Front Mission Evolved coming to Xbox 360

The Magic Box writes:

"Official Xbox 360 Magazine reported that Square Enix is working on Front Mission Evolved for Xbox 360, a new role playing real time strategy game in which the protagonist is a heroine. The game will have online duels and soundtrack involved Skywalker Sound."

Why do they put their money on the Xbox360 when clearly they can profit more on PS3. Seriously, they bring out a Blu ray movie with just a demo and it goes on to sell close to 300k in its first week in japan. Thats twice the amount of what Star Ocean 4 Last hope sold in its first week in japan (166k).

It annoys me how SE takes a Franchise that's been known to be with the PS brand and just put it on XBox360 Exclusively. First Star Ocean and now Frontal Mission. I Seriously hope SE has something planned for us PS3 owners this year cuz if they don't then I think its a real dam shame.

To be fair, Front Mission is another fairly big series from Squeenix that goes back a few console generations all the way back to the NES. This will be the 7th game in the main series. 7th!
Not saying it's the biggestgameofalltime, it's a fairly niche game (Real-time strategy RPG?), but it'll certainly boost sales of the 360 in Japan and I'll consider picking it up eventually myself.

Seems like most 360 fans don't even have a clue about this game but if it's a hint of exclusivity or "steal" an exclusive from the PS then they'll foam at the mouth.

FM is not an RPG. It has RPG like elements but at it's core it's a Turned Based Strategy game. Sure does look like SE is making it clear they're down with MS a lot more than they are with Sony's PS.

While people in America don' care, if they're on version 7, people in Japan seem to. So it's a good move for MS. And for people thinking Square is somehow losing money by not making games for the PS3 instead, do you really believe MS isn't making this worth their while. I don't think reading the comments of 4 or 5 360 fans in here can back up your wild claim. Xbox fans are a mix of different console fan bases from past generations. SE isn't allowing Microsoft to steal anything from the Playstation brand to begin with. SE is seeking Microsoft out trying to make money using the xbox platform and make a name for themselves. Why do sony fanboys think that SE should stay loyal to sony? Did they stay loyal to Nintendo? SE is their own company and they can do whatever they want. They are a business and I am sure they have thought out the risk-management. Even if their games do not sell as much, I am sure that MS is fitting the development bill and so it does not cost them much money to make a game so when they do only sell 136,000 copies of a game, Opening Day, they probably have already made profit. Personally, I would not be suprised if MS bought out SE as SE is clearly looking to expand into the West with the purchase of Eidos. LOL you guys misunderstand. i have an original xbox 360. its loud. its prone to issues, its been fixed for rrod, its had dvd read issues, it just recently had a video issuei fixed myself. i ran out of LIVE Gold and have to buy another years subscription, it has no hdmi (not that hdmi is needed for all games but i like how my entertainment center is set up with little to no cables dont even need a dvd player any more i got rid of them)

while netflix is on 360 and not on ps3 i use playon for netflix and hulu, it avoids having the 2 hour wait per device from netflix streams. i can watch a netflix movie on my ps3 my son can watch another movie on the 360 etc at the same time and no issues.

my ps3 is quite. i have blu ray movies i watch. and i love my ps3 only games. so its no surprise that i use my ps3 more than my 360.

so when i say i would prefer to buy it on my ps3. why is that a negative thing? a game franchise i love is coming out.. but i cant play it on the console i PREFER.

i have a few friends that prefer the 360, i prefer the ps3. why wouldnt i want a game i love on my console of choice?

front mission is not a game you play for an hour and move on. you play it for hours.. you could play for hours and lose your battle and have to start over.. i play my 360 for hours i get worried and shut it off to let it cool off. i play my ps3 for hours and dont worry about it, i keep going, then i watch a movie on it right after, and dont worry if i fall asleep while the ps3 is on.

so again to the fanboys calling me a fanboy, yes, a game that i really like that can be played for hours on end, i would prefer to play it on my ps3. why is that a problem for me to say that?

Two mistakes being made by SE:

1) RTS??? I've yet to see a good RTS on console. (Halo Wars included) They should try to stick to the turn-based design... I mean Front Mission Alternative tried to do the whole RTS thing back on the PS1 and it... kinda didn't work.

2) 360 Exclusive? God... something really bad must have happened between SE and Sony a year ago. It's like they're determined to screw Sony even at the cost of shooting themselves in the foot.

Yeah, I prefer to play my multiplats on the PS3 as well. My 360 just died last week for the FOURTH TIME, and I'm really really not looking forward to shelling out more money for a 5th system. And oh yes, that 360 is distractingly loud.

I wasn't bashing the FM franchise.
It was the opposite. I like FM quite a lot. 4 was my favorite.

Instead, I was finding it odd that they are making the new game a REAL TIME strategy game as opposed to TURN-BASED strategy game. Only one of their games was ever made into a real-time-kinda game, and that was FMA. And FMA was... not very balanced.

i'm not a big madden fan, so i'll download it for the 360. i'm a big front mission fan so i'd buy it for the ps3 if i had the choice. I'm not a big tales of fan, so i would stick to the 360 version.

as or RTS games, civilization Revolution was pretty good in my opinion. other than that the only other RTS on a console that was decent was warcraft on the ps2.

call of duty 4? no preference, both play great on both consoles and i play them both depending on which friends want to play that only own one console.

It's a great strategy game. Turn base like Final Fantasy Tactics or Ogre Battle BUT with mechs that you have parts that you can blow away. Not to mention it's about war and weapons of mass destruction, etc. There's always a love story.

But yeah, customization, tactics, and upgrading is the main hook of the game. Gotta love Double melee mechs!

Except that in Japan the console with the larger install base is the PS3 and FM has never been a "killer app" franchise. Its the Ace Combat of strategic turn based mech games, of which it is the only one of. FM 3 & 4 weren't even blips in the US game market, which is why we never saw FM5. Also probably why Square's "taking it in a new direction".

Sony owns a part of SE and still SE keeps coming out with exclusive/ timed exclusive games for the 360. Sure Sony profits from SE sales but one has to wonder what is going on internally. Usually a company wants to make stock holders happy let alone minority owners. Sony should invest in other powerhouse RPG studios like Level5 and Atlus because if they keep stubbornly supporting the 360 like the way they have they will be in bad shape eventually financially. FF/DQ/KH games will sell well but all it does it make up for the lack of low performing software sales of their games released for the 360. If one of those top franchises should fail in sales then SE would be in serious trouble.

I doubt it will be anything like Halo Wars. There's quite a big difference between rts and srpg, and rts games aren't that common among Japanese developers. Square have done lots of great srpgs but never any rts games.

Am I wrong? Seriously, are you happy with the quality of SE's 360 titles? Compare their current catalog to the days of the NES/Snes and the PS1/2 era. You don't see a night and day difference? There is nothing wrong with re-releases or remakes as it often introduces a new generation to great games. And SE has been introducing new IP's the problem is that they keep putting them on a system where there is no market even if that "other" system has a larger worldwide user base.

Just like previous X360 releases I don't this doing well either nor do i ever expect it to come out to North America. I will be glad once all the money from M$ is gone and SE can finally stop being a little bit*h and get back to where it's fanbase really is. Not to mention produce games on a better machine.

I think it's fair to say that MS' courting Japan has officially gotten in the way of my enjoyment of the console. Unfortunately I can't remember the last Square Enix game that I consider good, and the new games/exclusives that MS is pulling to the 360 are.. well.. terrible. Interesting. Also, PS3 fanboys need to keep in mind that like Lost Planet 2, this game was not announced as an exclusive (so don't bash it needlessly just yet). Merely that the game is in development for the 360. Of course, "Official Xbox 360 Magazine" won't report on other versions of the game.

So I'm sure Square is not stupid (after looking after sales numbers for the FFXIII demo) and will "try" to make this game multiplat. They know that the franchise has a larger fanbase in Japan and as a result, want to capitalize on that fanbase by making the game on the PS3 as well.

The further along this generation goes the less relevent se is for an rpg developer to me, i understand ff's take 3-5 yrs to make.

Yet it's is almost 2 and a half yrs after the ps3 launched and when it comes to ps3 games all we hear from se is crickets chirping.

I don't doubt that ff13 will be a kickass game and sell well, se or wada will at some point pull their out of there as and realise their fanbase is starting to get pissed off at them.

If playstation gamers ever write off se for good that company is as good as dead, se used to be a giant among rpg makers.

I enjoyed the past front mission games but I rather play it on my ps3 then my x360. Just because thats what I prefer. So no I won't seel my 360 and right now the tables have turned in favor of the ps3 when it comes to giving quality time. My 360 is really lonely right now and until something comes out that peaks my interest it will continue to have dust collecting on it and have that old ps3 feeling.

I love how a few years ago, SE was the best, they were sony's golden child, now that they are producing multi plat games, most of the sony fans are jumping on the bandwagon bashing them. I'll continue to enjoy my ps3 and 360 although i tend to play my 360 a lot more for online games, ps3 i spend most of the time playing offline for uncharted and msg4

The issue isn't se making multiplatform games for the 360, the issue is so far se has given the playstation gamer the middle finger and has released jack and sh^t for the ps3.

At least during the PS1/PS2 years they released some good games. Since Square-Enix formed I've found that all their console game have been mediocre except for Kingdom Hearts 2. They've been doing great with handhelds. I really missed the SquareSoft days they didn't milk from their franchises that much and actually took their time with developing games. You would seem a game from them every couple years. Now a days it seems that they're rushing and are releasing a game every 6 months or so. And if SquareEnix wasn't paid off by MS and really wanted to make more money they should at least make multi-platform a priority. Seriously where's Last Remnant for the PS3. At least back up your claim that your going multi-platform.

Seriously I think Sony realizes this and are relying on other developers like NIS, Atlus and Level 5. Give me Persona 5, Dark Cloud 3 and Legend of Dragoon 2 and I would probably to busy to buy another RPG from Square-ENix.

Man, this is so sad. I own both and I live in America and I am glad that this game is on x360, why? Because I know it will be released arounf the same time as the Jap version...ie Star Ocean 4, Lost Odyssey, and Tales of Vesperia. On the PS3, We US and Europe owners have to wait months if not a year to get the game after the JAp release...cough...WKC...cough. .Valkyria Chronicles...cough.

I don't care about how much it makes in Japan or how it upset the fanboys, I just want the games as soon as possible.

Play station isnt the only brand anymore, why release something strictly for the PS3 when overall the xbox has a stronger install base? SE is a company, they are here to make money, just like Sony, just like MS, just like Nintendo. They would be utterly stupid not to release multi plat. It could mean the difference in 4 million+ more copies being sold. Loyalty has no place in the business world and if you honestly think so, you're in for a long hard life.

I have never seen why anyone felt badly towards MS over all the flip flopping from SE -to them it seemed like a good way of slowing PS3 sales in Japan and getting a foothold out there themselves with a few SE games on their console-all conpletely fair.

However, no matter how it's been put to me I cannot for the life of me see what SE get from releasing games ona a platform which, by and large, their fanbase didn't buy(and in many cases bacause SE told them to get a PS3 for FF13 "only on PS3"-I think any of us in those peoples shoes wopuld now be right to feel let down by SE. I won't go over it all again mind as it's clear what I'm saying and SE have played both ends against the middle by steadfastly refusing to have anything of quality to release on 360 or anything at all on PS3 while the remakes and other handhelds shine in comparison to new junk like TLR and co.

As far as I see it, and I own every console and handheld, neither PS3, 360 gamers or those with both have gained anything of note from the MS/SE relationship and the jolt of working with new partners and the wrong engines at times has crippled the new HD games with tech jissues beyond their more usual jtpg problems. Playing a few of the FF and SO games on DS and PSP really did open my eyes recently to how poor SE are atm-and nobody gets anything from that. Should handheld games ,and mainly remakes and spin offs at that(sorry TWEWY!), really be the best that SE has to offer in 2009?

And lord wait for the sh1tstorm if FF13 doesn't deliver, KH3 goes 360 exclusive and Vs gets canned! However poorly I feel SE treat their most loyal fans($10 for a demo!!after starving them of anything since telling them to buy a console they refuse to make games for-you couldn't make it up!)I have to confess that it gets funnier with every fresh announcement-the Eidos purchase being a personal favourite of the head scratching variety. As for your example, it's flawed, Bungie was a first party developer for MS not 3rd party like Square Enix is, its hard to betray fans when you solely develop for their console (although no longer).

As for infinity ward and CoD, its a 3rd party multi plat game, it was never just for one console. I could see your point if they just stopped and only made games for ps3 , or 360 only.

Funny my first rpg was final fantasy 1 on nes, when square fell out with nintendo. I looked at the number of rpgs on the nintendo platform, then on the sony platform and the types of games that was being made on each, and never looked back.

Final fantasy 7 would have been crippled to hell if square hadn't switched platforms. Nintendo was too limited a platform stotage wise for what square wanted and thank god they did i enjoyed 7,8 and 9.

I see several games on the 360 made by se and none on the ps3, despite being the succesor to the platform that sold most of its games on.

Now since your so big on third parties being multiplatform and making even more money(the smart business decision) why has se for most of this generation ignored the other half of the market care to explain that?

But why not both the 360 and PS3. It they want to break into the NA market multi-platform would cater to their wishes. Especially when you consider that well their games this game generation have yet showed impressive number. At least if they released it on the PS3 and 360 the numbers should be better. They seem to forget their games are much suited to those who love Japanese games and over the years they developed that fan base with Playstation. Now a days they're pretty much giving a middle finger to their PS fan base instead of giving them games even if they are multi. They should learn a thing or two from Capcom. At least when they saying their going multi they mean it. Yes every now and than Capcom may have an exclusive or timed exclusive on the 360 but at least releasing something for PS owners and look at how well their doing.

SE has never been loyal to anyone company/fans is my point, the only reason final fantasy strived on the playstation brand for so long is lack of options. Now that there is a decent choice between consoles, both with solid markets and with SE wanting to expand more in NA, they go with what most people in NA have, and thats xbox. Like i said, to believe a company who is out to make money will be 100% loyal is absurd. If they really wanted to turn their backs on fans they would make it a 360 release only. Not multi platform.

How SE were arrogant enough to believe that their games make or break consoles and give them overwhelming success, and how they said they don't want the PS3 to be the overwhelming loser, but they don't want it to be the overwhelming winner either?

Now that you remember that, count how many PS3 games SE has released so far.

Seems like every week SE announce another game for the 360, another game that eventually bombs in every conceivable way, and then they announce ANOTHER 360 game to continue the cycle. Do they even WANT to make money on games? FFVII: ACC releases with the FFXIII demo in Japan, it's like the 3rd iteration of a movie EVERYONE has seen already, it costs MORE than a game, and it STILL outsells ANY of SE's 360 JRPG's in a first week basis.

Do you know why it did? Common sense is why. To make money on a product, you sell to a target audience that is MOST likely to buy it, not LEAST likely to buy it. Where did SE get the idea that the 360 userbase wanted these games? Is it based on the overwhelmingly positive reception they saw from last gen's massively successful Xbox JRPG's? Was it based on focus groups or something? 'Cause it's painfully clear that the majority of the 360 userbase don't give a rats ass about JRPG's of any form and yet SE keep releasing them on that console.

It's like, think of it in this really weird way. SE is represented as a house fly, profit is represented as the outdoors. In this situation, the 360 is a closed window that SE keeps banging into trying to get outside.
