Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Xbox Original Review - The Definative Stealth Game (XboxOZ360)

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory once again puts us in the shoes of Sam Fisher, the ageing stealth soldier, working for the government's Third Echelon division. He once again must infiltrate, sneak, and assassinate through many environments on his mission to save the world from a terrorist action. Sam has never looked as good, using an early version of the Unreal 3 engine, which makes the stealth genre seem extremely real, especially for an original Xbox title.

Chaos Theory brings a new style of multiplayer to the genre, Cooperative mode, it's here where you can team up with a friend and complete missions that are made solely for co-op. You will not be running through Sam Fisher's single player. Co-op is entirely new, and carries some small story elements that carry over to Sam Fisher's mission.

Overall, to make things simple, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is the definitive stealth game on the Xbox 360, it is a stronger game than it's successor. And it is a title that should not be missed for only 1200 MS points. If you are new to the genre on Xbox 360 and missed the original games, this is your ticket to one of the best games around. Don't miss it!

I prefer the anime style of Metal Gear Solid they do things in their games that bring games in general to the next level.

Yep you'd get it. MGS and SC are polar opposites in the genre, but are both awesome franchises in their own right

If you're looking for a complex story Blademask is right and you should head over to the unparalleled experience of MGS4.

However, if you're more interested in the stealth gameplay side, SC: Chaos Theory is as good as it gets in the genre.

Both great games, and for 1200 points SC: Chaos Theory is an absolute steal, still looks as good if not better than many next-gen titles with the HD upscale to boot! :)

I loved Chaos Theory, despite the fact I played the buggy PS2 version. Really looking forward to Conviction.

this game has the best stealth gameplay ever in a videogame

in this game you have to use your mind to pass a certain area and you have too many ways to do it

it's like a stealth simulation

it's the deepest stealth game ever created(and certainly the best)

not even mgs can toutch it(in the stealth aspect only)

but mgs top it with art, characters, boss fights, fast pacing, and uniqe storyline that mix between reality and fiction

don't compare the two games please cause each one is so different from the another

I love them both

sadly splinter cell:da sucked

hopfully,sc:convection will regain supreem,I trust you ubisoft montrial

I largely agree with you. But please learn to use paragraphs instead of starting a new one for every sentence! :)

Immortal Kaim, you basically would have no trouble following the story mate, all that remains the same is a few characters, who are basically just advisers for the misisons.

Definitely a must play game!

The HD generation of gamers is truly a sad thing if they need to be told how good Splinter Cell: CT is.

So 'what' is the difference between discussing the earlier Splinter Cell series on the Xbox, than say doing so on the PS2 and if it was available through the PSN . . or any other game available on the PSN available as a downloadable last gen game.

Open your eyes a little and you might learn some things from history. You might see that in this so-called HD era, there are many developers simply cashing in and supplying YOU with sub-standard games. Games that would have been second rate even in last pre-HD era.

Stop being so bias and start learning something. It's why this site has such a bad rep when it comes to fanboyism. It's one if not THE most talked about fanboy-hate site on the net. Get over it and get on with gaming. That IS why your in gaming isn't it?? or is it just to stir people up.

What the crap are you going on about? I just said it's sad to see so many of the current-gen "mainstream" gamers playing CoD4 all the time and missing out on past-gen classics like SC:CT. I wasn't taking any sides. Fanboyism? Give it a rest. Did I even mention Xbox or Playstation?

12 - SC Series #1 IMO
There has always been something about the Splinter Cell series that sucks me in - something about it that always enticed me to buy the next addition. Chaos Theory was no exception and as said above, I agree that this is probably the best SC title released to date...

I do hope that once the story arc of the current games is completed, that they do head back to the traditional "Splinter Cell" experience. As much as I did enjoy the whole Double Agent experience and that I'm looking forward to what they'll do with Conviction, a part of me craves the Chaos Theory type gameplay :)

I have all the Splinter Cell iterations available on the 1st-gen Xbox and 360, and Chaos Theory was perhaps one of the best ones available on the platform.

Plus those who did play it on the Xbox would have noticed that the games had far more content that then PS2 version of the same game. They had more NPC's, more level design, more story content, greater detailed environments. And each level was longer than any of the PS2 versions.

This isn't just some thing I'm making up as a Xbox supporter, one only has to open any Bradly's or similar Walkthrough guide and check each page out, and you'll see the start=k difference in visuals, and the amount of extra items to do to finish a level in the xbox versions, when compared to the OS2 versions.

I suppose that's one of the main reasons I started to love the xbox as much. As while we had (son and I) both the PS2 and the Xbox, we ended up playing the games more on the Xbox due to the larger immersion g=factor, and greater content.

When you compare some games graphical capabilities on the 360, and switch back to games like Chaos Theory and even Black, you'll see that the Xbox was doing some damn fine things in its day. Doing the art for this review had n=me looking at getting out the game on the 1st-gen Xbox again for a run, which I still might well do.

13.1 - Is your head always this far up your @$$?
I just love that little comment you left me up there. You gave out perfect advice for yourself. I've dealt with many hypocrits in my life but you just might be the biggest. You accuse me of trying to start a fanboy war and "stir things up." But "open your eyes" and look what you're doing. We're all agreeing that Splinter Cell CT was a great game (I had the Xbox version too, btw), but instead of stopping there, you decide to use it as a vehicle to attack the PS2. Yes, the PS2 version was weaker, but is it an issue now? You do know that the ps2-xbox console war ended, don't you? Or did you not get the memo? No point in going back and trying to bash the ps2 to promote the original Xbox and continue fighting a console war that ended, unless you're a pure friggin fanboy. Oh wait....

From the logical (and grammatically-coherent) perspective, I'd say you've been trying to fan the flames of fanboy hatred more than I have. So think about what you're doing next time you try to accuse someone of being a fanboy.
And make sure you interpret their comment correctly before you write a whole essay bashing them. Scroll back up if you already forgot what I'm talking about.
