Looks better than the blades. I'm more curious about which game MSFT will start distribuiting via XBL, the reason for all this is not directly the optional installs but digital distribution of games similar to what can be found over the PSN. The only negative with this is that owners needs to buy a new HD, the rest is just positive things, better games, less crappy XBLA, competition between XBL and PXN that will result in better prices for users on aither console.

They've been doing that for months, just because they havn't done anything outside of the *XBL Arcade market* and *Xbox originals market* doesn't mean they are not distribuiting via XBL.

IM DAMN tired of these damn fanboys they should be permanetly banned from the gamer zone. I prefer the PS3 myself but I may be getting a 360 soon. Is there any easy way too mod the drive too use any type of hard drive? Well anyhow I think both sides can agree on one thing banning those fanboys.

What i'm looking forward to is how the multi-disc games will work, Major Nelson on (i think) last week's podcast mentioned something about how well the multi-disc games will work, presumably, install all 3/4 discs, and just use disc 1 to play through? this update news is getting better and better :) As above have mentioned, definately time to get a bigger drive !

which in case you didn't know it was available way before the PS3 came out... it there are some similarities between the PS3 OS and the xbox new UI microsoft was not the one who copied it... they already had it on Media Center.

Your wrong, I have used mediacenter in my living room since 02 and the new 360 like interface was only introduced in vistas, media center. And clearly before vista's media center the PSX shipped with XMB, but sadly it never sold well. Not that im saying its copied just saying your information is wrong.

@9.4: You're wrong. The cross media interface has been in Media Center since it launched(Windows Media Center Edition) It is most definately not just since Vista.

I thought you had to update to the new dashboard? They say you don't need to use the new dash because the guide button gives you a new version of the blades menu even if you are ingame. Which is pretty nice!

I really like the installs, finally I don't have to listen to the dvd-drive anymore. When it comes to sound I really envied the ps3 during gameplay, not any more :) (at least when the update is finally here!)

This is what makes me wish the Xbox didn't have a retarded hard drive. Wish you could just switch it out for any hard drive like the PS3. Here is hoping they lower the price on the 120 gig drive cause i sure as hell am not paying over a hundred dollars for it. Also love how in the video even over the static noise as soon as the install begins the xbox gets loud as hell.

I wish I could transfer the 26 gigs of content off my 40 gig HDD onto a new HDD without re-downloading everything or using a third storage device(Which I don't have)to transfer the information.

Would you care to explain how you can do that on the PS3. I would seriously like to know if there's another way I can transfer data without having to buy a flash drive or an external hard drive. I've been looking into swapping HDDs lately, but this has been keeping me from doing it.

You cant do that on either console, if you dont have a medium to back up too you wont be able to do it on either. If you are going too take out one drive and put in another you cant copy them on either system. Because there is no magic way too copy one hardrive on the other without a means of transfer.

FYI: When you buy a 120g HDD for the 360 it comes with a transfer cable that allows you to transfer everything from one to the other including your music. Its quick and easy. The way things should be on consoles.

Considering a lot of games in the near future will be on several disks on the 360 I'd say its a pretty good idea, supposedly you won't have to change disks in that case. For example when playing Lost Odyssey, XIII, Rage or whatever you'll just install the whole thang and have one disk in the drive. Minus the spinning, which IMO makes it worth it alone...

This has nothing to do with the disk spinning, because if you watch the video and turn the sound up, you can still hear the 360 go a little crazy.

To get back on topic, MS did this to compinsate for future games. Most games coming out soon will be multi disk. Such as FF13. Rage is another example. Doing this will decrease all the issues devs complained about, but at the same time MS has to still decrease the multi disk fee or have none at all because the game quality issue will still exist.We will see how this plays out, and I wish MS luck.

The only thing I hate about this is that they are forcing people to buy bigger HDD's or a new console. I know its not mandatory, but the situation still exist.

Your lying, the installed games make no more noise than playing Xbox originals games from the HDD, no game was even shown, where did you see a game being played in this video?.

The most likely reason for installs is the fact MSFT doesn't wan't Sony to have an edge in reviews due to load times, pop-ins etc.

Having an install feature for 20-30 gig "games" according to you; is ridiculous. lol

The fact that it will load faster is the point. Though this will not really affect game quality since games will still have to actually work without using the HDD because of the core/arcade units.

then I can live without installing the game. Space is not a concern (I have an Elite) I just don't think it's that necessary. The dashboard update does look pretty cool and clean, though. That is something I can get behind. Others will disagree, but that's OK, too.

GlossGreen aren't you glad is optional? and it's support for ALL xbox 360 games... the only purpose of this is to reduce loading... and xbox 360 owners have the option of ignoring this features and run it from the disc... or install the games they rather want to speed up loading... I see myself installing games that I play online often...

What i like about MS is doing a lot right now is its all Optional for the time being of course.. You do not have to update if you dont want to, or install if you dont want to.. Id like to install favorite games like Oblivion for faster loading, and soon to be Rage... i wonder if you can install disc 2 and play off Disc 1 so there is no swapping?? If not, all well ill swap it, takes 5 secs :)

Well, Basically You won't hear any noise from the console's drive.

In other words, It will be as quiet as if you are playing a X360 demo as Nothing is been read from the Disc itself.

If this is supposed to reduce loading, it would be good to see him actually load up the game, that way we can see just how fast it loads GTA IV. I've seen it load before at a mates, and it was about one/two pictures faster than the PS3 wierdly, not that I was bothered about having the PS3 version. So with this, it should load SO quick. Be awesome to see, cos I'd love to have Fable 2 loading that quick when I get it!

Happy now i finally have a good reason for having an elite now, feel sorry for all the people with 20gb systems, that will have to pay ALOT for a bigger hdd if they want to use the feature much. I think this video pretty much confirms the system pretty much copies the whole disk to the hdd, so its going to take up a lot of space for games. I'm sure 6.8gb will be more common than 360 owners would like to think. I think MS has alienated a lot of its fan base here to try to one-up the competition - I mean it just got a lot harder to be content with a 20gb system.

one more thing Is 30% load time even worth it??? Probably not worth $150-$180 for a new 360 HDD.

well the load time will reduce steaming data, so pop-ins become irrelevant, games such as skate, mass effect, lost odyssey and gtaiv will really benefit!

i dont think that installing the game will reduce the amount of pop in textures as i think its something to do with the game engine rather than the game being installed or not but still thats what i think please feel free to correct me

Well I can't say for definate either, but It's my understanding that pop-ins is to do with how much data is being displayed versus data being read. For games like mass effect if the texture data was stored locally (on the HDD) then the read time for said data would be conciderably reduced since HDD's transfer data quicker than DVD's streaming, but like I said I'm not 100% sure, I might be completely wrong...

Is to stream all of your content from your Laptop or PC. I have my 360 wired to my Linksys Wireless-N router. So I can stream my videos, pictures & music by "Windows Connection" instead of having it on my HDD. Also I have a 4-port USB block also connected to my 360 in the back. The video streaming works really well. Buffering times are decent when fast-forwarding or rewinding.
