The most exciting thing about both games is that neither Epic nor Insomniac have shown at least 5 percent of the game.The Chicago level that was shown was 4 perecent of R2 just like what was shown at E3 for Gears 2 was very little.

I remember back when MGS4 was about to release that people thought Snake was gonna be only in the middle east.Turns out there was a jungle part and a part in Eastern Europe which took everyone by surprise.

Gears 2 and Resistance 2 have many details that are waiting to be unveiled and I dont think what has been shown is doing the games justice.

Gears of War was game of the Year! FACT Resistance was a above average title when there was no other games to buy. This just seems like a classic game of one game trying to ride another games coat tale to get some excitement.

nothing deep about the story in either game. and i've seen these stories over and over again. in movies and games.

both will be fun to play. but lets not treat these games like they are story telling masterpieces. it's the action, plain n simple.

bioshock was a game that i played through twice cuz i enjoyed the story and the original concepts so much. i played through gears twice cuz i liked seeing bodies explode and head's pop off. and the first resistance...well...i really only played it cuz of the hype around resistance 2. it wasn't anything special but it had some cool moments.

in the end though....gears is going to outsell resistance by a ton of money and ppl will be playing it for years after it comes out. i think resistance will be popular til killzone comes out. i know i'll probably rent resistance since the multiplayer looks pretty blah but i'm sure the co op will provide for several hours of entertainment. i'm much more excited for horde mode in gears.

EDIT: i know ppl will respond to this with "horde mode is only for 5 ppl and resistance is 8 player co-op." so?? it's not about the number, it's about the way the game motivates you to work as a team. having 8 ppl playing a co op game will be fun but i can imagine that if you're playing on the psn...which you will be...chances are half the ppl in your party won't have headsets and you won't know them. and so a lot of the action won't be coordinated and you'll miss a lot of things cuz some guy that's already done it ran ahead and completed a bunch of the objectives.

....Both games will be great in their own right. Gears will be a fantastic title sticking to what made the first title great which was brutal close quarter combat, fast duck and cover gameplay, and getting to ride a reaver and brumak?! COUNT ME IN.

Resistance is looking amazing as well with an incredible scale, and alot of variety, from the 300 foot leviathon to the fast passed half human half chimera things that sprint through the streets of an abandoned chicago. 8 player co-op campaign and 60 player multiplayer?! COUNT ME IN.

Both these games look fantastic and are must buys this holiday season. I for one cannot wait to get to play both these fantastic looking titles.

what do you mean people forget? how can they forget when every single person that posts on these forums mentions that at least once? i don't think anyone, at this point, doesn't know that there's a separate 8 player co op and a 60 player multiplayer. i think what a lot of fanboys don't realize is that just because that's a big number doesn't necessarily mean it will translate well to a good competitive game. it MIGHT! we'll have to wait and see. but this constant reminding of no-longer-interesting facts probably isn't changing most ppl's stance on this game. either they are excited or they aren't.

also, from a personal standpoint, 8 player side story is nice, but i'd like to still have a 2-4 person co op option for the main story. even just a 2nd person will make it that much more enjoyable. also, i giant scripted boss fight doesn't sound fun at all. i don't see how the size of the monster matters? once it's bigger than what you can view on your screen, it's pretty much pointless. sounds like a gimmick used for advertising. obviously that worked. but in the video i saw, the monster grabs you, you shoot it in the face, it reacts the same way every time, then it tosses you...then you run up 50 flights of steps where more scripted stuff happens. it'll be neat to see, but it doesn't sound amazing or even terribly appealing. just something to experience i guess. and that is just my opinion and i haven't seen the finished product, so i could of course be wrong.

Halo 3 just because it was on the 360. Resistance 1 blew away gears 1. I thought Resistance:Fall of Man WAS a better game than Gears of War. The environments stayed fresh throughout, the multi-player is still addicting, enemies varied much more than Gears, and the weapons pretty much owned previous games. Gears of War may have looked better, but how many people played the online for more than a week? How many of them played the storyline through more than twice? I play the Resistance storyline all the time. On Hard mode, it's freakin' insane! The unscripted enemies make it fun to play over and over. They will flank and dodge like nobody's business. That's not to say it had better AI than Gears, but overall playability was much higher.

Expect a metascore within the 90's for Gears 2

From what I've seen of Resistance 2, the game will be lucky to get a metascore in the 80's.

Gears of War was game of the year and redefined the third person shooter cover system. Resistance: Fall of Man was a critically acclaimed game like Viva Pinata but no one was saying it was breaking any ground. Sony is just hyping this game up because they know they need to manufacture something to compete with Gears of War 2 so PS3 owners don't feel left out although realistically they should. Everyone I know who played Gears of War loves it.

i will probably buy both, but come on... what are we actually comparing here. a sequel to a huge game that's still very popular vs a sequel to a mediocre game that even ps3 fanboys weren't that thrilled about. that is to say, they weren't thrilled about til the announcement of the sequel, then suddenly it's the best game. but, then again, ps3 fanboys think every game on ps3 is the best game.

Sony got a game made by the people famous for spyro and ratchet & clank. We didnt know how that was going to translate into a fps. But ill tell you, once i took the fall about a year after its release, Its the best single player console fps ive ever played. And its some of the best run and gun multiplayer action around. i know nothing of this mediocre game you speak of.

Comparing the greater to the lesser is a normal human-trait, so I have no problem being a console fanboy because at the very least, it's still about the games. I'm just as much of a fanboy of the Honda Civic as anyone here could be a fanboy about the Toyota Prius but at least we're honoring the integrity of the things we love instead of other unnecessary things. Marketing campaigns have no value or holding whatsoever on a game's integrity other than creating false first-impressions and driving up the hype sales for a game that's pretty much a PoS hands-on. Gears is gonna be huge as well... Besides COD5 It`s like the only thing to play for the rest of the year-
I might even pick up a Arcade for 199$ and get on the Gears Band wagon...Looks solid-
And who does`nt want to ChainSaw there enemy back to the respawn...lol

And XBots out there please... Insomniac makes great games...make no mistake, They drop 8.5+ rated games out like it`s a everyday thing- R2 will @ the least get a 9.1 or better-

I like resistance but the multiplayer sucked! I loved the resistance story and campaign but I can also say the same for GOW1 but GOW1 had a bad MOFO of a multiplayer! GOW1 is slightly more intense with more AI to up the realism! GOW1 is fun because its so bloody and evil! Resistance was easy and with a good story or campaign! just buy the game u like and if u r not a good fps gamer get resistance because its easy!

How bloody stupid. For example, we could put a survey on which game is better "Lair vs Gears of War 1", and I guarantee that Lair would easily collect the better game on this site, easily. We all know Gears is the better game, but Sony fanboys would never vote for a 360 game.

The Sony Defense Force easily overwhelms this site, and infects it like Ebola. The best method, and I am not saying it is perfect, but is a Metacritic comparison. And I would easily put money on Gears 2 edging out Resistance 2. Though I think it will be very close either way as both games are looking great.

ill take a wild guess and say that AGENT VX above me is a x360 fanboy or whatever its called. voted for R2. i personally think its better than gears for the main reason that in Resistance you fight in he daytime and not just the night time like in Gears. Gears story is set up so you follow the story carefully. like the part where you have to shoot te gas things to bring light. those things were perfectly placed in the perfect place for you to complete the damn mission.

Actually, I prefer PC gaming, but thanks. I do own both the 360 and PS3, and easily play my 360 more.

So fighting predominately in the daytime makes a better game, Hummm!!! First I heard of this one, but hey, what ever floats your boat.

Gears easily was the better game vs. Resistance. I wouldn't say it was way better, but better for sure, and Metacritic also agrees with me, as does most professional gaming critics.

I think Resistance 2 and Gears 2 will be much closer, and both are looking excellent. But hey, if facts make me an Xbot, then sure!!!

Resistance2 won the three rounds

Well no surprise there, you have:

Epic Single Player.
Epic Coop .
Epic Multiplayer (60 player).
Epic Weapons.
Epic Boss Fights.

This game wins Gears2 hands down.
Id love to see Cliffy B face when someone asks him ¿do you still think GeoW2 is better than R2?(i bet it takes five minutes for him to start giving the answer)

Completd 55/57 on gears

Gears was a technical mess offline for starters.
Break the points stated before you disagree or just disagree because facts hurt true or false.

1)The campaign mode was way to short!!

2)The enemies aka reapers would get caught in technical glitch hopping up to the ceil and floor over/over again in one spot. The reapers would glitch you out of the cave seq level if you ran torwards the exit for cover / counter attack position 3/10 tries.

3) the locust would be taking cover out of cover shooting at you. Instead of hiding behind a wall ect... they would be glitched into the wide open next to the cover the AI thinks they were behind shooting at you and hiding from you.

4)you can crab walk offline during campaign..??

5)the five enemies you face at a time can be glitch out from happening by tossing a grenade into the emergency hole before they hatch out.

these are just the few of many offline glitches in the game.

online glitches in Gears1

1)Gears has so many online glitches that calling R1 laggy in at face value is a lie in comparison to Gear1 glitches/LAG when you play online.

2)Gears1 everybody aka 8players can crab walk,exit the map,skywalk,chainsaw glitch,weapon glitch Aka use pistol as sniper rifle /shotgun ect,ect..,weapon slide,infinite grenade pick ups,carry four weapons at one time(boomshot/shotgun/chainsaw /piston) You are only suppose to hold three??? WTF

3)The best glitch i came across is a modem glitch were a the person can lag the game and pick up weapons /kill people while they are frozen still...?? WTF

At the end of the day Gears was fun but not better then R1 for the total package.

R1 offline glitches

1)I am not trying to be bias but their were only one glitch i seen offline with the enemies beside their guns sticking through walls in closed building at times and shooting you.

R1 online

1)You might have one person out of 40 with bad connection that might have made the game slow down.

2)There were maybe one person who would shotgun glitch. This is when they would warp a couple of feet around you and blast you with the one hitter quitter shotgun blast up close. I do not remember no more then one person glitching in the 3500 plus games i played... I have NOT seen the Lag that people are talking about. their was not that much to even consider when using the word lag as a negative torwards R1.

At the end of the day R1 was the better of the two games when taking in the total package as consideration!!!

R2 VS G2
R2 will have the total package once again!! R2 wins!!

I think the game should be split up equally between the daytime and nighttime. not just only daytime or not just only night time. i also own a ps3, used to have x360(sold it), wii, and pc,(psp) but nothing beats the ps3 in my eyes
