Lazlow: GTA IV DLC is "More Missions And Characters"

Grand Theft Auto's most famous DJ has begun talking about the series again, this time giving a little detail on what fans can expect from the forthcoming Xbox 360 exclusive downloadable content....

Here is an idea why don't we release more missions for a game that most people never finished, right in the middle of the Christmas rush of new games season. Then we'll charge for it. Gee what a great idea and it will only cost 50 million.

first of all. to the people saying 50 million for this?? why do you care? did YOU pay 50 million dollars? no...so just be happy extra content is available, or don't buy it. that's not hard.

and the bigger point. saints row 2 is a lot of fun. i'll give you that. but the development is NOTHING compared to that of GTA. and it's not just graphics. it's the feel of the vehicles when you drive them. the physics is much much better. the looks, the story, the voice acting are all leaps and bounds over saints row 2. and the characters customization...okay i'll give you that. but that's a feature that really doesn't change much of anything. i was, however, impressed with the different voice options.

and don't get me wrong. saints row 2 is more fun than gta. but only because it's co op. it's full of bugs. all the main story missions are the same. "goto this building, kill a buncha guys. then go here and kill more guys." there isn't a lot of imagination in mission structure.

i'd say GTA definitely deserves a lot more credit than you bandwagon on jumpers give it credit for. GTA was just this years halo. great game that a few ppl were jealous of and their idiot comments spread like wild fire and since ppl love to follow the group, it just became the cool thing to do to trash talk these games. It's not like those games were like lair or haze where the hype was huge but the product was little more than trash. There was just no way GTA could live up to the hype. it was still great, just not AS great.

EDIT: @ Vhero. what are you talking about? you act as if the ps3 version of gta is better. pretty sure they said they are basically identical. and, it's not like we paid more for our copy of GTA than ps3 owners did. we didn't give them extra money cuz they made us a promise. even if they never said exclusive content, i bet most of the ppl that opted for the 360 version still would. after all, there has only been one game this entire generation that launched as a multiplat that scored better on ps3 than 360 and that was quake wars.

Was so that Rockstar could finish the game. Without that money, GTA 4 wouldn't be out now and take 2 would probably be owned by E.A. because they would be bankrupt. In return for the 50 million, Rockstar is giving microsoft DLC. This is the first and more will be to come.

Was it worth it? Only time will tell. Have to see how many people buy them and the reviews. I really dont play GTA, except the occasional online with a few friends. So this doesn't matter to me at this point in time. But if this were Mass Effect, now that would be a different story.

GTA1&2 were something special - great games. Then they changed the formula so it was still recognisable, but GTA3 was in a different genre, and it was really fun. But I got bored of GTA3. I bought Vice City, and it took me less time to get bored. I bought San Andreas, and there's a load of stuff to do, but when it boiled down to it the fun in the game came from precisely the same things as GTA3 - shoot people, wait for cops, shoot cops, basically d1ck around in the same way - so I got bored pretty quickly because I'd done that before.

"More Missions and Characters" sounds about right - that's all the GTA games since 3 have really added to the series. They can't really add much else as DLC because they seem to lack the imagination for it.

It mattered back when people had to make up their mind which system to get it for. I don't know if MS overpaid, as there's no way to tell how many people bought the x360 version just for DLC, but $50mil is not that much money for a company like MS, but it's a lot of money for Rockstar. It was a carrot and it got people excited. After people actually played the game, many didn't care anymore (see posts above).

GTA4 was overhyped and pretty boring, and almost 6 months ago, people have moved on.
I have the PS3 version so obviously can't get the DLC anyway, but if i had the 360 version i wouldnt bother anyway.
i only finished gta4 because i'm stubborn and wanted to complete it b4 trading in, i didnt reeally want to play it any more. i played multiplayer about 5 times and it was rubbish. the story was weak, missions repetetive and boring, less to do in the game than in preious ones. even going on a rampage or joyriding wasn't as much fun

i loved gta3, but it had its flaws, vice city for me was near perfect, san andreas was good, but a bit bloted.

hopefully it will work the same way, first one of this generation ok but a bit flawed, 2nd one to come out, better story and mopre fun, using the engine from gta4 as a good building vlock to start from

Metal Gear Solid 4 cost $60 million to develop
Uncharted cost $20 million
Halo 3 cost $35 million
Half-Life 2 cost $40 million

Face it, Rockstar took Microsoft to the cleaners and Microsoft are getting horse armour out of it. Microsoft were probably expecting everyone to abandon the PS3 in favour of 360 and it never happened. Now they're hoping to make the money back - which won't happen. To me, it's just more and more proof that Microsoft know nothing about gaming and just write big cheques for absolutely nothing.

The biggest joke? GTAIV sold less across two platforms, than GTA3 did on one which, at the time, had a smaller install base than the two combined.

So yeah, keep handing out that money for DLC and closing studios Microsoft, at this rate there won't be a next Xbox.

This blows I was looking forward to some new online modes or something. New missions? That sucks. On another note, why is this game getting bashed so much? I know it was not as fun as it could have been, but they did do a lot of things right. Mainly the immersiveness of the city. This was one highly detailed city. If you have an attention span longer than a two year old kid, you would be able to see why this game got a 10/10. It is a masterpiece from a design standpoint. There are so many details, its quite staggering. How about when you drove the car for the first time, and you were hauling ass, and thought you could slow down in time for the corner coming up. Instead, you slide for thirty to forty feet because you slammed on the brakes too hard. You did that because it is very realistic as to how a real car would do. If you are hauling ass in a real car and push the brakes as hard as you can, you are going to slide also. But, if press the brakes earlier and with less pressure at first and gradually push harder, you will stop faster. If you still got GTA try it. The cars in GTA4 have some of the best handling ever to grace a video game. Now some wight argue that some racing games have better handling. Yes they do, but it is made easier, because most people don't know how to handle a car at 200 plus miles per hour. Yes I wish this game was more fun, but other than that, this game is stellar. I really miss the jet pack and the flying tanks all that cool stuff from the other ones, and hope that they put that stuff back in. If not in DLC for this game, hopefully for the next GTA. But now that they got the tech down for this iteration, hopefully they can bring back the fun. Hint Hint Rockstar, look at Saint's Row.........

I think people set their expectations so high it was never going to deliver. It's not a bad game, but it seems to have lost a lot of the things that made GTA fun.

Mini-games, parachutes, jetpacks.

It lacks the craziness of past games in favour of more gritty realism, which put me off because the car handling was wrong.

You do know the 360 has a thing called achievements standard on every game, and that trophies are a direct rip-off of MS's idea. So while the ps3 now got trophies in their GTA4 game, 360 owners have always had achievements, and the DLC will have achievements.

So saying that trophies is better than DLC just shows how stupid you are, or how much in denial you are about getting your crack raped this gen by Sony!

It is very conspicuous that we have no real official details of what the DLC will be 6 months after the game came out... (It almost seems to me it was contractually held back) However if this is the case I think MS has underestimated the impact it will have on it's fanbase - and a made very poor long term business decision.

It's almost like the '50 mil' showing up in the rockstar earnings was planned (why not just lower the royalties from the game?) - to convince people to buy the 360 version over the ps3 version, barely to develop content. MS figured they'd make up the rest in royalties for people buying the 360 version over the PS3, and xbox live subscriptions. The total amount of money would lead people to believe, without 'lieing' that the content would be enormous. Who knows if it worked.

When it was first announced the net was alive with talk and as it gets closer to the DLC the same will happen again.
