Capcom Splits From THQ in Australia

In what is definitely an interesting shake-up in the local game distribution scene, Activision Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement to become the exclusive distributor of Capcom Co. Ltd. titles in the Australian and New Zealand markets.

The commencement of the agreement coincides with the launch of the highly anticipated Lost Planet: Extreme Condition on the Xbox 360 platform in early 2007. In addition to Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Activision will also be launching the critically acclaimed Okami, and God Hand.

"We are delighted to be working with one of the most admired Japanese video game companies in the world," said John Watts, Senior Vice President, Managing Director, Asia/Pacific Region, "the calibre of Capcom's products is second to none and this new relationship underscores Activision's commitment to bringing some of the world's biggest game franchises to the Australian and New Zealand markets. We are very excited to be working with Capcom and look forward to a long and successful partnership with them in this territory."

IGN contacted THQ's PR and Promotions Coordinator, Drew Taylor for comment on the situation and the reason for the split. He said, "All good relationships eventually come to end. We certainly enjoyed working with them - with [distributing] Dead Rising, for instance. But at the end of the day, these things happen - and they happen quite often in this industry. Capcom are also buying up in UK, so the company is obviously going in a new direction for a while. We wish them the best of luck in the future."
