3 - HALO 2 and COD
That's what started me on FPS console craze. Halo2 was like nothing else. COD2 and 3 YES I said 3 were the most fun I ever had online. COD4 is Nirvana!. Everything else since is just trying to be like MIKE (COD) and can't compare. Yes that includes you KZ2. The joy of raising up your German Bolt action iron sighted rifle and getting a headshot does not get old.

COD franchise for the WIN!

pretty pointless article...

So Goldeneye and halo...and now HD graphics have made the shooter genre the most popular?...ok...

I would be willing to be 75% of halo 3 fans have never even played Goldeneye...hell a large portion of Halo 3 fanatics were not even alive when goldeneye came out...not to mention people who enjoy shooters aside from either of these mentioned...

8 - Thanks to PC gaming in the Mid-Late 90's...then continued with GoldenEye007 and Halo franchise
All of these were catalyst in pushing the genre a certain direction or at least putting it on the pedestal on their respective platforms.

Same is happening to WRPG's currently....

I think Japanese games/franchises are on the decline...

9 - It's simple fun......
the reason FPS is the current fav genre is because it's simple fun. You pick a gun, get in a game, point, shoot and thats it. Yeah there have been slight tweaks to the recipe but for the most part its the same concept. Theres no frame counting, combos mastering, counter attack, juggling techniques, orb attaching, keys to fetch, ghost to outrun, pattern remembering, jumps to time and more techniques from the past to master.

For some reason "Gamers" are not what they used to be. The once proud form of mastering what was once thought to be impossible have become nothing more then whining babies who don't play games unless their easy to play or on a specific platform.

Don't get me wrong their are still true gamers out there, but for the most part it's not what it used to be. the current trends in games especially the FPS market have made changes to fit that mold of the new modern gamer and there for have become the most successful genre this gen.
