Back in the days of the PlayStation, there were two series that were the survival horror genre: Resident Evil and Silent Hill. While Silent Hill focused on intense, atmospheric horror and feelings of desolation, Resident Evil relied more on shock horror, though the environment certainly lent itself to the shocks. In recent years, though, Resident Evil has started to remove itself from horror and focus more on action gameplay. Resident Evil 5 stands as a final nail in the coffin of the survival horror Resident Evil titles.
