The one thing that Gears 2 needs in spades is the soft-body physics stuff...and the destructible environments w/ wide open landscapes...thats the only thing that the tech demo showed that is impressive for UE3...

I like Epic, always have...but each of their engines always reminds me a bit of Apple, adding normal stuff, yet acting like they invented it...like the first few minutes of the tech demo show the new shadowing, dynamic water reflections, and layer manipulation in water...wow...almost every game last year had that...yet Epic turns it around like its new...

UT3 is currently the best looking and running UE3 game...but to have the impact the first game had, Gears 2 is going to have to absolutely wreck UT3...of which is a tall order when using the same engine...

The only thing we know about Killzone 2 this far is that it has great graphics.

it really does not have that much to prove, unlike some other games.

It has a fan-base and might come bundled with that new "Jasper" 360 I heard about coming out in Aug. Or better yet a Gear of War 2 edition...just watch it might get Halo like treatment..

Yet, here come the sony-haters to say how it wasnt any good. Bring up Resistence 2 (Gears of War blew Resistence away -- not *MY* opinion, but the industry based on awards and reviews). Killzone 1 was mediocre. Sure, KZ2 looks good, but who knows it if wont just be a shiney turd? Reviewers havent had a chance to (p)review the game yet, we havent played it.

How is what N4user said fan boyish ? All is true...Gears won game of the year, tons of awards and on meta critic it had universal acclaim w/94 review score average out of 88 reviews. WHERE AS Resistance wasn't game of the year, not nearly as many awards and on metacritic it got a 86 review score average out of 69 reviews. Even the ratio difference favors Gears instead of Resistance (94:88 versus 86:69 respectively). So again I ask how is what N4user said fanboyish ?!?!?!?

Resistance was a fun game and i really like it. Yes gears was better but resistance was also awesome. Killzone on the other hand sucked and the only the fanboys seem to not get that. If you didnt like the movie "jumper" would be excited for "jumper 2"? Going by this same logic i have no interest in killzone 2. It seems MS (and its partners) like to keep games that under far-out from release under-wraps.

Gears of War 2 is a great example. Everyone knew their would be a sequal after Gears was such a terrific hit. But, they *still* havent shown actual-in-game footage.

They want to manage the release of information more closely.

Compare that with Killzone 2. Remember the bull-shots and rendered gameplay videos from E3 2005? And, they've been showing bits and pieces for the last 3 years. The same goes for LBP. How long have they been showing that game?

Resistance was hyped by Sony/devs/fanboys with the usual talk about gigs/tech talk....yet when the game released it was just average, ps3 faithful just swear by it since there was nothing else worth buying on the ps3 for quite sometime. Yes I've played them and imo niether one of them come close to how great Gears was, that game STILL sells well considering how long its been out and its STILL full price in alot of stores. btw 86% for on metacritic isn't bad but its not exactly great either, but yeah maybe its a little better than mediocore....ha ha so I guess I was wrong lets just say Resistance was NOT great like Gears and so many other 360 exclusives. You guys know it's true, with the unproven Killzone 2(KZ was garbage), then you have Resistance 2(which I cannot fault because the first one was good)but I think Gears 2 will make everyone shed tears, Sony fans will shed sad tears when Gears 2 destroys everything on the PS3, 360 fans will shed tears of joy because the best franchise on the 360 is back, it will be an emotional day.

I cannot wait to see this footage, hopefully it's long enough that I can actively blink and see the footage, also, that Killzone 2 footage was very mediocre in my opinion it's visuals looked a little better than COD 4(which is good)but I seriously doubt that it will be that special delivery from god that you all think it'll be.

For the longest I have seen PS fans put their hopes and dreams into titles that turned out not to be that heavenly drink from the chalice of Jesus, from Heavenly Sword, to Lair to Uncharted(which was the best of them all), to Ratchet & Clank and soon MGS 4(which I have no doubts will be the closest to that drink from Jesus that you all were waiting for, you guys should put more faith into MGS 4 than Killzone 2, seriously.

Anywho, I am geared up for the Gears 2 footage and with Ninja Gaiden 2 demo and DBZ demo around the corner it will be an awesome month for us 360 fans, how was that Haze demo? I;m actually quite curious as to how its gonna play and how the story is gonna expand on the Gears universe. Gameinformer has a big cover story on this game and it sounds pretty fxcken sweet. The only thing that raises concerns is how the story is gonna play out. It sounds like they want to improve on it, but they need to be careful and not forget that the main meat of the story is the war itself and not the character in that war.

why are resistance and Killzone being compared to Gears? Gears is a thrid person shooter, the other two are FPS games.

I think it'll be a much more open game to the first with hopefully more enemies on screen and destructible environments, but with that said I hope and pray it'll be longer than the first but to maintain it's quality throughout the campaign. The first game should have been massively marked down due to retarded campaign length.

Gears of War2, Killzone 2, and Resistance 2 all look good? Just wondering. They all have different locations and a different art style so it may be hard to compare. I'm a shooter fan so I hope to get all 3.

Can someone *please* moderate the blatant fanboy comments on every 360 article I read ??? It's getting extremely difficult to even have a semi-intelligent conversation about any 360 game, especially big releases like Gears, on N4G.

The guys over at epic are using some new stuff to render this game. They say they found away to do Amb-Occlusion maps on the fly. If they are interactive maps I will drop bricks because that is not supose to be possible. That may not mean too much to most gamers but just know it makes things have a more organic lighting set up. If they can do it it will be as important as normal mapping.

Another thing is why even comment on what haters say? They are all talking junk because of all the hate that fanboys shouted during the PS3 stumbling days. It's just a reaction and they have the right to do it almost but if you come here to talk about what you like then you'll be fine. It's hard for mods to do there job if you fall into the the trap.

Seriously this could be very big. I will admit the first Gears was too slow for me and the cover system was to static and did not flow enough. They have vehicles in this one and the lighting is pretty sick along with other things. We will see what happens but really no matter what system you like you better root for them because we all use the UT engine. With out these guys we would all have games that look like xbox 360 first gen games and please don't take that as a dis because the PS3s first gen was just slightly better. Yet I'm sure some will Thats just what you do.

Put on some GTA4 and chill yet if you are at work try looking useful and looking up some of the stuff they are doing.

I own a ps3 but I'm sure the second Gears will be a great game, I though the first one was pretty good, I just felt awkward playing it but that was probably cause I dont play on 360's much.

That being said I think its pretty unfair to compare GeOW to Resistance and Killzone because the 360 had been out for a year and the game came out before the ps3 even launched. Ofcourse Gears would look better than Resistance. A more fair comparison would be to compare Resistance to a 360 launch game. As for Killzone first of all it does look good and this isn't direct feed and it was pre alpha footage. You cant knock the game for having less color cause that's the art style. It wouldnt be Killzone if it was really colorful. I personally think all the games will be great, and I'm sure GeOW 2 will look really good.

I'm hyped about what they are doing in killzone2 too. They have a lot more atmosphere based effects going on it would seem and the lighting in the background is just sick. This is what I will be watching for in gears 2 also. Thats the next big thing before we all move into direct x 10 level graphics or the new open GL specs. I haven't really seen too much of resistance though you got any links? Hell any way that a developer improves or proves some thing can be done on any system is good for us all. I love this stuff because it's like siggraph with controllers!

If you're talking about Resistance 2 then no, most of the videos I've seen are from here, Resistance 1 videos can be found anywhere, I suggest gametrailers, IGN, or the resistance website which is sweet. I gives you a timeline of events that happened before the game and is an interesting read.

I honestly not only believe they hold a chance. I believe they have all chances to end up with the best lineup this year. Now that Killzone 2, and Gran Turismo 5 and most likely Final Fantasy XIII will not see the light until 2009, Resistance 2, LBP and MGS4 might just not be enough against Halo Wars, Gears of War 2, Ninja Gaiden II, Alan Wake, Too Human, Splinter Cell ConViction and Banjo Kazooie 3.

I heard epic talking about this new version and it some thing I've wanted for a while. Yet movable, pushable dynamic cover would be sweet.
I mean I want to push a box forward and then dive to the side and flank them with a shot gun and a high frame rate then pick up his body and use it as a sheild! Now that would be sick! Or how about knocking out one of the guys stuffing a nade in his throw and wake him up and let him run in the direction of the others BOOM! Yeah that would be fun but the play testing would be a nightmare yet I'm sure they will try stuff like that if development time lets them.

Your right to pump your brakes to try not to let the hype get to you though. Yet you have different things to get hyped about when it comes to gaming.

I'm still shocked at people hyping up resistance as gears killer. Played it couple of months back with the platic toy controller. The button placement was imo worse than controller itself. In coop we had to shout and point out our location to each other, with no marking to locate each other. Weapons are bunch of lamea$$ ideas probably thought out by 10year olds. I kept dying because i was getting killed while i lay under cover but the other guy fired a missile and it comes around the side of the cover defying the fking laws of gravity, and mothernature and boom i'm dead. And thats my opinion of RFOM.

Back on topic, can't wait to chk out gears 2. More excited about it than UT3.
