. And last but not least MGS4

There are so many great games which are on PS3. We need them to be remastered and released for current generation.

GoodGuy09278d ago

Idk why sony hasn't done remasters for 1+2 yet. Such great gems.

RaidenBlack278d ago

I'd like a Killzone 2 Remaster.
Keep the visuals style as is ... just improve the LoD and the resolution

ArchangelMike276d ago

Now that COD is in Microsofts back pocket, it's time for Sony to start investing in it's own 1st party shooters. I loved Killzone - even Shadowfall. But Yeah Killzone 2 was the high point of the Franchise.

ClayRules2012276d ago

Yes. KZ2 was the high point of the franchise and a strong, solid and just bloody fantastic shooter! Had so much fun those days with the game.

Neonridr276d ago (Edited 276d ago )

Shadowfall was my first introduction into the series as the PS4 was my first Sony console. Maybe compared to the others it was not great (personally I don't know), but I had a blast playing it and found it quite enjoyable. I'd love a Trilogy Remaster though so I could go back and enjoy the original 3 for the first time (with a new coat of paint + updated controls)

shinoff2183276d ago

Naw were good. There's plenty in the sea

zaanan276d ago

It’s about damn time for a Resistance trilogy remaster!

long-time-gamer276d ago

Most def the highest point of the franchise, the music, gameplay and story was awesome

ironmonkey276d ago

absolutely right! killzone has been quiet long enough since ps4 release date.

man id love a killzone 2 remaster, its one of my favorite games of all time, but who knows what shape that code in and where its at, prob wont happen under jim ryan though! you can keep your fingers crossed though and see what happens but GG is all about Horizon now

Vits277d ago

There is a lot of the PS3 era that I would love to see ported/remastered. But, unfortunately, they are probably not commercially viable and I have no idea who owns the rights currently. Stuff like Sire: Blood Curse, White Knight Chronicles, Tokyo Jungle, Folklore, etc.

Infamous on the other hand was never a series that I found good or interesting. Especially when compared with other contemporaries like Prototype. But, given how bare the subgenre is right now, I would dig a remaster.

BehindTheRows276d ago

Sony owns Siren. I can’t speak for the rest.

As for inFAMOUS vs Prototype, I feel the opposite. inFAMOUS mopped the floor with it, quality and gameplay. Just felt far more polished. That said, I enjoyed Prototype’s powers a little more.

Vits276d ago

Fair enough, I agree that the production values of inFamous were higher. But I found it to be a snore-fest.

darthv72276d ago

...no meed. Sony could add ps3 support to the 5 and then people can play loads of games already available. No streaming required. Rpcs3 could be adapted to run on the 5... it would solve so many problems.

Vits276d ago

No need, because they instead could do these two other things that they have shown no interest in doing? Sure.

Shane Kim276d ago

But then they couldnt charge you for remaster (even though I would love one for infamous) or charge you for PSN premium.

darthv72276d ago

It would be even funnier if the series x gets rpcs3 support and can play the ps3 games while ps5 still cannot (not without streaming them)

shinoff2183276d ago

Don't most people still have issues with rpcs3. It's not as stable as alot of emulators out there. From what I've read

My kids and I had a fun time in Tokyo Jungle!

long-time-gamer276d ago

prototype def was not on the same level as infamous far as gameplay or graphics

Pocahontas275d ago

It was legitimately bad game.

Infamous, Resistance, and killzine are so ripe for a remaster, I wish Sony would make it happen.

Older PlayStation games that we'd love to see on the PlayStation 5

From Xfire: "For a company with a three-decade-long history in gaming, Sony has done a crappy job at preserving its legacy. "

Flawlessmic722d ago (Edited 722d ago )

All the mgs games, all the ape escapes, silent hill 1-4, croc 1 and 2, legend of dragoon, tekken 3,tenshu, bushido blade, vagrant story, okami, ico, crash bash, gt4.

Thats just off the top of my head that i would play immediately, still so many more though that id love.

Welshy721d ago

MGS, Silent Hill etc are no brainers, but you earned my thumbs up for our boi Croc. I talk about him all the time, it's an honour to find another man of culture.

Flawlessmic721d ago (Edited 721d ago )

Hahaha yea was one of my very first games i owned on ps1 as a child, great memories!!

Love to hear there other people out there that enjoyed the gem of a game that is croc 👌

RedDevils721d ago (Edited 721d ago )

Okami has HD version already. I want those Sly games though since PS3 and vita had it.

Flawlessmic721d ago

Yea sly would be cool, i never got into those so would be a good opportunity for me to do so.

But yea theres so many games in sony catalogue we coukd be here all day listing titles.

Hopefully we all get the ganes we are hoping for.

outsider1624722d ago
