And? With Saints Row 2, who needs or even cares about GTA anymore?

Being able to create nearly every aspect of your character, except strangly height, on Saints Row and then being able to play a preset story line.

or

Being able to play as a character R*makes up and you'll probably hate, and then being able to play thru a preset storyline.

I think I'll take Saints Row for a thousand Bob. Saints row is fun, it's fast and it's got a ton of things to do. In fact, you'd have to play through like 3 times to see it all.

va_bank5671d ago

I didn't think I'd like Saints Row - but the game allows you to create any character you want. The only thing that GTA4 does better is graphics. But I couldn't believe how many things to do there are in SR2. Makes me want to get a strategy guide for the first time since GTA3

HighDefinition5671d ago

But this is pretty f**kin PATHETIC.

sonarus5671d ago

What happened to microsoft paying 50million means they secured some monstrous DLC like a whole new city or some crap like that

HighDefinition5671d ago

That`s what I`m sayin....

This is a disgrace to everything. 50 million for more missions, they better be some good @ss missions.

Cause like I said this is one of the MOST PATHETIC things that has ever happened in gaming.

TheExecutive5671d ago

95% sure MS paid 50 million to get this to go multiplatform. DLC was just thrown in there.

solidt125671d ago

Exactly! With Saint Row 2 being out and having Co-op why play more GTA IV. GTA Iv should of had Co-op and a list of other things that Saints 2 has. Saints 2 is funner, but I will agree that GTA IV has better graphics and cut scenes.

DaTruth5671d ago

This is exactly what I said it would be. We won't find the 360 fanboys in this thread. LMAO at stupid fanboys who said it was "Vice City". "What do you think MS paid 50mil for, a couple of stupid missions." LOL!!!!

JasonPC360PS3Wii5671d ago

I like how PS3 fans jump to Saints Row, like thier going to stick it to GTA for leaving them out in the cold.

TheDude2dot05671d ago

@Above

That would make sense if GTA IV was exclusive. However, this is not the case, and it is the same for SR2. Sorry to burst your bubble there, Scott.

DaTruth5671d ago

Where are the Saints Row reviews. I want to know if I should get this to get me through the LBP delay.

5671d ago
HighDefinition5671d ago (Edited 5671d ago )

How can you call people idiots and go on a rant that`s completely UNTRUE.

MS gave R* the 50 Million AFTER GTAIV had already been in development for PS3 and 360.

Don`t go around talking sh!t about people thoughts, when you don`t know what your talking about.

Also, Lazlow is VERY close w/ R*, Anything Lazlow has EVER said about GTA is TRUE.

Genesis55671d ago (Edited 5671d ago )

Here is an idea why don't we release more missions for a game that most people never finished, right in the middle of the Christmas rush of new games season. Then we'll charge for it. Gee what a great idea and it will only cost 50 million.

No matter what spin you put on that. It is just bad business. Not to mention that their users of their new lead sku can't even use it.

vhero5671d ago

well duh!!! honestly you believe everything MS ever said?? they said Vista would revolutionize the OS market and be completely 100% bug free. Hey the whole point of that 50 million is so you would buy the 360 version of the game and you was dumb enough to do it so you got nobody to blame but yourself. It was an advertising ploy to get millions of ppl to buy a 360 and the game nothing more and it worked to an extent it's called marketing people do you think they care if its 5 missions or an entire island now?? like hell they do! they got what they wanted out of you they got your cash and your the bigger fools for believing there crap. I bought my 360 for gears and my ps3 as it was the logical step from an ex ps2 owner.

plain rice5671d ago (Edited 5671d ago )

I like how cherrypie exaggerates other peoples comments just to support his/her own argument. O_o

smothtiger5671d ago

All I can say about the DLC is that it would be absolutely awesome...
if it could had come out in the first month of the games release back in May.

TheRealSpy5671d ago (Edited 5671d ago )

first of all. to the people saying 50 million for this?? why do you care? did YOU pay 50 million dollars? no...so just be happy extra content is available, or don't buy it. that's not hard.

and the bigger point. saints row 2 is a lot of fun. i'll give you that. but the development is NOTHING compared to that of GTA. and it's not just graphics. it's the feel of the vehicles when you drive them. the physics is much much better. the looks, the story, the voice acting are all leaps and bounds over saints row 2. and the characters customization...okay i'll give you that. but that's a feature that really doesn't change much of anything. i was, however, impressed with the different voice options.

and don't get me wrong. saints row 2 is more fun than gta. but only because it's co op. it's full of bugs. all the main story missions are the same. "goto this building, kill a buncha guys. then go here and kill more guys." there isn't a lot of imagination in mission structure.

i'd say GTA definitely deserves a lot more credit than you bandwagon on jumpers give it credit for. GTA was just this years halo. great game that a few ppl were jealous of and their idiot comments spread like wild fire and since ppl love to follow the group, it just became the cool thing to do to trash talk these games. It's not like those games were like lair or haze where the hype was huge but the product was little more than trash. There was just no way GTA could live up to the hype. it was still great, just not AS great.

EDIT: @ Vhero. what are you talking about? you act as if the ps3 version of gta is better. pretty sure they said they are basically identical. and, it's not like we paid more for our copy of GTA than ps3 owners did. we didn't give them extra money cuz they made us a promise. even if they never said exclusive content, i bet most of the ppl that opted for the 360 version still would. after all, there has only been one game this entire generation that launched as a multiplat that scored better on ps3 than 360 and that was quake wars.

JasonPC360PS3Wii5671d ago

Let me get this straight... You guys are saying nobody cares for GTAIV because it's 6 months old and Saints Row is here and people have moved on, right?

10+ million people bought GTAIV, so many infact that it knocked Halo 3 off record books. 10 million people have been waiting 5yrs for GTA to drop and all of a sudden those millions are going to say "F GTA it's to old"?

GTA is the most hyped game and one of the most popular games in the world. It's a household name everyone from news media, polititons, religous leaders, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, ma and pa, police, supreme court to lawers around the world know of this game.

10 million and you don't think that least a couple million are interested in extra GTA content? I don't know where some of you Playstation fans get your logic, but I think it's time for you to buy a boat before you drown.

Software_Lover5671d ago

Was so that Rockstar could finish the game. Without that money, GTA 4 wouldn't be out now and take 2 would probably be owned by E.A. because they would be bankrupt. In return for the 50 million, Rockstar is giving microsoft DLC. This is the first and more will be to come.

Was it worth it? Only time will tell. Have to see how many people buy them and the reviews. I really dont play GTA, except the occasional online with a few friends. So this doesn't matter to me at this point in time. But if this were Mass Effect, now that would be a different story.

L Ronald Hubbard5670d ago (Edited 5670d ago )

GTAIV is nothing compared to its predecessors. Hell, even San Andreas was a better game and you think that this DLC with extra missions and characters will make GTAIV more funner?

In my case, I'd buy a game rather than extra content for a game WITH nothing really... extra.

Not only did Microsoft get shafted by having the inferior version of GTA4,but now it seems their 50 Million dollars are going into nothing.

Good Job Rockstar,I always knew you never gave a sh*t about the failbox 3fixme.

I haven't even finished the main storyline yet. So I don't think that I'll be getting this DLC any time soon.

theEnemy5671d ago

Is it worth the $20-30 bucks price ?

cherrypie5671d ago

At above, care to provide a REPUTABLE source for your price guesses?

The price has never been set.

Oh, btw, was San Andreas or Vice City worth the $50 that millions of gamers paid?

I got gta4 on release day and I'm yet to complete it. I just find the game dull and repetetive..so even more of these boring, shoot the guys hiding behind doorways, missions if a mega NO!

thor5671d ago

GTA1&2 were something special - great games. Then they changed the formula so it was still recognisable, but GTA3 was in a different genre, and it was really fun. But I got bored of GTA3. I bought Vice City, and it took me less time to get bored. I bought San Andreas, and there's a load of stuff to do, but when it boiled down to it the fun in the game came from precisely the same things as GTA3 - shoot people, wait for cops, shoot cops, basically d1ck around in the same way - so I got bored pretty quickly because I'd done that before.

"More Missions and Characters" sounds about right - that's all the GTA games since 3 have really added to the series. They can't really add much else as DLC because they seem to lack the imagination for it.

rhood0225671d ago

Lazlow said this on O & A not even a month after the game came out. The quote is old.

However, if anyone has insight into what the content is it's Lazlow.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing693d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker3d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing693d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
