Mark Rein confirms mods will be coming to Unreal Tournament 3 on 360

Talking to OXM at the Midway Gamers Day in Las Vegas, Epic president Mark Rein confirmed that the best mods will be available to players of the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3, although details are still being worked out. "We know some of these great mods are going to play a role on Xbox 360, even if we have to get some people and bring them over ourselves," he said. "We'll figure it out."

Fishy Fingers5850d ago

Sounds like they'll be putting a few of the better MoDs on Live. That's good of them, as long as they remain free.

Glad to be a gamer5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

so smooth just like doa4 only a few occasions have i experience lag when playing people in japan. I hope tekken 6 will be as good exp online.

Secondly this is great news i was so hoping that mods would be announced. Well done epic for coming up with a solution and not forsaking your fans that own 360's.

Split screen and mods who would have thought it? sweet.

Edit WHOOPS! meant to post in thread 2.

Statix5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

I kinda wonder what will be the extent of the selection mods that will be distributed through XBL. Could just be a couple of the major mods that don't violate any copyright regulations. I guess it would be a no-go and a big no-no to Microsoft/Epic to being able to play as Solid Snake or MC or any other unnofficial game character in the 360 version, or whatever mods that contain copyrighted stuff.

sonarus5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

Not probably statix. No mod support period. Their plan is to track down the best mods and make it available thru xbox live. I wonder if they will charge for them i truly hope not. Anyways the mods won't be as much as ps3 since it is not real mod support but it is better than nothing.

Sorry to sound so negative guys but this still isn't mod support but great job on epics part though for making those mods available. Already have it on ps3 so this news doesn't really affect me. Great job on epics part though. Lets just wait and see how much mod support 360 version will get

MikeMichaels5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

Mark is using the 360 fanboys to help sell his game.

Pulling their little strings with comments like....it's gonna look a little better, we promise. Now it's, ummm...yeah, were going to try to put mods up...somehow. Even though it impossible to keep up with the scene considering all the red tape (ie certification and such) they have to go through for any type of addon pack.

He'll saying anything to get them worked up and its sad that allot of them will fall for it.

Just look at morons like Jason360...eating it up! hahahaha.

fenderputty5850d ago

It still suck that it's not full blown support but, it's better then just 5 extra maps. lol

sonarus5850d ago

Most 360 owners have already written the game off. No one likes a game that is late to the party.

5850d ago
NO_PUDding5850d ago

Well, these mods won't come with the game. Becuase then you'd be paying for it. And that would be illegal.

It sounds like they are actually goign to hire soem of the mod creators to help them, becuase then he says "even if we have to get some people and bring them over ourselves".

Crazy dude.

marichuu5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

*deleted*

Megaton5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

I wonder which ones they'll be getting. There are tons of great mods and maps.

Snarf pack? Tiberium? Odysseus? Sharlow Street? Tokay Towers? Campgrounds 2k8? Siege Reactor? ...I could go on all day.

Glad to be a gamer5850d ago

the fact that Epic are using this as a solution is commendable. I am cynical as well as to how they will manage to update this regularly as the mod scene progresses. I suppose we will see how it goes

Only problem is with ninja gaiden 2,Mgs4 and gta4 round the corner i wonder if gamers will pick this up?

We get mods, extra exclusive maps, and better graphics :)

skynidas5850d ago

and u got it 8 months later

5850d ago
Vip3r5850d ago

But no keyboard and mouse support. :)

Bathyj5850d ago

You still wont buy it. Just like no one bought Virtua Fighter 5.

MattFoley5850d ago

Not true there is an adapter.

marichuu5850d ago

@Jason
I bet you won't even be able to tell the difference as the game is too fast for details.

@happyjimmy
That comment tells me more about you than him.

@Vip3r
If I wanted keyboard and mouse, I'd be playing on a PC... they just don't belong on consoles.

@Matt
Yes, which Microsoft doesn't approve.

JasonPC360PS3Wii5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

FEAR, Lost Planet, Oblivion, The Orange Box, Stranglehold, Blazing Angles 2, GRAW, Condemned 2, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell DA, Medal of Honor, Fatal Inertia, Sonic, TimeShift, and The Darkness?

Statix5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

You mean you got a few mods (probably just a couple new game modes and maps) that they select for you.

JasonPC360PS3Wii5850d ago

I can make a mod and distribute on Live, no matter how the process is done, I can still get my mod on Live. That would be called "mod support" no matter how you try and spin, if I can get my mod on Live then thats what it is.

Statix5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

No one knows the extent of the "mod support" in the 360 version, but I highly doubt it will be the same as the open architecture and system as the PS3 version, where anyone can download and install any mod they want. The mods have to be officially approved, sanctioned, and processed/reprogrammed by both Epic AND Microsoft's certification process before they can be distributed through XBL, which means you can say goodbye to playing with copyrighted assets/alternate game characters, or goodbye to some of the smaller, more obscure mods.

This is definitely not full-blown mod support like the PS3, for sure. This is more like Epic doing a favor to the disadvantaged 360 fans by porting a couple of the more major, popular mods that exist out there.

EDIT: And don't phantom-disagree with me just because I actually read the article, put up an informed, corroborated argument, and proved you wrong. You know who you are.

Soren the Cat5850d ago

Who needs mods, extra maps, and a better graphics? I don't even look at that stuff!

mistertwoturbo5850d ago

Seriously, the inconsistency is ridiculous. I could quote that UTIII "sucks" or "we'll be playing gears 2 instead" back when it first came out on the PS3. But now it comes out on the 360 all I see is "Yay, we have mods, splitscreen, and better graphics!"

I thought no one cared about UT III? I thought mods didn't matter? I thought all that was wanted was "5 official epic made" maps?"

Ri0tSquad5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

So it took them 8 months to get the feature...and whats your point again? Mark Rein is just trying give 360 owners a reason to buy a game PS3 owners have enjoyed months ago.

Jason360 continuously getting owned by the same garbage he spews out is becoming old news.

Homicide5850d ago

I'm gonna point and laugh if you need to pay for mods.

marichuu5850d ago

@Homicide
First you'll have to point and laugh at the ones who even buy the game :p
UT3 just isn't needed on the 360, Halo 3 is enough to keep the sci-fi fps fans happy. UT is just old and not fun.

Bad_Karma5850d ago

you aint getting mods unless microsoft put them on XBL plain and simple and there is no way on this earth that you personally are gonna be uploading mods to XBL unless you work for Microsoft which you dont AND if you do get mods ,enjoy paying for them lol coz if microsoft can make a buck out of you they damn sure will regardless of what EPIC wants . As for you extra exclusive maps ..lol .. how long do you think it will take someone to cook those for PC and PS3 ? (if they are worth it ) .

marichuu5850d ago

@2.16
Sorry to disappoint you, but Kane & Lynch just got a FREE addon on XBL :p

5850d ago
Bad_Karma5850d ago

Sorry but the only thing disappointing about that is that they actually made DLC for such a shyte game ... OFC the DLC for it is free .. the game should be too .

marichuu5850d ago

@2.19
Oh don't say that, if it was free I'd actually try the game xD

ScottEFresh5850d ago

PLEASE...this isn't the same thing as OPEN mods. You won't be able to d/l things off the net then just put it in with a USB stick. You'll have to WAIT just like your WAITING NOW until they "release" it on XBL. Awww too bad so sad...another gimped game thanks to the gimpbox 360.

@1.5

You're delusional. Putting these mods on the Xbox 360 isnt a technical problem. Every word on the matter has always been "we need to work out how, because we want to maintain high reliability and security for the consoles and LIVE".

They dont want rampant cheating and security threats -- AND NEITHER DO I.

It would be *TRIVIALLY* easy to write a mod that launched a DDoS (or other disaster) to some kind of trigger. How about writing random garbage to your EEPROMS?

I dont want that junk on my console. I have the ability to restatge my PC, so I'm not worried about such things on my PC, but a console is *not* a PC.

All that said -- MS isnt screwing anyone. They're using their heads, Sony is going to get kicked in the balls for this and when they do, I expect *YOU* back here saying how MS was right all along.

PSMonster215850d ago

If by mods you mean three maps epic selects to put on the marketplace for 10 bucks then wooo YOU GET MODS!!! HAVE FUN!

Statix5850d ago (Edited 5850d ago )

For the very last time, THERE ARE NO MODS IN THE XB360 VERSION. If you would actually READ what Mark Rein is saying, and read the damn article, you'd realize that what he meant by "mods" is that they couldn't get Microsoft to allow the XB360 owners to freely install any mods they download, so they're doing a favor to the 360 fans by personally PORTING a COUPLE of the more popular mods themselves, by hand, and distributing them through XBL as downloadable add-ons (possibly for a price).

You people just DON'T GET IT: There are NO MODS FOR THE 360 version. What you'll basically end up getting, according to the words of Mark Rein, is probably around 5-6 extra game modes or so, and a couple new maps. This is compared to the 2000+ mods, maps, and characters that are available for free to the PS3 version of the game.

THERE ARE NO MODS ON THE 360 VERSION. Sorry to break it to the dyslexic 360 fans out there.

He is talking about maps that you will have to buy at the cost of 15 bucks per map because it has to be sold through Live!

Tech Focus - Motion Blur: Is It Good For Gaming Graphics?

Opinion is divided on this one for sure! Is motion blur good for gaming? Why do developers include it?

TheOptimist2131d ago

I hate any game that has motion blur and the first thing I do is switch off the motion blur in games. It just makes me nauseous.

XentaJones2130d ago

motion blur makes me sick... so its off.

OpenGL2130d ago

I agree with Alex here, many implementations are terrible but when it is done right it improves the experience.

TheSplooge2130d ago

I always turn it off. Along with depth of field.

Let’s be Honest, DOOM Looks like the Best First Person Shooter We’ve Seen in Ages

Alex from GamersFTW writes:

“In all seriousness though, I feel like DOOM’s success will be measured by how much the game has to offer. Graphically it’s looking spectacular, and I’m sure the latest multiplayer trailer caught all of our attention. Personally, the game is beginning to remind me of those late nights playing Unreal Tournament 3, which is totally a good thing. This, in addition to the promise of user-generated content, is making DOOM look like the best first-person shooter I’ve seen in ages.”

The campaign looks brilliant, like a true nostalgia trip to the original DOOM titles of old! The multiplayer equally looks like a trip down memory lane to fast-paced and frantic arena games a-la Quake, and honestly the MP REALLY makes me want to the get game at launch to capitalise on the hype. Problem is I'm not overly fussed with multiplayer typically in games, they can get weary after a while, and buying a game solely for its MP is risky - especially on console - as it's heavily dependant on the community!

Rock to my left, hard place to my right..

EDIT: On the MP note, does anyone know if it'll have bots available, similar to Unreal Tournament 3? I still give that a quick play time to time with bots (and all the mad mutators).

c00lvilKid692961d ago

I’m exactly the same, usually multiplayer games are of no interest to me. But DOOM has sparked my curiosity, especially as someone who used to enjoy multiplayer first person shooters like Quake/Unreal. Totally understand your concerns about it being heavily dependant on the community, too. Which is just another reason they should include bots, in case the numbers need to be made up. I’m hoping the community will be good, considering the creative freedoms they’re handing over with the SnapMap thing.
