New Mistwalker RPG to be announced this year, exclusive first details

Hironobu Sakaguchi confirms in his latest column that his newest project is to be revealed sometime this year. Also shares the first ever details of his upcoming " RPG " .

" What about the game itself? Planning to basically put importance on having seamless control of the overall direction of the game, mixed with CG spectacle scenes. Controls will have a bit of a trick to it, while having a blend of RPG-type strategy and growth. Behaviors based on interaction with the situation around you...wait, I'm not supposed to say more than this… (^^;

Sometime this year, it seems I'll be able to announce what this new project is." - Sakaguchi

If it's as good as LO then I'll be happy.

Immortal Kaim5470d ago

Awesome. Lost Odyssey is my favourite current gen RPG, actually it is one of my favourite games this gen no matter the genre.

A LO 2 announcement would be fantastic.

WildArmed5470d ago

SQ is gonna make us wait another few years 4 FF series.
Glad to see I'll be playing some RPGs b4 then :D

AAACE55470d ago

I really liked Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, so I am now looking foward to anything coming out of Mistwalker.

The Great Melon5470d ago

Lost Odyssey brings back the feeling of enjoyment that I had playing rpg's last generation. Although I have only just begun the game, the dreams have drawn me into this game. Heck, I don't think I have even fought any people yet other than those at the opening sequence. Can't wait to see what he has to offer.

green5470d ago

Great news, if it's as good as Lost Odyssey i will be one happy gamer.Lost Odyssey is just one amazing game.

Bnet3435470d ago

I liked Blue Dragon! WTF! I never played LO ... :(

Xeoset5470d ago

You've never played LO?! Get yourself the game!

I've just installed the 4th disc for my current playthrough. It's running like a treat, literally no loads at all and makes the game oh so much more fluid. Just wrapping up killing the likes of Holy Beast, Blue Dragon, Golden Knight etc.

Once I've got some exam revision down, it's straight into re-living some Dreams from the top menu, they're so emotionally drawing. I love it.

Anyway, onto the story above:

This is amazing news for Xbox 360 gamers. While the announcement of more and more RPG's for the console keep coming in, especially games that are set to be be big ala Mass Effect 2 or Magna Carte 2, you know anything from Sakaguchi will be outstanding.

While we'll more than likely have to wait till TGS, here's hoping for E3. Though...PLEASE be LO2, I want more Ming.

green5470d ago

what the hell are you waiting for?Good story, great visuals, deep battle system and over 80hrs of gameplay needs to be seen.

kewlkat0075470d ago

If "Nobuo Uematsu" is also on board, I'm in. LO is still the best traditional JRPG I've played yet, this gen.

With the Final fantasy creator and composer and MANY other Former Square employees in tow I expect even more greatness. These guys are the reason FFXII took so long. They LEFT, now why are they FORMER square employees? I'll tell you why.

Two storms where happening:
One: Microsoft was trying to get square to work on the new xbox(1) coming up. Square was not budging.
The second storm: The creator of Final fantasy tried to make a movie (high budget!) it flopped. Well the thing is it put square in a vulnerable position, and they got some of their stock BOUGHT by Sony at a very cheap price.
So Square did the regular thing of putting the executive in charge in a corner with nothing to do. This is one of those what are you thinking moments. Hello he can still make the best FF games, yes this tends to push people out.

Look what happened without him on the projects? They have been getting worse, and worse. The music has changed, the game play has changed, the spectacular summon spells changed and then disappeared.

Along comes Microsoft with a barrel (or two) of money. Hello we will GIVE you a company if you just develop for our console. They Killed two birds with one stone. Genius! The business world version of divide and conquer (except square did their own dividing).
Get the next real FF game even with summon spells, Excellent over the top music, on the next gen consoles xbox360. And at the same time make it so that SQUARE IS scared, there is competition, and they are on the bread and butter system of this generation with no competition! They will have to make games for xbox360, for current customers and future customers(PS3 customers have a higher average age). And Microsoft will have exclusives. And have their final fantasy (the real final fantasy is on 360). Square is still trying to decide between action and turn based). Now Microsoft have the best of both worlds. I'm still getting FFXIII but I already know I'm getting LO2 and BD2 also

The thing is most of the time I want a action game, I can pick up motor storm or gears of war2, or crysis. And not worry about a game that has 200 attacks and how I'm managing my money and technical points, and mana type resources. People that dont like rpg's will get bored (at least my friends do even if it is a action rpg). So make one or the other!

Neoraf5469d ago

Lost Odyssey is brilliant!
I'm currently in Disc 4 and I don't want the game to end... :(

The dreams are awesome.
The music, man... the music.

Lost Odyssey is the best JRPG this gen.

The JRPG console, XBOX 360!
Keep'em coming!

I heard they canned the cry-0n project. but I hope for BD2 or LO2.:)

Why dis5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

Still trying to figure out why you mentioned a canceled game.

EDIT: Who are you talking to fan kid? He's hoping for sequels and I did not mention them lol. Go to the PS3 section no one wants to hear about PS3 suggested and anti MSFT myths.

KKanjiAnkh5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

Why? Why the H311, not ask, he probably wanted to see the potential of the IP, H311, me too.

For some they look forward to more than just sequels, and rehashes.
EDIT:

Oh I'm sorry for the non-believers in exclusive titles w/ promise.

Hmm... I must be really tired, or the comments might have been edited, but I can not follow what just happened here. ???

N4Flamers5469d ago

I wanted to see cry on too, the art looked promising. However the only sources that said it was canceled were not very official so I have hopes for the game still. I wouldn't be disappointed with a LO2 and I would prefer that over BD2 (do not want anymore maro).

I'm sure between the Mistwalker RPG'S, the Square Enix Exclusive(there are probably more to be announced), Magna Carta, Mass Effect 2 and the superior version of all the multiplatform RPG's released(there are other Exclusive RPG's which haven't been announced yet also)....

Xbox 360 is gonna be just fine, don't your worry yourself too much now.

SpoonyRedMage5470d ago

Wow Sony fanboys playing with metacritic scores and sales, do you really want to go there?

jkoz5470d ago

Give me Lost Odyssey 2 and I will be extremely happy. Favorite current-gen RPG as well.

tplarkin75469d ago (Edited 5469d ago )

LO had fixed cameras (you could pan, but it wasn't enough), and there was no relief from random battles. At a bare minimum, I want a 3rd person camera, an accessory that disables random battles, and I should be able to use all my items in a second play.

Guitardr855470d ago

I wish this would come out for the PS3. Why is it that whenever I hear of a new RPG, I cringe at wanting to know what consoles it will be available on!

Why dis5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

Why do that? Don't most devs test the water on the 360 releasing games on the 360 as exclusives or releasing them on the PS3 later on?

PS3 fanboy perhaps?

Sony is in bad shape when PS3 fanboys come into the 360 section wishing they had what the 360 had.

Fleet Fox5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

The reason you cringe when you here about a new RPG is that there's a 80-90% chance it won't hit PS3.

PS3=/=Developer Support

Fleet Fox5470d ago

Square Enix Exclusive "Front Mission" coming to Xbox 360 in 2009.

Confirmed. :S

Heliophage5470d ago

I don't mean to sound rude, but why would a Mistwalker game be on the PS3?

GUNS N SWORDS5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

you do know (Guitardr85) that hironobu detests sony, don't know the reason why but look it up. (1up did the coverage on it)

edit, actually it's covered in this issue, it's under

"Mistwalker RPGs on display"
http://www.1up.com/do/minis...

now if only i could get the full detail :(

The Great Melon5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

I understand what you mean Guitardr85, I wish it would have come out on the ps3 also. I would have played it sooner. If it weren't for the 30% discount on the 360 when Circuit City was going out I would have probably missed out on this amazing game. The dream sequences are truly moving.

Bnet3435470d ago

Yeah, and a lot of people wish PS3 games came to 360 so they didn't have to buy a PS3. Note to you, buy both systems and you are good.

kewlkat0075470d ago

You know that probably will not happen but whenever it's a good PS3 game, you get that same response "Go get a PS3, if you wanna play it".

You know, Xbox 360 exclusive games are never as good to warrant a purchase of the console, itself.

Blind Fanboyism and Loyalty is in this gen.

Guitardr855469d ago

I didn't mean to make anyone upset, I just wish there were more RPG's on the PS3. And I wasn't "searching through the 360 news" as some said...I actually read through ALL the news on N4G and saw this article. Lay off guys...GEESH!!!!!

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies8h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken4h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6919h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker19h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6919h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt7h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken4h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d 1h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto1d ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger881d ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies14h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
