GTA IV 360 has optional HD install

VG247: "This could be very funny. According to "skip" - Andrew Pfister, the writer of 1up's GTA IV preview - has posted on Neogaf saying that the PS3 version of GTA IV features a five-minute mandatory install. Unsurprisingly, teh internets have gone grade A crackers for it.

We're also reliably informed this morning that the 360 version features an "optional install" as well."

Either rockstar is keeping it a secret due to some ps3 deal, the dude was confused, rockstar took it out for one reason or the other. If the ps3 version does have split screen and 360 doesn't. Take it or leave it but that right there makes ps3 version definitive. Though i don't know how the hell split screen would work in a game like GTA4. But even if it is limited to the same game modes as offered in the online, it is still a HUGE advantage over the 360 version

As of right now I believe your imagining things, especially when Rockstar doesn't want the PS3 version appearing as the inferior version. that was leaked out early but supposedly pulled for some reason or another. It was posted here on N4G more than in one capacity. People argued / debated it's validity. But the person that "supposedly" reviewed the game mentioned all the same things that are now being mentioned by other previews and hands on articles.

It appears that the person that wrote that early review did in fact play both versions. Both games are going to be awesome. I personally would say why argue that but I know this is the land of fanboys and flamewars and it will only fall on deaf ears.

Just purchase the game for the system of your liking and move along. Does my opinion or anyone else other than your own really mean that much to you?

This might be a new stipulation that was allowed upon Rockstar. Just look at the recent event with Capcom and the lifting of the file size cap that MS granted them. If there is any chance that a muliplatform game will run better on the PS3 because of a small technical issue, MS will most likely grant the developer certain perks if the game is of a certain caliber.

You know, I never even thought of having an optional install. It would do wonders for Oblivion and Mass Effect. Perhaps they could patch these games...at least Mass Effect, that would make the game playable for me. As it stands the pop-in and the stutter kills the experience for me. I'm still geting GTA4 but something just isn't right with the reviews from what I have been reading, they almost sound like a freaking preview. if there was an option, i install the whole game to hard drive. i hate working out the laser and drive motor on my blu-ray drive. to date most laser consumer products i have owned have failed because after prolonged use the laser and motor packs up.

the blu-ray is not easily changeable whereas the hard drive in the ps3 is super fast, cheap as chips, easily changeable and extremely reliable. notice that the blu-ray drive might not fail so easily over a long period of time if each blu-ray game disc was in perfect condition - however since most game disc get scratches and abuse over time the laser and motor has to work harder to read the data - thus causing it to fail. also the more often the disc spins in the drive the more likely it gets scratched.

320gig for 150 dollars is good enough for most people - since you only do manadatory installs for your MOST PLAYED games. the games that you don't play so often can live with optional installs. i will at any one time have 5/6 most played games. 5/6 x 25 (even then the average ps3 game won't even take up 25gig) = 125/150 gigs. this leaves me with around 150 gigs free which covers the bases pretty well.

you obviously haven't had a laser fail on you yet. and i guarantee the blu-ray will fail sooner than you wish. I have had three ps2 fail on me because of the laser so i don't mind being patient.

The game will run better because of it, but those that don't have the hdd won't be shut out from playing the game. Their experience won't be any better without one, but at least they will be able to play the game. I will be doing this install since I do have one.

The PlayStation 3 version has to be dumbed down so the Xbox 360 version doesn't choke to death with higher quality rendering. The rendering in The Getaway 3 are really exciting for the PlayStation 3 fans. We just hope it will pull it off.

Why are these reports even getting on the Web? Wasn't this known weeks ago? I remember reading how the PS3 version has a mandatory install and the 360 version has the option. Without the 360 install the game doesn't run very well. The install makes GTAIV run and load better. Anyone with the 360 version should do the install. The only reason you wouldn't is you have no hard drive. This was just a way to make sure the game could be played on all 360s.

Rockstar requires a 5 min. install. That's still a hell of a lot better than Crapcom's 25 min. install.

And do you know why? Because Rockstar knows that the speed difference between a 2X Blu-Ray drive and a 12X DVD Drive is only 1 megabyte per second. Which DOESN'T translate to minutes of extra load times the way Crapcom would have you believe, but is in fact only seconds.

So this 5 min. install should show Crapcom how it's done, and I will LMFAO at all the 360 fanboys who WILL be hypocrites and bash the PS3 for this when the 360 has an install (optional though) as well.

We should start a betting pool on how many 360 fanboys use the install. I'm betting 90% of them do and won't admit it.

Ironically enough, Microsoft doesnt want consoles to be like PCs. Thats why you have to go through an insane approval process for patches, thats why patches are limited to 4mb, and thats why they force developers to not be lazy and do installs.

Is obvious that PS3's version of GTAIV will not only look better , but play better. So what if their's a 5 minute install. I would rather have a great game like this playing smoothly without any problems. The problem with Xbox360 is that its a year behind the PS3 and its hardware is outdated when compared to PS3. I think both systems look great, but PS3 in the long run has more room for advanced graphics , its envelope hasn't even been pushed. Thats why this year will be in the PS3's favor as a huge line-up of big games will show what this little baby can do. I find it funny that we have to have console wars to see who is better, sony or microsoft.

Sony playstation has been around alot longer. I admit that both systems have their big name games such as Halo series and Metal Gear Solid Series. I don't think we need a console war to prove which is better because either way you look at it, one will always be over the other. I think Microsoft quickly rushed their system out while Sony decided to fine tune their's. Even though its a year behind its still a year ahead when it comes to the capabilities. All systems have glitches so we can't rule that in because thats why they release fixes. They have to slowly iron out these.

And with GTAIV who knows what the game will offer. All the review give it alot of hype along with a lot of screenshots that make the game look great. But alot of games have had this kind of incredible hype and let us all down, so lets just hope it brings the expectations of what everyone wants.

And hope for no delays.....
