Molyneux lists Fable II imperfections, says he overhyped Fable I

Speaking to VG247, Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux has listed a string of minor imperfections that niggle him about Fable II, saying previous statements about elements not being perfect in the game are merely borne from honesty.

1 - I really enjoyed Fable 1...
... the main problem it had, was 'HYPE'.

Personally, I dont usually go along with hype, so I just played the game and enjoyed it for what it offered. It was a bit too linear for my liking, and I didnt like some stuff, like you couldnt kill kids and stuff (huge hobby of mine)

(j/k ofcourse... but in a 'free' game where you could do 'anything you wanted to do, and be as evil or good as you wanted to be... it should have been possible)

... but overall, I just really liked the game. It looked nice, it sounded nice, it played well, it had a nice story, etc. It's certainly not my favourite game of all time or anything, but it was GOOD. Certainly one of the best titles on the Xbox.

1.1 - Hell yeah Fable was linear...
You could shoot lighting out of your f^cking hands but you couldn't jump over a fence. The hype was huge and in spite of some disappointment I ended up really enjoying the game.

Molyneux is a nice and honest guy, he just need to stop hyping his games too much and make a new Dungeon Keeper game.

One of the most creative developers of all times, that's for sure.

i loved fable 1
i bought my xbox for fable 1

it was refreshing to have a game like that. open world, many quests, decent amount of spells and powerups, looting, kicking chickens, beating towns people, killing innocents at the devils shrine, killing you best friend, and pimping out the towns females. that game had the right amount of realizm while at the same time being a fantasy game. i loved looting shops then reselling there stock back to them. made me enough cash to buy the shop.

kicking the chickens was the best tho, that and walking around with near max evil points.

Great quality for a dev... but it seems to me like he is setting the tone for bad reviews.

If u have the chance, take a look at pre-Fable 1 release promises/visions by Molyneux. U'll know why he is treading carefully now

edit : oh, and while you are at it, remember to check the fans' reactions and subsequent apology (or was it apologies) made. He killed the original Fable for me (with the hype), though it was a rather good game by itself

Yeah its good to see he can be critical and not over hype his own work! But it just gives me greater confidence that everything he said is great about the game is true! Nope no one is perfect and no game is either!

Moleyneux is quite "openly" worried about his game.

You rarely see developers go out in the open about these sort of things.

I don't think that he shows any indication of being worried. It sounds as though he wanted to do more polishing in the game.

He is saying the complete opposite of Denis Dyack and we know how that turned out. Fable II will deliver.

7 - Those "Imperfections" could be taken as art style
It's not supposed to look super realistic. No other game looks quite like Fable. Well, maybe Overlord.

Molyneux is like the Ted Price of the Xbox division due to his humble nature. He counter balances Clifford the big red dog.

In my opinion there's only two living legends within the game industry, Wright and Molyneux. The two of them seem to share a rare, almost extinct view of gaming and it's genuine love of the media. May so be they don't develop the biggest blockbusters but counting between them, the milestones they've set in the business and they're unrivaled.

When I think of passion for gaming these are the guys that pretty much personifies that for me. Mention Maxis or Bullfrog in my presence and if you're careful you'll see small tears of joy streaming down my face while I'm reminiscing.

Molyneux may hype but for those of us who remember what this man has brought to the table, he was, is and will always be excused for not always being able to deliver what he wanted.

Any day of the week I'll pick passion over confidence.

Oh Peter, sometimes it is better to not say anything at all.

It's like having a spot on your shirt that no one really notices, but you go to a party and ask everyone if the spot stands out, does the spot look bad, do you think the spot can be removed. Just stop talking and go on with the party.

I didn't even know their was hype for the first game. I picked up Fable: Lost Chapters way after its release and I absolutely loved it. Before Mass Effect, it was the greatest game I have ever played.

he says that it should not be over hyped. PCs be wary and don't say that well be a 9/10 or over game you just might make yourself look silly. :P
