Tecmo tones down blood in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

Ninja Gaiden 2 is coming to the PlayStation 3 in the form of Sigma, but it seems that the blood has been toned down from its Xbox 360 counterpart.

Ninja Gaiden II is coming to the PlayStation 3 in the form of Sigma II. The game will actually be the first title to be published by Tecmo and Koei since their recent merger, and the game's developer, Team Ninja, feels that it's the ultimate Ninja Gaiden experience.

However, if you watch the gameplay videos below you'll notice that the blood spurting and gore has been toned down for the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

The new head of Team Ninja doesn't believe the blood adds anything and wanted to tone it down.

Actually he thinks less blood is cooler, sleeker and sexier...I guess if you were marrying Ninja Gaiden you wouldn't want blood in your relationship...but as a game? More please :)

1.3 - blood = 15yr old kids.
I could care less. Makes no difference in the game play for better or worse. Its just an added 'violent' facade to say.. "Hey look at me i'm cool cause i'm Violent."

NG was never cool cause of the violence. It was cool because of the technique and visceral gameplay. Heightened skills and reaction time to be a SUPER NINJA!

Blood just for the sake of having it is a 'Kids thing'.

Surely there should just be an option to turn on/off the extra gore?

2 - That's like the PS3 getting the SNES version Mortal Kombat 1
....yuck

Purple squirt is not "Tomonobu Itagaki's" vision. Nevertheless there are some added goodies.

Its going to be like playing Gears of War without the chainsaw.

Just imagine how bad future Ninja Gaidens could end up being without Itagaki at the helm.

Gears of War without the chainsaws would be called kill.switch.

The dismemberment is still in it. If the game was only good because of the blood, then it must be a really sh*te game.

PirateThom thats exactly my point it wouldnt be Gears of War anymore

@deep
Do you think a game like God of War would still be as fun and entertaining if they replaced the blood with purple fairy dust? NG is one of the few games which main feature IS the blood and gore.

I think God of War would still be as fun to play, but it would lose something of the experience. If violence makes a game good, the gameplay wasn't good to begin with. God of War and Ninja Gaiden are both good gameplay wise, maybe NGSII will lose something of the experience, but, we just don't know yet.

3.7 - But would it be Gears w/o the blood?
You could still have chainsaws, just no blood.

Would it be the same game then, just a bit odd seeing characters sliced in half w/o the gore shower?

4 - This is good
I think having a more "realistic" amount of blood in the game will give it a more authentic, quality feel. Too much blood can just make a game look cartoony and fake and just make it have a more comical feel like the film Brain Dead. I guess I completely agree with the comments from the devs.

6 - I can't wait for ngs2
The lack of exaggerated gore is no bother to me, its not like that's the games main selling point, unlike mortal kombat or something. NG2 had to appeal specifically to xbox fans, which explains quite clearly why it has more gore and dismemberment than NG:S.

If you play Ninja Gaiden for the gameplay like most of its fans, then you just can't go wrong with more levels, better graphics, fixed bugs, and online co op.

NG2 is a great great challenging game, but I've had my fill of its full gorey on 360, so it'll still GOW3 that I'll be looking forward to on the PS3 for this genre.

I don't think less blood will make a significant impact on the game. I personally would be to busy focusing on the action and what move to pull off next to really notice the difference in blood.

NG2 was a great the only complaint I would say would be the camera but even that didn't take away from the awesome game that it is.

But anytime new features and story are added, it's great

thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. more blood=more bad @$$. come on your fooling yourselves with "oh its more realistic with less blood" and "gorefest, no way grossss" f'n wimps. if your playing ninja gaiden cause its "realistic" then your a moreon. real ninjas didnt go in killing multitudes of people in the open jumping up walls and absorbing the essence of those they killed to do an ultimate attack. and the more blood the better its a simple fact. stop being retards and admit more blood looks better when in the hurricane of the blades flying around. ps3 fanboys cant even admit that, we all know your lying, you may not care about the blood but it looks cooler. hell even i can admit sony has better hardware, fact. but microsoft has better software, fact. people...grow up. It wont change the gameplay like some have said, but d@mn does it look alot cooler. hell i wish i had the money to buy a ps3 for God of War 3 but i dont, see i just admitted something for the "other" side and i assure you i didnt burst into flames.

10 - that sucks
its not just the blood; its the cutting off of limbs. Apparently, they just disappear in a poof of smoke or something like that. Sure loses a great deal of visceral goodness without limbs flying everywhere.

But if youre buying strictly for the gameplay, not a deal-breaker necessarily.
