Mortal Kombat 1: Playing on the defense

Destructoid: There are certain games and franchises that it's popular for gamers to despise. Final Fantasy VII, Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, Madden, Dynasty Warriors, etc. On occasion someone will champion these games and a decent dialogue could open but there is one franchise that, no matter who attempts to champion it, continues to be shat on time after time. I speak, of course, Mortal Kombat. It's popular to hate it and hasn't been good since (insert last game this person actually PLAYED in the franchise) and it was always just about the fatalities anyway.

i dont care what anyone says but MK is the best fighting franchise, these developers have taken more risks in the franchise than all other fighters put together

mortal kombat II was one of the best fighting games of all time imo...a far more complex combo system what it seemed at first, and a lots of cool secrets and stuff...was the first downloadable game I got for the PS3, and was one of my favorite games as a kid...MK I was great too, but very basic overall...and MK 3 was when the franchise took a nose dive, and has not recovered since...

its definitely not the overall best fighting game...but it was definitely really good...and it was also pretty much the game that showed how much better the SNES was to the Genesis...although the genesis did get a great port of MK3, which was nearly equal to the SNES version...

I THINK THAT MK VS. DC WAS ONE OF THE MOST UNDERATED FIGHTING GAMES OUT THERE!!!! THE COMBO SYSTEM WAS AWESOME. THE STORY MODE WAS WELL PUT TOGETHER. THE GRAPHICS WERE GOOD. THE ONLY THING THAT SUCKED ABOUT THIS GAME WAS THE FATALITIES. I WANT YOU PEOPLE TO TELL ME WHAT FIGHTING GAME WAS BETTER THEN MK VS. DC AND WHY.

I THINK PEOPLE GET SO CAUGHT UP IN HOW THINGS USE TO BE AND CLOSED THEIR EYES TO SOMETHIN NEW, FOR EXAMPLE MADDEN FOOTBALL VS. NFL 2K, CLEARLY NFL 2K MADE THE BETTER FOOTBALL GAME, BUT THE SIMPLE FACT THAT EVERYONE GREW UP PLAYING MADDEN NO ONE REALLY WANTED TO TAKE A CHANCE ON NFL 2K AND EVEN WHEN THEY DID PLAY NFL 2K THEY SAID MADDEN WAS BETTER SIMPLY BECAUSE IT WAS WHAT THEY WERE USED TO.

FORGET ABOUT THE PAST MORTAL KOMBATS, PLAY THAT GAME AGAIN (IF YOU STILL HAVE IT) AND PLAY IT FOR WHAT IT IS (A FIGHTING GAME) AND I BET YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER THOUGHT ABOUT IT.
