Best Reasons to Play GTA IV on Xbox 360

No offense to PlayStation 3, but GameDaily don't want to play Grand Theft Auto IV on Sony's machine. Here's why they are rocking the Xbox 360 version.

This is just opinion. Here are my reasons to get GTA4 on PS3

Xbox Live: PSN is free. As long as i can do friend invites and voice chat that is really all i need. Most of my friends i have known for yrs either have ps3's or are getting ps3's not for GTA4 but for MGS4 though. Xbox live has a robust community but that in no way affects me because i am not trying to play with ALL of them.

Controller preference: Maybe its just me but i never found anything wrong with the PS1 controller or PS2 controller. The 360 controller feels weird in my hand. I don't suffer any strain when playing on the ps3 controller so i am really confused as to where this comfort comes from. Sure the 360 triggers are better placed but those aren't the only buttons on the controller. I find that ps3 button are better than 360 in ever area except triggers. I find the bumpers very stuff as well as most of the other buttons on the controller. I have an extra long wire for recharging my controller and i don't see why anyone should complain. If you have to buy a recharge kit/ AA batteries for your 360 controller why can't you buy a longer usb recharge cable

DLC: I never finished saints row, GTA vice city, san andreas or any other open world game i have managed to get my hands on. Sooner or later i give up following the missions that being said extra missions have absolutely no impact on me.

HD cables: Yes it sucks ps3 doesn't come with HD cables but i fail to see how this has anything to do with which version to choose from. If you already have a ps3 and still no hd cables it means you don't need them. If we are talking about buying a new console for the game, then simply put there are a lot of reasons to buy the ps3 over the 360, blu ray player, and reliable hardware are just some.

Hard drive space: Yea it sucks but 5min install doesn't sound like it will be much. I find it funny that someone looking to download DLC is going to be complaining about hard drive space.

Like i said its still all relative to opinion. If you are going to buy GTA4 on 360 then go ahead. A lot of people prefer the 360 to the ps3 but it is all based on personal preference and very little fact. Before we could say 360 games run better, or ps3 had no rumble, or some excuse but slowly those excuses are dwindling and soon there will be no reason to choose 360 version over ps3 version but for personal preference.

- It's a ripoff i have to buy AA batteries or recharable packs from MS
sure its a choice of preference but claiming that using batteries is a feature is laughable couse i bought my ds3 play it charge it every 2-3 days on my usb and havent bought ONE batterie or recharge pack ever since. on my 360 i bought several packs AA's and later 3 packs of rechargeable packs + recharge station.

GTA IV is bigger on Xbox 360, and size matters

- ok the dlc is nice but calling the 360 version (ultimate, superior) whatever is a sore joke because otherwise i have something for you xbox fans, i play gears, mass effect, bioshock, as the "superior pc-version", wich is also the same bs as saying gta4 on 360 would be superior to the ps3 its the same game....

IF you want something different i can say you that the ps3 has motion controlls and the 360 not.

I'll give him 1 and 3. Live is easier to use to find friends and message and such. The DLC will make the game bigger. That's it. The DLC will cost. The online features cost. 1) as long as the PSN version has chat and friend invites, cool. 2)Controller? Really? I actually cramp up more with the 360 controller, using the trigger as a gas petal mostly. And I have a 12 foot USB cable I use with the PS3 controller. 3)Bigger is nice and all, but I never finished San Andreas. Got bored, just drove around for kicks. More land added in the DLC would be nice though. 4)HD cables. I didn't get HD cables with my 360, as a matter of fact, my 360 doesn't even have an HDMI port. 5) HDD Space. I store all of my media on the external 120gb drive, stream the other media from the PC and games, demos and content remain on the 200gb internal drive that I upgraded to. Nice feature. I completed San Andreas and I, like many many others, spent a lot of hours with this game running in my PS2. Considering this I'm expecting monumental hardware failures to plague the 360.

i'll be the first to agree that this story is a waste of life. i do have to call you on some points.
1. the use of xbox live is richer and more player friendly. just the fact that sending game invites and chatting to people, whether their in the same game as you or not makes a big difference.
2.yes no hd cables is a rough one to swallow. that was another 35 bucks i had to kick out. if sony is gonna hype the ps3 as a true HD experience, the least they can do is provide the means to see it that way.(plus the comment about no hard drive is dumb because you dont have to buy the arcade version, but no matter which ps3 package you buy there is no hd cables or head set)
3.some thing the guy didn't even bring up. where's the head set? sure as hell not in my ps3 box.and you can say what you want about it, but that is not cool.thats why when i play ps3 online alot of people aren't even talking.

Personally, i dont get it when people try to convince you to purchase GTAIV for their console of preference. If you have a 360 then buy it for 360. if you have a PS3, then buy for PS3. And for those who are saying people shouldn't downplay the DLC; we can downplay as much as you 'uplay' it. It's unconfirmed, and it's an experiment by Rockstar. ... I still haven't made my decision on which version to pick up -- and I will be picking up GTAIV. Of all the well documented and well supported pros/cons for each version I've come across, this article did not intelligently discuss any of them (they came close with the DLC paragraph).

The entire article was rife with contradictory sentiments (ex: expressing horror at the HDD space bogarted by a mandatory PS3 install, yet praising downloadable content for the 360; bemoaning the lack of included HD cables with the PS3, but oozing appreciation for recharge kits/battery packs not included with the 360 that were purchased separately).

The more articles like this I come across, the more I realize that I will never get a true idea of what version (if either) is better before April 29. I think I'll end up hanging back and waiting for reviews to come rolling in with some kind of consensus before I drop the green.

Take it or leave it, that is still your opinion. If it runs the same on both consoles it will always be your opinion. I am telling you with fact even if the DLC is the size of san andreas i won't get it. Unless it does something revolutionary and it is a whole new game then i'm not getting it.

As it is right now DLC is the ONLY advantage 360 version has at least in my eyes. Achievements custom sound tracks and a lot of that other stuff i would place ahead of DLC but they aren't as important to me as they are to other people.

Bottom line is buying 360 version over PS3 version remains a personal preference and not based on fact end of story

If you just read most people comments you begin to see that both consoles have the version that absolutely suits them best. Most Sony fans here say they didn't finish the last few games or got board with it for hours. They already have free online, why would they shell out for DLC? The reason the 360 has achievements is the fact that more of them will hunt down every little secret and complete every single mission. They already pay for a premium service so more than likely they will pay for DLC (and is 14 cents a day that much for live anyway?). Which version is better? Probably the one you pay more to play. We are arguing over a cheesburger and a cheesburger with bacon, bacon is a nice extra but ONLY when you want to spend the extra $ for it.

To be honest I finsiehd every single GTA.

GTAIII was most difficult, apart from the final mission on San Andreas.

Seeing is more than observing with the eye's my friend... You say that RRoD is a defensive meassure used by the anti 360 crowd. Though it may be a commonly used tactic it is not a fabricated event.. It is rooted in fact... You retort with this side by side comparisson of games whenever 90% of the cross plat. games are generally on par with one another.. RRoD is fact, 360 games being superior however, is not. It's an opinion. You cannot dispute fact with opinion... Developers have no incentives to make one version better then the other, unless they are paid to do so... Hence the money hat that microsoft gave rockstar. That content would never have been made otherwise. So to say that the 360 version is superior is happenstance.. Moreso the content wont be available for another 6 months at least! It's more like 2 reasons rather than 5. I mean the HHD, cable and controller are weak arguments. A cable costs 199 Swedish crowns and converted to USD its like 15$. Actually, the 360 is outsold by the PS3 consistently. There is only one region in the entire world where the 360 outsells the PS3, and that's North America. And they only BARELY outsell it here. The PS3 outsold the 360 in January & February in North America, then the 360 outsold the PS3 in March. So if anything you could call it a tug of war match here in America.

And after 2 straight months of 360 being outsold by PS3, when it came back to outsell the PS3 last month, it only did it by a few thousand. The PS3 still sold 98% as many consoles in March, so it's hardly like the 360 killed it in the competition, it was practically neck and neck, the winner just being a technicality. It's not winner take all you know.

And that's just in North America, in Europe, Asia, and Australia the PS3 outsells the 360. Nevermind that the 360 costs significantly less for a base model. So sales of the 360 are not a reason. It's just wrong.

And my final comment to you: Kojima may have said he was disappointed with the power of the PS3, but that only means that his goals are lofty for his game, not that the PS3 is weaker, and it by know means has anything to do with the Xbox 360. The logic doesn't lead to the 360 being more powerful. The fact that the PS3 isn't as powerful as one developer would have liked does not establish any relationship whatsoever between the PS3 and the 360. There's no reason to think that the 360 would have been powerful enough to do what Kojima wanted.

Here are their reasons, and easy counter-reasons:

1. XBOX Live : Oh really? Too abd it isn't free, and is an additional cost (and is relevant to new purchasers and current owners). So it isn't a factor, since you have to PAY for it in order to even be able to use the functionality. Let alone, XBOX 360 has no wireless adapters by default, so if you don't have an ethernet cable jack next to your console, you can't even access the internet.

2. Controller is pimp: I don't see anyone complaining about the PS2 controller for all the previous GTA series... It's personal preference, and I personally believe that this reason is awfully biased.

3. GTA IV is bigger on Xbox 360, and size matters: It's not bigger. It's the same size... And if anything, PS3's version is bigger because they'll probably fill up the Blu-Ray disc with additional redundant data to make loading times/seeking times faster. As for the DLC, it doesn't even exist yet, and it's not going to be free, and it isn't part of GTAIV unless you PURCHASE it. A non-factor. Biased once again.

4. We already own HD cables: That's a reason why GTAIV is better? Shouldn't that be a more of a jab at a console than a game version? Seriously, you "game journalists" are pretty sad. Off-topic.

5. GTA IV may eat our hard drives: The install improves overall game stability with framerates and loading times. If anything it HELPS. And just to be an ass, PS3 comes standard with a hard drive, while Microsoft forces their consumer to buy one of their "proprietary" HDD enclosures. Oh, and XBOX Live requires an HDD (what a bummer), those XBOX core owners sure are screwed aren't they?

Yeah, the batteries thing seemed like they had it backwards. Like they are complaining about everything on PS3 costing money, yet they never consider all the things they had to spend their money on for their console like DLC, Batteries, Chargers, Wireless adapter, Live, HDD, etc.

Reason 2....... 360 controller is PIMP. Nice way to put it.. idiots. My battery packs disconnects all the time. Most of my controllers need to be duct taped to be held in place without disconnecting. I prefer the built in battery in my PS3 controller. It's been around longer and I'm more accustomed to that.

Reason 3..... 360 version will be bigger. How do you know? That is all.

Reason 4..... PS3 comes without HD cables. That is completely irrelevant. If you already own a PS3 and an HDTV, chances are that you've already purchased an HDMI cable or component cables. If you can afford a PS3, you can afford HD cables, no problem.

play online with friends (ie, Warhawk, Resistance, Call of Duty, etc)

ALL.FOR.FREE.

for me, personally, those are all the features i need, and they work perfectly fine for me. since i get those for free on the PS3, why should i pay for them for Live (mostly online play)?

But that said, there are two reasons to purchase the Xbox 360 version over the PS3 version, if you have neither console.

1. You're buying a console ONLY for GTA single player, w/out DLC. Buy the Arcade.

2. You're buying a console specifically for (but not exclusively for) GTA and have intentions on purchasing the DLC. Buy the Premium.

I think that any other reasons are purely opinion or based on other games. Mind you I have not said why you should purchase the Ps3 version instead.

Edit: as a side note, I think that if a HDD had come standard in x360, installs would have been mandatory as well. As it is now, it can not be mandatory.

Comparing the 2, you'd be crazy not to think that the 360 version potentially offers more than the PS3 version. That is what Microsoft paid the 50 million dollar advance for. That's the way it is.

But some of these arguments that this guy made are just off the wall insane.

Controller?? No. I have a PS3 and had a 360, and in no way, shape, or form, is the 360 controller better than the PS3 controller, in my opinion. Bigger?? yes, but certainly not better. Complain about the fact that the USB cable is too short?? Well, spend 10 bucks and get a 8 foot USB extension cord. End of problem. In the long run, that is a lot cheaper than shelling out the money for batteries for the 360 controller, and at least it will keep charging while you play.

No HD Cable?? Come on!!!!!!. It would be an issue if you didn't own one of the systems already, but hardly an argument for those who already have one.

Lastly, the amount of hard drive space. Uhh.........what??? A 5 minute hard drive install will probably equate to about a 2 GB install, in my opinion. So, the reader complains that it would eat up his precious space for movies, music, and "other items". Oh, you mean the same hard drive that is NOT interchangable, unless you pay 180 bucks for the 120GB drive (which by the way, is the same price as a Toshiba 250GB hard drive that I bought for my PS3) which takes up 7GB of your hard drive space on a 20GB unit right out of the box?? That hard drive, you mean? Unless the same people who have been touting digital distribution as the wave of the future have no plans whatsoever to take advantage of this feature.

In conclusion, the only arguments that he has are XBOX Live and the Downloadable content, which, if it does add 10 hours of gameplay, God knows how big of a file that is going to be, so unless 360 owners have no plans to have anything else on their 20GB hard drive, it looks like they may have to pony up another 160-180 dollars just to be able to fit that content on their hard drives.

More comfortable controller? That's an opinion. I personally disagree with it. Love the DualShock 3 and think it's a better controller than the 360 one, but that's my opinion and I can appreciate people who disagree with it. Like it or not, there simply is no objective truth to which controller is better. It's subjective.

But the length of the charging cable that comes with it? What a ridiculous thing to complain about. MS doesn't even give you the charging cable with the console, or for that matter a rechargeable battery... out of the box you need to use AAs, and to buy the charge kit with the battery & cable, it costs like 20 dollars.

There's a website that sells 16 foot USB charging cables that can be used with the Dual Shock 3 for 2 bucks, and they sell the HDMI cable you can use with PS3 for 5 bucks. It's like 10 bucks for both, including shipping. So you get your HDMI cable and your longer charging cable for cheaper than the cost to just buy the battery & charging cable for the 360 controller.

So I ask, why do they occupy 2 out of the 5 reaons to play GTA IV on the 360 with that bull crap? It just plainly shows their bias towards the 360. This is the same website that called 360 the best videogame console of all time.

and for me, I personally don't like the way the 360 controller feel in my hands. I am already use to the PS2 control scheme for GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andras on the PS2 controller. I played 20 dollars for a rechargeable cable for my 360 controller because I don't feel like spending 3 dollars a week on new batteries.

I currently have two HDMI cables, one came with my Elite, and I play 5 dollars for the other one. Both work perfectly fine.

1) Terrible reason. It almost seemed as if they didn't know what else to say. PSN does offer robust online gaming. It's only a matter of time before in-game communication comes. The Xbox Live advantage is getting weaker and weaker and will continue to get weaker as Sony gets these features in.

1. All my friends are 360 owners. I have very few people that own a PS3
2. I love the 360 controller. Every time I have to switch to the PS3 from my xbox360, I am always cussing and fussing about the controller. I don't like it. The 360 does feel better for me specially in FPS and Racing games.
3. XBOX Live. Although I expect Sony to catch up with Live at some point, but at this point in time Live is my choice. It is so easy to communicate with other and get together..etc.

1) LIVE may be good with matchmaking, but PSN runs just as good, if not better. And plus with 2 recent network screw ups from LIVE (umm..COD4 anyone)....no thanks, I'll stick with PSN.

2)The controller is a personal choice.....so that don't count.

3)The game is big enough as it is...plus PS3 is going to have its own DLC in some form or another, plus people STILL don't really know what DLC will be. So it's rather moot.

4)Cables are a weak excuse....that can be easily solve with buying a 5 dollar HDMI cable from monoprice. Nothing to cry about.

5)HD's are upgradeable....so space is not an issue. And at least you are not stuck with a proprietary 120GIG drive that expensive as hell from MS.

Let me preface by saying I only own a Ps3. I think that, assuming they both look and play the same, the xbox360 version will be the better version, if only for the option of DLC. EVERY OTHER REASON is a difference between consoles, and not games, and are opinions, not facts. No one can say with a straight face that DLC is a negative. And few can say that they would they wouldn't rather have the OPTION two download than not have. All the other pros and cons are console specific and not game specific.

That being said, if you have the optimal 360 and you have the optimal ps3, the 360 version of the game is the better option.

I'm by no means rich, and niether are my friends but I simply don't know anyone who owns a 360 and does NOT suscribe to Xbox Live Gold, my view is that most people who want/buy a 360 do so because Live is a big part of gaming on 360. Seriously, who buys a 360 without a HDD? I mean obviously some do, I just haven't seen it and my theory is it must be young kids who most likely don't care much about online functionality and could care less about DLC anyway. Like I've said before, the DLC will be decent but not a must own. Here's why...if it were then Microsoft would push to get the rights to distribute the content in stores (via dvd). Yes...I know...EB Games may sell a card with the exact amount to buy the DLC, but what about those without the HDD? Microsoft obviously doesn't care about all of their patrons; otherwise they would push to get the "ULTIMATE GTA EXPERIENCE" for ALL 360 owners. To be honest, I'm getting the game for 360, because my brother doesn't have a PS3 and I want to play online with him. Other than that, it really doesn't matter to me which version I get. I say: What!? First of all, you don't need a new hard drive. I have the 80 GB PS3, and I have 4 games that required a 5 GB install on there, I have a bunch of HD videos and some music on their, as well as a few PSN games and some demos. And my HDD is not even quite half filled. I still have enough room for another couple of 5GB installs, as well. And if I fill it up after that, then I'll just delete an installation for a game I don't play anymore if I need the space. I have to do the same thing all the time with my 360, which only came with 20 GB, and I find myself having to delete something every time I want to download a new demo. So it's not really a fair price comparison to add the price of a hard drive to the price of a PS3 when it's not essential.

And as far as HD cables go... you can get them 5 bucks. If you're paying 50, you're a gullible fool. Just thought i'd throw that out there.

That article was nothing but fail...the only argument they won is on DLC.

1) Of course XBL is better than PSN, for you are actually paying for the premium. As for PSN, it does offers an easy friend and match making, with robust online. Only thing it lacks atm is communication, but that should be fixed with in-game XMB and Home. And all that being FREE.

2) No talk about the Six Axis feature? The 360 controller is more or less the same as the DS3. The buttons are in the same location. Only difference is that the analog stick and d-pad is swapped around on the 360, and that the DS3 has motion sensing.

3) DLC is the only reason to go for the 360, that's its only selling point for this title.

4) Lol, now we are talking about cables, that's being desperate.

5) 360 has an optional install also, to improve performance and loading times. There are some minor pop-in without install. Now the arcade sku has no hard drive (so why complain about HD space in the first place, when you do not have an HD), the sku's with hard drives are mostly 20gb, where 16gb is free. That means with install and dlc, you might drop down to 6-8gb. Lets not take about upgrade hard drive (over 100 bucks).

I'm so tired of hearing about GTA4 - PS3/Xbox360? articles. They are becoming more and more system compared. It's not about the system, the hardware, or anything. I played GT5P with the Sixaxis recently. Real nice that they put the left analogue stick in the middle of the controller. You don't get the same precision as on the 360 controller. I got aware of it instantly and went "what the f___ is this?". Then I had to push the 'x' button to accelerate, probably because the triggers suck too much to be used for that. Nice touch also that you switch views on the miniature select button. It had me crash more than once.

Sorry, but at this very moment Microsoft's campaign for getting people to play GTA4 on 360 looks desperate, VERY desperate. While this blog may not be officially associated with MS it's as if this is trying to scramble together every possible tidbit for the 360 in an attempt to turn people away from the PS3 without actually giving the PS3 it's dues, everything other than the in-game messaging is present on the PS3, by the time this 360 DLC comes out the PS3 will have igXMB and most likely Home too, so the 'full experience on 360' slogan just won't wash anymore.

By all means go out and buy GTA4 for 360, but it'll perform better on the PS3 framerate-wise. Lets just look at some of the last few big multiplats; Burnout Paradise (Smoother on PS3), R6V2 (Better visual performance on PS3), DMC4 (Better on PS3, mainly due to the controller), COD4 (Scored higher on PS3). Looks like GTA4 will follow the ever growing trend. ROFL I haven't visited GameDaily pretty much since they launched years back up until now. They were bias then and are still bias now. Their editors are mostly young adults (18-21 year olds) despite the fact that they try to come off as being older and are pretty retarded to boot. Marichuu, that's precisely why this article was crap. Half his argument is just trying to make the PS3 out to be the worse system than the 360 and has absolutely nothing to do with the game itself. Not to mention that the issue with the controller recharge cord if about as lame an argument as you can make. He complains that the length is too short? Well, why not complain that the 360 controller doesn't come with a recharge cable at all? How about the fact that if the cable that came with the PS3 isn't long enough for you, you can buy a longer one for 2 bucks online, which is what I did.

The point is, some of the guy's arguments are totally invalid, like the one above, others are mostly inconsequential (you can get an HDMI cable for 5 bucks from the same website I got my charge cable for 2 bucks... total 10 bucks including shipping). He tries to make mention of all the accessory issues with the PS3 (doesn't come with headset or HDMI cable, charge cable too short). Then, he fails to mention any of the nagging problems that the 360 has as far as accessories are concerned (no wifi out of the box & way overpriced wireless adaptor, headset tethers you to your controller & way overpriced wireless headset, small and overpriced hard drive options, have to pay extra for a rechargeable battery & charge kit) and finally, he bases part of his argument on which controller is better, which is subjective and pointless to discuss as a reason for anything (you know, most people are familiar with playing GTA games with the Playstation controller anyway).

Shows what you know. That's NOT a fact. Why would I want the option to pay for AA batteries every few hours of gameplay when I can just recharge my controller from the USB port? The 360 controller is wireless and does not come with the rechargeable battery. So it's 50 bucks plus 20 bucks for the battery & charge cable... total = 70. The DualShock 3 is only 55, and you don't have to buy the charge cable, it comes with the system. So they complain that the length of the cable that was free with the PS3 is shorter than the legnth of the cable you have to buy extra for the 360? That's just stupid! If the PS3 cable really isn't long enough for you, get a 16 foot replacement online for 2 bucks. Still paying less for your PS3 controller with recharging capability, and you now have a longer cable than the one that comes with the 360 charge kit.

And if you don't know the best place online to buy HDMI cables, USB cables, various AV cables, etc. for extremely low wholesale prices (even for a single unit!) then that's your fault. But there's a place. Find it. I'm not going to advertise for them (despite how much I love them), but you should do some research.

1. You don't pay to play - PSN is free, so playing with friends won't cost you any more than your ISP. Sure, X Box Live's annual fee is annual, and only $50 per year, but in essence, you are sacrificing the cost of one game every year, in order to play online. Imagine, if you will; buying Gears of War 2 this fall, or renewing your X Box Live subscription this fall. wouldn't you rather play Gears of War 2, than have to cough up that $50 for Live? Personally, i don't feel the need to pay any more than what i do for my ISP. another factor to consider is that for online play, the PS3 has nearly all of the vital features necessary to have an enjoyable online game. invites, chatting (via voice and text), ranking, etc. it's all there. one or two minor features (ie, cross game chat; seriously, if your buddy wants to play GTAIV with you, he/she'll probably ALREADY be playing GTAIV, and there'd be no need to interrupt his game of Uncharted or Ratchet and Clank, just to pester him to join your game) aren't enough to go screaming through the rafters "OMFG, LIVE OBLITERATES THE PSN!!!".

2. More than just rumble - The Dual Shock 3 rumbles...but it also allows motion controls. I'm not sure on the specifics of motion controls in GTAIV, but i personally enjoy it when the motion controls are subtly implemented; ie, controlling the arc of the grenade in Uncharted, unlocking doors and controlling a free-falling Ratchet in Tools of Destruction, doing a quick jerk to have Nariko do an areal counter in Heavenly Sword. worse comes to worse, GTAIV will probably have such subtle implementation. this helps with the immersion in a way that mere rumble just can't.

3. The controller is the de facto standard in gaming - I don't know about you, but i've yet to see any 3rd party controllers aping the design of the X Box/X Box 360 controllers. the Playstation controller has been around for over 11 years, and is truly one of the most versatile designs in the industry. for me, the 360 controller has the better triggers, but the bumpers, digital pad, and face buttons are, to put it bluntly, weak. the PS3 controller has weak L2 and R2 triggers, but everything from the face buttons, digital pads, L1 and R1 buttons, and tweaked analog sticks are as good as it gets.

4. Smooth as butter - people can complain about installs all they want, but the truth is that with that mandatory install, EVERY Playstation 3 owner who picks up GTAIV will benefit from, i'm sure, increased load times, and smoother frame-rates, not to mention less graphical pop-in. caching to the hard drive is an important way to improve a games stability and playability. the 360 version has an optional install, but not every 360 owner will be able to utilize this function, due to the lack of HDDs standard in every 360 (sorry Core and Arcade users). it remains to be seen if the 360 version will suffer from frame-rate issues and texture pop-in, but games like Mass Effect, which were quite impressive visually, suffered from similar issues, due to not being able to cache to the hard drive.

5. Playstation Home - Home hasn't been released yet, sure, but it's already been confirmed that GTAIV will implement Home features. this can range from anything from clothes for your Home avatar, wallpapers, exclusive videos/trailers, Home exclusive mini-games, and a "Liberty City Square," where players can take their Home avatar into the streets of Liberty City themselves, and maybe even use their avatar in GTAIV's multi-player mode. this is all speculation, of course, but not out of the realm of possibility with Home, and really only scratching the surface of what the service can do.

this is all my personal opinion, and are only five of many reasons why i, personally, am picking up GTAIV on my PS3, and in my list, i didn't even touch hardware reliability and other things. out of all the Grand Theft Auto games i've played (GTA, GTAIII, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, and Vice City Stories), GTAIII was the ONLY ONE i ever completed. i'm still chipping away at San Andreas, but since GTAIV is coming out next week Tuesday, i don't think i'll be going backwards, sadly.

the point i'm trying to make is that the initial helping of GTA is plenty enough for ME. i just can't see myself ever needing DLC for a GTA game, and most certainly not within 6-9 months after it's release. i've been playing GTA San Andreas on my PS2 for FOUR YEARS.

what it really boils down to is personal preference. some people will want to play GTAIV for dlc and the controller, others won't. what matters is just getting the damn game already, and having a great time with it, which is GUARANTEED to be the case across both platforms. all this nitpicking is truly ridiculous. it's not like one version of the game is suddenly going to be missing a vital feature, like, i don't know, removing the single player element from the PS3 version, or the multi-player element from the 360 version. it's just a few minor tweaks here and there, but nothing deal-breaking for either platform.

Live being better than PSN is argumentative; but what isn't argumentative is the fact that PSN is free. mandatory install actually works to the game's benefit, contrary to no install, which will give you lower frame rates, pop-ins and longer load times. this is one of the reasons i opted for the PS3 version. even if i got it for the 360 i would've opted for the install, which would've decreased my already limited hdd space (only got about 12 gigs out of 20 left). why do that when i can just install it on my 60gb (45gb remaining) PS3?

Online. Touchy subject for some 360 owners when Sony aficionados mention "Free Online". The ONLY features that 360 has over PSN at the moment is media download. That's it. Let's not mention in-game dashboard because PS3 is getting that too. But come on, Sony already announced that they're releasing a Media distribution method (let's not forget that Sony is one of the biggest Media producers in the world) and will be applying that feature this year. What else will you fanboys argue? That Sony doesn't have as much spam as the 360 dashboard? Because I know for a FACT that all I see when I turn on my 360, and log on to my $50 a year account, is a bunch of spammed advertisements which I could give two craps about. I am a fanboy of games, and i own ps3 and 360. The "non" fanboy who owns both systems will usually go with the 360 just because it has extra content coming in the future. i've read several placed other than here of people complaining about spending too much on an HDMI cable. all i have to say is $2.50 + shipping is too much? just search on amazon and you can get some nice HDMI cables for cheap. i still don't know how the major retailers have managed to screw people outta 30+ bucks on HDMI cables with some reaching up to $100... remember this when buying these cables: the video/audio signal is DIGITAL. it's just a bunch of 1s and 0s, so high quality gold plated titanium shiznit to the seventh power is not needed!

The constant streaming off the disk is going to crash 50% of the worlds 360s. The machine is a piece of junk and GTA4 is going to be very taxing on the drive. The worst article on N4G I have ever read, it's primarily based on opinion, and poorly defended opinions at that.

The whole controller rant is the most idiotic things I have ever heard from a hardcore gamer, especially since they don't mention that the Play and charge kit costs and extra ~$20. Since when is the 360 wireless the preferred method of control for GTA, it's been a Playstation game since inception (not counting GTA 2 on DC, GBA ones don't count).

Why does everyone keep mentioning xbox live and it's superiority, I have both PS3 and 360 and have run into more issues with Live than the PSN (I'm talking about downtime).

The whole argument about in-game communication is BS since in a few months in-game XMB will be out, which will make the whole communication argument a non factor.

Is DLC 6 months from now going to be a big issue, I think not. The Fall is littered with AAA titles that are sure to put this in the back burner (relative to the blockbuster titles coming out around that time on both consoles).

That HD cable argument is a joke, The Arcade and Pro sku's do NOT come with HDMI, only the Elite model, and component only goes to the Pro and Elite. HDMI cables are cheap and the PS3 uses the same AV cables that work with the PS1,PS2 and now PS3 including component and VGA (if you some how have this ultra rare VGA cable). So people who upgrade their PS2 who use component are fine, the cables are only $20 anyway, HDMI can be bought cheap too.

The HDD argument is also flawed, a bunch of 360 games install themselves to the HDD without you knowing including Halo 3 (requires the HDD for co-op splitscreen), Burnout Paradise requires the HDD to play on Live too. Installs are not an issue (maybe to new gamers but not PC gamers of yore), they help the game load faster and also help them run better (you can install GTA 4 on the 360 HDD by the way). Console install times are still nothing compared to PC game install times, so the newbies can shut the fuc* up about waiting a few mins for an install. If the author is so worried about space on their HDD they should get a 120GB HDD otherwise they should get an external HDD for the music and videos (only if they are NOT from Live). Live Requires the Official 360 HDD's to d/l any media from live including; movies, games, demos, tv shows, music videos, and some themes/gamer pics.

This article is complete nonsense. Let me break it down.

Multiplayer: Unlike XBL's inferior P2P network, PSN has Dedicated servers which are much more reliable. Plus, whenever a hot title comes out and a lot of users log on to XBL it has the tendency to crash.

Controls: So feeding your controller AA batteries is a good thing? At least Sony had the common sense to use lithium Ion batteries in their controllers. They go longer on a charge and you don't have to replace them. The gameplay was designed for Sony's controller to begin with!

DLC: Wow, 10 hrs of gameplay. Who really finishes GTA games in the first place? Not to mention, by the time all the DLC comes out, there will be like a dozen better games out already. This is a disturbing trend in my opinion. What if they just started selling games to us in peices? I can hear Bill Gates licking his chops.

Install Time: As a PS3 owner I would install every game if I had the option. I can buy a 300gb HDD for cheaper than a 360 owner can buy a 120gb proprietary HDD. Not to mention I use an external HDD on my PS3 for non game related files. I'm not worried about running out of space anytime soon. Installing games ensures that they run smooth and cuts down on loading time. You waste more time sitting throught the same loading screen every time you play a game than taking 5min. to install it when you first get it. I have a feeling that 360 owners will opt to install it as well since the game suffers significant graphical issues w/o the install.

This article is very misleading. It's not that its bad to be pro 360, but it doesn't have a single positive thing to say about Sony, and in turn loses credability.

Dude this article is for sure 360 fanboy written. Hey what can I say I own both consoles, Sony is a hardware manufacturing company and Microsoft is a software company. Hence why the 360 has such a fleshed out software cataloge and OS (the blades system and in game messaging) and the hardware is melting down (RROD and power supplies) b/c Microsoft is a software company first. Sony has always been hardware oriented first, just look at all their non gaming product lines, hence why they could take huge losses with "superior hardware" over the 360. I'm sure the arguments against paying for Live is the fact you can practically buy another game by just paying the Live fee. Huh? GTA has been a Sony game since inception, so it makes since that people want the sixaxis/DS3 for GTA4. I love the 360 wireless, but as most people say it's better for FPS games not GTA (did you ever play GTA on the original xbox, the controls were crap compared to the PS controls). well i have to say i disagree on your point about the controller.

the only games that i prefer the ps pad for are fighting games like tekken and street fighter. Everyother game type i prefer the 360 pad. which controller you prefer is most definitely a matter of personal opinion.

i hate the positions of the analogue sticks on the ps pads, they just feel wrong in my hand.

infact at one point or the other you may find you have had to take more then just the 360 back to the shops. I know i have taken mobiles back, vcr's, hell my first 32" hdtv blew the moment i plugged it into the power socket. i had a choice of waiting about 2 weeks for someone to come out and look at it, or i could take it back to the shop and swap it. I had to book a cab and carry it from my bedroom ( this was one of the samsung 32 crt hd sets ) it was heavy as fu£K, still things break, go faulty...

i have replaced my 360 once and thats it. Not had any problem since then. i have not had any sleepless nights wondering if i am going to wake up to a smoking pile of rubble. Still i do know a lot of people have had problems, ya i guess its a pain and i do agree M$ should have done i much, much better job of the quality control. Rushing it seems to have been one of the worst discission they made and its hurt.

However, none of my friends go on about how they are not getting this game, or that game cos they are worried about it RROD-ing on them.

Am sorry I have owned a PS3 and the PSN is terrible, no official headset and you have to spend ages trying to find the right bluetooth headset that has good reviews and even then it means forking out loads of money or the cheap ones mean they hurt and are rubbish.

Over 17million 360's sold with around 8+million on Xbox Live vs how many PS3's sold and how many on PSN?

Xbox user interface is superb one button press for nearly everything, check messages whilst doing anything, send and receive you can do soo much and everything is superb and simple.

Also the 360 controller is the best controller sorry but it is, the feel is perfect and it doesnt feel cheapy nor is it 'see-through' and it rumbles...Oh and nice of Sony to have stolen the guide button idea from Microsoft but at least with the 360 the guide button does a lot more than Sony's machines.

When it comes to gaming the 360 is the better choice Sony loyalists and die-hard fans will want only the PS3 and keep on going on about RROD like a broken record.

You want to play GTA 4 the way it was meant to be played and most likely without washed out colours? Get yourself a 360 and GTA 4, throw in Xbox Live for £29 a year yeah thats right go on ebay and you can get 13month codes for £29 a year!!!

So for their reasoning that is a pretty stupid argument. Memory is no issue on a system where swapping the hardrive is fairly simple. Most people are not part of the HD revolution yet so bundling the capable with the system isn't necessary.

Considering I have everything to counter act this argument including a long wire to charge my controller, this argument is a joke and will probably be stupid for anyone else. The controller argument is stupid considering the game was first mapped out for the Playstation controller. Honestly besides the extra content, which you'll probably have to dish out a lot of cash for, there is no reason to choose the 360 over the PS3.

sony made their system to be the end all next gen home entertainment blah blah blah. It's supposed to be the highest def with the best games and the most innovation. and yet, despite that, it doesn't even come with a high def cable. they made a very good point here, who cares if a majority of homes don't have HD TVs yet, if we bought a system that bragged about how next gen it was, don't you think we all expected it to at least be HD out of the box?

you made up reasons in your head that YOU (and probably a lotta fan boys) THINK counter their arguments. but they don't. you have to buy a replacement hard drive (that's more cash), buy a longer chord charger, you don't have the option of using regular batteries, you don't have additional content, you don't have a solid or even 'okay' online system, you do have to install a big portion of the game, you do have the same basic controller style (minus the features they stole from nintendo and xbox like motion detection and pressure sensitive triggers).

So every point they made was a good point, and it's only the unfortunate PS fan boys who suffer from all this. Nobody is saying if you already bought the ps3 you should sell it and get a 360. i'm sure you're still gonna get a great game. but if you have the choice, get the gta on 360. and THAT is the point of the article. but please...cry more. i love when fan boys spread their fan boy propaganda so i can rip their arguments to shreds.

The Dutch TV program 'Kassa' has discovered a lot of PS3's BluRay diodes/lasers die. Mostly the 40GB models have problems.

well this article is definitely going to piss off a lot of PS3 owners who swear up and down they have the best system even though all the reasons listed here are absolutely tru. not to mention the fact that sony owners have no good games so they're dying for this one and this article basically says "you bought your system because you knew if nothing else you'd get GTA" and now the 360 has the better version.

99% of the people who read this article are playstation owners who are going crazy over the fact that they bought the wrong system. don't blame the people who own 360s, we just made the right consumer decision.
