Ace Combat 6 revealed as an Xbox 360 exclusive

In an event that shall only be referred to as "Mondayton," Capcom shocked everyone by announcing a would-be exclusive for Microsoft's platform. Today, it's Namco Bandai's turn. Mirroring the Xbox 360 launch with Ridge Racer 6, Ace Combat 6: Kaiho e no Senbi has been unveiled as an Xbox 360 exclusive.

It's all about software...the more you have the better standing you will have in the long run....especially when you are cheaper and run multiplatform games as well if not better in some instances.

Sony loses Mercenaries 2 last week, DMC4 on monday, Ace Combat on tuesday... what's next? Metal Gear tomorrow and Final Fantasy on thursday?

It's been said over and over that games, since they are so expensive to develop these days, will most likely be multi-platform if they are third-party games. The reason this sucks for Sony is that although some previous xbox titles (Saints Row, Oblivion, Fight Night Rd 3) will come to PS3, most wont because those companies are already working on new games or sequels, which probably WILL be multi. So coming out a year earlier is seeming like a smarter and smarter move. Also, some of the previously announced PS3 exclusives (Like Assassins Creed, Mercenaries 2, and UT3), have been using the 360 as the primary development platform ALL ALONG-- the developers have had 360 dev kits longer, easier to program for, better tools, etc.

Sony screwed up waiting for blu-ray, but at least that battle with HD DVD is going their way lately (although far from over). But on the gaming front...

Those games were only 'exclusives' because the PS3 wasn't out by then.

Fight Night has always been a crossplatform title if I am right. No xbox exclusive there.

Oblivion was PC/360 and the PS3 wasn't out then. Same Saints Row.

Devil May Cry has been exclusive for consoles to the PS3... upon nr. 3
Virtua Fighter has been exclusive for PS3... upon nr. 5

You Sony fans get the picture? Those are exclusives that have been on the PS in former gen system(s). The 360 'exclusives' that are said to come over to the PS3 have not been XBOX exclusives before.

Oh and Ninja Gaiden is a couple of years old game. A remake. The 360 will get Ninja Gaiden 2

is a popular title, but i don't think the lack of it on the PS3 (if true) will affect that many people. it's a solid playstation franchise, but i doubt really, a system seller. i still have my doubts that it's exclusive anyways. if anything, it might affect the long run, but it won't hurt the european launch.

I do have my doubt too. Ace combat is more popular in Japan than US. Launching it as 360 exclusives in Japan will be a disastrous, however launching it as multi-platform can be safer. But who knows, they can be like Capcom and let it fail miserably in Japan and hope that US and UK will make up the lost, just like lost planet.

uxo22, Yes this will give a boost, but I don't think this gonna give much better boost than Blue dragon which is not enough. Blue dragon, lost planet all failed greatly boosted xbox 360. I don't think ace combat will have better effect than that.

Madden... I understand how you feel. The issue on the whole with all the consoles and game makers is this bro. Even with our disagreements about PS3/360 here is how things are changing. Maybe not so much for you as for everyone who waves a so and so is a PS title banner.. in this new gen.

These companies don't care about WHOS console their game is on. With games costing millions of dollars to make now they want their money back and this is complicated by the fact that at this point the PS3 does not have the numbers to support a exclusive stamp on things. There are millions more 360s out there right now than PS3's... Doesn't make one or the other better it just means that Microsoft has created a compelling arguement for these companies to bring these titles to the 360. Microsoft is backing up BRINKS trucks of money to companies like Blizzard and a few others to get stuff to their console. SOny (all fanboy love aside) is being very arrogant this generation. It is working against them because yes they are only the king as long as someone doesn't knock them off. NOW we won't see that knock off for some time as the generation extends over the next few years. These games will come back to the xbox and the PS3... as the PS3 gets a compelling install base ALMOST everything will be multiplatform with the exception of huge AAA's and first party dev games (anything MS and Sony own the rights to.) I am not saying don't be unhappy about it. But realistically... There is a large contingent of people out there who are hardcore fans of stuff such as Shnmue, System Shock, Ultima Online, many many things that try this and it doesn't work because the money cost to cater to these people is not worth it to the company. They don't care if they lose 10,000 PS2 fanbois if 360 has sold 10 million consoles and the PS3 only 3 million they are going to release for 360 and I bet you the $1.75 in my piggy bank Ace Combat will be back on the PS3 next release. To tell you the truth ... We as the true gamers are benefitting from this. We get the good stuff... The companies make more money to give us good games. More than the continuing of Sony dominance or the emergance of the Xbox I would like to see the elimination of shady companies who use a technique in RTS and MMOs we call zerging where every year they unleash a thousand miniature updates to games and win via that (EA are the kings of the software zerging technique with Madden, NCAA, NBA, N4S... etc etc...) Give us a compelling upgrade or issue roster updates through an online download and take another year and give us a killer upgrade. N4S is another deal... they need to take a year off and retool it... I applaud your brand loyalty to the PS... that is cool. I move to the place that gives me the best gaming situation for me as a person.

I read your post today, finally. Been super busy here at work and I must say that you're probably 99% on target my man. I know that these companies will sell out to the highest market share, and that brand loyalty seems to be escaping from consoles these days faster than border patrol officers get sent to jail for enforcing the law. I concede that nothing is sacred anymore and if AC6 doesn't come to the PS3 like I thought it would then so be it. I haven't been this disappointed since my Sega 32X, but as silly as it may sound -- I'm still holding out hope that this title makes it to the PS3. Thanks for the comments man. As an Xbox 360 owner, I’m glad of the announcement that Devil May Cry 4 and Ace Combat 6 are coming out on the 360. But, Joystiq needs to be a little bit more careful on their statement that Ace Combat 6 is an Xbox 360 exclusive, because they are, at the moment, clearly wrong. Joystiq acquired this information from IGN, and IGN’s last paragraph in their article says, “Ace Combat 6 hits the Japanese Xbox 360 later this year. There's no word in Famitsu on a PS3 version, so for now, we're going to assume this is a 360 exclusive.” As you can see it’s only an assumption.

Sony has a few exclusives left and M$ has a ton of exclusives building up? so, this multi system argument to me is incorrect to some degree.

yes, some of the games Sony has lost is now multi, but these same companies are making games exclusive to 360 and not taking them multi. and then there are companies making games that never had sony in their sights in the 1st place.

so, the argument that these companies are going multi for cost reason and to make more money(meaning more money by going exclusive) really doesn't seem to hold weight...so i got to ask...

what are the reasons this is happening?

...the sad news days for PS3 are really here. I do admit that I am not at all moved by any of the two announcements regarding DMC4 and then Ace-Combat6 because 1 and a half year of hype and what is DMC4...a game run-able on 2 cores(PC) ? damn that was underwhelming. That title has faded its view just like GTA last year. What would a next-gen game be that takes only 8 gb space(Colossus(PS2) takes 8 gb space and has no CGI movies) and runs only on 2 cores of a processor ? Big development !
